  • Today we work on getting an adapter sled made to fit the oil pan / sump and pipes of my 88 Super and the bike lift. Still didn't get into servicing the brakes. Time management got away from me this weekend. But the important task of ensuring that my Magna is well supported and balanced on the lift for future work has been completed.

a template of your plywood lifting block would be useful

So you go back to harbor freight, buy the T shaped wheel chock, a scissor jack with a flat top, and get a piece of plate or 2x6 or plywood. you put the wheel you aren't working on in the chock, strap the bike to the eyelets. Place scissor jack where you want to lift at with the plate/2x6/plywood on to as a cushion for the bike. Jack up the bike.
Or, you get a 4 foot piece of 2x12, a piece of pipe and a pipe flange. Bolt the flange onto the 2x12. slide 2x12 under the bike, flat ways. Stick the pipe into the pipe flange and push or pull, your choice, on the pipe till it hits the ground. Whatever end you stuck it under will be in the air. High enough for everything you want to do....

I will probably pickup the wheel chock and scissor jack soon. Good idea. I always strap the bike down to the eyelets. I have a wood block that I use to steady things in addition to the straps now. But the wheel chock and scissor jack will help for future projects and also work out well for my Wife's new / used Rebel 250. Thanks again!

It makes the 2x12 stay on it's side. it's edge under the bike. Basically a flat board with a pipe stuck in on one side. You pull on the pipe to roll the board over on it's edge. that lifts the bike up and the pipe hits the floor. That keeps the board from flopping over.

Hi , i jes bought a 1987/8 Super Magna. It was not in running condition when i bought it. Brought it to a local mechanic had it stripped apart
No i discovered one of the port for the cylinder has slightly corroded due to water seepage into the block . It hasnt been running for 10years estimated. Now the remedy was to change the cyclinder jacket.
Is there any way i can get the cylinder jacket ? i was also thinking of doing it without the jacket by "big bore" the block ..is that advisable >?
    anyone here can help ?

7:36 "It's fully supported by the exhaust tubes..."?! You realllly shouldn't be doing that. Your plate is a good idea but should be two sheets deep, not one, so that you aren't putting any weight on the pipes! Those aren't not meant to support weight of the bike..
