    Thanks for giving me a good reminder to keep resisting getting a pool in northern Europe. Jeez, what an effort for a couple of days of swimming!

      Couple of days? Where in Northern Europe do you live, Jan Mayen? lol.
      And the pool is heated as well. I would love to have a pool.

      I have heard many times a family either buying a pool or looking to buy a house and pay extra for a house that already has a pool . Within 6 months the pool turning into a huge lawn ornament . Rarely to be used ever again .

      we resisted to build a pool on our large plot (second home) here in the Czech mountains (2500sqm, House is like 140sqm). Very happy we did because it needs constantly maintwnance, costs a lot of energy esp for heating and is very rarely used. 🤷‍♂️
      Instead we use a 700l high quality pump up whirlpool (heated) which we have put between April and October . super efficient and plenty enough, inexpensive and used wvery day we are there

      I've lived in a couple of houses in the UK with pools and it's a lot more than a couple of days. Our daughter was forever having friends back from school to use the pool which was great for her.
      At the second place we did not have a winter cover, just a heavy duty bubble cover which was used in the summer to keep things from cooling over night. Lot's of cleaning needed but I found that theraputic. The winter cover at the first place was a tarp that stretched over the pool and was a pain to put on and take off (presumably different regulations over here).

    Bjorn, don’t use ropes to tie down the plastic sheets you are covering the winter covers with - get a net big enough and heavy enough to cover them, at least 7mm diameter ropes for the mesh and heavier for the side ropes around the net’s edge to have enough weight - this should stop the polythene sheeting from flapping in the wind.

    The joys of a pool in Norway. I don't cover mine over winter and instead just clean it in spring. A couple of days and three or four filter cleans and its fine.

    Noob trick when in need of highest water flow... remove the connector so you just have the hose with nothing attached. Also go for thickest cable you can find.

    Makes me seriously nervous to see the very sharp drop off at the property edge . The corner of the shed is literally right at the drop off . Seriously hope corrosion or other events do not crumble away the edge toward the house . No way would i build a house there . Now I’m sure there was a professional inspection of the area and it came out good but I’ve seen that before . Assuming eventually a fence around the property . The house looks amazing , though . The pool will be a really good look to the property . Hopefully to be used after 6 months . My favorite are the house videos . Shows what you can accomplish with hard work .

    That's awesome that your pool heater is a heat pump. I didn't even know that was a thing, every one I've ever seen here in Canada has been gas fired. :(

    • @andyjdhurley
      @andyjdhurley 3 місяці тому +2

      We had to replace the heater at our house (which we don't live in - complications of my wife's job) five years ago, the gas boiler had died and the gas pipe to the boiler house had also died so new boiler, new pipe, certifications etc meant it was almost as cheap to put in a heat pump. It made me feel better to put it in and the tennents love the fact that it is now MUCH cheaper to run (plus they have an EV so they ar in that mind set). As it is only used in the summer months the COP is excellent (I don't know exactly as I have not lived with it myself).

    I get why Bjørn can be frustrated at times, so silly comments 😆 "You shouldn't have built it", "do this, don't do that".
    It's his house, I'm sure the whole family will enjoy the heated pool for many years to come 😁
    And with the plants and so on, it will be more private and really nice, I'm sure :D
    Looking forward to follow the progress :)

    possible to add a redirect path for rainwater from the roof to fill the pool?

  • @ALCLCFVIS
    @ALCLCFVIS 3 місяці тому

    Depends on terrain (sandy/beach areas, never empty them) and how it's made. Mine is reinforced concrete all round, on rocky soil. In my case, I'm "lucky", no kids, so no cover for now.....couldn't install a lamella on mine because of a motor so I either go for a roller (to help maintain pool chemistry and heat...but now protection for kids, animals or drunk people) or a top cover with door (never asked price, but it's expensive for sure).

      I agree, here in the US, it’s a building code to have the pool fenced off for the potential of young kids drowning. That should tell you something. The real risk to little children are real, and it’s not worth the risk to take a chance.

    Hello, first of all, thank you for sharing the headlight test videos.
    As far as I understand from your videos, the best headlight technology is Volvo's Pixel Light and Volkswagen's IQ Light technology is not a very successful technology according to its production purpose and explanation video.
    As someone who tests headlight technologies, can you list the top 5 headlight technologies?

    There are better pool-cover solutions than using steel covers that you have too move around each year. These better solution also are relatively easy to use and protect the pool year round as well as preventing children and animals falling inn.

      Watch the video again, those metal sheets are only there as a temporary solution, until the motorized lamellar cover can be installed.

      I used to really enjoy pool maintenance. There is something really great about walking round the edge of a pool with a vacuum pole, skimming off leaves, checking the water chemistry all while thinking you are doing something positive for your family. The really nice thing is you only start doing it when the weather is warmer in the spring so it's not like you have to be out there in all weathers.

    Was a bad idea from the start in my opinion. Takes so much space on cost alot. Go to a lake is much more spiritual. 🥳

      @@bjornnyland what i was thinking is like if the shed has some opening between roof and walls it would be like the same as closing it up partly outside. Maybe drying of firewood at the same time

    Sorry that a very dangerous steel to be used as a pool cover. You have older parents and kids. This will kill. There are other cheaper alternatives. Whoever recommended this needs to be investigated.
