The Porsche 911 GT2 lineage began with the 993 generation in 1993. Initially built to meet homologation requirements for GT2 class racing, the road cars were named accordingly (though badged as the 911 GT). The 993 GT2 featured widened plastic fenders, a larger rear wing with air scoops for improved engine cooling, and a 3.6 L twin-turbocharged flat-six engine. Over time, its power output increased from 316 kW (430 PS; 424 hp) to 331 kW (450 PS; 444 hp). Only 57 road cars were produced.
The 996 generation GT2 (2001-2005) was developed primarily as a road car. It featured a twin-turbocharged version of the GT3’s 3.6 L flat-six engine, producing up to 355 kW (483 PS; 476 hp). Aggressive aerodynamics and a limited-slip rear differential aided traction, making it a formidable performer on both track and road
