I just walked out of Home Depot with this set. $149 Black Friday. While I was standing in line at the register I found your video. And between your product review and the number of positive comments here, I knew it was a good decision. Thanks to all.
Just got this today, purchased it $99 off for a whopping $109 sale. I’ve never owned husky tools before but for $100 I feel like this is a great value. I believe the sale is still on. I’m sure I’ll be trying out the lifetime warantee on a t45 torx bit eventually, I have never not broken one 🤷🏻♂️ so if that lasts I’ll be thrilled
It is awesome that this set features a 1/4" to 3/8" socket adapter. Those are almost never included in these sets. I have had to buy them separately and toss them into my travel kits. Of course, the problem you have with most of these tool sets that come in blow-molded cases is that there's no room for extras, so I also travel with a small tool bag into which I put the stuff not already found in the factory set. It is so cool that this set has a place to put extensions, etc, in that middle drawer.
I have had good luck with the few Husky sockets I own. good bang for your buck. My only wish is that there were more 6 pt sizes. thanks for taking the time to review.
HD has this set for $179+ tax right now. My Craftsman tools are 40 years old with some of the needed sizes missing. I'm seriously considering this tool set.
Don’t mean to be critical, it’s SAE not English. These are pretty good tools. I have a set that I used to work on my Backhoe and they hold up fine but I don’t use them every day.
They can be I suppose, I have never had a problem inherent to the snap rings. I have never really messed with the snap-ons or other expensive tools. I enjoy being cheap! I'm more likely to lose a ratchet than wear it out. Thanks for commenting!
I've had mine for over two years. I use it all the time, and recently bought the smaller 270 piece kit to keep in my truck. These are good hand tools, with a lifetime warranty. When my dad saw the 290 set, he said it reminded him of the old craftsman sets. This is not a replacement for a full on roller cart, but can keep you going in a tight spot.
What about this set going in my roller cart? i am trying find a set that wont break the bank, should I just go with just a little more piece set like the 432 for $520
@@zachst0ree husky sells them in foam trays on their website! I'd check those out. I really like these tools for low to mid level use. Even if used heavily and they broke, lifetime warranty baby
I don't know probably missing something like 20 pieces. JK, fewer wrenches, maybe skit a few sockets, or include more driver bits on the 290. You would have to check home depots website.
Great video. My friend has this set but the drawers are in red and the sockets on the first drawer (from top) interfere with the drawer’s housing when he tries to close that drawer (I think so small sockets are too tall for that drawer. Also box latches do jot click strongly when closing them. Are these issues normal? Thank you.
It depends on the particular set, generally Dewalt is a step up over Husky in my opinion but their product lines don't overlap all that often. This is a decent little tool kit!
Remember the good metal boxes, I propose a hybrid with blow molded inserts to organize your tools in a metal case with metal latches and a metal handle.
The box is the not the best, but the tools have been serving me well on several projects. I have had to play 100 socket pickup a few times since posting this video because of the poor box design.
That was a nice review. This is not a set I would buy, even just as a portable set. It is too heavy on the SAE sizes and the metric selection is poor, even trying to hit the most common ones. This is not suited for newer cars, although the bits on the top, especially the torx, are nice. The cars I typically work on are year 2000+, and I rarely ever reach for SAE sizes. I most often use SAE sizes on performance parts on my Camaro, or on tools like pullers.... which is a bit out of scope for a set like this. Another item which most sets overlook are lug nut sockets.
I have a dedicated sae set when I go out on vending machine repairs because they are the opposite of cars: made in USA and all sae hardware. So it's a waste of weight and space to pack the metric. I wish they made dedicated sets for a reasonable price.
@@HerbOMatic I think this style is ok for a homeowners type of set, but for a mechanics set, I think the manufacturers are missing the boat. Would be neat to have a universal, SAE and metric option.
I just have a problem with the latches being made of plastic. Just seems like the 1st thing that will break and all my tools will go everywhere crashing down to the ground when I am carrying it around. Not sure if that is a very good idea on Husky’s part putting that in.
good review, I'm looking at this set, like you, I'm not big on the use of plastic latches. So I'm thinking, maybe employ a 1" wide ratchet or lashing strap when carrying the set from place to place? this would solve the risk of everything spilling out if one of the plastic bits gives up the ghost...
@@HerbOMatic I believe it's a pattern every year. This set is 150$ during Black Friday. & there's also a 270 piece set for 100$ While during Father's day, it's a 230 piece 99$ set.

Old school mechanic here, I purchased the husky 290pc set to see what the hype is about. Got to say quite disappointed. The only good thing was that I got it on sale for $129.99. When I did an overview of the wrenches & sockets. Was very disappointed, who ever decided to to put 12pt & 6pt in the mix, did it entirely wrong. The metric & SAE set up with sockets of 12pt & 6pt were wrong. So what I did was gutted the whole sockets & wrenches from the tool box and restart fresh. For the Metric I went with 12pt, & for the SAE I went with 6pt. For wrenches I went with Gearwrench Metric 12pt ratcheting wrenches, and Olsa 6pt SAE ratcheting wrenches which by the way fit perfectly in the molded slots. For Metric sockets deep & shallow I went with Gearwrench in 1/2, 3/8, & 1/4. And for the SAE I went with Tekton 6pt sockets deep & shallow in 1/2, 3/8, & 1/4. Which both brand name sockets fit perfectly in the molded slots. For my drive ratchets, I went with Tekton 90th 1/2in & 3/8in release button drive ratchets. And for my 1/4in drive ratchet I went with Gearwrench 120xp.which also fit well in the molded slots. As far as the long compartment were the allen bits are stored, I removed those and went with Gearwrench 20pc extension set & the Husky 100th 3/8 locking flex head drive ratchet. Which fit perfectly in that compartment space. Overall best tool organization set up for me, but hay that's just my opinion. But overall cool review.

they need to make one of these for the rolling tool box set
They have but you have to order them to store
Its really disappointing that every time you look at products now everything is being made of bloody plastic its horrible .
The plastic stuff can be ok if they beefed it up where it needed it at hinges, and latches but often times this is where it fails.

Even though packaged that way this clearly is not meant to be portable. Nice compact set of tools that will be great as a bench top stationary set.
Blind leading the Blind in a review? They are called TORX and SAE.
You might as well call millimeter "M M"
Red, are you seriously criticizing synonyms? Don't be petty, go build something and post it.
They are NOT "star diver bits" They are TorX bits. You should KNOW that.
Scott: synonyms exist, relax
Anyone know how to take the top chest part off without breaking the box?
I think it unbolts.....?
Would be nice if you got rid of the filler bits and just included a few more sockets
I wrap a bungee cord through the handle around the box to keep the drawers in that's the best way to keep them in.
