- PLUGIN ALLIANCE LINDELL AUDIO 50 SERIES vs ACUSTICA AUDIO PINK || API Channel strip plugin shootout
Lindell 50 channel.. its finally out.. and that means its time for an API plugin comparison.. who you guessed .. acustica audio plugins!
This includes an api 2500 compressor plugin shootout as well as comparisons of APU 500A, 500B and 560 eqs in Pro tools 2020. These API hardware units will be found in most audio engineering studios and have found there way into most audio engineers arsenals. Its a plugin review i've certainly been waiting to do for quite some time!
In usual mixing wednesday fashion, a Paul Third plugin demo wouldnt be proper unless it included DDMF plugin doctor to check out linear frequency response and hofa blind test plugin will be used in the plugin shootouts and mvmeter 2 will be used to ensure all units are recieving -18dbvu.
This plugin is included in our MEGA Bundle and MIX & MASTER Bundle Subscriptions at no extra cost!
Transform your music production DAW into an analog desk
There’s a tight and powerful sound to API consoles, preamps, and EQs that have made them some of the world’s favorites for creating professional-sounding drums, guitars, synths, and more with attitude and presence. Thanks to Brainworx’s patented Tolerance Modeling Technology* (TMT), you can now access the most convincing model of these classic consoles ever, including the slight channel-to-channel variances in the values of their analog components.
Truly a universe of choices
The Lindell 50 Series does more than just model a single console. It provides you with an array of choices in the dynamics and EQ sections, allowing you to swap in your favorite style of these classic 500-series modules. Use them on busses or individual tracks.
Multiple EQ options
Choose between three classic EQs - the semi-parametric 50A EQ for three-band processing, the 50B for four bands, and the 60 for a precision graphic EQ for radically reshaping sounds in a way that’s as transparent and flexible as it is fun.
Two amazing compressors
The VCA compressor models API’s high end 2500 series compressor, with additional controls to improve upon the original. Meanwhile, the included FET compressor got the tone, simplicity, and ease of use of the original 500 series, as it is modeled after the famous API 525 compressor.

New 'scientific' shootout link below with proportional q's, curves matched and both units defaulted to hardware. Both matched within an inch of their plugin life! Haha
ua-cam.com/video/EZ5lJM_yD2A/v-deo.html
FYI I don't own pink (trial) but do own lindell so in all honesty was in my best interest to get the Lindell to either match or win this shootout, thus why I took hours doing back and forths.
I just want to confirm that (after being told now) that the Acustica q is automatically set narrower in the 500B which is why the q's don't match in Lindell till they are hit harder. If you have the button in the bottom left of each pink eq enabled in 500b then I can confirm that the q's do indeed match from 0-12db. Apologies for this and I have edited the video to adjust.
However, I prefer the Pinks 500B with the q so it narrows earlier. It sounds much better to me that way and results in a better mix in my opinion.. Probably the reason why acustica have this set default.
So regardless, if you want the Lindell 50b to sound like the pink the way I had it, and the way I've heard most use it then you have to hit the Lindell harder.
AGAIN ITS ALL JUST MY OPINION! I've set both so they are at optimum settings using all the tools I had at my disposal in both plugins. If one sounded better, then I went back to the other one till I felt that I had them both set to the best they could offer.
I've spent so long on this so i can realistically give you the best representation of both. There are no right and wrong answers and my aim here is that I've done enough of a job to give you the best sounds that I could get out of them and how they compare over a mix 🤓
I tend to agree with you, but in
the end I think they both can be great tools. The ADA conversion was a factor when modeling, as were the cables and of course the very units that were sampled. We once did some listening tests comparing Grimm TRP and Mogami cabling and the difference was *not* subtle but great records have been done with both. We have UAD and a PA subscription, don’t own AA but in this comparison I did generally prefer Pink. I’d love to hear comparisons vs the hardware, but thank you very much for taking the time to do such exhaustive tests bro.
ua-cam.com/video/YIKc749o8MI/v-deo.html
Theres a manley vari mu I done with pulsar mu and AA magenta a few weeks back 🤓
I've also done an la2a, ssl g bus comp & pultec analog plugin shootout
@@PaulThird So did AA stack up? Will look for your tests to hear them. Thanks so much for taking the time to do these bro.
To me it's close enough to consider not paying 3 grand. Near identical
Thanks paul for uploading a comparison the second day of release
Thanks.. Really appreciate it.. My wife doesn't but glad you guys all do. Makes the hard work worthwhile 👊🙌
Thanks for putting in all that time, Paul. Very glad Pink held up to scrutiny. You saved me $129!!!
🤓🤓🤓
Lindell smoked Pink in the full mix test! Much warmer, glued, and punchier.
