OK but I don't see why Microsoft couldn't've just updated the Xbox's firmware to support actual 360 controllers.
Not as simple as that as the Wireless 2.4ghz standard used is diffrent between the 360 & One/Series consoles, but sure as hell not stopping them making an adaptor that works on the One/Series that allowed a 360 controller to run, hell they could even just allow the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for PC work on Xbox One/Series.
Wish 8bitdo would make a wireless adapter.
I’d pay good money for that.
@@TheOneToKeepYouWaiting You can use a brook converter to use a 360 controller on the one/series/og xbox. Although if you want to play wirelessly you'll need the 360 wireless receiver for pc and connect that to the converter.
@@TheOneToKeepYouWaiting I dono if it works for consoles. But I got an adapter for my Win10 PC and it works beautifully.
@@arranmc182 you can just use the 360 adapter was released for pc on the one/series consoles
If it were wireless, the lights around the Xbox logo could be used to show how much battery life is left. Go from 4 segments to 1. Still, I think it's really cool that they made something like this.
don't just leave that idea in the comment section, go tell them through email or twitter, they said they are doing a wireless version
The lights around the controller showed what player you were?
@@ActNasty5 yes...
@@ActNasty5 yes there were lights around the Xbox logo kind of like the lights around the power button on the system
@@NanoNutrino oh he was saying it “could” for the new one. I thought he was saying the og one did that to show battery life. I was like uh i dont remember that
Thanks for taking the time, Kevin! Honored to have you as our first video reviewer for the Xenon. Like always, you're thorough, in-depth, and honest. You always deliver with your content, and we enjoy it immensely.
Was there any reason you used the D-pad from the launch 360 controllers vs the later models of the 360 controller with the rotating D-pad?
@@kainhighwind2 I would have perfer that one too
@@kainhighwind2 it costs less and as the name implies they replicated the controller bundled with Xenon consoles ;)
Any chances that you make this controller, Xbox 360 compatible? That would be great, judging how hard it is to find a good X360 controller.
@Hyperkin Alot of complaints about no wireless option and I agree with them. Could have gained so many sales, including my purchase but we're turning a blind eye to this one, sorry!
God if it were wireless I’d bite instantly
Same. I don’t really like the Xbox one controller, so much so that I’d rather wait for a sale on any multi platform game than play it for free on game pass. It’s frustrating how stingy Microsoft is with licensing out controllers without the ability to use wireless, I’d have bought the Duke controller, this one and a few others without hesitation if they had been wireless.
I might get it anyway depending on price in the uk
Same here
Exactly I would never use this with it being wired. Wireless would be a must buy
Same here I was disappointed when I found out their wasn’t a wireless version for the duke controller and this one.
I think this has the same kind of use case as NES and SNES controllers. People still love using them despite all of the features being available on better and more comfortable controllers. But sometimes it just feels off to play a game of that generation with a newer controller
Also, I think new Xbox Series -controller is too small
@@JV-ll1cu i agree, i have average sized hands, just longer fingers and it feels tiny. ps5 controller feels just right for me
@@JV-ll1cu the Series controller and 360 controller are almost the exact same size, I checked.
@@evanshireman5644 it's something about its shape. 360 controller just "fills" your handspace better.
Honestly the only controller I feel are better than the 360 ones are the Elite Controllers. Xbox One and PS4/5 controllers just don’t have the same build and quality feel as the 360 which arguably is the perfect controller bar the need for AA batteries.
360 controller is definitely one of my all time favorite controllers and seeing support for a variety of colors is great
Big props by playing Mass Effect in the background with the Xbox controller. Threw me WAY back.
They should make wireless 360 controllers that work on a 360
with the removable battery/cell pack, screw this internal battery sony garbage, i hated it on the ps3 and hate it even on the ps5 , just let me use my high quality rechargeable cells that i can be lazy with
That "feeling of roughness" you are talking about when comparing the analog sticks is called tension, and its one of the key reasons why people loved the original x360 controller.
