Saw him at the Ryman in Nashville last night.....Thu 28 Jun 18 He opened for Del McCoury. The full house crowd would not let this kid off the stage. 70 years old here and I've been coming to the Ryman since I was 5 years old.....I have never seen such crowd engagement of a performer. WE LOVED HIM. I have said this several years ago watching him perform.......The Opry better make him a member quick! He is the new sound of Music just as Bill Monroe was........This is a 70 year old traditionalist saying this.
I'm 71 and you nailed it. I have told anyone who will listen that Billy is the next great one and will have kids trying to copy what he does just like Elvis and The Beatles.
We saw Billy n his boys @ The Bootleg in Los Angeles Oct '18 ,1st time in LA & The Love that night was top notch!!! If you don't love Billy n his music then all I can do is pray that the Universe sees fit to cure you of your ailments because he should be enough. Peace n Love
Billy is THE MAN! While I'm Waiting Here at around 52:00 through Meet Me At The Creek which ends around 1:13:25 is why he's quickly becoming a top tier name in Jamgrass. I mean jesus christ this is about 25 or so SOLID minutes of grass jam, seamless segues and top notch improv. It honestly does not get better than this folks.
I first saw this guy at DelFest in 2016. He was playing with the trio at the time, between sets in the late night hall. I think the Travelin' McCourys were setting up their gear at the time and Billy came on and just started pickin' away on the side of the stage. Everyone around me was like "Who is this guy?!?". Word eventually circled around that his name was Billy Strings, from Michigan and that we were definitely going to want to keep an eye on him. It's pretty cool to see a band or artist when they're real small and unknown and find success. This guy is going places.
Just found this kid a few months ago, how disengaged am *I*? Saw a vid from a couple of years ago and he opened with "Turmoil and Tinfoil", which is pretty far from tradgrass and when he was done, the kids in the audience were hysterical and the adults were on their feet screaming for more. Wow.
Yep... think his name is Jared Walker if memory serves... and his phrasing, timing and musicality are wonderful. He's not mechanically packing notes into breaks - his breaks are emotive and add style to complement Rockin' Billy.
No disrespect intended Billy, but the Martin you are playing sounds better then the Thompson you now play. However, you can make a cheap Guitar Center acoustic sound great.
IT's unfortunate this recording is shoddy. The vocals are crystal clear thank god, but the banjo, bass, and mandolin are ALL treble. There's no low end on this video, and THAT is unfortunate. I feel like i'm listening to this through my phone. :'(
get ears tool kit for chrome then you can EQ to taste anything you want, 9 band parametric with high and low pass filters I couldn't live without it and it's free.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Fantastic Band! Greetings from Switzerland! I am a big fan of you guys!
Billy is the chosen one
I love these HD vids from JHMF
There's practically no bass in this video. It sounds like it's playing through a phone.

my friend's wife square danced with Billy at 1:30am later that night!

Get on the train now, I've been following him for about 4 years and it just keeps getting better. Great time to be listening to this band.
Holy shit is all I can say.
The new mandalin player was the missing piece. Perfect!

Right, he's playing ideas, not just notes. So good!
Sorry,I think Drew was the man! Love them all but Drew rocked my fragile world.

Might burn your house down, if I was somehow sure Billy strings was in there
Needs a drummer, all blue grass bands need drummers.
