The price of the hat actually depends on the quality of the wool/fur/felt the hat is made of. While some of the ordinary wool/fur/felts like rabbit and stuff are going to be less more often than not.. the more premium the felt, the higher the cost of the hat generally. For ordinary wool/fur/felt hats, you're looking at the space of about $50 or thereabouts and going up from there. For the more expensive wool/fur/felts like elk and beaver and such, you're looking more in the space of about $200 and going on up from there. For the pure beaver felts, they're about the top premium fur felt that you can get really and those will start anywhere from about $300 and generally a lot more expensive. The most expensive felt hat I've ever heard of is called the Diamanté. And those usually have diamonds and things added to the hat band and are made of premium fur felt. And that one usually runs closer to $1,000.
A good hat won't have wool in it. It will have beaver and rabbit, the best hats are pure beaver. I would not spend ten cents on a wool hat of any kind and I've worn hat's all my life.
Yes that is one of the major benefits of the higher quality hats. Their shape is very consistent. Honestly I really value a consistent and accurate hat shape and that’s why I sometimes spring for a high quality hat. S^C
I work in a 40x and they last me about 3 to 4 years. If you are wearing them everyday, i definitely suggest at least that because you get what you pay for.

Lloyd, I will totally agree, prices of felt hats have gone up significantly over the past few years. I know that I’ve gotten really lucky scoring some good cyber Monday deals that have got me the prices that I mentioned in this video. If I could make a blanket statement, I would say budget a minimum of $400-$500 for a good hat just as a overall summary. Thanks for checking out the channel! S^C
What quality hat should I go with? I want one that will last, I only plan on taking out for a day at the range, a hike, going to the state fair; that kind of deal. I picked up a Stetson Revenger gambler style hat for $150. It says that it's 4X buffalo fur felt.
For casual use, I think a 4X is sufficient. However longevity will catch up to you at some point. I really like the @American Hat Company, Lucky 7 serious hats. They last forever and are at a really great price range. My daily wear is a Luck 7 silver belly. Thanks for the question!

I haven’t ordered one in a couple years. But I used to order them online from boot daddy and other retailers like that. I do know that some local stores have some around from time to time. You can try that. Let me know if you still have trouble finding them.

That is usually referred to as a minnick crown. There are a few variations of it that change the look quite a bit. This one is very narrow over to top with very small dents in the sides. I have seen some with a wider top and large dents. Both crowns called by the same name. S^C
