On your recommendation, after a disaster, I bought one (1000): the new Red Sea DC skimmer failed in four days. Really useful videos, coming bac after a few years away and finding it has all changed!
@@ReefDork, The Deltec just worked out of the box. Thanks for your Deltec video, just going to add a float switch to the lid let it cut off via the Apex and bring on an air pump to match the 20% the 600 would have done.
I found my redsea 600 noisy untill I got a stand and I run it run just under the minimum which made alot less noise I have now removed the black rubber bung on the silencer and ran an extra airline from outside and is now pretty much silent
@@jamescam200962 I did exactly the same, I bought the red sea off BRS review. Kept it for a few months but just had to change it, so noisey and hard to get a good skim. The deltec is soo much better 👍
I’ve had my RSK300 (bought used) for just under a year now, and over the past few weeks the hum has got considerably louder and is now starting to keep the mrs awake at night as our bedroom is right above the tank in the kitchen…. Just a low pitched loud annoying hum. No matter how much I clean it out and make sure everything is tight, all I can hear is the hum from the pump. Air intake is minimal noise and doesn’t affect us at night. It’s just that bloody pump. Interesting that others are having the same issues with the RSK. Kind of tempted to splash the cash and get the Deltec 600i….
Think we have had ours for the same amount of time. My 1000i is still going strong. I found adding some silicone gel along the blue screws help lubricant and keeps them from snapping off when assembling. I have upgraded my tank from 120gal to 220gal and still skimming great with out skipping a beat.
Hi Reef Dork! Love the channel! Can you please let me know how you diy’ Ed the collection cup hose? I got a 600i as well and would like to add a collection cup hose. Thanks!
I have a Deltec MCE600 back back skimmer. I even have the MCE300 back pack skimmer. They really think out these skimmers. Their backpack skimmers actually pull out junk and not just thin “tea color” green water. Not many hang on the back pack skimmers exist that actually do what they say they can do.
@@adatewithnature8333 what are you on about? His last video got 21k views his live stream average over 5k some videos are pushing half a mil views... plus he is the fastest growing reefing channel on youtube.
Mine worked great for skimming but not for co2 scrubbing, i think because it uses the tiny airline tubing. I ended up switching back to a red sea because they have the large 3/8” tubing and draw a ton of air through.
Could the modest air draw of this skimmer account for the lack of effect from the CO2 scrubber? I'm seeing underwhelming results from hooking the skimmer up with outside air as well
Well in another 10 to 12 years, your find they will bring out new models in replace of these again. Just like these skimmers replaced the tc kinds and smaller. So in my opinion you should buy a LifeReef protein skimmer, next. LifeReef skimmers are unchanged since 38 years ago, and don't use propeller needle wheel pumps. Since I bought vs3 72" I've never had to replace it and still in the same condition, and any pump can't be used. So check them out at LifeReef filter systems. Plus they may have less air about, that doesn't matter, as the air bubbles have more water contact, plus has never overflowed the cup.
Hello mate how long does it take to break in? I have mine for 3 weeks, and it overflows every night, I bought it because of your reviews. I don't know what to do anymore, it seems like a long time, it makes me a little angry, but my English, I'm Spanish, thanks friend
I've just bought another one for my 2nd tank. Really good bit of kit, only real downside is it can't control anything - ie turn off something if pH gets too high. Apart from that, not a lot to add to my first review...
hi, my 1000i dc skimmer pump has stalled a few times, meaning no bubbles and pump making huffing noise, i switch on and off and it works, but its a bitt annoying when i am out and it stops, my skimmer is about 3 months old in a new setup. please advice thanks
Curious if you still have this skimmer - mine was brilliant until recently when I get loads of micro bubbles coming out the skimmer which end up in the DT (even after my bubble trap). Any suggestions?
Yep, still got it and still love it. Sometimes micro bubbles come from a pin prick hole in the air line on the skimmer. Have a real close look and see if you can locate the source of any extraneous bubbles.
Hi alex what depth have you got yours set at? I raised mine to 18cm water depth. With the water valve open 100% i still fill the cup in a couple hours on setting 5. Skimmer been running several weeks now. Any tips?
@@ReefDork the water exiting the skimmer is fully open. Water level inside the skimmer is about an inch below the min sticker on the other tube...just wandered roughly how much water yours is sitting in
I have the 400i on my smaller tank now - I find it's not performing well and makes some noise, which I think is because it doesn't have enough junk to pull out. Ie it's oversized for my tank/the amount I feed.
@@ReefDork Are you concerned about it running wet and emptying your sump? I’ve always had a permanent drain into a container so I don’t have to keep emptying the skimmer cup. Pure laziness on my part!

Have the same skimmer running for 12 months, thanks for the update

Great work Alex. Amasing long term review.👍

i used to run a scrubber before switching to NAOH, i raised the skimmer about 60mm allowing me to ramp the dc motor/air up considerably!
