Dr Marie Claire is definitely a hero to all of us women including us that didn’t get this information until the last year. I have to also thank her husband for telling her she was smart & would figure this out for herself & she did🙏🙏🙏
OMG, this was fabulous and I hope you do this again real soon Katie with Dr. Mary Claire. I am 57 years old and this was such an educational eye-opener!!! My mind is truly blown! we need so much more education on menopause and what it does to a woman’s body. I’m shocked to even hear that women weren’t even included in clinical trials. What the heck!
Mary Claire is my hero!! The community she has built is so important to all women!! Thank you Katie for adding her to your community. I felt like ending my life during menopause. I first thought it was the isolation from Covid but I just got worse as Covid restrictions subsided. I gained 30 lbs in a few months, could barely walk because my joints hurt so bad. I had no desire to do anything! I had recurrent UTIs, hot flashes memory loss and episodes of anger for no reason. I didn’t recognize myself. Mary Claire helped me realize I wasn’t crazy or alone. I found an amazing physician and nurse practitioner who changed my life. I am on HRT and changed my diet to the Galveston diet. I lost 34 lbs so far ( my husband lost 20) and most of my symptoms have resolved. I feel much younger and no longer have those episodes of depression/anger. I have also educated my husband ( who is an oncologist ) to discuss symptoms with his patients and educate himself. He has started sending patients to my physician. We as women need to advocate for each other to get every woman access to menopause care. I am shocked how many women are suffering in silence when I talk about my experience because they think they have no options. Thanks to both of you for bringing menopause to the forefront 😘❤️
Thank you for educating your oncologist husband. Doctors are not educated about menopause in med school so most oncologists will induce instantaneous menopause when they give chemotherapy. They have NO clue how severe the symptoms can be , it is much worse than a natural slower menopause.
What about all us women past 65 that never took HRT and could benefit from HRT even now? Wouldn't just a little help us with mood, sleep, energy? The medical community has forgotten us again. We are living longer now are we just suppose to shrivel up and slowly die with no quality of life for the next 20 years........ Very sad.
Katie, As always, I appreciate your humility, for example, saying that you didn't understand a word that Mary Claire said, in one instance. This makes you so relatable. Thank you, Katie!
You two together are a force!! Go, ladies! Hopefully legislation passes for insurance to pay for MRIs for women with dense breast tissue. Completely agree about the lack of discussion with breast oncologists about how menopause is managed. 💞
Hello Katie! We love you and Dr. Mary Claire, but I hope you listen to the people in your comment section that are giving you advice to stop interrupting your guests because we can’t hear the answer if both of you are talking at the same time……and it would also be helpful if next time Dr. Haver talks a little slower so that listeners can understand her helpful information. Thanks Katie!
Very informative discussion. Looking forward to you having Dr. Claire on again. I would love to know more about any connection with dry eyes and menopause. Thank you Katie 🙂
So love the information you give us. I went in and asked for HRT and got a Climara Pro path. Used it for 9 months and felt great. Had to change insurance, and now it's not covered even with the Doctors approving it. Don't know what to do now.
I had to hunt down an OBGYN who knew more than I did about HRT. When she was able to quote risk factors and such off the top of her head I was so happy to have finally found a knowledgeable doctor. Just curious though. She reduced my estradiol patch from 1.0 to 0.7 due to break through bleeding. She also upped my progesterone for a few weeks. The bleeding stopped but I sometimes still don’t feel super great. I am wondering how do you decide what percentage dose is right. I tried asking my doctor about it but I don’t think I really communicated well because I am still confused. I am wondering if I would feel much more like myself again on the higher dose. I feel loads better than i did before taking any HRT but still not the former me. Is the me i used to know basically gone and this is the new “managed” me?
Just finished today, the book "Sandwich" by Catherine Newman. Famously included many menopausal issues. Liked how it was woven into the narrative. Nice little "listen" to (audiobook), and very pleasurable. Nice treatment of menopause.
I m 52 with Neuralgia , but have acid reflux , tinnitus , inflammation causing burning in my waist and scalp sore gums and dental issues, interrupted sleep, brain fog, and night sweats. Running to various doctors and specialist Neurologist . Endondontist and Gastrointerologist . I m trying to get more protein , D3, magnesium, fibre, B vitamins and turmeric.
Yes you really got shafted. With that study and bad information. Just keep researching and the find a good practitioner if possible. Homepathy also helps too. Good food and supplements.
I love me some Katie Couric but my god this video was a clusterf***!!!. The doctor talked SO fast, I didn't catch most of what she said, and Katie interrupted her numerous times to where they were talking over each other so you couldn't hear what either one of them were saying. Katie, I think you should redo this video and correct those two items. Just my thoughts. But when you do have the doctor back next time, please ask her to slow down on her talking and please don't interrupt her so that only one of you are talking at a time. Thanks!
omg thank goodness it wasn't just me. I've replayed the section recommending protein and fiber 5 times and was about to slow it down to try again. I'm wondering if she switched them at some point.... @Katie Couric - please confirm what the equations and recommendations are for fiber and protein and put it in the description as well as a pinned comment! I know you were both just really passionate and urgent about spreading this info, but it is so unclear for those of us who need bullet points. 😅
I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia because of my body aches and fatigue and with Major Depression because of my depression symptoms. I have been to the OB and hormonal tests came back with Low estrogen. I'm almost 50 . Besides this misdiagnosis. Are there any other disorders like MS misdiagnosed because of menopause? Thank you for your answer. My Mom was recently diagnosed with MS and is almost 70.
Can you please tell us the name of the serum that Dr. Haver mentioned? She said it so fast I couldn't make it out. I want to talk to my OB / GYN about it. Thank you!
I had a complete hysterectomy at 34 due to major endometriosis. The first thing I noticed was a ringing in my ears! Never had it before the surgery. Took Premarin for years, but think I should have continued it. I’m 71 now.
I’m 63 with horrible hot flashes. My sleep is miserable with the hot flashes. I do have heart disease so no one wants to help me with this problem. The cardiovascular risks out weighed my quality of life. I feel so sad and hopeless to get any relief.
I saw a naturopath MD who told me to use progesterone cream made from wild yams. It essentially stopped my hot flashes. I’m curious what your Drs would say about it.
I was 65 and symptomatic. No doc would give me anything either. I ended up getting pellets. Estrogen and testosterone. I take a progesterone at night. Use estradiol creme 2x week. Never felt better. Labs are beautiful.
Dosage important for disease prevention It takes many years for breast cancer cells to grow is my understanding - estrogen can cause some cancers to grow, but does not cause cancer Try Omegas for joint pain This was very informative, thank you!

