I was lucky enough to sit down and talk to brian Downey, just after phil passed, ..my brothers girlfriend and her brother grew up in crumlin with phil,, we had a drink,.and spoke about him...Brian was such a lovely guy...I suppose,.looking back, I was asking all sorts of questions, about phil, I was excited just to be speaking to brian,, I was 19 then....can't remember everything I said....but, it is a good memory to have....my grandparents,.and aunty, are buried not far from phil,, in Howth cemetery,, and sadly,, his mother is now there with him...RIP,, phil and philomena...love you man....you were the Rocker...

Brian's drumming is so memorizing. If you don't really listen, you will miss the unsubtle on/off beats that carry the song. I thought the snare was great, then I realized the bass drum during the rim shots was almost mind blowing! That's what Brain does, makes the complex seem easy. 🥁🥁🥁🥁🎵🎶🎼🥉🥉🥉🥉

Thin Lizzy is highly valued in Europe as 1 of the big influencers on Hard Rock/Heavy Metal in the late 70 - early 80's. Their mixture of two guitarplayers, the harmonys, the irish storytelling aspect, it all made them great. and in the middle stood Mr Phil Lynott.

Phill will a brilliant wordsmith, story, frontman, leader of the band, top bass player, top singer surround by all his Commanders in chiefs all the boys. He's a clown that we put down

He's a king but not in this town
To you and me he's a renegade
But he is a king when he's on his own
He's got a bike and that's his throne
And when he rides he's like the wind
To you and me he's a renegade
    [Hook: Guitar Solo]

He's just a boy who has lost his sights
He's a stranger, prowls the night
    He's a devil, that's right
To you and me he's a renegade
    [Hook: Guitar Solo]
    [Guitar Solo]
    [Verse 3]
Check it out, check his face
Look at his eyes, they're so sly
I wonder why he cries from the inside
    I wonder why he's a renegade
Oh please, I'm on my begged bended knees
Oh please, please heed my call

This band had a profound effect on me as a youngster. I saw them live 4 times before I left school. My favourite is the "classic" line up (Lynott, Gorham, Robertson, Downey), though they did some great stuff with other line ups, especially with Snowy. This song is very touching, we all know people like who Phil sings about.
There was no band like them before, and nothing since.

The very blessed and saintly Phil with the other boys in Thin Lizzy. Phil had all the skills that any brilliant rock star would need, back up by first-rate players Brian, Darren, Snowe and Scott. I was very lucky to get to see this band many time (but not enough) I got to see many other bands but for me, Lizzy and Rory Gallagher were kings, they were the very greatest to ever grace the stages on Gods green earth.

It is a good album but several of their albums are great but little known or under appreciated. It look me 30 years to appreciate China Town, when I eventually realized the songs were all well burnt into my memory. Johnny the Fox is an outstanding album. Fighting too. I ike the gentler Nightlife too. Bad Reputation is a great album - but presumably everybody knows that, right?
BTW They were great on that tour too. Ditto Thunder & Lightening. They were always (and still are) a great live band.

Just found this song and in all honesty it might be the greatest piece of music I’ve ever heard. It gives an emotional presence like mother by Floyd. But it feels even more personal. And somehow I feel his death affects how I hear his music. The way he looks at you in the video…wild.
