  • April 3, 2021: The simple act of leveling your transducer can greatly improve image quality on your fish finder.
Since every boat sits differently on the water, properly leveling a transducer can only be accomplished with the boat afloat. In this video I will show you an extremely easy method of leveling a fish finder transducer. A level transducer is essential for getting the best quality images out of your fish finder regardless of brand.

That penny trick is pretty awesome! I'll be doing that on my little boat real soon. How and where are you mounting the head unit?

Step 15 scribe the transducer pivot point with a knife so you have a reference if it gets bumped. And it will😏

Honest question. Yes, I agree doing this leveling trick would be best in a perfect world, if you always fished in same conditions, but wouldn't the level of the boat always change based off how many people you have with you fishing anyway? Meaning, so even if you have it perfectly level the first time, the next time you go out you may have 3 grown adults and weighing the boat down differently to where it's not level anyway? Am I thinking wrongly? I think the leveling is great if you do level with the people in boat who will always be fishing with you, but otherwise... does it matter?

You're correct. A change in weight distribution will affect how the boat sits. But, unless it is a major weight right at the transom, the angle isn't going to change that drastically.
Leveling the transducer using this method can mean the difference between fish showing up as arches on your sonar and them showing up as blobs. Your side and down imaging clarity will be better as well.

@@TheWeekendAngler thanks for the reply. I have always tried to get the best images but never done the penny trick. May try now as I just upgraded boats and am trying to switch my transducer to the new boat. Just have to decide whether to mount on the lower step hull or the back transom. Lower step hull would sit deeper and possibly have better reading being away from motor and would keep reading while at speed... So I am thinking 🤔... it's a 19ft fish and ski with a 150hp optimax on back. Deep v with step hull at back.