I just realised that I use games walking motion alot more with the 360 then I did with the newer controller. The joysticks has just the right amount of stiffness for me to actually use it. Newer controller's felt way too smooth and barely any resistance.
Yup And that's the reason why I still use the Xbox 360 controller on PC compared to an Xbox one/Series X
Man i think xbox should make a hybrid line. Imagine a 360 controller with xbox series x dpad. Imagine a controller with 360 triggers that have hd rumble and the sticks should always be swappable
I ain't be harsh on them. If PC games are still working with my old X360 controller, that's good enough 👍
Thats the elite
and hall effect joy sticks from the g7 wired controller
@@MGrey-qb5xzhell yes … one day
@@loitersquadX ngl I had no idea g7 was modeled after series controllers dimensions, this controller is made for a 12 year old or something, it ain't normal
It's good to see a new recreation of the original controller.
but it has internal battery and not the removable battery pack and the rechargeable cell port, my cells beat even the best internal batteries out there and i can fast reload on the fly gears of war style
edit: also use new ones 2 or 1 year later instead of opening up the controller to replace it's stupid degrading battery
to anyone disappointed that this is wired you can use a brook wingman and a wireless receiver to use any xbox 360 controller you already own
Does it work with this new controller too?
Now the only thing left in my gaming bucket list is a dualshock 3 controller for the ps5
Xbox 360 controllers are the best built controllers ever. Every controller I have used always deteriorates whether it be sticks themselves or stick drift. My 2008 xbox 360 controllers are still going strong to this day.
I wish it had that transforming d-pad the other controllers had but this still looks good
YOU GET WHAT YOU FUCKING GET
I preordered it! In the past 22 days from June 6th, and I'm so excited! Can't wait to get mine in 11 days.
Got mine yesterday in black. No complaints besides the thumb stick rubber not being super grippy. I’m sure that will be better with some more playtime
This is perfect for docked Steam Deck, 360/PS3 era games run no problem on the Deck and this could be a great way to revisit those games from that era with this controller. Also it would be great for Xenia.
As a Steam Deck Owner.
I can see rolling up with two of these and playing Bo3 Zombies or Emulated Xbox360 Split Screen.
I'm thinking the same thing.
@@TheBuster0926 it's going to be crazy when Xenia gets ported to Linux
Have you actually had success emulating PS3 with full performance, or do you just mean PC games released at the same time? It would be cool if you could play Soulcalibur IV (the last good SC game) with no lag. I've been using a real PS3 lately, but some of my friends are disappointed they can't use controllers they're more used to.
i still use a wired 360 controller all the time on pc, i love it.
Same here
Same. Wireless adaptor works great even though it forgets what driver to use every once in a while.
They are the only ones that work with the 2005 Star Wars Battlefront 2 port.
This is really cool. Most people I personally know seem to prefer the XBox One controller, but I always preferred the feel of the 360 controller.
Please Hyperkin, make it available in Europe
💯
I know mass production can't really make this happen, but I'd love to see a wireless version that goes even deeper with the details. No share button (I don't use it), less extruded dash button, BACK & ENTER buttons be colour accurate
I LOVED the 360 controller but it's really hard to find one on good condition. This is great!
Game Over stores in Houston have a great OEM 360 controller selection
That's sick. Hopefully they release a wireless version of this controller with some added heft. If they did that I would buy 5 of them
And rechargeable batteries.
They can't because the 2.4 ghz connection that they use for the official controller is proprietary unfortunately, meaning third party will never get to make a wireless controller
As someone who prefers wired controllers and need a new controller for my PC, this is looking very attractive
I’m definitely investing in the both the 360 and duke controllers . They have a nice carrying case as well . No way I’m not heading down memory lane playin those older games with these controllers lol 🤝🏾
Xbox 360 Controller is still my go to gamepad, my 360 died and was thrown out long ago after 3 fixes that worked for shorter periods each time but I kept the controllers and even found a spare someone else disposed of so I picked up the wireless 360 receiver for windows (one OG years ago and a 3rd party one for a recent gaming laptop purchase) and I use them for my PC gaming to this day.
