This video is so refreshing and restores my faith in humanity lol. You get quickly to the point; you're not so obsessed with hearing yourself and watching yourself to milk as much camera time as possible ha ha. One tip I've taught people is to take their snacks out of the loud wrappers and put them in either ziplock bags or wrap them in a paper towel to keep the noise down. It's the little things that add up to success.
Last year I got my first kill with a bow from a ground blind. 9 point buck in full velvet. Nobody told me about wearing black, or black face paint, or only keeping one window open... I did these things instinctively because I know I tend to move around a little. My blind is clean inside, and completely invisible for the brush. I cleared out a shooting lane from the adjacent thicket with a machete and propped the blind 10 yards in the thicket. I've created a murder hole...
Tip # 15--since you spent all that money on a ground blind, spend $10 to &12 more on a 3' X 4' rubber backed throw rug. Place it in the back part of the blind, where you place your stool, chair whatever, and the carpet keeps your chair from sinking into the forest floor. Also gives you a clean dry spot to set your gear or change your socks etc. !! I have one for each of my 3 blinds and have used the same rugs for 5 to 6 seasons now !!
The blind is easy to put up and take down. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxvlQxmcZQzSQSYbJsEgAGvG2DaduKTV99 As a female hunter, the ease of placing and setting up the blind is a plus. It’s more of a wind barrier than a warm quilted blind. Which makes it a lot lighter than our quilted blind. I enjoyed the larger windows/openings. Made for a successful season. It has held up well for the first season and the stitching looks good.
Great tips, thank you. For hanging your bow, if your blind won't support the weight, you can use a shepherd's hook like the ones you see in a cemetery for hanging plants.
I have also used a Shepherds hook (for hanging plants) to hang my crossbow. You can tape the area that the bow sits with tape to keep it from making noise
Number one mandatory "tip" when using ground blinds is plan your safety backstop. It is much easier to choose safe shooting directions, with safe backstops, when shooting from an elevated position in a tree stand. With elevated treestands you can more easily choose safe shooting directions such that the shot has a proper backstop at an angle into the ground. It is true that you can safely shoot out of ground blinds but it is much more difficult to properly orient a ground blind to create a safe backstop. I have seen too many ground blinds set up such that the shot is across a horizontal field with only the woods as a backstop such that other hunters can be killed.

Great video. Didnt think about wearing black though. Another tip would be, if you have adjustable windows, open them far enough so when you shoot your arrow, you dont hit the edge of the window. Easily overlooked even you practice drawing back, looking through your peep and pins, thinking you have plenty of room. Arrow sits 3+ inches lower than your sight does.

I have been using a ground blinds 20 + years when turkey hunting, and you never know it all. All 14 tip's are spot on and I have learned them the hard way before UA-cam existed. Great Tip's only things I would add is bring water it can get hot in blinds and before you plump down your cash for a blind. Look at what the blind is made of, if it is shiny ... It will stick out like a sore thumb, and if you set it up facing the sun ... you will regret it. Also always have an arrow out of quiver and with in easy reach, and shooting from your knees or in your chair is a must do before the season starts. Thanks for the Tips
Use these for turkeys all the time...I Like the bow hanger idea. My tip is I put 8 ft of paracord on each hub including the roof. I tie to trees or heavy branches on the ground instead of stakes. Also put blind under a tree for concealment and throw upper rope over upper branch and tie off. Now bow won't pull hub down, also heavy snow won't collapse it .We can hunt deer and turkeys during December here in Wisconsin. It works. Good solid video, thanks
If your blind is going to be set up in the same place year after year, you might try this idea. I got a pallet, 78 x 78 inches, floored it with plywood, put nails around the edges where the tie down loops on the blind are located and set up the blind on it. I also stapled down rubber matting on the floor to kill noise.
Couldn't have said it any better. I do everything you mentioned except the water proof spray. If I had to give one tip though, make sure you clear the back wall of the blind while at full draw. Spooked a good buck because my elbow brushed up against the back wall when I drew, making a SWISHHHH sound.
