What do you think is in the briefcase?!
INGLORIOUS BASTERDS: ua-cam.com/video/Jwk1JeiHHME/v-deo.html
DJANGO: ua-cam.com/video/Kr2Hqq9bHF8/v-deo.html
The MacGuffin.
There was a theory floating around that it was Marcellus Wallis' soul.
There was something in the suitcase originally, but Tarantino and Roger Avary realized whatever they put in there wouldn’t live up to anybodys expectations. The suitcase idea is stolen from a Robert Aldrich movie, Kiss Me Deadly, and I think the glowing light represents the atomic bomb in that film, I thought it was supposed to be Pandora’s box in that movie.
The Rabbits Foot.
It reappeared in Mission Impossible III.
The gold member
My favorite Jen line to date "This watch has seen some shit." Truer words never spoken.
That was not foreshadowing, but two-shadowing.
The closest I've ever came to falling out of my recliner.🤣
When she said that, my first thought was "You ain't kidding, sister!"! 🤣😅😂
🤣
I knew id find this comment lol
“Aw man, I shot Marvin in the face” I love the way Vincent delivers that line so casually like it wasn’t a big deal.
Poor trigger discipline on Vincent's part. No accidents with firearms, only negligence.
That was actually something John Travolta proposed to QT! He said he had an idea to change the line and it'd make it way better. QT wasn't sure but let him do it. Afterwards he said 'I didn't know we were making a comedy' and he loved it.
It's also telling that after Jules starts yelling at him in the car, Vincent says, "Chill out. You probably ran over a bump or somethin'."
Like Sam Jackson describing Geena Davis' alter ego in "Long Kiss Goodnight"...
"Oh, phooey! I burned the damn muffins."
Aw man...
This movie was earth-shattering when it came out. Amazing that it still packs such a punch after all these years!
It's so ever-fresh. Sorta like how Devo from the 80's still sounds like future music, this movie could've came out yesterday. Nothing really dates it.
I watch it infrequently enough that there's always surprises and things I didn't pick up on before to notice.
Yep. Nobody had ever seen anything like this.
Seen it in cinema 1st day , awesome.
I remember hearing the tomato joke just after. I was way to sheltered to be allowed to watch
There's a meme from this movie and i love it
Part way through the Walken Watch story, when you said "This watch has seen some shit" I freakin' died! I'm thinking you have no idea yet how much LOL
"He died of dysentery..." (a bowel disease)
I can't help but laugh at how horrible the story is, delivered so casually to a child. Walken crushes his one scene.
This and I need more Cow Bell are the ultimate Walkenism's.
Walken- "You're great granddad gave this watch to your grandfather for luck
Jen- "This watch has seen some sh**"
Me- "You have no idea"
I thought the same thing lol
Yeah I laughed out loud at that
I can't believe this movie is almost 30 years old. An instant classic. IMO this is the quintessential Tarantino film. Every part about it is incredible.
It's a little known fact that what's actually in the briefcase happens to be something that only Quentin knew while he was writing the script. It's a briefcase full of what can only be described as: a plot device of the MacGuffin variety.
My guess is a Faberge imperial egg. There I said it.
I remember the 1st time seeing this, it was like a new color was invented. So wild, stylish, fresh and unpredictable. What the hell did I just see?
No one writes dialogue like Quentin Tarantino. Every conversation from Hans Landa's interogation and subtly implied threats against Perrier LaPadite to Jules and Vincent talking about if a dog is a flithy animal is magnificent to hear. He makes every conversation feel believable and genuine and directs actor perfectly. There is never this perfectly snappy "MCU style" banter or clichéd monologues, almost no one delivers there lines perfectly in rapid succession because that is not how a real conversation goes. He makes every conversation seem like its a genuine discussion between two actual people with differing opinions or worldviews. Every Tarantino movie is worth to checkout, my favorite being Resevoir Dogs, which i would highly recommend!
True. My only complaint is that in his earlier movies many of the characters sound the same or have the same "voice"/"talk the same", but in later movies this has been fixed and everyone has their own voice or character. I think it is because in earlier movies so many of the characters were gangsters.
Yup, she should have watched it before this one. Oh well...
One of the (many) interesting themes in this movie is the relativity of good and evil. As someone mentioned, in each vignette, the hero of the story changes along with the point of view, but also think about who's the good guy and who's the bad guy in each scene, and it flips around depending upon the situation. And this switching is reflected in the seemingly random conversations, many of which really debate whether things have intrinsic value -- why the name of the Quarter Pounder changes under the metric system, is a foot rub the same as sex, why do we love dogs but not pigs when both are equally dirty, etc. etc.
