    I thought the 767 was being fazed out so it’s interesting that they’ve put the new suites in? Unfortunately I lost my wife to cancer almost 10 yrs ago when we both just 26. The only lucky thing about the whole experience was she left me with our beautiful little boy (now 11) to look after :) massive congratulations to your mum for beating it and now taking on a mammoth task 👍🏻 I will be donating well done

      The breakfast catering options from LHR contractors are very limited. You can’t blame UA. They would need to build more galley space to be able to load meals for both flights at EWR the night before

    In another life as a flight attendant, I remember the 767 landings were always very hard as the pilots said that the aircraft had to be put down firmly in order to get traction for landing. Sitting in the mid-cabin crew seats we couldn't see outside, so those hard landings always came as a surprise & scared the crap out of us- often we said "did we just land or were we shot down" lol...

    I must use United for almost all of my business trips domestically here.
    They, to me, are a decent airline and since the trips I take are usually to small markets, I don't get to use these products... but I have a good amount of points so maybe a vacation flight is in the offing.
    Thanks for a great review, and I sent a bit off for Mum's cause. Cheers!!

    N685UA was purchased from Hawaiian Airlines in 2019
    Built in 2002, she’s very young. Most of United’s 767-300ER’s that just received the Polaris renovation are 27-29 years old 😱. But they are still the nicest 767’s around 😎

    I did this exact flight, although on a 767-400, as my very first in flight in December 2017. We were originally booked into Economy, but was later upgraded by the airline to Business - a pretty awesome thing to experience on your first flight if you ask me. That was in the old business class and will always remain one of my best flights ever, with only 2 flights in BA first beating it. Glad to see you enjoyed the flight :D

    United has a one time daily 767 from LHR-IAH and a 777 on the other one. Great video! I believe United is doing a life expansion program on their 767s so we should see them for about 10 more years. The 767 is my favorite heavy and I appreciate it when someone makes a video on it. I was lucky enough to fly one of these just two weeks ago, from Amsterdam to Dulles (I got the same Star Wars amenities kit). I was in seat 5L (one of the window seats) and it was great. My return flight was a 767-300ER, unfortunately with the old interior. I've also flown business on United's 767-400ER before, also on the Amsterdam to Dulles route and with the old interior. Those flights were by no means uncomfortable (the food was good, the seat fold fully flat and I got some actual sleep on my flights home, as opposed to little catnaps whilst strapped upright), but this new Polaris layout is very nice and a big step up.

    Flying this route today in Polaris (I travel to NY 10+ times per year in business). Paul - I think you had a better time of it than I am having at the moment. The lounge in London was packed (so much so that there were queues for the toilets). The planes are already looking a little worn (some of the fittings seem sensitive to knocks), and the whole plane could do with a good vacuum. There's a choice of four meals in Polaris...but they seemed to think most people would want the pork (hint: they didn't). The new BA club suites are better than the Polaris - it's roomier and just as private. AA business has a similar seat to BA (although AA's service is very inconsistent). Virgin Upper is also very good. This United offering isn't good enough. I will stick with BA or Virgin going forward I think.

  • @srowley85
    @srowley85 4 роки тому

    It's nice to see that United can do something well. It certainly isn't domestic cross country service to smaller markets. I was on a flight recently where the toilets hadn't been cleaned from the previous flight, and a mechanical issue meant a stop in Denver for fuel. Like you, I did find the crew to be efficient, friendly and professional, which almost made up for the other issues.

  • @lukethompson5558

    They did the retrofit in 2017 because they had to, as new aircraft weren’t expected til 2023, and the old interiors couldn’t be used for 6 more years. So, it was expected to be more temporary, and they originally expected to be phasing it out in 2023, but that definitely didn’t happen thankfully, and the 76 likely will end up being used for much longer at UA. I bet these planes will still be running into the early-2030’s and will hit 40 years old, just like the DC-9’s at NW. The niche they fill in thin, but premium-heavy transatlantic markets can’t be matched with the A321 (you can’t fit 46 Polaris suites on any narrowbody and still have anywhere near half the plane left over for economy). The seating capacity gained from the lack of mid-cabin doors, and bigger cargo belly, also makes their operating economics very favorable vs their A321neo replacements

    Hey! We flew United's Polaris product around the same time. My experience originating from Frankfurt on a B787-10. We had the same menu item options. The sundae (without nuts for me too) was amazing! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who found the burger wellington just a BIT odd. I am planning to fly Polaris on a 777 from Houston to LHR this summer prior to flying on To Hamburg on BA and returning from Hamburg on QM2 (nice to see the Cunard vest, by the way). I will use miles because the one-way business fare is an arm and a leg ($6500.)