SOLID info!! Concise and very well put. You talk fast but very clear and saves time. I wear "Large" so actually bought a 2XL all black matt black top which I put on when I get to the blind. I wear it and before leaving spray it down and drape it on my chair. Put it on when I get in. I know my scent control is great the days they walk right up to the windows and look in going "I know there's some strange shit going on but not bad enough to snort and bugger off". ; ) The one thing I would add is that you have to be particularly anal about scent control from a ground blind as the scent hits them asa soon as they get into the wind path. You might be irking the wind or hunting from that blind only when the wind is in your favour but while does, fawns and smaller bucks will come in straight a big buck even if it off by a little bit will always try to wind you by going off course and putting the suspected area and the wind in his favour. So scent control is paramount always but especially from a blind. I also prefer the ground blind shot vs. the tree stand shot as the ground blind shot is parallel to the ground and a clear double lung or deeper penetration vs the angle created by a tree stand.
The Best How TO--Hunting Video on YTube. Concise, Clear, well thought out presentation. I have hunted out of ground blinds for years, but the video is a great reminder to see before the season starts. Thank you very much for the excellent video.
A great folding hunting seat can be obtained from Harbor Freight. The frame does not sink into the soft dirt, there is a foldable tray on the right side for binos, calls etc. and the left side comes with a removable cloth pouch with multiple pockets for your water bottle and gear you are do not need at the moment. It is light weight aluminum frame with nylon cover and both are very sturdy. I would also suggest adding one of their soft kneeling pads to the seat for height and comfort for long sits. The best news is they can be had for $19 on sale with a coupon from their monthly catalog or from on line. Makes great gifts also. Happy hunting! PB
One tip that you didn't mention is that you need to use fixed blade broadheads when shooting thru the shoot thru mesh windows. Expandables will deploy early when shot through mesh window. Also if you have fibre optic sights, they will not glow in the blacked out interior of a ground blind. This is especially bad if you have the type of sight where the fibre optic pins are superimposed over the other one so that the only way of telling a 20 yard pin from a 30 yard pin is if the fibre optics will glow.
Good video and to the point. Burn dry pine needles in a a metal bucket and smother the flame. The smoke will mask scent works good especially in area's where people burn brush
At first I saw the 10mins and wasn't going to watch. But I'm sure glad that I did, bc this has been the most informative "how to video" I've ever seen. I loved the video clips visualizing the errors that could go wrong. The commentary also had no,b.s. and had all good solid facts! Great Video! Thanks for making it for everyone!
WOW.... great video ! When I saw 14 tips it made me think....ALOT I didn't take into consideration. Things mentioned here I never took into consideration. All of it I will do now. Unsuccessful I have been due to not realizing alot. Thank you.
One more thing I would advise. Ear protection when rifle hunting. You are going to key off more of what you see than what you hear. You don't shoot in a direction where you hear something. You shoot in a direction where you see something. No reason to give yourself permanent hearing damage.
I know this video is like 3 years old now but I still use it as a refesher every year and share it with guys that are just starting out hunting or just trying pupub blinds for the first time.
Great video. I don't hunt out of a blind, usually stand or still hunt. This season however, I have been taking my neighbors 28 yr old handicap son out. He is a big dude with car accident disabilities that keep him out of a tree....so I picked up a blind.....we are doing so many things wrong in this thing. Guess that's why we spooked several deer on day 1 and 2 of the weekend. Going to do somethings different this weekend. Thanks for the great tips
I am 63 years old & have many hunts under my belt using ground blinds. What you have said is spot on I do everything you have recommended.. It works. I would like to add 1 little thing.,..I spray scent killer on my window screens & windows & door.. You made a great presentation!
Great information! Very important to practice while seated. Many horror stories about couldent pull my bow back! Dont get to close to the back of the blind or you will hit your elbow when drawing your bow. Sent control is still needed and probably the most important thing. Try sprinkling skunk sent around your blind, it will mask you sent and doesn't alarm animals. Good luck!
I put a chair in mine that was too short for the windows. Also, some chairs are squeaky or made of scratchy or plastic (noisy) material. In addition, be careful where you set your chair if you leave windows open as blowing rain can leave a nice puddle in your chair to sit in. Some blinds have quiet doors and windows with hooks instead of velcro or ZIPPERS. Get there on a dead silent morning and you will see what I mean when you try to zip the door shut. Love/hate ground blinds. They serve a purpose when no trees available, keep you drier on rainy days, block frigid wind chill, and they DO help reduce/contain your scent if you do not allow a cross breeze to blow thru your blind (only open windows on one side, and sparingly). All tips here are great. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
Thanks for the video I've taken a lot of antelope with my ground blind and all the points well done the only thing I may add would draw a map of yardage with your range finder with reference points because if using a mess on the window the range finder is useless.
