- How to put up and take down a dome hide: In this tutorial I show how I set up my pop-up dome hide for wildlife photography - and take it down again. If you are thinking of buying this type of hide then hopefully this video will help. Whilst this is purely for photography, it still applies to hunting and shooting (not that I'm into that..). These kind of hides are similar to the Amercian Doghouse Blinds. Watch to the end for Outtakes! Please like or share the video. Great video. Very useful. Nice catch with the camera at the end :-)
Thank you Elaine. Yes, just managed to catch it as it fell over. Never easy shooting it all yourself.! Glad you found it useful.
Very clear! I just bought one of these. Thank you
This video saved me hours of frustration getting my hide down. I tried following the video on the hide I purchased and couldn't get it to collapse and fold easily. Your method is easy and simple to remember in the field. Thanks Paul and keep posting the excellent videos.
Having watched a number of videos and struggling to do it for hours, this is easily the best method for me. Many thanks.
Brilliant. Cheers Martyn.!
THANK YOU !!!!!
Very informative Thank you so much could not figure out how to fold it up. Have a great night
I know this an old video but your still helping out frustrated hide purchasers!!!👍
Excellent vid. 👍
Great video and thanks for sharing your technique with the rest of us. Worked first time with me . Top bloke 👍
Glad it helped.
Thx a lot Pal Great video !!
Very useful, spent hours trying to follow instructions supplied with Pop Up Bird Hide which were useless, followed this video and within minutes hide was dismantled and put away in it's bag. Thank you
Great. Glad it helped!
I have the exact same hide. When I was shopping for one I was disgusted at how much more expensive the "proper" photography hides were compared to the hunting blinds. As far as i can tell they are basically the same, except the photography ones have some openings lower down.
They are expensive, yes. The thing is, the ones from Wildlife Watching Supplies for example, are much, much better material - they last a lot longer, and they seem less problematic in the wind. I might get myself a large dome hide, but it's a tough call. The cost is about £320, compared to about £60 for the hide in this video.! So I could buy 5 of em..!
Thank! Paul. I want one.
Great video. I couldn't close my blind fps anything before I saw it.
Thanks Paul...I have one of these hides but I don't use that often anymore, but when I do, I can NEVER remember how to pack it up again!
I had to watch a video to figure out how to do it myself.. then I made one! It can be tricky. I've actually seen about 6 different ways to fold it down - this one seems to work for me.!
Thanks saved me load of problems.
Great vid thank you as I just bought one of these so you have saved my bacon 😉
Great. Glad I could help!
I could not pack it back down. Thank you! Oddly it only seemed to work if I folded one side down (after folding in half) first. So if anyone is having trouble try the other way!
Been trying to pack a hide like this down for about 2 hours. After watching this it’s down and in the bag within 30 seconds!!!!
Hi Paul, thanks so much for posting this. Having opened up my hide in the house it was great to find out how to fold it up again!!!! Please can you tell me where I can get the lightweight fabric for draping over the window. All the ones I have searched seem to be heavier and not easy to see through.
Glad to be of help!
And where di you get the lightweight fabric Paul? I am in Scotland. x
Hi can you please tell me what kind of pegs you used to hang your own netting in the hide? Great helpful video. Thanks
I'm not sure exactly where I got those clips. But they are like small bulldog clips
@@PaulMiguelPhotography I used self adhesive velcro on the scrim and a strip fitted to the hide. It's cheal and you don't have to worry about buying and losing clips.
Best way !Thks:)
I have a similar pop up hide but it is taller and without poles. I demonstrated it at my camera club last year and it went up in seconds. When I tried to take it down, it got twisted and refused to be put away, much to the amusement of everyone watching! At home the next day I put it up and down within three minutes.
Always the way. Taking down is never easy. Had to do a few takes here! Thanks for watching and for commenting David.
@@ericmather5710 are there any videos online you could watch to see how to fold it up? These things can be very tricky to master!
Thanks for the video.. Which hide is this? Is there enough room for two chairs side by side?
You can just manage two, yes. I find them on ebay - it is the American 'Doghouse' type.
Hi Paul. I have a question about this blind and I'm hoping you can help me.
I'd like to have a floor inside of the blind; what if I were to purchase two of these and insert one inside of the other, but upside down in order to have the roof of one as my floor? Could that work?
I have never thought of that. One problem I think is that the windows might not match up. I would just use some tarpaulin as floor. Or what I often do is use a square piece of wood to sit the chair on
I really struggle with putting mine back. I must try this method!
It's the only one that works consistently for me.
Where can I buy a 2 way view hide please?
What hide is it? And where is it from?
Can you link it please
Hi Chris. I find these on ebay usually. Look for 2 man tent hide. They are of the Doghouse variety. This one is 5 foot square.
@@PaulMiguelPhotography is it worth paying the extra for the doghouse one from ameristep?
the hide is not waterproof. right?
I have actually found it to be very waterproof. After a while it can develop small holes though. In light rain, I would say no problem at all
Paul Miguel Photography - Maybe using Fabsil Plus on it might help. These would be top rate camping gear if they had good hydrostatic head materials
to heck with the chair, I want one with a hammock in it. ;)
Hammocks are surprisingly comfortable!
Looks just like the Ameristep Doghouse blind. There are other methods for folding them, I find yours harder to be honest than what it shows on the bag that comes with the blind. Much better than the so called photographers blinds, more room, newer ones like mine (Ameristep Roundhouse as well, just newer model) have the darkened interior so you are not seen moving which helps a lot. This shows the method I use. ua-cam.com/video/70OlWhqG324/v-deo.html I do find pushing against a tree helps.
After having a very cold morning i have now decided to invest in a pop up hide, I have become a bit of a wimp in my old age.
Awesome. Wildlife watching supplies hides are proper quality and so durable, but I find the standard one a bit small and the seating too low. The ones I use are great, and much much cheaper, but not as durable and if not sheltered they will catch the wind! Let me know if you need more advice Phil. Maybe try the cheaper one first...
@@PaulMiguelPhotography I could do with all the advice you have Paul, as I don't have the foggiest about hides. bear in mind i'm just over 6ft tall
'Wildlife Watching Supplies' hides are high quality but cost about £300. They have a large dome hide which is probably o.k., but the standard one I find the seating position just too low - and I'm not very tall. The ones I use are more like £70 - they are on ebay, amazon - usually as 'pop' up shooting hides. Also check out the chair hides - they look quite useful but you can't really move around in them.
The problem with the chair hides is that I like to take some low angle shots inbetween normal height shots, so unfortunately I have ruled them out. I have seen some on ebay around £49 so I may try one of them and possibly ask my wife to stitch another low angle view point.
Sounds a good idea. My other half wouldn’t dream of doing that for me!
