One of Walter Hill's last great films without a doubt. A tough, hard-boiled, no-nonsense, fast-paced action thriller that plays like an '80s version of The Wild Bunch.

Kristen Otten William Forsythe is great in this movie. My daughter met a few years ago in Providence, RI. He was staying at the hotel she worked out while doing a movie shoot. She said he was a real gentleman to everybody working at the hotel
It's really sad that Hollywood has lost all the creativity and originality that it once had. Movies like this are a rare breed, I mean Walter Hill, Andrew Vajna, Mario Kassar, and John Milius.......all those guys knew what an action movie was. They knew how to put together something exciting and thrilling and just all-around badass and Extreme Prejudice is fine example of their handy work and of a time gone by. When my children grow up I want them to be able to experience movies like this for how great they were, not the CGI-laden shit fests that are pumped out today.
It's because only 3 or 4 studios are left today and they're only interested in making sequels and movies related to other movies. For example, I just saw that they've made a new "Beverly Hills Cop" movie starring Eddy Murphy's Axel Foley character. WTF? The last sequel was in 1994, too long ago to do another sequel. But because it'll make zillions of dollars, that's all that matters.
My only problem with this movie is how horribly under-rated it is. And when the hell are we gonna get a good DVD edition in the States? Ok, I guess that's 2 problems.

Unfortunately, because Hill is a dick about releasing uncut films because he feels the finished product you see in the theater is all u need to see, it’s doubtful we’ll ever see the uncut version of this and another 48hrs.

The only blu-ray versions I'm aware of is the japanese version, which I bought a couple years ago for fifty bucks (looks like now it's going for 150.00), and the French blu-ray release. The Japanese plays on our blu-ray players and you can turn the audio to english.

This was actually a very good movie...with some great one liners. I like it when Rip Torn is in the truck with Nick and Nick says "You know the next thing your gonna complain about is the state legislator making women Rangers." And Rip says "I don't care as long as she's six foot six and mean as a rattlesnake." Then he says. "State legislators! Shit Jack, the only thing worse than a politician is a child molester." Which is about 95% true.
One of the best lines ever, Rip Torn to Nolte, "sh*t Jack the only thing worse than a politician is a child molester". And this was 34 years ago. They knew.
Of course they knew. What exactly do you think they've been up to in hollyweird since its inception? Maybe you prefer to look the other way so it doesn't taint your entertainment
When they make the mistake of what abandoned pick-up Jack is behind then as a consequence that poor bastard Garza gets half his foot blasted off is fantastic. I've remembered that cinematic moment since I was 10 years old. I loved it then and I love it now.
Best line in the movie, when the mercenaries rob the small town Texas bank, one of the good ol' boy hostages says to them "Are you boys all terrorists?", LOL.
I was home on leave from the Navy, in El Paso International Airport when the face sitting line was being shot. I had official business with my records at Ft. Bliss that day, and happened to be wearing my dress blues, when one of the AD’s approached me if I wanted to be in the shot, ( the idea was for William Forsythe to bust my chops being a sailor)… I CHICKENED OUT! I ended up staying for the shooting of the “face sitting “ line and watched from the sidelines. Biggest regret.

Once upon a time. I was stranded in a trailer park up in Northern Ontario. Working on a restoration project of a century old building. We had a television in our trailer but reception was poor. Maybe one channel if we were lucky. So we went to the local variety store and rented a vhs player and three movies. This was one of them. Must have watched it 15 times over the next two months. Never got bored of it. We only paid to have the vcr for a weekend but ended up keeping it for two months 😆 . Once we finished the job and were leaving for good we dropped the machine and movies on the front counter and walked out without saying a word.
Lemme guess. They had trouble verifying your I D. In order to rent the VCR because it kept coming back that you were K. I. A. in Viet Nam and your body was never recovered. So they just didn't bother.

I remember when I had this early military ID. They changed to CAC cards in the 2000s. You can tell the ID is not accurate on how they abbreviate the ranks. I maybe off because the Army went to three letter abbreviations. So MSGT (Master Sergeant) back then is now abbreviated MSG for the Army. SGT.1C is now SFC for Sergeant First Class. Plus in the ID they use rank instead of grade. E7 should be in grade. E8 for Master Sergeant O4 for Major.
I love how they’re actually characters or at least fun cartoons for the most part. Doesn’t take itself too seriously but always doesn’t forfeit the thrills of a real action picture either. Kinda a staple of how a popcorn action movie should function.
I prefer Clancy Brown, ‘cause he voices one of the most notorious villains in Nickelodeon. And he’s also done numerous villains- animated and live action. But I’ll always remember him as Mr. Krabs.
They had to Age up three of the characters to make their deaths work, Sgt Atwater, William Forsythe was born in 1955, his character was killed off in 1974, in real life he was 19, probably had to add 5-7 years on him. Sgt McRose, Clancy Brown, Born 1959, his character was killed off in 1972, he was 13, he was definitely aged up probably 15 years. Major Hackett, Michael Ironsides,great actor was born in 1950, his character was killed off in 1973, at the rank of Major, Ironsides age was 23. A major would’ve been probably in his or her 30’s , but don’t quote me. Coker and Biddle’s ages and deaths fit because Scott was born in 1961 and Mulhern was born in 1960, and were killed off in 1983-84, so it fits. Frys death date is 1977, but there is no known birth date for Dan Tillis. Great move all the same. Have it in my DVD collection.
It's a somewhat over the top homage to the action genre in general but it's entertaining as hell to watch with some of the best machismo dialog ever written. They had the actors to pull it off too. Nick Nolte, Powers Booth, Rip Torn and Michael Ironside!
Have to order it from Germany as a mediabook or France but it has embedded French subtitles you can't turn off but I have that version because it was cheaper than the mediabook

1000% Underrated movie, watched maybe tens of thousands of movies from many countries and still remember this when accidently encountered this video.
Jerry Goldsmith nailed it on the soundtrack. Makes the hairs in the back stand up.
Noticed some of the producers also worked on Total Recall. Getting major Total Recall vibes from the soundtrack in this clip.