Can we get info on combination patch of estrogen and progesterone? Taking progesterone by pills has an important side effect on my gastro digestion. Can take the full dose and was wondering if a combi patch is just as effective
I have to speak against hormone therapy, just pay attention if/when you start it. My mental health (which I never had an issue with) became a problem. I would break down crying then felt rage at things I would never have in the past. It was AWFUL!! worse than menopause and all of its symptoms. I don't think its right for every women and I feel like now Doctors are going the other way trying to convince women that you have to in order to live a long healty life.
Hi- doctors do tend assume that allwomen are the same so you need to watch them. There are other tissues that can produce some estrogen after the ovaries shut down ( like the adrenal glands). Ok course i am speculating but you may be one of the minority of women who do well after menopause without hormones, your symptoms suggest that whatever hormones they gave you were for you an overdose.
That was me before Homepathy but I'm still affected at times. I never was the BHRT/HRT. Its all how you use it in my opinion and the supplements you are on as well and diet. The awful birth control pills are worse with the Progestins not Progesterone.
My oncologist and endrocolgist always are at odds on the amount of Vitamin D I should take. 😊 I listen to my oncologist with taking the vitamin D but the encrodo tests for the Vitamin D level. They are more you get it from the sun
I use estriol cream topically in my genital area I'm 65, no ovaries, tubes, I do have a uterus. Using a progesterine cream one time weekly to counter estrogen dominance. Should I stop the progesterine?
It destroys families and marriages. Its the same with children been sick or damaged by meds as babies. It wears everyone down. Huge emotional and financial cost.
Great convo but Katie, you need to stop interrupting. It's difficult to listen to! And you kept saying, this isn't about me, but then would start talking about yourself.
Please call her Dr. Haver, most men medical doctors in the media all use their titles. This is only fair. Good info in this episode but interviewer made it more about her issues.

With all due respect, I find it hard to believe that Katie Couric is truly unaware of the things she claims to be ignorant of. It's fine to ask questions, but given her profession and life experiences, she has likely had access to the best medical and health advice. It's okay to ask the questions, Katie, even if you already know the answers. You don’t need to pretend to be uninformed. Dr. Haver mentioned it's important not to overdose on turmeric supplement for pain relief. What is the maximum dose per day?
In your follow up interview, I would love to ask her thoughts on fasting for autophagy, anti-inflammitory processes and overall well being as we age.

LDN for pain and inflammation. Also has anti cancer properties. I would like to see this medication discussed more often