The first time I saw this movie, I was confused with everything being out of order, and following three groups of characters, but gradually it made sense. One of Tarantino's best films, in my opinion.
He got the idea of the stories being out of sequence of sorts from a true classic - the original "Catch-22".
Bad Tarantino imitators write stories with scenes out of order just to be edgy. But this movie did it for a reason: Tarantino wanted the audience to know that Travolta dies before he actually does, that way the final conversation with Jules in the diner about redemption, miracles, fate, messages from God, and walking the earth, carries so much more weight when you know that Samuel L. Jackson walks away but Travolta doesn't.
The suitcase is one of the best ideas tarantino ever head, keept whole generations guessing??? Gold? golden aluminium foil from the first Big Mac? Elvise's golden suit? And nobody knows the answer.
@@rmamon2554I know
“But I’m trying real hard to be the Shepard”
I saw this when it first came out and that line has stuck with me ever since.
Real love this movie, and the soundtrack is so good my dad swiped it from me saying “I’m older I appreciate this music more than you” 😂
Thanks for the fantastic reaction! It’s given me a nice excuse to rewatch the movie! Really happy you liked it, keep up the wonderful work!
My friend had the soundtrack on cassette, we listened to it so much, I hadn't even seen the movie at the time, I was on 5th grade.
"This watch has seen some shit"
I need you to drop this on merch Jen , that was classic timing🤣
Hey Jen, You totaly picked up on one of the many themes in "Pulp Fiction", in which each person is the protagonist in their own story. -------- So when each story is happening the story comes from their point of view. Which allows for villians to be pitted against each other. ------- When Jules is in the room speaking to Brad, it's from his point of view. Or When Butch has to go back for the watch and saves Marcellus it's from his point of view. ------- Although the characters and storylines are interconnection, it all depends on the lens though which it is viewed. --------- Which makes you root for one person over the other based on the lens which it's viewed. Simply brilliant writing.
One of the (many) interesting themes in this movie is the relativity of good and evil. In each vignette, the hero of the story changes along with the point of view, but also think about who's the good guy and who's the bad guy in each scene, and it flips around depending upon the situation. @@charlize1253 awesome breakdown, awesome examples. Love it
@@charlize1253so deep... Nice.
I saw this in the movie theater in 1994. I remember standing up after it was over, looking at my friend, and telling him, "that was the wildest flick I've ever seen."
Awe Jen, during the bible verse scene at the beginning of the movie. To see you flinch when Sam Jackson points the gun, eats the burger and tosses the tv stand for saying "WHAT" was priceless. ------- It showed you're so real and immersed in the movie. Despite the fact that it's only a movie you still empathize with the characters to the point that you flinch when they flinch, you grimace when they grimace. -----You basically place yourself in the minds of the character. ------
Which is what makes your reactions so great. ----- I knew you would love this movie. Keep em coming.
I’ll never forget seeing this new in the theater, because I had just come home from traveling in Europe and the Middle East and a girl I was madly in love with invited me to go see it. We both loved it!
This is a classic! Saw it in the theatre, and was blown away. The dialogue. Interweaving, non-linear story- very unique at the time!!
Tarantino has a knack of knowing exactly what song should be used. And I mean exactly. A lot of songs got so much renewed popularity whenever he used them
"This watch has seen some shit"
Haha, how prophetic!
Great choice Jen. Such a classic. Introduced the world to Tarantino.
I'd love to see two of his other films Jacky Brown and True Romance (written by QT). Both wonderful.
I'm so happy you liked this one! It's so un-James Bond lol! I highly recommend "Kill Bill" for sure.
I enjoyed ur reaction! This is the best Tarantino movie imo. His direction and script is brilliant, and every role is perfectly cast. Everything that happens in this movie has a purpose, and you don't realize it's hidden in plain sight until the final moments.
I personally prefer Inglourious Basterds and Kill Bill Vol 1, but I definitely agree this is his most intricate and well-crafted film. The way Tarantino uses the non-linear structure is so good, you're left confused for a large part of it and then it becomes so satisfying to see how the stories all fit together
Tarantino movies have his signature vibe, regardless of the genre. He usually works with the same group of actors over and over. He's written roles specifically for Uma Thurman. He has an encyclopaedic knowledge of music. He has impeccable instinct for picking just the right tune for the right moment. Check out interviews where he's talking about music. He's a fascinating guy.
"This watch has seen some shit." LOL, LITERALLY!!!!🤣😂🤣😂
This is a great movie. Uma Thurman's performance is one of her best. Quentin Tarantino movies are action packed. This is a favorite of mine.