See I thought the exact opposite haha.. But.. In the end I hope that its still helped as its gave you a better idea of which you prefer 🤓
I think the opposite. But there you go.
um, no
yea PA is the newer Plugin, so probably improvements been made. Also bigger budget.
@@MacReviewzOnline PA has nothing to do with it. Lindell made this. PA is just the vendor.
Great test. Appreciate you doing this. I am obsessed with the API sound and own just about every API plugin there is (I also own 550a hardware and a 5500). For me, the Lindell wins purely on workflow and versatility alone. I also prefer it’s sound. The beauty of all of this is it’s all subjective. For me, the Lindell sounds more modern and tight which is more to my taste, the UAD has a dirty low mid sound, and the Pink 4 sounds more round, soft, and vintage to me. Depending on the song, one may be favored over another so it’s nice to have all of these options! But if I could only pick one, it would be the Lindell.
That's what I struggle most with online is people remembering that it's subjective and my opinion is just one persons opinion and doesn't define the plugin. I own the Lindell and not the pink (just a demo) so I'm pretty gutted I didn't like it as much.
Thanks for you input as well.. Appreciate it 🤓
I honestly don’t think it matters much which one you own, they all sound amazing! And of course, a good engineer will do amazing work with any of them. ;)
@@ryanrichko yeah the Lindell is still a great sounding plug!
@@PaulThird sorry Paul third for earlier but everyone has their taste the Lindell 50 is modeled after a lunchbox series eq than the Acustica eq
It's cool man. I woke up to a bit of a shit storm yesterday and it was a bit much haha had to edit the video and reply to like 30 different comments. It's calmed down now though.
I'm pretty sure the Acusticas are based off the lunchbox eq's as well as they are calling the eq's hardware devices. Nornally they say console if it's console eq's.
I'm away to do a very quick scientific test with purely just the matched q's. No tmt, proportional Q in eq b, thd set to default. Everything set as if I was using the hardware as Dirk really pissed me off with his blanket statement so I need to come back haha
Most obvious disparity on overheads, with Pink clearly winning. Drum bus, on the other hand, quite close. Anywho, another bang-up job by Mr. Third. What other UA-cam shootout show goes this indepth? Cheers.
Thanks man 👊 really appreciate it after all the work I put into this one.. Early night for me tonight 😅
Thanks for another excellent comparison, Paul! I can see where the Lindell has its place in the pantheon of plugins; it feels, to me, like it hypes the sources, exaggerating the material in a sort of smeary way. In comparison: the acustica audio Pink just feels more open, particularly in the upper mids and, although it’s not as “glued”’ together it feels more natural and musical to me. Nice work mate!
Thanks Ryan.. Appreciate it 🤓
Thanks for the video, Paul!
Is it possible to use once istance of AA's Pink on, let's say, 30-40 channels simultaneously? Knowing Acustica Audio plugins' CPU hunger I presume it isn't possible. If that's the case, then it kind of defeats the purpose of channel strip, no matter how good it sounds.
Also please note that proportional EQ button is disengaged on AA plugin (a small button to the left of EQ sections), based on screenshots, whereas in Lindell this proportional EQ mode is default, as far as I understand. Proportional EQ makes the band more narrow as you boost or cut more dBs. That's why notches are different when you boost or cut more than 4 dB. I may be wrong, though.
I also really like the TMT option in Lindell Plugin (which is brainworx patented feature), which creates slight channel-to-channel variations in terms of phase response, frequency response, harmonic distortion and EQ curves (similar to what a real console does), therefore contributing to the overall sound of the mix, making it "wider" or "deeper" or whatever.
Cheers!
I've edited the video to make it a little bit more clearer knowing what I know now. Just need to add in a few text cards via UA-cam studio and it should be better.
The oversampling x16 is worse cpu but the lower options you can definitely load many more instances but sound quality isn't there for me at lower oversampling options.
I freeze anyway so cpu never bothers me
Hi Paul!, in the final mix, the Lindell sounds clearer to me, and the Pink a little bit muddy
Brilliant! I just wish I felt the same as I dont own the pink but have the Lindell due to the sub. I adore the 80 channel as its my favourite neve plug so it's in my best interests to prefer the lindell but.. Just unlucky for me that it's not my preference.. I'm gutted! Still great sounding plug though. If it had the narrow q option in the 50b I would 100% use this hands down

Thanks so much. Appreciate it 🤓
You do God's work paul. I got enough API esque plugins and Pink is my favorite.
Thanks so much John. Makes the effort worth it 👊
I have Pink 4 , it's sounds AMAZING !
I was pretty surprised by the quality which is surprising in itself due to it winning every acustica poll
Have both and prefer the Lindell, especially in workflow and the compressors. Great Job Paul.