You threw away a 360?
Still using the OEM X360 wireless controller on PC from time to time alongside Elite 2 controller. Xbox Wireless Adapter works pretty nicely on W11 after you figure out how to install drivers.
They look like all my old controllers i took apart and mashed together lol
🇧🇷 Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷
I agree with the menu buttons needing to match yhe controller, especially the white controller. Ot also would have been nice if the USB cable for the white controller was gray, like the original wired controller had.
Does it have analog triggers? Interested in seeing the range
I just got the white and grey one and there is alot of travel on the stick's, i think its like that because it was originally customized for the 360 so i tried it on Perfect Dark Zero on Rare collection and it felt as though i was playing a 360 again, however its not as fast as my pdp Xbox series s and x wired controller but a bit faster than wireless. My Maine gripe is the usb c socket don't have a stick out bit of plastic around it so the wire may get snapped off if not extra carfull 😮
Is it less noisy than the series x version and will it work gamepass cloud on tablet via usbc to usbc?
I remember owning a green transparent xbox 360 controller. I really miss it tbh
I love the original 360 controller, I use it on my PC only problem is my joysticks are so old they leave a flaky mess after playing for 2 hours 😂
Thank god some nerd at hyperkin said "You know what we need? A Duke and a 360 controller for modern consoles" i can agree because the duke brought back so many memories i forgot, and now im stoked for the 360 controller i cannot wait to get my hands on this thing.
This was the most comfortable console controller, changey mind
I bought the Duke and this controller for my Series X, and retro usb consoles for nostalgia purpose alone and the controller works well.
i still use my controller since 2007 with the wireless adapter still works, no issue.
i do love the idea of specifically having this controller for playing 360 titles or remasters of 360 titles to bring back the feeling. and the price point, in my eyes, is a very attractive thing for this controller only being 40-ish dollars is fantastic to me.
Thank God (and Hyperkin of course) that this exists. The 360 controller is, to me, the most comfortable and familiar controller, so to see this is amazing.
I would’ve preferred a light ring around the button, just have the whole ring on.
I think white is the iconic color so having the white controller have the black buttons is kind of wrong.
I would have had the green X crack in the Xbox logo glow green when it's plugged in to indicate that the controller is working.
The headphone socket looks like it's in the wrong spot being above the controller instead of below though that's the least of my concerns.
Lastly I hope that they make a "new transforming d-pad" controller. The sticks on that controller were also different.
Microsoft should have a system update so we can use them retro controllers
Could you replace the thumbsticks with xbox 360 rubber grips?
Any news when these are coming out officially? I pre-ordered mine at the beginning of may and it hasn't updated my order since the 8th. 😅
So do they have the same smooth plastic on the analog sticks underneath the rubber grips? Because those notches on the Xbone gamepads are f'n annoying, a lot harder to ignore after the grips wear down and even with them.
This thing should have come out a couple weeks ago. I just finally replaced my wired 360 controller. I used it til the rubber on the sticks deformed.
It's very easy to fix 90% of all issues on a 360 controller I buy broken ones to fix in my spare time and some how I'm now a 360 controller collector 😅, I buy job lots from eBay and repair them got a Halo 4 360 controller super cheap under £20 replaced the sticks as the rubber on them worn down cleaned the battery contacts up and replaced the battery pack cover and fully works was sold as spares and repairs and I use it far more than my Series controller 😂
Hey Kev, I recently purchased the 8bitDo ultimate based on your recommendation (I think it was last year..??). I LOVE the controller. Thanks for the recommendation, you’re awesome.
Edit: typo
Somethin I just thought of after posting that first comment: how does this stack up against that 8bitdo Ultimate? And is the Ultimate STILL your “go to” controller? Could we maybe see some head to head comparisons and ratings to find out which comes out on top?
