@@iainmulholland2025 I personally really liked Dark Fate a lot. It had the problem of what was really too effective and unstoppable a villain - realistically there's no way they should have been able to win, or even survive some of the events shown on screen, but hey, it's the movies. You also got to catch up with Sarah after 30 years which was great, and you had a wicked supercharged female heroine too - sorry, can't remember the name of the actress or the name of her character. Anyway she was effin great.
DF is a dark friggin movie in the big scheme of things, but also cool - or so I personally thought anyway.

@@lennyvalentin6485Mackenzie Davis. She is excellent in every role I have seen her. She had supporting roles in The Martian and Blade Runner 2049, major roles in Tully and Terminator: Dark Fate. She plays the lead role in Station Eleven, a post apocalyptic TV mini series with a kind of quirky indie feeling that is pretty good. Her best role in my opinion is as the main character in the Black Mirror episode Yorkie. She always brings something special to her character, and always feels very genuine and natural. One of my favourite actresses. She deserves many more major roles.

Linda Hamilton actually learned to pick a lock with a paperclip for this movie, to make the scene more realistic. Also the scene where she is at the playground watching herself with the young boy. That's actually her twin sister and her nephew...She also suffered permanent hearing loss from the elevator shoot out scene.

I feel that it's a learning moment for both of them. John has never given orders before. For the first time he's got this Terminator following each order he gives. Just like the human soldiers in the future will. He tells him to take care of those guys that came to his rescue and they almost got killed by the Terminator. It was the first time John learned that when given that power, the power to command soldiers/weaponry, you have to use it with a sense of responsibility and maturity. He realized that he almost killed those guys.

I would actually argue the opposite. Yes, all the characters in the first 2 films talk about how no fate is set, but all the action is being driven because they can't stop what the future holds. They beat the Terminator in the first film and it was precisely that event that started Skynet. In this movie they destroy all the chips, but the knowledge and research was still out there. they can't stop the inevitable.
While Fatalism itself is a terrible ideology, it is expertly portrayed in the first 3 films. I think the third one forces the viewer to recognize this and is partially why its not as well liked. I agree that it's not nearly as good as the first 2, but I think the third is worth watching just for that.
Also yes, the Sarah Connor Chronicles is pretty great.

Hey Jen, the actor who played the T1000 (Robert PAtrick) had to do tons of facial prep to get the physical aspect of the robot demeanor down to a tee. He would practice the cold reactionless stare with friends, family and fellow actors. He would go to gun ranges and practice not to flinch when he fired his weapon or was fired upon. Not flinching when a gun is fired is atually a pretty had facial act to pull off. There was no shortage of physical and mental prep that did not take place to make this movie an absolute classic.

Big props to Linda Hamilton's great acting and physical training.

I think its cool how the scene when you see Sarah go nuts during an interview in the psychiatric hospital being recorded and shown on a tv monitor as its extremely similar to when Kyle Reese is interrogated by police and you see him loose his temper also being recorded and viewed on a tv monitor.
It's also very cool that Linda Hamilton's twin sister Leslie is seen looking very much like the Sarah Connor from the original movie in the dream sequence in the playground with a child just before a nuclear explosion. Its crazy how Sarah's skeleton is still holding onto the fense during the blast.

James Cameron used actual twin siblings for scenes where the T1000 imitates its twin victims. The hospital guard who gets stabbed through the eye by T1000 was played by twin brothers Don and Dan Stanton, who you may have seen in Gremlins 2 as the twin lab scientists. When the T1000 imitates false Sarah towards the end, she was played by Linda Hamilton’s sister Leslie Hamilton-Gearren, who passed away in 2020.

The guy jumping out the helicopter was Charles 'Chuck' Tamburro. He's a legendary movie helicopter pilot, learned to fly in Vietnam. He did the flying of the chopper beneath the bridge -- at least twice, for two different camera angles. He also did most of the helicopter flying on the original TV show "The A-Team", and had a speaking part in "First Blood" (the first Rambo movie) arguing with the police sniper.

This is the greatest sequel of all time
Skynet goes online on 29th August. That's my birthday. I think its cool :)
There are twins in this movie. The guard and T-1000 mimicing him are twins and Linda Hamilton and her twin sister are in the dream sequence.
This movie is a masterpice of mixing practical and visual effects. In the chase sequence that was a real helicopter flying under that bridge, and T-1000 was molded after the Oscar statue (which is funny because the movie did win an Oscar for visual effects).
John Connor's stepmother was played by Jenette Goldstein. She played Vasquez in Aliens.
    Great reaction.

Hey Jen, your fear of the T1000 is well founded. James Cameron knew there was only one Arnold, so he chose to use a sleeker, more athletic male version to suggest that the T1000 is an upgraded version of the Terminator technology. Since the properties of the liquid metal make it denser than the regular metal the Arnold is made of.

In March of ‘84, my father single-handedly developed & invented the Carbon Monoxide detector…initially, Kiddie Fenwal wasn’t interested & he was assigned to work on _Halon Fire Suppression Systems_ (the practical application for the Halon Fire Suppression Systems for what he was doing, was for Jet aircraft landing gear which is known to catch fire while landing…and anyone who knows anything about a tire fire knows it’s not easily extinguished… but with the Halon System, there need to be an enclosed area, and the Halon Gas at 5% will kill fire, but at something like 8% will kill anything which breathes… and I remember my close family friend who was 13 years-old at the time, (I was almost 6 years-old) took me to see this movie in the theatre, and my mind was blown completely!!