Thanks 🤓
Both are great. Its really what are you looking for. I would have to adjust both myself to make a clear winner. But I thought they were so close and would change that with a little eq and comp adjustments. Also you have to consider the wideness of the track and that can be adjusted too, So I say either would be nice to have.
Thanks I liked the pink when I herd it it sounded clearer and that was before I knew what was what
That's the beauty of blind tests 🤓
Hi ! Very nice review, thanks! Do you think that would be possible to run 10-15 channels of Acustica Pink Channel Strip in a DAW or it would crash for CPU-RAM? Using Lindell Audio 50 Series on 4x or 8x oversampling wouldn't be more "affordable"?
To be honest, I freeze so I can run as many plugins as I want. I don't like being limited by CPU so I adapted my workflow.
It also depends on your DAW, sample rate and proccessor. PT is probs the worst for CPU while reaper is the best. I'm on Pro tools so utilise their track folders with freeze and commit. Never looked back.
X16 oversampling is really what you should be using if you want maximum sound quality out of the Lindell. I was really surprised in the difference.
@@PaulThird thanks !!
Always on.
Have you tried the Softube American Class A :)?
Nah. I've got all the waves and slate so never really had any real urge to try it out.. Especially due to softubes crippling price tags 😅😅
@@PaulThird Got it with their Volume 4 on a crazy sale. It's really good, not Pink good but very useful all the same.
@@simonrussell77 I almost bought the Softube Class A because I REALLY like the interface. I wish more analog inspired plugins would give you the visual feedback of digital like it does, showing you the curves applied etc
It was gonna be part of the shootout originally but I had trouble getting the demo to work
I also agree about the visual curves. It's a very very cool feature with the softube
Guys, who tried eqs from Overloud? In particular eq550. Is it possible to wind something similar? Surprising very, very small loads on the PC
thanks for doing this , im not a fan of acustica as i had nebula and it was a pain in the hole . but it clearly sounds better / has a real vibe than the lindell. it sounds alot more alive or something .
Thanks for commenting Tony 🤓
Were PA Shines, is your use them as Bus Summing......Lindell 80 and 50 Bus Plugins...cannot be matched as summing
Anyone know how the Softube stacks up?
Damn. I'm a Pink fan but I picked Lindell on the mix. It has its time and place as well.
🤓🤓
Thanks for doing the shoot out! I'll stay with the Pink! Yeah! And I'm a big fan of the 560 - works wonders on lots of signals and has a wonderful 1k! :D
Yeah I was very surprised 🤓
Thanks man! The video helped
🤓🤓
Oh dear, confused I am. Been reading gearspace and now watching this review of the PA Lindell 50. Have more channel strip plugins than I can cope with but with todays PA offer and a voucher, I could get this for £22 (Acustica's is a serious outlay for something I might not take to). Should I just buy the PA one at this piffling price s being a lot more interesting than missing the API experience altogether? Decisions, decisions ha ha.
At that price If you like the sound of the Lindell buy it. If you don't.. Don't buy it. That's genuinely the best advice I could give haha
@@PaulThird Brilliant Paul and thanks esp for such a quick reply. Always respect your reviews and was pleased to find that 4 out of 5 of your still used Waves plugins matched mine. Although I try not to buy Waves any more as their modus operandi irritates me, some of their plugins hold up v well esp at the constant sale price. Anyway, as an OAP on a budget and who is enjoying trying out different stuff.... I just bought the PA Lindell 50. I suspect my ears will get it doing interesting stuff even if not as exquisite as Pink. Really though I need treatment for my Pluginomania Addiction Syndrome.
X4 oversampling should be enough to remove the aliasing unless your really going in hard, compressing and cranking the THD then you may need x8
@@PaulThird Noted. I read on gearspace also I think that it likes to be driven hard into, preceding it with a gain plugin if need be. Might explore that (or have you?)
Harder you go into the plugin the more it will alias. 0vu in the plugin is -18dbfs so if your going in really hot I'd be using X8 or x16 oversampling
Hey Paul, great stuff as always. My only comment is, I'm not seeing a CPU hit at all in 16X oversampling. I'm floored actually at how efficient it is at 16X. I'm also working at 48khz so maybe that has something to do with it. Haven't tried it in 96 yet.
Yeah it killed me at 96khz haha tbh if you mix at 48khz i can see it being much better on CPU. X8 was more in the region on Acustica. I'm not gonna lie. I've been using Lindell 80 channel for god knows how long and just found out this week that Lindell plugs have oversampling. I don't even want to think how good that 80 channel will sound now 😱😱
@@PaulThird Haha dude I had the same realization not too long ago. I really like their 254e and one day I looked at the manual for something and saw the note about OS. Changed it to 16 and it blew my mind haha. Great content as always!