    • @stewartbrodie1720
      @stewartbrodie1720 4 роки тому

      Agree with Justin Powell. Newark terminal C is unrecognisable from how it used to be. There's hundreds of seats, each with its own iPad (for ordering food), each with power sockets, so you don't have to sit on the floor near an outlet to recharge stuff any more. You can even pay for food with miles if you log in with your United account. The same transformation is happening gradually at the other hubs.

    going to fly on a 767-400 from TXL to EWR on United in a month! So excited! My first ever flight on United and also on the 767. In economy though, I’m too broke for flying business class... I just paid 300€ return for that trip, so I can’t complain :D (on the way back it’s a 747-8i to FRA on Lufthansa)

    Great video. Its like sitting in your living room on this flight. And your choice of "Michael Collins" as your movie? Liam Neeson rules!!!!! Thanks Paul.

    Can’t ignore the dated off-white and brown colored interior. Reminds me of very early PC equipment of the 80s

    I’m really enjoying your videos and wonder please what kind of work you do that seems to allow you some wonderful trips? Do the trips count as business trips because of a second business or because UA-cam uploads count towards business (for tax purposes)? Thank you very much for your response. With respect.

    Great Video :) just saw the one with Air Dolomiti and i have a suggestion for you: If you are in the Area of Munich Airport again, make shure to check out the Alps Region! The Mountains here and their natural, raw beauty are very intense and absolutly stunning (espescially in sunset) You could take a Ride on the "Bayerische Zugspitzbahn" to the Top of Germany for example, but don't forget: The real power of the Mountains you will feel when you are some Miles away from the big visitor- crowds! Seriously, when've you made your way to the Mountains its a huge mistake just to take some rides on a Cable Car. Go into the "wilderness" also! There are hundrets of easy Walking Trails, it will be a trip you wont't forget :) Other great Peaks you could get on by cable car or train are Aiguille du Midi (France), Pointe Hellbronner (Italy), Klein Matterhorn (Switzerland), Gornegrad (Switzerland) or Jungfraujoch (also Switzerland). Sorry for bad english, greetings from Bavaria :D (also good luck for your mum its a very cool Thing :))

    Airlines from the US get a lot of hate, but I have to say the Polaris business class is a pretty good product.

    • @Paul_Lucas

      Strangely I flew with AA just a week after this and it was almost as good - only the seat was less impressive. There's been a lot of improvement in the US carriers over the last few years.

    • @travelmentaryTV
      @travelmentaryTV 4 роки тому

      @@Paul_Lucas Totally agree with you, the previous generation of seats was undeniably outdated and the service was questionable, too, but I mean if you see the progress that Delta has made, the revamp of United's cabin as well as what AA did, you can really see the improvements. Yes, there might be some Asian carriers or a few subsidised airlines from the Middle East that are still better, but US airlines made a lot of progress.
      Aside from this, I also want to applaud the fact that you use your footprint as a content creator to support cancer research!

      @@travelmentaryTV Years ago if I was on a route served by both a US carrier and a European carrier, I would choose the European carrier based on service. I wouldn't do that anymore, unless it was for timing or aircraft type reasons. I have flown United on a number of trans Pacific and trans Atlantic flights over the last couple years, and I have been very impressed.

    • @travelmentaryTV
      @travelmentaryTV 4 роки тому

      @@tom_graber True! I mean a lot of European carriers still have a 2-2-2 configuration on their planes, which I particularly dislike. What are "aircraft type reasons" for you? Are there specific planes you prefer to fly on?

    • @tom_graber
      @tom_graber 4 роки тому

      @@travelmentaryTV Aircraft type reasons would be if I have a choice of a B747 or an A330 for example, I'm going to choose the B747.