I just bought my first pop up blind and set it up yesterday. That is the reason I found you because I wanted to learn how to hunt out of the blind. Great Tips and Great Video! Thank you
Total novice here in Georgia. I went in my first mentored hunt yesterday put on by a world wide hunting group. I did not see anything so I came home empty. It was my first time in a blind. It had black mesh Velcro windows that were so high you had to stand if you wanted to use them. You mentioned shoot through mesh. These looked solid. What constitutes a “shoot through mesh”? Thank you
EASY BRUSH IN TIPS...for hard ground situations. I run a chord around my blind from door edge to door edge...about knee high....then take cut limbs with leaves that's natural in the blind area and tuck them in between the rope and blind wall...really works well. Also, go and buy a cheap cargo net and attach it over the blind roof...then insert branches in the netting to breakup the contour of blind roof.
Brent, you recommend a good military technique. This old Army retiree used camo technique 21 years of service to this GOOD & GREAT United State of America...God help Biden and God bless the USA!
Great tips on brush in techniques, thanks. I always hunt from a ground blind during bow season and every year I try to find the best spot with enough background cover and this technique makes it so much easier to camouflage and don’t have to worry about being in the trees or in the open.
got a true giant coming off the neighbors field. there is no tree at all were he comes through my property, so ground blind it is. never used a blind so it should be interesting. got it set up already with 2 trail cams and he passing the blind at 20 yards. Going to home depot to get the equipment tie tonight, great idea. cool video for the first time blind user. I will be so out of my element on the ground, but I'm brushed in really good, so I'm hoping for the best.
Great video! Question: What do y'all do when you need to relieve yourself? Take a hike? Use a bottle? My first time using a ground blind this year. Thanks for the tips!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video and share it with us. I found several of your ideas very good, and not necessarily self evident if you haven't hunted in a ground blind previously. This is my first year using a ground blind because my son intends to join me some days and my ladder stand was a single. Thanks again.
Thank you. First year using my blind. I hope I get one! I'm hunting public land for ten first half so up the trees I go. Second half of the season Nov. 12 I have access to a part of a local forest preserve through an archery program. My spit is about 4 acres in an oval, and 96% is cattail marsh. There is a nice set of trees in one corner, and some bushes on the other side with terrain making a fuel. It's going to be awesome until it snows and I can't hunt there anymore because my car will get atuck.
I appreciate the effort that you put into doing a quality video short into the point. Helpful for those who have never hunted out of a blind, or hasn’t ever hunted in almost 40 years
I try to place the tree branches in front of the windows so as to disrupt shape of the window. That way the buck don't look at your blind and see perfect triangles or rectangles.
kaboom362 Eh I have left a blind out for maybe a week and a totally wild buck walked right by within 5 yards I just couldn't take a shot they normally don't care
I don't bow hunt, and am rather old (74). Simply bored. However, I have observed many professional presentations in my life, and I greatly appreciate your succinct description combined with your video examples. Far above average !!
One thing I do, and this is going to sound weird, but it works, I rough in the inside of the blind too. I've found that it breaks up the silhouette if you want to have more than one window open and, you can still wear your camo. It adds a little extra depth to your blind and it does stick out quite as much.
Thanks man for the video. I have found that blind hunting is more challenging and much safer than tree stand hunting for the last 6 years. If you think it isn't then you haven't tried it. It took me at least 2 years to figure out the things you covered in this video. Two things you might want to mention, one is have a pee bottle and two is have a comfortable chair with a back for the older guys to use with both a pad for your butt and a back cushion. Thanks for all your wisdom and advice. Good luck hunting!!
Awesome video with great tips! I hunt a lot out of my blind as I have artificial hips and knees so climbing into most treestands is not easy. The best tip...wearing black instead of camo!!! I just subscribed as I like your presentation!
Always check the inside of your blind before entering. In the middle of day they collect plenty of heat and snakes love these blinds and that's another reason I don`t use a mat or carpet in my blind. Also don`t leave any food in your blind when you leave it always keep it as scent free as possible. Bears will tear your blind to pieces if he smells food in it.
FANTASTIC video! Just finished my first week of deer hunting out of stands and was looking into getting blind for the next few weeks. This was super helpful
I sit inside of a natural bush blind. I have two hickory trees that split, that's my opening. I use a burlap mosey oak tarp to cover between the trees. Its pretty much 6 foot round inside. Only thing is I have rabbits and chipmunks that like to visited me lol
I put plywood on the ground and set my blind on top of it and tack it down to plywood with tar paper tacks to keep the blind from moving. So I’m quite when I move around. I also use Bog pod with the vice on top to hold my gun. I do everything you mentioned.