I just commented on your previous video few mins ago and it's up now, holy cr*p :)
Perfect timing 👌😂
LINDELL BEST!
What did you like most about it in comparison? 🤓
PInk is the LAW! in the full mix has a clearly more depth, punch and no-mudiness
Have you tried the Console 1 API? I have it but I couldn't tell you how faithful it is as I've never used a real API console. It sounds different to the Waves API though.
My wife was going to get me a console 1 for my 30th and decided on a new limited edition Gretsch instead as it looks nicer in the house haha so not been able to try out the softube. However if you put waves and Lindell into plugin doctor.. Same curves but Lindell absolutely smokes the waves on saturation due to the THD. The waves analog button just adds noise and 1 order of harmonic.. Very tame in comparison haha
@@PaulThird Ah cool! Yeh would have been a tough choice too! I can only recommend the C1 if you have a D.A.W with full intergration, otherwise it's just time consuming. C1 has the Drive Knob with Character slider, I dunno how faithful the saturation is, I wonder if I can put that through plugin doctor and see. ( I think the API is available as VST too, so perhaps you could Demo it, although u must be sick of testing API's now hah.
I don't know whether to include it in the API 5500 hardware shootout. I'm still thinking but I still don't know exactly what api the softube is emulating
@@PaulThird Yeah that would be cool! ahh I know, I wish companies would just say exactly what it's emulating. I get they can't name it API, but at least say it's simulating API xx. It's like a cover band say, "Nuns n' Moses" they can say we try to make music sound exactly like guns n roses. Why is it any different? :/
@@PaulThird Hmm I just tried to load Console 1 into plugin doctor, and it just crashes :'(
Another Cracking video Paul... 🙂
... And amongst all the wheres and Whys... A good point regarding the Freezing of tracks... (get a good sounding track and freeze it) can always add a little something later to tweek...
Can I ask - would it be on the cards to do a video that compairs the varuous Acustica preamp / eq channels... 'VERSES' the PA TMT
I started with various plugin from the Plugin Boutique, then I latched into Waves Audio, then it was Plugin Alliance (with their TMT), now I'm onto Acustica Audio (wonderful and amazing - and I've noticed they also model variations of the same gear).
All the best - Paul C 🙂
Thanks Paul 👊
The problem with TMT vs AA pre is there are so many variables and sooo many options. Would be a bit of a nightmare to compare. Also TMT doesn't give you altered harmonics when I tested it where AA pre's do so a bit of variance to come to a conclusion haha
I'm all about trying to narrow the variables if possible haha
I liked the Lindell better on everything except guitars (solo). I own 6 API 550B eqs and Lindell gives me more of the vibe of the hardware than Pink. There's something eerily clear and HD in Pink, compared to my hardware. Also, Acustica's compressor definitely didn't have any vibe and convincing character, but I'm used to Tim P's and UA compressors being more accurate 10/10 times. Great video! Thank you for all of your efforts!
The THD definitely helps in the Lindell. Without it I feel its totally lacking. In my drum bus comp shootout the pink 2500 didn't win, it was actually the DMG trackcomp. The Lindell 2500 has more saturation but it just lacked the transients too much for me to consider using it. Again like yourself im very used to timP comps now so my standards are very high.
What kind of converters do you have when using your 550B?
@@RealHomeRecording -- UA Apollo x16 clocked with Grimm Audio CC2.
Glad i own both…I’m torn…lol
My main issue with Acoustica compressors is they don't do enough. The EQ's are amazing, but the compressors are so subtle in what they do that I really can't get them to be useful for much. I do like the color and they make really cool stuff in general, but it seems like the whole "sampling" compression thing just isn't as useful as a standard algorithm for me yet
Depends on which compressor you use. Hit and miss for me. Camel super comp, magenta, titanium, ultramarine and especially the cola comp I tried this week are the ones that do it for me but yeah strange how it's so hit and miss.
However if your looking for the best sampled comps try out the n4 third party guys especially Tim Petherick.. That man is the master of plugin comps!!
@@PaulThird awesome. Thanks for the heads up I will def look into demoing those. I never got on with the Nebula stuff back in the day but I have of course heard all the hype and I hear the newer versions are better now so I'll have to check those out.
Great Channel by the way, you're one of the few folks who cover acoustica stuff and you provide very detailed, fair analysis. I'm 100% a fan
Thanks so much Jon 🤓👊
Get the aquamarine from acoustica that will definitely do it🔥🔥🔥 it very far from subtle very very aggressive in a good very quality way.
have you considered compared the Pink to the Softube American Class A? I think that's the only other API emulation in the algo world
Is the softube not a seperate api console though where these are 500 rack eqs? I couldn't get my head around exactly what the softube was emulating
@@PaulThird I think it has the EQ, comp and gate
Just one eq?