A couple of cool/interesting fact about Robert Patrick(T1000). He was actually a sprinter in college so that was really him chasing John on the dirt bike. He actually caught up to the dirt bike in one take so the had to do it again with him not pushing as hard. Also he practiced firing a weapon without blinking so it would be more realistic that a Terminator would not have to blink when shooting.

Arnie's Terminator was never as merciful. Waving his finger at Sarah instead of just shooting her? Not really the way a Terminator should behave. Even how it ended, chucking in the metal refinery to top off the T1000. Obvious. The worst goof in T2 which I will never forgive Cameron for was Dyson using the original Terminator's CPU design to create Skynet. Paradox. Easily avoided. What SHOULD have happened is, Dyson should have eventually have seen the CPU of the original Terminator which was found, then realising he's already seen this design. 'That is the CPU I have been working on', then the realisation his creation was responsible for everything that had happened, '84 & future, war etc.

If you think about, the plot of Terminator 2 sounds a bit like Disney film: A boy misses his dead dad and tries to find his long lost mom, meets a robot who wants to know why people cry. Together they have exiting adventures, mom is found, and robot becomes kind of a father figure to the boy. Finally, before he dies, the robot understands why people cry. Real weepie!
You should see tv series Sarah Connor Chronicles, in my book it's worthy sequel to T1 and T2. It's more about mother-son relationship than movies could ever be. John is teenager now, and wants to live "normal" life (while waiting and preparing for the apocalypse). They live life of fugitives because not only terminators but also the FBI is looking for them (for blowing Cyberdyne Systems). Lena Hedey as Sarah is great, rivals Linda Hamilton's performance.
Little warning: only 2 seasons were made and whole thing ends with major cliffhanger, and some people found it irritating. I'm of the mixed opinion. Yes, I'd had loved to see season 3. Hell, I'd had killed my own grandmother to get it (but, alas, the bitch was already dead :( ) However, having said that, the ending is, at the same time, my favourite cliffhanger ending ever. You see it and - bang! - you get it: "There it is! The whole mythology! No explonation needed! No more storytelling. That's why John Connor becomes John Connor..."

  • @Pecos1
    @Pecos1 2 роки тому +7

I think this one is better than the first because of the last scene with the Terminator. When he said he understood now why humans cry but it was something he could never do, he was very subtly telling John he wanted to cry, and that he was missing John already. That, and the part where Sarah is talking about T with John, and how T, out of all the would-be step-dads out there, was the one perfect being for John. How she described him was so heartfelt.

    • @Cheepchipsable
      @Cheepchipsable 2 роки тому

      Because they were stupid.
The Terminator said he was programmed to learn, (except accents apparently), and the point of his model was specifically to infiltrate human hideouts. He would have learned that him about to cease to exist would have been where a human would cry, but they left that feature out at the factory so he couldn't.
The Terminator is more akin to that reliable car you used to own and took you everywhere. People form emotional attachments to inanimate objects all the time, especially ones that are useful to them.
Look at the way he and John interacted. John treated him like s big toy, and the Terminator was incapable of disobeying him - what kind of relationship is that? Not a real one.
You seem to forget, the same model Terminator was trying to kill them the last time they met. This one was set to "protect" instead of "kill" at the factory.

I love seeing first time reactions to this because I get to see the response to the twist where Arnold is a good guy. At the time this movie came out the trailers, tv spots and soundtrack videos on MTV all spoiled the twist before the movie was released, so we all went in knowing Arnold wasn't trying to kill John. The movie clearly intended that misdirection and the studios ruined it.
What I like best about James Cameron is that he makes sequels that progress stories rather than rehashing them. So often a sequel simply redoes all the popular moments from the first movie. T2 and Aliens each take their story into a new chapter that follows from the first movie but has a new identity all its own.

For me it shows the Terminator's newly acquired sense of emotion. He really does understand why humans cry now. He knows that there's no practical reason for a thumbs up that benefits him personally, but John needs it as a "everything is going to be okay". He does it for no reason other than somebody emotionally benefitted from it. It shows how quickly those machines can learn right from wrong when enabled to do so. It makes me pity the Terminators. They are manufactured killing machines (literally). Like zombies with no control. Skynet creates them with vast intellectual capability but has their processor set to not learn.

I’m glad you liked it. It really is a great story and has everything (except a map 😉). It was fun watching you discover Arnold was a good guy in this film. It’s also cool the special effects still stand up. This came out in the early 90s. I remember watching this at sleepovers as a kid. Also your Sarah Connor cosplay is super cute :)

@@jenmurrayxo oh for sure. And got in so much trouble for constantly saying “Hasta La vista, baby!” And “Chill out, dickwad.” to my parents

The first reactor I've seen that had absolutely no idea about Arnie being the good guy right up until the actual reveal. So satisfying to see that, because even the original marketing for the film back in 1991 gave it away. So glad you weren't spoiled.

Funny yet cool thing about the helicopter chase scenes, actual Vietnam Helo Pilot. He flew that helo under the bridge. Jen this was such a good reaction. The ending was powerful too! This was a good follow.