Nice reaction. You might like "True Romance," for which Quentin wrote the screenplay.
Directed by Tony Scott (rip)
Great reaction as usual Jen. As a child, Butch was told "Hopefully, you'll never have to experience this yourself, but when two men are in a situation like me and your Daddy were, for as long as we were, you take on certain responsibilities of the other." Butch went back for Marsellus because of the lesson of The Gold Watch.
The rumor is that it was Marsellus's soul in the briefcase. That's why it glows the way it does.
The theory of what was in the case, from my understanding, was that it was Marcellus's soul. When you first see Marsalis he has a bandage on the back side of his head where his soul is taken from.
Nah, it's Marsalis Wallace's breakfast; an Egg McGuffin.
That's one popular theory. I've never given it much credence, mostly because if Vincent and Jules are otherworldly beings who commonly handle tangible souls, then Jules' moment of clarity and Vincent's dismissal of its spiritual legitimacy at the end don't make much sense.
Other theories include the case containing some kind of gold, possibly an Academy Award, or jewels, possibly the diamonds that were stolen in the Reservoir Dogs heist. Co-writer Roger Avery has stated that early versions of the script explicitly showed the case to contain diamonds, but that he and Tarantino thought that was "too boring and predictable".
No matter what it "really" has inside, though, it was probably *mostly* just a visual reference to one of Tarantino's favorite noirs, "Kiss Me Deadly" from 1955, which also has a case with glowing contents at the center of the plot.
Great reaction, there is a fan theory that Marcellus's soul is in the briefcase that ties into the bandaid on his head. You should definitely watch the Kill Bill movies, I think you'll enjoy it since you liked this. As for John Travolta I'd say yes to Saturday Night Fever and also suggest Face Off for a fun ride.😎
Actually the band aide on the back of his neck was just coincidence. The actor had just had a mole removed a couple of days before. Tarintino just let it ride.
Pulp Fiction might be my favorite movie of all time ❤
"That watch has seen some shit."
Said before you even heard the full story.
The nice thing about putting the diner scene at the end is that everybody is still alive at this point. Feels like a happy ending for Vincent.
I laughed out loud when you said that watch has been through some sh*t and then you heard the story of where that watch was hidden. 😂
Hey Jen love your reactions! Your energy really shines through! You’re definitely one of my favorites out there in UA-camville. I think most people consider this Tarantino’s best movie. It’s a crazy ride that’s for sure!
16:47 Fruit-Brute was part of a group of monster-themed cereals including Franken-Berry, Boo-Berry, and the ever-triumphant and delicious Count Chocula.
19:08 Please be True Romance, please be True Romance, please be True Romance...🤞🤞🤞 Suicide Kings would also be awesome.
30:04 Jen's impatience with Fabienne here is all of us. Love the "Get to the choppa" reference as well.
She didn't mean True Romance but Catch me if you can. There's already an announcent for it in the community tab.
@@M._R. Oh yeah, forgot he was in that.
Lol I thought you were gonna say, “My fire alarm goes off every time I fire an automatic weapon, too.”
I've been contemplating during the whole reaction what character you could beat Jack Rabbit Slims. My vote is Mary Tyler Moore on the Dick Van Dyke TV show during the 1960s
Glad you had fun watching this. This movie was filmed in and around my hometown when I was in HS. We saw the production crew on different locations. Much Respect to QT for using the most of his time with regards to filming. There was no unnecessary strain on traffic.
Fun fact... Uma's mother was a famous supermodel, in every fashion magazine (they're twins), and her grandmother was such a legend there are still naked statues of her in Sweden.
Thank God Tarantino doesn’t “act” in any of his movies anymore, he makes the guy
from The Room look like Daniel Day Lewis
Love your choices lately!!! You are the best Jen!!! Jackie Brown is an underrated Tarantino movie worth watching!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Tarantino's only adapted script, Jackie Brown runs 100% on Elmore Leonard's tight novel, the incredible cast, and one of Tarantino's funkiest soundtracks.
I will always give that movie props, his most mature and arguably his best effort.
Jackie Brown next. Definitely.
Jackie Brown is deifinetivly worth to check....
Jackie Brown is my favorite Tarantino movie!
When he was in Star Wars and the prop guys gave Samuel L Jackson his light saber they had engraved BMF on it as an homage to his character in this movie, also on Nick Fury's grave stone in Capt America and the Winter Soldier is the Ezekiel bible quote he says in this movie...
Almost everything that happens in this movie is so random, and yet....it works perfectly. Like a crazy painting.
19:27
'This watch has seen some shit'....
Yes, yes it has LMFAO!
