    Great review. I just ordered the Tamron lens and will almost certainly be selling my Sony 70-200mm f4 G.
    Overall the Tamron looks to be a great package with a really cute set of compromises that probably makes it the best overall lens in this trio for most photographers most of the time. If you are a paid sports pro, working regularly and need bullet proof reliability, don't have to carry it all day walking about etc then the better build quality from the GM 'beast', despite the cost is the better option. For just about all others the Tamron is the new smart choice. I still don't think it will retain it's percentage value as well as the Sony optics, but my lenses are for use, shooting and a means to an end. If they get a little battered by use and life then so what - they are a tool and by all accounts a lot better than they have any right to be.

    Your review really was helpful. I'm getting my Tamron today. I also will like the Tamron because of the ability to get some macro shots at 70mm when manually focusing. Not too mention, I hate big white lenses because it always draws attention to yourself and often I like to be in the background where I'm not a distraction.

    Don't worry about lack of Tripod collar. There is 100% certainty we will see Tripoc collar accessories from various gadget makers. Tamron themselves were certain this lens will be more popular than the 28-75 which already is the world's most sold lens in 2019.
    So Tripod collars from 3rd party will be inevitable.

    Hi Richard, thank you again for your fantastic review, just one quick, I know its not in the video but did u test the sel70200g vs tamron 70-180mm at f8 and above? If yes, is there a noticeable difference in sharpness?
    The reason I ask is I mainly do landscape photography and you can get a f4 second hand for around $1200-1300 AUD where the Tamron is $2300-2500 AUD.
    So just wondering if they equal out with sharpness at f8 and above?
    Thank you

    • @TheRealRichardWong
      @TheRealRichardWong  4 роки тому

      Hi David, I only tested it to around f/8 but not beyond as diffraction really starting to make the image soft once I stop down to f/11 or beyond. But at f/8, the difference between these lenses are quite small. If you could pick up a nice copy of the f/4 at half the price, i think it's a good option to go for!

    • @davidkmillerphotography
      @davidkmillerphotography 4 роки тому +1

      If you're using it for landscape you have to factor in that the Tamron doesn't have a tripod collar and won't be balanced very well and if you shoot at 180mm at a slow shutter speed you risk motion blur. I have the 70-300 and because it doesn't have a tripod collar l get a lot of shots that are unusable especially compared to when I had a Tamron 70-200mm 2.8 that is better balanced because of the tripod collar.

    HI, I just wanted to point out that at 3:36 (ua-cam.com/video/DVL_R_hHL00/v-deo.html) you have written the names of the models in front of the lenses, but it seems like you mistakenly put Sony f/4 in front of the f2.8 and vice versa. I noticed this from the fact that I thought the f/4 is smaller as well as the fact that the lens body says otherwise. Please confirm, just trying to ensure I am making the right decision with the Sony f/4 and if its bigger than the Sony f2.8, its a deal breaker for me.

    Thank you for your very thorough review. This is the one that I have been waiting for! Although I own the other two Tamron zooms I am not planning on picking this one up anytime soon as I already own the Sony 70-200 F4 and it seems,that outside of the gain of one stop of light ( f2.8 vs.f4), there isn't enough image quality gained to justify its purchase. I think you did a great job in comparing all three lenses and answered a lot of our questions. However, I would have definitely picked the Tamron if I had been starting from scratch!