@@PaulThird The Softube is based on an API 5500 stereo EQ, which can be approximated by two API 550B units...
Ahhh thanks man 🤓 the pink has a 5500 in it (eq C) so I could do one in the future as I know analog access a has a 5500 hardware unit 🤓
There is few issues with this video for me.
1. this whole thing abotu having to crank Lindell to match the curves, well that's cause he's not matching things properly, he needs to turn on proportional button on Pink, then they match very quickly, from Pinks manual - The Q is constant by default. Click on the PROPORTIONAL Q button for hardware like behavior.
2. Then if you choose a Pre on Pink that is for the EQ/HW in question that will line things up further, the freq response shown was without the Pre on with Pink, this changes things a bit too.
3. They are not being propelry gain staged is my guess, I may be wrong, Pink has a trim at -18dB, where as there is none on the Lindell, so unless this has been compenstated for then this will affect results too.
This is all in regards to the claims about freq response and why he would of found it hard to match for 550A & B. These tests really need to be redone for those.
OK let me answer these points
1. & 2. I mixed the pink intuitively I.e. the way I thought sounded best, which in the B was to have the default Q and also the pre's are available to use in the strip so I used which sounded best.. Again using it intuitively. That's the benefit of acustica sometines that you can mix and match. Many people say to me that tools are tools and that's how I mix with them.. That's what I done here. I mixed with both plugs intuitively to get the best results to result in a more realistic review and shootout. If it was a hardware comparison trying to get the plugs to sound like hardware then I completely understand and agree but I wanted to know why pink has been voted as the best AA plugin by its community. Mixing intuitively with Lindell I couldn't get the same results so I spent hours to see if I could which in the end I basically did.
3. All gain matched correctly using MvMeter2. All inputs set to -18. I didn't touch the inputs on both plugs. Left them all defaulted at 0 (Acustica defaults at 0dbvu). In plugin doctor with the proportional q engaged the 50b curves do indeed match and both inputs untouched and defaulted so I can confirm both are gain stages correctly.
@@PaulThird yOu said you couldn't get things to match and was very hard in the video, and seeing hte setting on the plugins, what I said stands. Sounds like you went back and tried to fix this up and have not properly explained and re shown what is happen and thus my comments. From the balls up you had by not researching the gear your trying to shoot out it's causing confusing in the video it very much seems.
It's great you like pink beter and more intuativite. but when u say shootout it should be done eye for eye as best, using the right pres etc etc. I knwo the beauty and joy of acustica and mix and matching etc, I use them alot. But yeah, this is one confused video.
That's your opinion and your entitled to it.
Obviously I disagree because a shootout to me is trying to get the best out of each unit. Using all the tools they have. If somebody gives you additional options your most likely going to use it.
IF I had done it piece for piece then
the TMT would need to be off which after dirk getting a patent for I would have got my balls chewed for not including it. The THD would need to be default as well and I would have had many complain that I didn't utilise all that saturation that the bus side offers. I could have added in a separate pre if I wanted and drove the pink harder but I didn't.
The harmonics aren't the same either in both plugs either so again variables. I also didn't try out the 5500 eq (C) so many can complain that I could have made the pink sound better. There are variables outwith my control regardless which is why they sound different in the context of a mix even when I managed to get them near identical in solo.
I admit when I'm wrong but hands down I would have done the same shootout as when I'm done I'm done. I don't go back to the plugs normally so I always normally like to leave knowing that I used all the tools given to see which plugin I can get the best results out of for me.
I'm still annoyed I didn't try out the C eq cause I sit here wondering if I could made the AA better and that I've actually given some viewers a disservice by not including it
I stand by my shootout. In hindsight I would have loved to explain why the curves are different in the video but I've now edited it so it doesn't make out that the Lindell has an issue. but even still I would've chose the B eq with the default curves as I wanted to show the best sound I could get out each plugin. I've said it twice in the video that I mixed the Lindell intuitively and the results weren't as good. Only fair to use what the devs give you. So I used the TMT & THD in the lindell (would've used the FET comp as well if I couldve got a decent sound of it) and the pre's and curves that Acustica gave me.
I used my ears in the end which is the most important thing.
Nice presentation of the plugins , i think the Acustica Pink is better the compressors is more punchier and transparent and the eqs sounded more rounded and warm sounding without harshness , thanks for your effort, i want to ask you the name of the track and if the multitracks is avalaible somewhere thanks again
Thanks Thomas 🤓 the song is patiently from campaign like clockwork

@@PaulThird Thanks and keep on rocking!