360 was honestly my favorite controller was using that for such a long time with my PC. THAT and the Dualshock 3's/Sixasis.
Why cant I plug a bluetooth usb into my xbox 360 for the new wireless xbox one controllers?
Is it compatible with OEM membranes/springs?
One of my biggest complaints with modern controllers is the lack of stiffness in the sticks and triggers. I want them to push back against me like the OEM controllers
The lights around the logo are one of the best parts imo it's a shame they didn't replicate that
I got the black controller ... fell in love and and bought the other colours. And I'm going to pre order the cosmic night and twilight galaxy versions. Not only are they priced fairly they are based on the best controller design ever created. 360 controller is king and always will be in my eyes 💚
they could of used the lights to show what power the Controller is at, 1 is full, 2 3/4, 3 /2/4, 4 1/4, Low Battery is low battery, Pairing it's charging, all lights on, it's full and plugged in, this could be a fun little Easter egg
I know there's Blinks but I feel that could be distracting for it's full and plugged in
I got a hiperkin for PS2 and the analog is not full 360 there are masive deadzones... How are the analogs of the new ones?
Oh, the 360 controller. My first, and only, controller to have stick drift. Will never forget.
Ohhh yeah i got a 360 controller with a loose ass thumbstick 😂
But the duke had seripus build issues. Does this one have good build quality inside
Definitely plan on getting this, the 360 controller is a staple of my childhood. Not having the green lights is definitely a big drawback though, to me that was a key feature of the controller. Otherwise, it's very nice, though I do wish Xbox just updated their firmware to support classic controllers, like how Nintendo supports classic GameCube controllers on the Switch with an adapter
Hi, is it plug and play like Xbox one controller, or you need to install additional software?
Plug n play
@@loitersquadX Thanks
@@vovazagach1781 I just bought it so if u have any questions just let me know I can post videos
Oh my god. The Xbox 360 controller is my favourite to this day. It's just so comfortable and fits perfect in my hands. I still use an old wired Xbox 360 controller when using a controller on my PC. The left analog stick has strated to drift a little. And I dropped it on the floor a few years ago so the RT button has gotten overly sensistive and sometimes scroll trough menues by itself if I just strafe the button with my finger. I have considered buying a new brand new and sealed Xbox 360 controller as the cheap copies you find online aren't very good. but the Official controllers are quite expensive. This is great news!
If this was wireless, I’d get it instantly for having all the modern improvements but that wire is a deal breaker frankly.
@KevinKenson Does it come with a gyroscope built in it?
I think what they should do is make a wireless version and have the player indicator lights on it that indicates battery percentage
i’m very surprised xbox just doesn’t let you use a 360 controller on the new consoles to begin with (at least wired) seems like something they’d do nowadays
I think the black would look good as well if they did the xbox 360 elite black controller with the grey sticks and bumpers and d pad
I remember the first time I used an Xbox 360 controller and I thought that it was the first time that I have ever used a controller that might be up there as one of the best controllers ever made. Since then other controllers have obviously grabbed my attention, most notably the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. I have used the Xbox 360 controller on PC for such a long time and eventually upgraded to an Xbox One S controller and then an Xbox Series controller. Even though overall the One S and Series controllers felt better than the 360 controller, I really like the overall shape and size of the 360 controller better. Even though I was more of a PS3 type of person during the 7th gen of consoles, my brother did have an Xbox 360 and I did have a 360 controller that I used on PC. I just remember playing so much Halo Reach with my best friend, playing so much Halo 4 and NBA 2K12 with my brothers, and playing so many emulators on my laptop. I still haven't decided if $50 is a good price for this controller or if it's too spendy just for a chance to relive a big part of my childhood and to get a chance at playing with nostalgia. I guess it's up to the individual person to decide if the want to spend this amount of money on a cool idea for a third-party Xbox/PC controller.
