Every part of that tugboat is made by a company with a lot of paper pushers. As long as your job isn’t denying insurance claims that should get paid, you’re just as valid a part of the system
Awesome stuff, man. My dad used to operate a 75 foot Vietnam era landing craft, tug & barge. From the age of 11, I could dock her by myself. Watching this brought back some good memories from the old days. I’m a pilot now, airplanes, but my heart still yearns for the sea. Godspeed and calm seas to you. -Dallas
I always like seeing sped up footage of big ships being docked and seeing the little boats zip around it like worker ants but I never thought the view would be this sick from inside! 👌
That was a great video, you showed some muscle here. Thanks for the ride, very interesting as always. Hope to se some more videos when you are behind the boat like this. I like how you handle your tug.
Subscribed today from Cornwall UK so pleased your channel showed up in my feed. Looking forward to catching up on your other videos as well as your new content.
Awesome office! Check out those vibrations, that's a lot of weight being directed, a lot of horsepower being used. I'm guessing that's about 90% throttle, or more.
ive always seen Tug boats doing there thing when working on bridges like the Deleware Memorial Bridge. To see footage from the inside is amazing. Awesome setup on the controls looks fun. Great work! the rattling would drive me nuts though haha.
@@tugboatwilly843 haha it is deff amazing. stay safe and keep doing an amazing job. I sub'd! as well as showed some friends as its an awesome channel to watch!
I am from China and I am a high school geography teacher. I was shocked when I saw your video and learned what needs to be done when a ship enters the port.
Wow what a cool insight! Hi Willy, from Port Timaru, New Zealand. About to watch all your videos, I am a tug deckhand aspiring tugmaster. Keep it coming bro 🤙
Cool video. Never ran a z drive boat. Like to see one with some narration. Curious about load on the winch, engine speed and the direction of the z drives during all that.
Loved the shot of the other tug, it looked like it took a fair bit of power to maneuver that big ship, the cavitation really shakes the shit out of the tug doesnt it. If you can can you leave the door open on the next one, loed to have heard with the door open on this one.. thanks for the video
Please please please give all of your crew markers that they can make a mark where they are seeing vibrations in the hall and the structure itself when they see those things vibrating then someone can come in later on and weld those noisemakers out completely. You have a great craft it appears, but there’s a couple of things that are loose? WOW??
Hey now! They can happen but not as often as you think. We change that line out a good bit. Also with this type of line it doesn’t really snap back just kind of falls. Maybe like 5 feet of snap. Thanks for watching 🫡
The video is spectacular but it would have so much more sense if it was somehow annotated so that absolute laymen like me knew what was happening. I am writing this at the 23:20 mark where I am guessing the two tugboats just stopped assisting the Charleston Express in making a turn to the right (pardon me, starboard). Of course I might be totally wrong.
I’ll do better. He just finished making the turn and was done with them. They went on to the next ship and he went to the dock with 3 tugs. Thanks for watching 🫡
If you could narrate just a bit, on what you are doing, would be great for me. Former deckhand on a small 100-footer cargo/crew out of New Iberia LA, wish I had tried your profession afterwards, looks a lot more sane, as well as challenging. Much better scenery you have. Good luck, your future looks bright and long.
I’ll definitely narrate more. Some videos I got up with me wearing the mic I get more into what I’m doing if you want to check them out? Thanks for watching 🫡
Hey now! The pilots you see in my videos are docking pilots. Pretty much anything you need a tug for they get on the ship. The other pilots get on outside and bring the ship into the harbor
At first i thought this is video of those old ww2 plane fighters ,view from machine gun cockpit lol ...Anyway,i guess those windows are bullet proof ,or close to that, because if those ropes snap ,they could go straight for the cab.
Seeing him right up on the back of the ship for a bit gives me the chills thinking about the huge ass propeller that’s probably right underneath him lol
Knowing nothing about what I'm watching... can someone please explain why a ship is needed at the rear with a cable? To provide a reverse / LR thrust vector? And how do the captain's know (in the moment) what the cargo ship needs in terms of counter-action?
From what I understand, they guide these giant container ships to the dock. The container ships are too massive to make fine turns and movements, so the tugboats push/pull them into place.

Awesome! Does that other tug have a university of Michigan logo? Haha cool
That’s the logo of the other company in the harbor. They were just helping us out. We do the same for them when it’s busy. Thanks for watching 🤙
Knowing nothing about what I'm watching... can someone please explain why a ship is needed at the rear with a cable? To provide a reverse / LR thrust vector? And how do the captain's know (in the moment) what the cargo ship needs in terms of counter-action?
So in short form that line is used to slow them down and help make the sharp turn. Thanks for watching 🫡
What is the purpose of this? This is my first time seeing something like this! Nice and cozy cockpit!
From what I understand, they guide these giant container ships to the dock. The container ships are too massive to make fine turns and movements, so the tugboats push/pull them into place.
Well put!! That’s pretty much what we do! Different boats do different things but that pretty much sums it up. Thanks for watching 🫡
How do you keep maneuverability behind the stern like that? Doesnt the cavitation make it almost impossible ?
It’s really not bad. I was mostly backing during this job. That’s why all the vibration. Thanks for watching 🫡
Que trabalho incrível

What is generating those vibrations...? Cavitation..?

It real. Thanks for watching 🫡
Is that one of them fancy z drive tugs?
It is! Thanks for watching 🫡
Are those windows bulletproof? What if the rope breeaks and projectile at the window?
They are not bulletproof but if the line where to break it would fall straight down not snap back. Thanks for watching 🫡
How does one become a tugmaster? Seems like such an awesome and enjoyable job. Absolutely brilliant content.
Hey now! I started on the deck and worked my way up. There is a few different ways you can do it though. Thanks for watching and the compliments 🫡

why are there extra plastic vinyl blinds? They to block out heat or UV?
