  • This was one of my favourite camps this summer. A few days and two nights exploring, camping and fishing around my local area. Caught some nice fish for dinner including some success on grayling with the fly rod.
    I generally prefer winter camping as the challenges with driving, conditions and environment are really enjoyable. But the fishing over summer cannot be beaten so its good to get some fishing in before the deep freeze comes.
    Thanks for watching and for all your support.
    Just as a side note, I didn't out music to the driving sequence on this one. When using music I have to listen to hundreds of tracks and it takes several hours to find a song. et me know what you think of the no music on the driving. I personally like it more because its more real.

    Hi Mike, great to see you fly fishing. You may want to try casting from the elbow rather than the wrist, it'll tighten those loops & you'll get less tangles. I was always advised to slip the rod butt into your sleeve to stop the wrist "breaking". Anyway tight lines & happy travels.

    Hey man! You changed, a lot! I’ve been watching you since your first UA-cam videos! This new sense of humor I actually like, is probably something that doesn’t go along with people on UA-cam often 😂 anyways, I just got mine roof top tent! Wild Land Normandy 120. Pretty exited on that. As always, thanks for the inspiration Mike. I just don’t know how can you go camping with the kid. I have a son, same age (3,5). He can go up and down to the tent 100x times before we even think of setting a camp. I hope he can get used to it more as he gets older. Cheers buddy!!!

      Hey, thanks for tuning in! I've always had this sense of humour, I just have more adult audience now that seems to appreciate it. Congratulations on the new tent, they are fantastic and I don't think you will be disappointed. I don't camp alone with Max yet, we all go as a family because its difficult to manage a 3.5 year old in such an environment, especially with a ladder.
      I'm sure he will get use to it, maybe initial excitement of something new but i'm sure it will all become more normal. Thanks for watching!

    aaa, when i saw you cook the Greyling (Harr) the right way and not breaded as the Pearch i smiled :). Also using flour and pepper for breading is quite oldschool i Norway and Sweden so it works great imo. Personally i stuff the Greylings or Trouts with juniper and juniper berries if avaliable or even Crowberries. Makes for a good wilderness taste

    A excellent video Mike 🤘🏻 I have eaten the lady of the lake once and never again as where I'm from there very very rare but o my days super tasty ! Me and the Mrs were out fishing and we gilled it and when we went to put it back in it went belly up I ran into the river with my net and retrieved it and we had a delicious supper 👍🏻 keep up the great videos and glad you and your family are doing well after your bad times you've had ! Hi, Mike! Relaxing video, as usual :))
    From my experience, you will have better hook up on perch if you use smaller shad, 4-5 cm. They will also taste better if you salt them a couple of hours before cooking.
    Have you ever considered a foldable fire pit? It has it's advantages.
    All the best to you and your loved ones!

    Nice work. Been out at ours twice this summer (further up the 365 near Skellefealven). Back home now and really missing it already. Found a top way to eat Pike this summer .... which makes use of the fact that filleting can often leave you with lots of small bits.... zip lock bag with flour, salt and pepper, chilli and whatever else you like. Chuck em in. Shake about. Cast iron pan with a cm or two of rapeseed oil, on the fire... chuck in the breaded pike bits. And the great bit ... dip your fried and seasoned pike bits in Aiolli. Delicious. Went down a storm even with Pike naysayers. Love that fly rod .... bargain. I can't advise much on fly fishing as I am as bad as you.

    • @WorkshoptoWilderness
      @WorkshoptoWilderness  11 місяців тому

      Sounds like a lovely way to cook a pike. I normally eat them using that 5 fillet method although I haven't eaten any this summer. I took a photo of your comment so I can remember the method and I will try it out. Sounds pretty good!
      Sounds like you had a nice trip, where are you guys based?

    • @gobtv9459
      @gobtv9459 11 місяців тому

      @@WorkshoptoWilderness Our place is in Järvträsk (near Glommersträsk), so a couple of hours North of you. I use pretty much the 5 fillet method too, but with smaller pike this can leave lots of smaller bits if, like me, you don't like waste.. I just cut up the 5 fillets and add the smaller bits to the flour mix. Honestly, there was a bun fight for the crispy bits.

    Hi Mike thanks for sharing your adventures. Great channel. I know you’re a fly fishing beginner but try to flex your wrist less when casting. Cast more with your arm as an extension to the rod with your wrist locked and you’ll find it easier and have more control.

      When I hike and backpack I unclip the stove and carry it in the pack. Its a nice versatile system but the stove is quite pricy initially. It's called an msr whisperlite universal.