🤘🤘
The vocals was the game changer to me ,, i felt more depth it was 3 dimensional,, but again fuckin CPU
I know but if you use freeze or commit in your workflow then you won't run into cpu issues
Softtube has an API channel strip too that's very good. I love the Tone Empire Model 5000 too. Kush Audio's Axis is modeled after the API 550B which ok. Slate Digital version of API products is Eh....I love some Waves plugins but their versions of the API products are not on the level as the other API emulations
Waves API's analog switch just adds noise and a third order harmonic.. So half arsed 😂
Right now Lindell is on sale at a good discount, but I don't think I need it, I have PINK !
Big Problem with AA they sound really Boxy and Really Mid Heavy and Harsh, meaning about a 1/4 of your Musical Quality and Smoothness of the Mix is going to be Taken away, the Lindell Series is Alot more Smoother, Even and Musical thats why their frequency range is more loose...thats acutally alot more useful carving out the exact sound you want a smoother more musical, less boxy way....
How do they compare DSP/CPU usage wise?
With oversampling at x16 Lindell is more cpu intensive but apart from that id say Lindell is better with cpu at lower oversampling options
@@PaulThird Thanks
Love your stuff but you need to level match the comparisons more.
Thanks but they are all at integral LUFS.. I can't get them matched any closer haha 😅
Maybe just differences in dynamics, harmonics or frequency response your hearing but they are all at the same average level. I use youlean loudness meter
Get some sleep lol.
I would love for AA to make a replica Dangerous compressor.
I did.. And then my border terrier spewed all over the house 😅😅😅😅
thanks for the analytics, really good to see. Just a tip, the Plugin Doctor doesn't have a legend so i wasn't sure which plugin was which.
I'll have to sit both of these out. Acustica doesn't do offline installs so that's a non starter for me and the developer stated as such. Not really bothered about a subscription model either so i'll cross Plugin Alliance off. Thanks for the video though, a lot of effort involved.
I've gotten a bit of hate with this but the views are good so it still helps pay the bills haha
BTW you are 100% right about that offline installation. I think I told you different a while back and I don't know why I said that haha
@@PaulThird Not sure you're getting the hate. I much prefer someone analyse what these plugins are doing rather than just using buzzwords like 'warm', 'organic' to describe audio. Its good to see someone comparing one emulation to another as too many people get blinded by a nice GUI and marketing hype. My only criticism was the amount of adverts. Other than that keep it up
I have a question
Its about sound not curves. Its what you hear wot triggers eq decisions
But it's all related. The engineers that actually make the gear measure the curves and go for certain q factors and specific choices for a certain sound and ensure everything is calibrated correctly. It's a balance of both.
If you understand what it's actually doing and combine it with your ear you'll have a better understanding overall
Cleaner isn't always better. I prefer the warmth of the Lindell. The Acustica almost sounds almost too pristine.
Thats whats great about the shootouts. No right or wrong answers, just preference at the end of the day 🤓
Yeah.....it sounds to clean...to the point of sounding wierd...LOL
What i heard so far is that the acustica version sounds lively and more 3d and i dont know how to say it, just feels better overall
Pinks definitely more 3D due to the compressors
@@PaulThird the lindell still aliase a little with x16 oversampling that's why i use 192khz sample rate for export when using lindell plugins with the oversampling option the project sample rate is much more effective at removing aliasing and when combined it gets totally taken cared of. acoustica audio uses high oversampling option so the lindell will sound a bit muddier than it. Also the lindell can eq can be stepped, also as an emulation they did great on this one, the acoustica pink compressor doesn't sound even close to the hardware, it does it own thing even uad uad didn't nail it but lindell totally did a great job with this one.
Right now.....Analog Obsession, Klanghelm, SSL Native, Softube and Some Waves...are pretty much the only Plugins..that are not going to ruin your Mix.....Your Mix should already sound good before you even start to use mastering plugins....all your mix being ran through samples...boxy outs the whole mix
Lindell is way better time/phase-wise. You don't need to spend 46 hours trying it to hear it. You just need a decent set of speakers and a nice DA and it's instantly noticeable
The reason i took so long on it was due to the fact that I couldn't get as good a sound out the Lindell as I did the pink in 20 minutes. I had to listen harder and do many back and forths, freezing due to the x16 oversampling CPU usage, and HOFA blind testing in and out.
I gave the Lindell every opportunity possible to better or match the Acustica which going from a lot of comments it did so to me, the hours spent was worth it
@@PaulThird sure, but phase issues are so obvious in your blind tests and aa version is so blurry when you listen to the timing in a low end . I mean the difference is huge. And aa f*cks up all the punch you’ve had. IMO
Yeah I suppose I agree with that to an extent but I just like the sheen and glue it had in comparison.. Sound more like record to me.. Its just what I hear haha
Could be phase or whatever but I dunno.. I just like what I like haha Its all subjective at the end of the day anyway 🤓 if you prefer the lindell to the AA then I would say my end goal for the video was accomplished and the diffrences come down to subjectiveness.