🤣
This movie gets better and better with repeated viewings, so you hit the nail on the mother effing head, Jen! Bravo to you, and this excellent reaction!
“Get to the choppa”. Cracked me up.
Everything from Marcellus walking in front of Butch's car through Butch getting beaned in the intersection is one of the best-timed and _funniest_ pieces of editing I've ever seen.
I'm commenting before I even watch. Jen your reactions are top tier and your personality makes it feel like watching with a friend! Thanks to you and anyone behind the scenes for bringing such fun content to your viewers! ☆☆☆☆☆
Thank you, so glad you enjoy :)
Everyone should see this movie at least once. I'm glad you did. Great reaction. Thank you. Have a nice day.
I disagree. I think everyone should see this movie at least twice, because it’s that kind of movie.
@@0okamino Damn straight.
"This watch has seen some shit."
We call this foreshadowing.
They serve beer in McDonald's or burger King in Europe..
Taratino definitely has a foot fetish you notice when you watch all his movies. They come up a lot.
Yes soundtrack is wonderful his movies usually are , he picks the song himself from his collection.
From Dusk till Dawn is so over the top about his foot fetish... If you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about.
OMG! I can't believe it took you this long to watch this for the first time, but I'm so here for it. This is my #1 film of all time. I'm a total sucker for a Pulp Fiction reaction. It's my go-to flick to judge a reaction channel. "That watch has been through some shit." 🤣 You should totally watch Saturday Night Fever. 🥂
Random first thing to mention -- Ricky Nelson was the son of Ozzie Nelson, and he, Ozzie, his mom and his brother were the focus of "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet", a sitcom in the 50's. He also was a 50's/60's rock and roll singer who fathered Matt and Gunnar Nelson, aka "Nelson", a hair metal band which like a few of them towards the end, really wasn't; but they DID have long hair. The songs they're known for are "Love and Affection", "After the Rain", and, as Power Tool on the Bill and Ted soundtrack, "Two Heads are Better than One". And as a wrestling fan I know that for some reason Chris Jericho kept trying to rock the Gunnar Nelson look until five years after anyone remembered them. Totally random.
Walking into a man’s home, eating his burger, and drinking his entire soda might be the biggest “I’m him” moment in cinema history.
Yes, Jen, you should definitely watch "Saturday Night Fever." Apart from a platinum-selling sound track, it shows Travolta as the best dancer since Fred Astaire.
Noice! An all-time favourite and an absolute classic, this movie really set the standard for non-linear storytelling back in the 90's.
Just when I think I'm all caught up on reactions, Jen and her Serious Girl Spectacles offer up another awesome vid. Happy weekend and cheers from the East Coast. 🥃👍✌❤
Vince's dealer apologizes for packaging his heroin wrong. When Mia finds white powder in a plastic bag she assumes it is cocaine; heroin is usually packaged in a baloon.
One of my favorite Tarantino movies is the "Hateful Eight", kind of a Western but classic Tarantino dialogue with a twist...
Definitely one of my favorite Tarantino films, up in my top 3. Doesn't get near the credit it deserves, but great dialog, great characters, great acting & great story!
Love this movie, such an all time classic. You should also try Hateful Eight, personally my favorite movie by Tarantino
@ 19:27 Jen says "This watch has seen some shit" ...BEFORE he explains where the watch was stored
When Jackson says in the restaurant he is "Going to walk the Earth and get into adventures...", describes the plot of the '70s tv show Kung Fu, with David Carradine. Carradine appeared in Kill Bill.
You like Bruce Willis? You hate mayonnaise? Watch "The Whole 9 Yards". You will thoroughly enjoy it.
One of the few Matthew Perry performances I enjoy.
Entertaining as always. I don't know what you've seen from the "Tarantino/Rodriguez film family", but Kill Bill, Hateful Eight, From Dusk Till Dawn and Desperado would all be nice reactions to see in the future. Just to name a few.
'..they're gonna get beat up...'
O, sweet summer child.
"They look like a couple of dorks"..."Haha they're your clothes....." 😂
"Once Upon Time in Hollywood"!!!!
Don't cry in front of the Mexicans.
Nice foreshadowing Jen! "This watch has seen some shit",
It's amazing how compelling the movie is even when split up into tiny clips, lol. He really knows how to make a movie.
I saw this when it first came out. When John Travolta got shot by Willis, I was shouting "Nooooooo". Then they brought him back, which made the movie much better. Yes I am a Travolta fan.
I hope that you will watch Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown. It is a really great film with lots of moving parts.
This movie marked the start of a new era in movie making -- telling a story out of order. Tarantino is a master of it. Other directors mess it up so their stories are confusing for no good reason. They think it makes them clever, but their art lacks the X factor that Tarantino has. This is one of my favorite movies.
