So, after seeing this video and fixing my transducer following these instructions my pontoon now reads at full speed. I have a Lowrance Hook5. I will mention your transducer should be mounted on the driver's side of the pontoon. Problem cured. Thank you
Thank you. Although my Pond Prowler is only troller motor powered it's hull is pontoon design. I'm watching a lot of videos trying to not remain too ignorant about getting my first fish finder put on right. Your video helped me.
Glad i could help. Good luck with the pond prowler. Let me know if you have any more questions. I have several more videos in the works, but I've been away at work so haven't had much time at home to finish them up.
@@freshwaterfiend6268 I also have pond prowler and was wandering which side on the back of the pontoon should i place the tranducer, right side or left side or does it matter?? I also running a suzuki 2.5 out board motor. any advice would be helpful!!! thanks
I will be installing a Helix 7 G3 on my 20' Sun Tracker fishing barge. Your video gives me the confidence to tackle the job. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
I finally installed the transducer on my 2021 20' dlx fishing barge today. I also routed the cable up to the floor under the helm, but have not gone through the floor with it yet. I mounted the transducer exactly as you described here, so I am very confident it will work just right. Thanks again for your help.@@freshwaterfiend6268
Man I been going with mine not reading at speed for years, just would slow down when I know I’m gonna fish the area and then I would get a good read lol, but I will try it, thanks 🙏
Thanks for the transducer tip. I have had the same trouble with with my pontoon boat. Our lake has a very hilly bottom and it drives me nuts to have to run at 9 miles an hour or less to get a reliable reading.
Thank you so much for the tip. I will try your suggestion since I have the same exact problem. The depth finder on my 22 ft pontoon quits reading at 11 mph. I have a 2017 lowrance hook 4 fish/ depth finder. I will get back to you by next boating season if it solves the problem. My boat stays in the water all season and won’t go back in until next spring. I will make the adjustments then. Thanks again. Dennis Selbyville Delaware.
I run a Lowrance triple shot unit on a stepped hull transom 1991 Javelin 396FS at 65mph and get perfect readings. Just like you said, the transducer has to be slightly lower than the bottom of the hull so it gets solid water, no air or bubbles.
Glad to hear this. I just installed a Lowrance triple shot on my pontoon boat, and lose readings at speed. Going to give this guys instructions a try and see if I can get it dialed in.
Great video and great video for the 7in Garmin install on a suntracker. Did the 20ft transducer cable make it to the console area or did you get the extension?
I just bought a Helix 7 to attach to my pontoon boat. My pontoon sits in a boat lift and the cradle that the logs rests on sticks out about a foot behind the logs. A transducer can only mount flush with my logs, not hang down below or the transducer hits the bunk when I drive back on. I haven't installed it yet, Will it work flush along the bottom of my toon?
Nice review. I am waiting for my 2022 fish’s barge to arrive and am researching fishing setups for it. Are you able to use side imaging with the transducer mounted on the pontoon, or does the motor interfere?
You need to drop it down another half an inch. You are measuring incorrectly. The conical part of the transducer should be below the boat bottom, not just the tip like you have. And get a metal mount, that plastic is not good for speed as it bends with force.
I've since swapped to metal after my sons friend used the transducer as a step to get into the boat while it was trailered 🤷🏻♂️. But i had it lower ay one point and it was throwing up a rooster tail that would spray the motor the entire time you were running. I've checked the readings a few times and so far readings seem to be accurate.
Sorry for the delay. I had planned to do a video showing that way, but have been slammed at work. Haven't been able to make any videos related to fishing or boats lately. If you still need help is be more than happy to walk you through it and may make a short video next time I'm home.
Question I have the same transducer, have you thought about mounting it directly to the bottom of one of your pontoons directly under captains seat? Either using an extreme double stick tape, or scuffing up the aluminum and using JB weld.
No mainly because we go to a few sandbars that I've actually drug bottom a few times. Never been stuck but definitely would ruin anything on pontoons. Plus I trailer mine everytime so I doubt it would last long.
Well I've hit several so far, including an 8ft 4x4 with SS grab rail still attached that came loose from a dock along the river. So far so good but anything with the right situation can be damaged. On a pontoon a Thru-Hull isn't an option. So to get the best experience out of my equipment this is the option that works for me. If it doesn't work for you, then by all means go a different route. Thanks for the view and the comment non the less. Just trying to help other Coullions like me. 😎

First time someone actually said how the adjustment on the transducer should be. Time to adjust👍
Sorry for delay in response, but glad i could help.

Great Tip Thanks, I am installing a new Garmin Ultra 106sv for the first time and this helps a bunch!!
Nice job on the video. First time toon owner here, and defiantly needed this advice to get my transducer setup on my new toon.
Thanks for sharing. I'm installing a hook triple transducer on my pontoon. Great video.

I have a video on that too. It's all super easy, and I hate sending my stuff to a shop.

Thanks, I will try this. You have helped a lot!
Great video. Will help with my install.
Man I been going with mine not reading at speed for years, just would slow down when I know I’m gonna fish the area and then I would get a good read lol, but I will try it, thanks 🙏
I was doing the same thing. Hope it helped. 👍🏻
Very helpful, Thanks!

Glad it helped. Our rivers go from 2'-20- in some places so I used to feel that pain.
Thank you I’m going to try this

did it work

This one helped alot, thanks
Glad I can help. Hope to do more. If you ever need to know anything let me know.
Thanks for the help

So far it hasn't interfered unless I'm trying to side scan at higher speeds (+ 5-7 mph). But that's with most side scan units.
So far so good. Just have to scan at low speeds (below 5-7mph) but im sure thats the case for most units.
Nice bro...👍

I don't understand how to use a torpedo level and quarters. I wish you would have shown that technique. I don't have one of those fancy gauges.

Where does the maker of this video usually run his boat, I.e. ocean, costal bays, rivers, lakes or ponds???
Thanks.
Rivers, costal bays, and lakes.
what happen if all submerge to the bottom of the hull… i mean your screw at the transom is at the lowest point of your transom
Sorry for the delay, but when i tried mine lower than this it kicked up a huge rooster tail while i was running at WOT.
What kind of depth finder do you have and does the transducer brand make a difference
Sorry for the delay, but I've had both Lowerance, and now Garmin and both transducers had to mounted like this. Hope it helps
What transom saver are you using, are you happy with it?
Not using one currently but will be installing one on my next electronic upgrade

Great until you hit a piece of drift wood and it ruins your transducer

why talk so much extra? you could easily make this a 1- 2 minute video. why try so hard to waste peoples time?