@@PaulThird well... is prering in most linear phase eqs a subjective thing? No, it’s objective. Same with the way pink messes up your signal’s timing. But sure - it’s a matter of taste
Acustica can be bad for pre-ring ive been told. Not gonna lie its something I need to train my ear on to look out for it. I still prefer acustica though. Just is what it is
Acustica Audio forever
Lindell very very cool
What did you like most about it? 🤓
@@PaulThird Refinement!
Sampled same Hardware? Since when is Lindell Api?
Lindell also make seperste plugins
(pasted from plugin alliance website)
Vvvvv
FEATURES
72 different TMT (US Patent No. 10,725,727) channel emulations in one plugin, just like a real console
Switch between 3 different EQs modeled after the most popular 500-series lunchbox designs
Switch between 2 different compressors, VCA, and FET.
Emulation of classic API noise gate and expander
Capture the full, tight, and punchy tone of the classic API preamps, with automatic gain compensation
@@PaulThird OK good to know. Nevertheless 1. Every hardware is different even the same model can have different curves, sometimes even audible. I'm sure that another pink eq is different again...
All the Acustica pink plugins share the same impulse responses.. But true all from one sampled hardware so can be different comparing against a hardware. However, from the sampled convolution plugs vs hardware tests I've done thus far, the sampled plugs have came almost identical, even better in some cases if it's Tim Petherick compressor plugs. Just depends I suppose
@@PaulThird I own pink, but the 4 or 5 different equalizers don't sound the same. I can't imagine that they all behave in the same way. So check the other pink eq (curves) as well.
Ahhh right sorry I thought you meant the different versions. Think this is pink version 5. Yes, the EQ A, B, 560 and 5500 all have different curves. If it's A vs B I prefer the the B 9 times out of 10 due to the narrower curves, 500A are a lot wider. Didn't try out the 5500 though as the Lindell doesn't do it but the q's are definitely narrower in that model
Yeah, Lindell 80 series is pure magic, the 50.....not so much.
Great shootout and I came to the same conclusion.
🤓🤓
Pink sounds more open, more alive and more depth, the difference is there. Not going to hear it on your cell phone though, probably.
Problem is Pink 4 needs a super computer to use on many channels...on my computer Pink 4 channel strip with all EQs and "insane" mode turned on, equals Lindell 50 with 8 x oversampling on.
Lindell is definitely not bad and people who rent their plug ins on PA will be glad to see this on their list.
But Pink 4 just sounds better, in every way, on every element on this test.
I've been very surprised with the split in opinion on this. Maybe as much as 50/50. My only concern is that many of the listeners who picked Lindell will not actually use the x16 oversampling option like I did. Many who are not used to cpu like acustica will probs down sample or simply not use it as they are so used to having as much as they want in their session without errors. This is crucial as x16 is how you get that sound in the video. Even in x8 there is a big difference and you said its the same cpu as Acustica at X8 which again makes me feel that many won't even use X8 which is a lot more inferior to pink sound wise.
Lindells a great plugin no doubt about it but you need to unlock its full potential or its like having a ferrari and driving it like a fiat punto hahaha
@@PaulThird Yeah Lindell is not bad either. Might get it when it goes to 29,99 like all PA plug ins do after a year, or so, from their release date.
I heard it on my Iphone. And didn't want to because i don't own AA but do subscribe to PA. :)
@@raal007 PA has some brilliant plug ins. I prefer to wait and buy the ones I like for 20-30€, but they do have some excellent stuff.
I've been considering doing this myself and using the vouchers I get every so often and build them up. Tbh though I do use quite a lot of PA so would take me quite some time haha 😅
Every time pink wins in 3D sound....
That how I feel with the compressors in this shootout. The pink 2500 has much more punch to my ears
Hope Third is not your real family name. hehehe!
It is 😅😅 hahaha
In the final mix lindell is the clean winner .....for you only acustica plugins are good.....and this is not possible
It's just my preference haha
@@PaulThird Your great any way!
I'm happy you preferred the Lindell though as I like to hear everybody's opinions and it shows that I genuinely gave the Lindell all that I could 🤓 I'm gutted cause I don't own pink but have the Lindell haha it was genuinely in my best interests to prefer the Lindell haha
@@PaulThird great plugin I use it a lot ....I'm glad to hear that!
🤓
Both good but Pink won🙌
What did you prefer the most?