He took that from a Kubrick movie, The Killing, which told the movie out of order. Gambit did it brilliantly as well
@@konowd Fair enough.
No new ideas under the sun, it’s how you do it that makes it new and original. Tarantino somewhat invented the prequel origin story idea because Res Dogs was a take off on a movie called City On Fire. He created the story of what he thought was going on inside the warehouse, which was actually pretty clever.
@@konowdI think it was Shakespeare that said there are only 16 basic stories to tell. Everything is a variation on a theme. Of course, style is a whole other independent factor.
Avary and Tarantino also laid all the scenes on the floor and put them in the order they thought went best. Originally Pulp was going to be three different movies in one. Tarantino was going to direct one story, Avary another, and Adam Rifkin was going to direct the third segment
If you listen to the context clues in the background, you find out that Mia and Vincent did not win the trophy, they stole it.
Jen - "'This watch has seen some shit"'. Foreshadowing
The briefcase contains the "McGuffin" 😎
i just love Jen since the Superman I reaction....
its always fun and entertaining watching her reaction to movies u know and watched over 20 times from start to finish
thank u Jen for all of it !
I'm pretty sure it's the cross of Coronado, which Marcelus Wallace (being an archeology enthusiast) would like to see returned to a museum, which is where it belongs.
Jen is so pure of heart I didnt think she could handle the more unsettling elements of the film but she made it through , bravo !!!! and yes you should watch Saturday night fever
Arguably, the defining film of the 1990s. More cult pulp goodness, you'd like _Kiss Kiss Bang Bang_ with RDJ & Val Kilmer.
I once read a comment where someone suggested that Marcellus had Vince take Mia out as a test of loyalty. He was gone for 3 years remember and it never does say why he was gone…and no he was not smoking a joint at the table, he smokes hand rolled cigarettes remember.
Ha ha! "That watch has seen some sh*t!" Right before Bruce Willis's character is told where his dad hid the watch! 😂😅
Jen:
“This watch has seen some shit.”
*FORESHADOWING* 🤣
I smiled when you said "that watch has seen some shit"...before you knew.
"This watch has seen some shit" must be the most appropriately unwitting line ever.
the contents of the briefcase are a orange lightbulb, battery, wires, bulb holder and foil.
19:26 "This watch has seen some sh"t" - I almost spilled my coffee when you said that. you didn't know how right you were yet :)
"This watch has seen some shit!"
😂 Now THAT'S foreshadowing!
She said "This watch has seen some shit" 😅😅😅😅 Literally 😂😂😂😂😂
Great reaction Jen. This is my favorite Tarantino movie. When it first came out in the theaters I saw it 4 times and still watch it almost every year.
What the robbers say at the beginning about restaurants and the hero factor is true - when I was still in food service, I asked my manager what we would do if we got robbed, especially if it was after closing - I was the one who tended to be on register, and he said, "It's very simple - you don't fight the guy, you walk him back here, we give him the drawer, and we call the cops when he leaves. We aren't paid enough to be heroes."
I love how in the taxi, with Bruce, the background is black and white.
John Travolta was a superstar in the 1970s to the mid 80s. Then his career started to decline. Pulp Fiction is what revived his career and made him popular again.
The popular belief about what is in the briefcase is that it contains the soul of Marcellus Wallace which was taken from him via an incision on the back of his neck, which is why he has a bandaid on it all through the film.
even after all these years, people argue about what was in the briefcase.Well done Quentin!
It's refreshing to see someone NOT be "confused" or "don't get" the movie. I mean it doesn't take long to figure out that scenes are not in chronological order and if pay attention to the dialogue it fully makes sense, so I enjoyed your reaction.
6:04 the briefcase contains marcellus wallaces soul, it was taken out with a deal from the devil for power, it was removed from the back of his neck where the band aid is.
Best part of this reaction, when Jen notices the puppies outside Monster Joe's. 100%
At 5:38 I recently read that Samuel L Jackson had to wait a long time during his audition for this role, so he went out to get some fast food. When he was eating it he finally got called up to do his audition, and by that time he was really pissed off about being told to wait for quite a long time. So he went into the audition and kept eating his burger and drinking his soft drink looking angry and mean as hell at Tarantino and the others doing the audition. Tarantino was so impressed that not only did Jackson get the role, but Tarantino decided to add the burger eating and sprite drinking part into the scene.
I remember watching this for the first time at my best friends house when I was like 17. Once it finished i immediately restarted it and watched it again. Amazing dialogue.
Esmarelda Villa Lobos: scariest character in movie history.
