Nice job, pretty comprehensive covering the differences. 👍 Another issue someone may run into is if they are using a superduty engine as a short/long block to drop into an OBS, the valley isn't drilled/threaded for the mechanical fuel pump and fuel bowl, and the cam lobe was also deleted.

As an older Ford tech I started my time in 1991 all the way to 2014 I've been there with the 6.9 and 7.3 IDI and all the years of electronic controlled 7.3 the technician was never schooled in the internal changes just external and repair. I still own a 2000 7.3 and have been looking for a cross reference book that would help with a 7.3 IDI over to a 01 7.3 super duty project. I have some books that became out of date about the time the 6.4 came out. dealership let us have the books or they threw them out. Like to hear more of your findings. Nice clean build you have going

Awesome video. I know you've basically covered this, but I've got access to some 97 heads. I have a Super Duty. Would you say that I could use those for it? The valve guides are better than mine.
i recently bought a 1995 F-superduty - this is what the tag says on the body. it has hydroboost. so it is OBS body style, but is super duty too. to complicate matters, they did a short block on it 30K miles ago. presently a crank -no start. planning to replace 7 bad glow plugs and put in new under valve cover harnesses.
An F-Superduty is an OBS. Where as a Super duty is a 99+ truck. The “F-“ really makes the difference when you’re talking about either truck online. Even in my videos, you’ll hear me say F-Superduty or Super duty when I’m talking about the trucks. The two trucks are completely different trucks and being specific with wording makes a difference. Just like the serial number break down. Hope you get your truck going!

Do a shorter belt. The issue at hand is, you have to have the right tensioner. If you have the updated duallie tensioner, you’re SOL as no belts fit. And I had that problem with the short tensioner as well.
There are "coffee table books" that go over the 7.3 differences in detail. I have the digital copies of the 2 of them. I found them when someone had uploaded them online. I did this video because everyone knows the 7.3 has differences, but how and where the differences occur can be difficult to find, or know.
Interesting info. I was told by a PSD mechanic in Alaska that one couldn't install a Superduty 7.3L PSD in an earlier mid 90s OBS 7.3L PSD truck due to all the changes. Listening to your video (once through), it sounds like I received the wrong information. Also, did you receive my email?

If your Block is stamped with the T444LF, it is a reman. I have a reman block here, and its stamped T444LF, then a 270405. The 255213 is your serial, and your engine has been remanufactured. Likely by Ford. However, since its a reman, it could have a timing cover that does not match the serial. Remans were purchased as a short, or long block, and not a complete, drop in engine if I am not mistaken. So, if you have a 1995, and someone put a reman engine in it, its likely going to have the 1995 timing cover on it. Sometimes the serial is on the timing cover, or HPOP Res as well, but usually only is a sticker.
Is it hard to put a super duty 7.3 in an obs. My truck has no motor or exhaust as of right now. I am doing a ground up restoration on the truck and need a motor. I am having a hard time finding a 7.3 from a 96 like my truck but a friend of mine has a super duty engine from a 2000 f350 that runs good he'll sell me for 500 bucks. But I don't know how involved of a swap that would be. Any info is appreciated. Thanks
You’d have to still source some parts from the OBS truck. Or you’ll have to modify the wiring for the alternator and make custom AC lines since the SD trucks have the alternator and AC compressor flipped from the OBS trucks. At that point, you’d also have to change the fuel system in the valley, or run e-fuel, which I’d do the e fuel.
@@GarrettsOBSGarage in your opinion, what's the best way to add e-fuel to one of these trucks. I will probably end up using the super duty motor because I can modify the wiring harness and I can make ac lines where I work.
@@jadenwaltonn8332 You have a few options on E fuel. You can do a custom setup and make your own feed and return lines in the valley. Or buy a system from Irate Diesel, or Marty’s Diesel. I’ve used parts of both and made my own. It’s basically whatever you want to do, and what you want to spend. Keep in mind you’re going to have to get a kit for the SD engine, but setup for the OBS truck. Since the SD truck has an electric pump already, you may be able to install the electric pump in line and run the OEM SD fuel bowl, however the fuel routing on the SD is problematic, and you’ll also need to change the injectors to single shot and not split shot.
I have a 96 f350, 7.3. I replaced the hpop and found out maybe a 95? 7.3, the hpop reservoir gasket is the oring and RTV type. I swapped the hpop for a non check valve type the 96 would use. But if it's a 95 7.3, it needs the check valve in the hpop. I stopped the work and located the engine serial behind oil cooler: 7.4J U2U 074994* I've looked all over and can't find a "decoder" on the internet. I need to figure out what date this engine is so I can get the correct parts. Got any ideas?
The serial numbers are in the video. However you have a 94/95 engine based off the serial number. Early 95 or later 94 to be exact. The only numbers you need off the block are the 074994. That’s the serial number. So either someone has changed something on your truck or done a part replacement that was incorrect.

Unless someone put a 94/95 front cover on a 96 block (not sure you can do that) then at some point the engine was swapped for 94/95 and they put the 96 water pump on that older block (not sure you can do that either.) I assume the 94/95 engine and front cover takes the hpop with the check valve and the one I got without the valve will not work. I'll do some calling around Monday. Thanks again for your help!
And we can one step further with this .... with the super Dutys 🤗🤗 some of us were blessed with Factory Forged rods that will hold 600 hp most days and the later super Dutys came with powdered metal rods ..... Those will hold around 423 horsepower a few pulls 😂😂 😂 I love a Nice Green sticker valve cover 7.3 . They hold up the best
The PMR Rods were useless! For some reason, they went to PMR, then back to Forged, then back to PMR. The SD Engine in this comparison is a forged rod engine thankfully! I covered the change over serials in the video for that as well.
I have an OBS but I found a 7.3 long block from a 2002. I'm thinking about getting it if all my accessories will swap over. What do you think brother should I pull the trigger on this long block?
The 99+ trucks don’t have the numerous changes that the OBS trucks did. In the video I break down when the PMR rods came and went in the 99+ trucks, which was the only change they made.

I have a 2002 E350 and its interesting how I can change the serpentine belt without pulling the radiator hose. I can see why thanks to your video. 😂

Hey Garrett can you go into more detail on your vacuum pump delete on the OBS? Do you put in an idler pulley or get a different belt?

Check the serial number. That block will likely have PMR rods. Which aren’t very good.