@@PaulThird aaahw man you know pink hands Down
I meant what did you prefer most in the pink compared to the Lindell. Sorry man I was to vague haha
@@PaulThird the cleaner warm thicker punch Lindell good too it sound alil more dirt grit which is good too on certain situations but the overall between the two pink sound a bit more better.
why would I wanna match Acustica Audio - don't care about them. This means Lindell sounds "warmer" lol...Usually PA is better then semi-pro companies, such as Acoustica...which is for older people...pros don't use it... just upgrade to UA...and yes, it's better than Acoustica ...
I really don't get these kind of 'plugin politics' comments. Plugins are tools. They are software. Like what even makes a plugin developer pro or semi pro.. And how do you make plugins for older people 😂😂😂
I own AA, PA sub, slate sub, waves, arturia, melda, izotope, noise ash, JST and many many more.
I don't care if they are 'semi pro' as you call it and doesnt matter to me who uses it. I only care about if that specific tool gives me the sound I prefer.. Simple. If it's PA, acustica, noiseash.. I don't give a crap.
I don't make decisions due to a brand, I make decisions using my ears....
@@PaulThird well all the newbie companies trying to enter the market with shiny GUI's imitating sound from 1985..that's all they do..emulate olden golden gear - so that's middle aged guys twiddling knobs til their grey ear hair grows out....us hip hop guys move on with something fresh and new in the meantime...
'us hip hop guys move on with something fresh'.. Would that be why Mike Dean made his own gainstation plugin with Acustica then modelling his own analog chain 🤣🤣
FYI you do know Acustica has been out since 2007? Say 13-14 years.. Hardly newbie
And also Jaycen Joshua and Derek Ali use vintage gear..
Actually most of the big hip hop records are being tracked through vintage gear.. Neve, ssl, API, 1176, la2a, pultec.. The list goes on and on so I'm struggling to see what this fresh and new thing is.
Have you actually tried any acustica plugs? I would have rather you just said I have a thing against acustica audio.. Not much of a reason.. Just dont like them, Instead of all this 'semi pro' nonsense and badgering on about them only being made for old people. Just be honest man.
@@PaulThird that was on the old days bruh! anybody coming up now don't use that anymore...nobody wants to sit on some old SSL or API and waste time... Why do we always have to go back in time...I don't write this on a 2005 phone either...
Advise emulation Maag EQ
There's 3 that I know of. Plugin alliance, acustica Jade and a free one that I can't remember the name of
@@PaulThird Yes, I found a free one. This is lkjb luftikus.
That's the one!
pleased with the analog button! Cool!
🤓🤓
If your computer can't handle Pink4, (mine barely does using the other plugins too) this is the next best thing.I refuse to freeze.
Then you'll need to use Lindell at less than X8 as pink cpu is the same as Lindell as X8 oversampling. I've checked as well as others. The quality is very different in the Lindell though under x16. You'll have lots of aliasing in the Lindell. That's the reason for the oversampling. Even says in the manual that aliasing is a problem within the plug thus the need for oversampling. If you like the sound at x4 and below then fair enough but no where near the pink at these levels
@@PaulThird I've been comparing Pink to the Lindell demo. You're right @ X8 makes a noticeable difference and doesn't even bust a sweat.I may pick up Lindell for channels and put Pink on the buss OR by time I decide which I like better, a new EQ will come out and I'll shelve both. I've got a bad case of G.A.S.On the bus sometimes I think Pink sounds airyer and warmer while the Lindell sounds crisper and tighter to my ears especially with the gate expander. I may end up with both.
I'm hopefully going to have a scientific shootout up today or tomorrow I looked closer to see how to get the curves near perfect using AA's proportional q's and essentially the only thing you can get near spot on is the 50b as the Lindell uses a 550b pre linear frequency response. It doesn't change when switching to A or B. The lindell 50a is a 50b with the EQ and filter of the 50a. The 50A should have a natural dip in the low end. I know cause I can see the A pre in the Acustica. Still very close but can't get identical
It'll make more sense in the video.
It's no use, whoever bought Lindell lost money😃
First!

PA want £265 for this. AAAHAAHAAHAA. Nope. They can shove software rental up their arse as well. :)
Give it 6-8 months and it'll go on sale. With a voucher it'll be even cheaper. Pick it up for like £29 at the end of the year probs
Was listening on an IPhone and completely agree with you. Have not adopted AA because of all the horror stories but the transients/punch do shine through on Pink. Was hoping they wouldn’t as I’m a PA subscriber.
I own quite a lot of acustica now.. But still not giving up my PA sub. No chance! Haha
AA have improved a lot over the years. Give em a try!
@@RealHomeRecording I was eyeing the Acquas just last night. :) Have a real 2254E but don’t have a 33609. Neither UAD, AA or PA have done a silver knob (33609 A), which seems strange but I do plan to compare what’s out there when I get a chance! Thanks @RealHomeRecording.com!
