great video, and love the studio setup. Your breakdown was excellent, and touches on areas not addressed by the "big" vloggers. Nice work. I have the 28-75 tamron, and I think it stacks up pretty well to the GM 24-70. They definitely hit the wonky side of ranges (see: 28-75, versus 24-70; 70-180 vs. 70-200; 17-28 vs. 16-35). But I think that for working photographers who don't have a ton of income to supplant the lens game, these are a great alternative to the GM side of things (and Sony needs to step up its game on refreshing its own range, because Tamron's trinity overall has overtaken them for price, "it stays in my bag," and build quality relative to price).
Thanks. I try to keep it real. I shoot full time and UA-cam for fun. So what I look for from my gear might be different than a full time youtuber than wants to stay on the good side of every company.
Oh the interview in the end was a nice surprise :) Very refreshing! Also I agree with your conclusion. I had the Sony 70-200 F4 and it was perfectly fine for daylight shooting. The Tamron is on its way to my hands and I'm very excited once I have it :) Greetings from the Netherlands!
Thank you for the information. I shoot with a 50 mm on the sony a7iii and im looking to get the 70-180 tamron. I shoot alot of portraits, lifestyle, sports and concerts.
The tamron would be a good compliment to the 50. I didn’t get a chance to test the low light autofocus so I’m not sure how it would do at concerts. But for the other things it should do good.
Hello Micheal good content I have a question I noticed that you're using the Elinchrom ELB 1200 strobes where you using the same "Heads" with the pack or mixed them up? Cheers! 🥃
Thanks; you helped me stay satisfied with my f/4 Sony. It may lag wide open but with studio lights or day time outdoors; I am not usually shooting wide open anyway; and I have an 85 1/8 and the awesome 135 for when things get dark and moody. Also I like that it does not extend when zooming and the removable collar is a plus.
I'd really love to get the F4 because I usually shoot in daylight , events or occasion , so the light is not a problem , because i have different lens for a lowlight situation but the Tamron is tempting ...
Hey man, great review. Loved hearing what you had to say and thankfully you actually used the lens in a great side by side comparison. I have to ask though can you describe your lighting set up a bit more? your 'How to: Studio Lighting Photography' video was also amazing. I'd just love more detail to understand these set ups. one has 2 shoot through umbrellas staggered and to today you have a parabolic umbrella with diffusion backed up (filled) by a shoot through umbrella. Do you have a particular contrast ration you use? or are you mainly focused on getting nice exposure with the key and then just dialling in the second fill umbrella (which is normally more central?). Sorry man i have to ask as you work is amazing and m just trying to break down and analyse how you do it. as your SOOC camera images are so gorgeous. And thanks again for actually using SOOC images. again not many do it so its nearly impossible to make comparisons.
Thanks for all the praise. I appreciate you watching both videos. It’s basically the second version of what you said. About 1 stop under on the fill. I eye ball it until I’m happy. My favorite modifier is a story silver umbrella with diffuser. It “pops” a little more than the shoot thru so I used that this time.
Thanks for the video. Wondering how the lens goes with low light, fast shutter speed images? Specifically looking at pairing this lens with a A6400 for some night motorsport photography. Thanks!
LIKED AND SUBSCRIBED! Great vid! I have the Tamron 70-180. It is very sharp and I am pleased with it. I like your studio setup and the model is great as well. Keep up the good work!
Appreciate this review a lot. Actually heard some points I didn’t hear in any of the 40 reviews I have seen before. My choice will be the Tamron as I will be able to bring the complete Tamron trinity as they are lighter and smaller. Don’t know if you care, but started “stalking” your channel. 😁
kim fraser if you mainly shoot at F8 in the studio then save money and get the F4. I like an 85 in studio more. Since you already have 1 F4 is my vote. But if you shoot at 2.8 a lot then go with the tamron.
I have the Sony 70-200mm f/4 G OSS lane and the Sony 85mm f/1.8 lens. Although the Tamron is interesting to me, sine I love my 26-75mm f/2.8 Tamron lens, I think that I will stick with my two Sony lenses. I also have the Sony 70-350mm f/4.5-6.3 G IS APSC lens for when I want longer reach on my A6600...
Agreed . I have the F4 and the zeiss 85. If I could sell the F4 for $700 and buy the tamron for $1200, that’s $500 out my pocket. The tamron is better wide open, but I can’t see spending that amount of money when the F4 is adequate.
It's like I want this to expand my lense stash but at the same time I'm a street photographer that's slowly dipping into still shots. I got a a7ii with the nifty 50mm so I'm still not sure if I need this or some other lense from Tamron that can both be used for street and still. But can also be used for night time
For street photography a good all in one might work. Tamron is supposed to have a 28-200 coming out sometime. That and a 50 prime would be good to walk around with.
Cool video! Cute and smart model. Im working w Sony 16x35 2.8 Looking to add a 85mm 1.8 real soon. Id also like to add an 70-200. This video was legit! Thanks!
I’ve got a A7iii and A9. I would definitely do the tamron over the F4 for indoor sports. I think you would be ok with the tamron, but I didn’t get to test it in a gym. Buy or rent it right before a weekend where you have a few shoots. If you don’t get enough keepers send it back. Then go for a used Sony 2.8 instead.
Thanks. I appreciate it. I really like the review you did on this lens as well. Anybody reading this head over to LA LOVE CREATIVE and check out his review. The Melanin was Poppin in his review also :0)
I think you forgot the focus speed a little slow please your using f8 on a7iii. when using f8 the i believe your using contrast focus rather than phase detection.
I like how you interviewed your model. She did a great job and it was nice to see her personality.