All great info. To add, I've been busted for just opening a side window that changed the look of the blind, even though I was not able to be seen. Thanks for posting.
great video but..i got brand new blind put it out same day and got a deer 2 hours later, of course I put next to a tree and camouflaged it with branches.
nice and practical.. i rarely use ground blinds ..so most of the points are right on (with out the blind ) your comments on breaking up your profile is right on. never sit or stand in the open always have something breaking up your profile and be very aware of where the light is coming from good video ...
All excellent tips, John! Thanks! I have archery hunted for 20 years out of a portable stand, this will be my first year trying a ground bind. My only concern is shooting through that screen. I know it doesn't take too much to affect an arrow at close range to really fail your shot downrange. I guess I just need to test it.
With fixed head you'll be OK but mechanicals I can't imagine it not releasing the blades. I watched a video earlier today of a guy shooting fixed blades accurately through mesh.
well done! I would suggest for crossbow hunters to take a shootin stick and get it firmly stuck in the ground. I never hit the woods without one. I have a rubber lightweight matt for exercise that goes under my feet. Not only does it take noise to zero it helps keep your feet warm by keeping them off the gound. Good Luck this year !
Thanks for posting this video,I'm new to hunting and Isetup my blind on my backwoods. I heard something coming and I look and my chair make a noise, this things turn the truck Jake brake on my super loud, a mix of a grunt and a air compressor valve relief 😅 went home super confused. I hope I get my first buck this upcoming season.
Direct and to the point. Great tips. The black clothing makes so much sense and I never thought of it. Amazing how the camo clothes reflected the light. I have black netting to go over my head to keep away mosquitos. I'll have to see how much that will allow light to show my face. It looks like he hasn't posted a video in four years, I hope he is ok.
I hunt a good bit from a ground blind and use a lot of these tips! Very well thought out video! Very interesting to see just how effective some of these tips are at adding concealment! Great job!
Thank You. I've always hunted from a stand but now that I'm 74, bought a pop up blind. Noticed how deer can even see you in a stand with movement. Great tips. That waterproof spray must have oder. How long do you leave it out to get rid of that smell? Even if you don't smell it the deer probably can. I'm going back over your video and make a checklist on the pointers. Thanks again.
I liked the video, and I am going hunting in the morning. I have done a few of these things, but I still have not done most. I think it's a little late now, but next year I'll be ready.
When ever I leave my tree stand I fill a garbage bag with air and tie it to my stand. The deer get use to something dark in the tree that moves in the light wind.
Great tips! Re: #12 - cover up the white blind rods. I wrapped mine in black electrical tape Re: #13 - i made a bow holder utilizing bent wire rod (covered with plastidip) and a tent stake, they sell versions as well.
Love the tips. I have 2 questions though. First, during gun season in the upper Midwest when you MUST wear blaze orange/pink, how do you hide yourself in a ground blind while wearing blaze? The second question is similar. Where do you put the blaze covers on the blind so people know you're there and don't mistake your blind for brush?
Very spot on. I didn't read all the comments so this may have already been suggested. I will reiterate the chair importance. But I would add to make sure you stake your blind to ground. Second, you probably won't be shooting offhand with rifle so practice with your steady stick of choice. And one more important thing for me is getting in and out of the blind quietly. Practice with full gear and practice with two people. I say two because a ground blind is great way to take a kid hunting. Good job.
This was a very informative video. New to ground blinds and this will help me out a lot. I have at least had my blind set up for a month where I want to hunt so the deer can get used to it.

Couldn't have said it any better. I do everything you mentioned except the water proof spray. If I had to give one tip though, make sure you clear the back wall of the blind while at full draw. Spooked a good buck because my elbow brushed up against the back wall when I drew, making a SWISHHHH sound.
Great video the only thing I highly recommend is ear protection that also is amplified for hearing, for rifle season of course
SOLID info!! Concise and very well put. You talk fast but very clear and saves time. I wear "Large" so actually bought a 2XL all black matt black top which I put on when I get to the blind. I wear it and before leaving spray it down and drape it on my chair. Put it on when I get in. I know my scent control is great the days they walk right up to the windows and look in going "I know there's some strange shit going on but not bad enough to snort and bugger off". ; )
The one thing I would add is that you have to be particularly anal about scent control from a ground blind as the scent hits them asa soon as they get into the wind path.