I’d love this just wish for wireless with these
Exactly me too!!
This. The triggers felt like that of a pistol on 360.
On every other gamepad, it doesn't feel like a pistol.
loved the 360 controller, but the battery part on the back was very uncomfortable after a while.
I have mine pre-ordered. The wire doesn't kill me nor do I care. My PC and Xbox are on an L shaped desk, there's no wire drag or interference with anything ontop of my desk. Not to mention the OG 360 remote was the only Xbox remote that properly fit my big ass hands. I bought a pro remote that just barely fits my hands and the tips my thumbs. The 360 did it all great
I all ready got pre order white xenon controller but it takes so long to get here
Brilliant review
happy to see these retooled.
I hope they do a wireless version because this is sick
Bros got the Xbox 720 controller
I had been using my original wired 360 controller from launch with my pc. Damn thing only stopped working last month. Never had a single issue with it, brilliant design.
I bet it is an easy fix. Would be worth a shot trying to repair it.
I kept buying 360 controllers from my visits to local Goodwills. I have like 10 on hand lol. Now I use them with the microsoft adapter on my HTPC in my living room. Great controllers, apart from them randomly disconnecting. Those battery packs are too sensitive after years of use.
Randomly disconnecting from PC is a common issue with the wireless receiver for PC, they are fine on Xbox.
Would this controller work on a chromebook?
I'm thinking about buying one that is similar to this one.
The best controller as return let's go!!
360 shell, with the triggers and bumpers (and the more modern rumble pack) from a One/Series, competent back buttons, and wireless with a dedicated battery like what everyone but Microsoft does, it'd be a fairly decent controller; and throw in non-Xinput things like gyro, of course it wouldn't be supported on Xbox or PC natively on most modern games, but through Steam Input gyro works fine. The 360 shell is just fairly comfortable, besides the triggers being thin, and the bumpers not being bumpable from below with a trigger resting position for your fingers, and there's just something about it aesthetically with the forehead cutout and the tall shoulders from the top-down view that's pretty appealing.
That’s an instant buy for me on release. The 360 controller is my all time favorite controller so idk if it isn’t wireless I just want to play with this controller again for all my games on the series X
Its about time they showed some avowed and fable
wed love to see a "premium/elite/pro" version for the duke og controller
Is there will be a wireless version ?
I still use my Xbox 360 wireless controllers on Xbox Series using a brook and xbox adapter. The buttons have way more travel compared to the new controllers.
Does it feel weird to not have the battery pack?
I remember reading about this that they were going to bring this controller back and completely forgot about it I’ll definitely be picking it up I have the duke remaster one wish they could’ve made them wireless but oh well
As long as these don't develop lousy stick drift in a week, it's a big W for me!
I havent touched an OEM 360 controller in about 8 years so this thing feels close enough that it doesnt feel off to me
When i first used the xbox one controller the height of the bumpers threw me off and ive gotten used to it but i lowley wanna get this and go back to the old way but when ive tried a 360 controller again its been so weird lol
Just preordered mine. I can’t wait!
You guys know if Xbox one or ps4 kontrolfreeks would fit the thumbsticks or are they the exact same profile as the original?
Really wanted this, tried to pre order but it apparently can't be shipped to Canada right now, hope that changes soon!
So did they add the stick tension that original 360 controllers have or is still extremely loose like the current xbox controllers
Would be interesting to see the inside.
nice that its wired tho, gives me the 6th gen console days in 7th gen factors bruh
I wonder if the difference in plastic feel is due to the type of plastic used? Older tech has the robust dino based plastics opposed to modern plant based plastics. I’m not an expert so that’s a very loose overview but something I’ve observed over time (you see this with Lego pieces too).
one of my fav controllers
I’ve been so hyped for this ever since they first announced it, I LOVE my Hyperkin Duke and it’s been my go to controller now for 2 years running. I don’t even mind the fact they’re wired, I hate using batteries and less input lag. Bring on the xenon 😄