This is EXACTLY the comparison I was looking for in the scenario I wanted to see. Thanks and subscribed!

I love that! “Give me some attitude for those that might not like Melanin!” :-)
Came to say the same! Best line in any photography video...ever. Beautiful model and great photos! Subscribing in 3...2...1...
The Tamron looks very tempting, I still rock a Nikon 80-200 f2.8 which I love but it weighs a ton. Great model, she looks like great fun to work with.
She was fantastic to work with. Great personality and could pose like crazy.
I had the 80-200 f2.8 that had the push pull focal distance. Great lens.

Michael Parker Exactly. I was going to put those last two points of yours in the video, but I didn’t want the video to be too long.
I'd really love to get the F4 because I usually shoot in daylight , events or occasion , so the light is not a problem , because i have different lens for a lowlight situation but the Tamron is tempting ...

Awesome job bro!! Love it man!! This was fun to watch and the model did an awesome job!!!
Thanks. Just trying to do me. She was amazing tho. #cheatcode
super nice pictures and the interview was awesome as well!
As far as lenses go, Tamron for me
Thanks for the video. Wondering how the lens goes with low light, fast shutter speed images? Specifically looking at pairing this lens with a A6400 for some night motorsport photography. Thanks!

Thanks. That’s the best compliment you can get on UA-cam. It’s hard to stand out between 40 other reviews. I appreciate it.
Welcome back... haven't seen you since the compilation with photomeike
Thanks. The quarantine has slowed things down but hopefully now I can get things going again.
Nice review. Been debating which of these lens to get. I already have the Tamron 28-75, Sony 85MM 1.8 and 50mm 1.8
kim fraser thanks. what do you shoot and what other lenses do you have?
@@MichaelWrightPhoto Welcome. I have Tamron 28-75, Sony 85MM 1.8 and 50mm 1.8 and i shoot mostly portraits in a studio.

Wow. A really good comparison video. Not this typical " i take a photo of a brick wall" video :)
Thanks. Those videos drive me crazy. I saw one where they photographed trees to show sharpness. 🤦🏽♂️
Great video, brother! I own the 70-180, I sold my 85 1.8 for the Sigma 105.
Thanks. Just curious, how is the focus consistency on the sigma?
I have the Sony 70-200mm f/4 G OSS lane and the Sony 85mm f/1.8 lens. Although the Tamron is interesting to me, sine I love my 26-75mm f/2.8 Tamron lens, I think that I will stick with my two Sony lenses. Typo in first sentence - meant to write "lens" not "lane" Sorry... I also meant to write "since" not "sine" in the second sentence - double sorry!

Ayyyy good stuff next time ill use your code. Rented the canon rf 50 1.2 the other day cant wait to get it today.
Thanks I appreciate the support. Be sure to use the link. Eventually we gotta meet up. You are right down the street from me.
For indoor sports would you suggest the Tamron? Also which Sony body do you use?
I’ve got a A7iii and A9. I would definitely do the tamron over the F4 for indoor sports. I think you would be ok with the tamron, but I didn’t get to test it in a gym. Thanks for the comparison between all three. And wow she's so beautiful 😫

BTW you can extend the sony warranty up to 5 year for cheap. At leat in EU.