PB
Great presentation and long on common sense! Well done!
Excellent, wow thank you so much. I definitely know all my mistake now, lol.
Im still trying to wrap my head around shooting an arrow through mesh. Wont that completely fuck the shot?
Excellent tips never to old to learn something new or be reminded of something you overlooked.
Lots of info and no fluff. Straight to the point. Good video.
This is my first year bow hunting from a ground blind. Thanks for the tips. My biggest concern was what to do with my bow. Now I know. Thanks again.
I don't think you're supposed to shoot through the mesh
Good video and to the point. Burn dry pine needles in a a metal bucket and smother the flame. The smoke will mask scent works good especially in area's where people burn brush
What’s your take on using a green flashlight to enter the wood’s, or is red better,,???👀
I've watched a ton of blind hunting videos lately to start with my kids. This is by far the best. Fantastic work.
How can you use the wind? You can't predict the wind it is constantly changing.
I " discovered " walkers game ear this year. With high decibel mics built into Hearing protection I can hear incredibly well.
Well done, thorough. I would add spraying the inside and see through scenes with scent prevention spray.
Yep!
My leica works through the mesh.
Thanks for the common sense tips. I'm a newer hunter and haven't gotten a deer since 2019. I need all the pointers I can get.
I just bought my first pop up blind and set it up yesterday. That is the reason I found you because I wanted to learn how to hunt out of the blind. Great Tips and Great Video! Thank you
as a first time hunter this video told me a lot of information i would have never thought of. thank tou for taking the time to make this.
Shoot through the mesh. Hands down the best thing I got from this. New to hunting, much less archery. Thanks so much. Great tips- all of them.
Cool ! I`ve never hunted before , been thinking about trying it lately , this was inspiring , greetings from Norway
Wow! Those all seem like fairly straightforward tips but I just learned a ton. As a new hunter I'm still learning. Thanks for making this video
You May not be an expert but your knowledge on this topic really Will help me and others alike as this will ne my first year to attempt bow hunting.
I'm thinking of trying it to for Turkey I hunt public tho so I can't let it sit out there or I'm pretty sure it whuld be taken
Your whole video was to the point and spot on, just gas the music at the end and you score 100%.
Hey thanks for the tips. Lots of points I didn't think about like black instead of camo
First year using a ground blind. I learned a good way to hang my bow, and that camo isn't as important. Thanks man.
Great tip!
kaboom362 Eh I have left a blind out for maybe a week and a totally wild buck walked right by within 5 yards I just couldn't take a shot they normally don't care
kaboom362 deer don't comprehend geometry
Trig is another story. LOL
I don't bow hunt, and am rather old (74). Simply bored. However, I have observed many professional presentations in my life, and I greatly appreciate your succinct description combined with your video examples. Far above average !!
Seems like you should black out the bow too if it’s going to hang
One thing I do, and this is going to sound weird, but it works, I rough in the inside of the blind too. I've found that it breaks up the silhouette if you want to have more than one window open and, you can still wear your camo. It adds a little extra depth to your blind and it does stick out quite as much.
Office chairs are great in blinds
Why would you bear hunt in something that limits your vision where a bear can sneak up on you?
got my first buck from a blind last year. walked in with everything, set it up, and got seated. about 2 hours later a buck wandered by. very awesome.
Awesome video. I'm going to sit in blind for my first time this weekend. Very useful tips. Thanks.
After many successful turkey bow hunts and learning the hard way I will say your list is good!
On number 13 about hanging the bow if you can’t hang it or don’t like it they make a a bow hanger that goes in the ground. Loved the video
Man those was some awsome tips I never even thought of thanks for the tips and i we’ll definitely use them thanks again
Great video!! You illustrated most everything I was concerned with hunting from a blind. Awesome job!!!
I wrapped mine in black electrical tape
Re: #13 - i made a bow holder utilizing bent wire rod (covered with plastidip) and a tent stake, they sell versions as well.
In michigan the only time you have to wear orange during gun season is when you're walking through the woods. Once inside you can take it off
First year hunter here, this is great advice! Thank you for taking the time to pass some knowledge!
Just bought my first ground blind, thank you, these are great tips!
Good job.
All great tips! Thank you for watching and sharing!
There is more useful advice per minute in this video than any other hunting video I've seen. Great work!
This was a very informative video. New to ground blinds and this will help me out a lot. I have at least had my blind set up for a month where I want to hunt so the deer can get used to it.
Nice! The longer it sits there the better!
