This is the single most useful video for new users and long overdue! I strongly suggest you put it somewhere inside the game. Include a link in the menu or in some help screen, anything, as long as it's easily found by first timers. Most tactical games veterans can find their way around, but I've seen so many players totally lost about the topics presented here on the forums and canny... PP is not an obvious game for most of your player base! :)

For the Behemoth Console edition: there is a game breaking bug where the research tab remains permanently greyed out and inaccessible. This seems to be fixed only by restarting w/ the tutorial option turned off, but then new players are on their own for early guidance.

Played it on XsX on game pass. Loving it. Wish listed the special edition game.
    There are bugs.
    1. The thumb stick moves automatically.
    2. The info of the will/strength/speed overlaps on the SP number.
    3. Certain height platforms are glitchy.

*This game can easily be the **_Prelude to Terror from the Deep,_** if Julian & company would make it. With the enormous following of the original XCOM games, **_Terror_** remake would be an instant **_Smash Hit!_** So HOW TO MAKE TERROR FROM THE DEEP?*
    # the _Hardest_ part, would be Scripting Missions, Story Background, and Voice Acting. _Maybe,_ some of the transitions from Sea Map, to Ship Combat would be hard. But hey, a Combat Map is just as Easy as it was for Phoenix Point.
    1. To save system and Development Resources, it can take place _on water,_ instead of underwater. (Think of a Wet version of Festering Skies)
    2. Phoenix would have small Fleets, or Fast Attack ships to patrol the seas. Escort Civilian & Faction shipping. Defend Ports and Seaside Cities.
    3. Sea Combat might consist of Sonar Contact of Underwater Pandorans. Phoenix Depth Charges, Torpedoes, or uses Missiles to force the Pandorans to the surface, where squad combat takes place either on the Pandoran vessel, or your own.
    4. Enemy Faction Combat would be all Surface & Land Warfare.
    5. Land Combat would be as you see in Phoenix Point now.
*There are more things, that I will leave for later, if enough interest is shown by Players and Phoenix Point. Until then, **_Happy Slaying in the Misted World of Phoenix Point & its DLC!_* 👍👍🏆

Nice, I just started my first campaign after getting the first year edition and there's a lot to juggle. Could you do one on stealth (what stealth means, silenced weapons and how to stay hidden, also the red blip)? I am thoroughly confused by it. My stealthy snipers get shot and hit by grenades even though they shouldn't have gotten spotted (much, much further away from the enemy than perception*stealth%). Meanwhile, I'm fighting some tritons that hide as soon as I shoot them and then I can't find them anymore until I trip over them.

@@arthanor9631 The reason your snipers are getting shot at is because they're not using silenced weapons.
firing a weapon always breaks stealth unless that weapon is silenced.
The reason that triton snipers can fire from stealth without being revealed is because they have a head augment that silences attacks for them.
If you want to fire from stealth and not be detected you only have two options, the Synedrion crossbow and spider mine launcher that Infiltrators use are all silenced by default so they can be freely used from stealth, OR you augment one of your soldiers with the synedrion cybernetic head which makes EVERY weapon he fires silent.
so if you want invisible snipers you'll need to give them the Synedrion robot head.

im completely lost. for a little while i was getting up on them, then i figured out finally how to assign troops to a second aircraft i stole. and i ran a few missions with my main group while trying to recruit troopsfor the other plane. sometimes though, i find that even though the missions are set up on the left side, when i take a plane to them, it wont engage. it just sits there. so i press it again. then i hear a haven is under attack. Surely when i get over there i should be able to defend, but...No. it says Deploy and i press it. then sits there as if ive never pressed it. then i press Haven info and i see a button that says 'Defend" so i press it. then it just shows where i am on Geoscope. Fucking Frustrating as fuck. is this a glitch? or Bug? whereall these things are popping up and Behemoths are flying all over the place. one time it said "Move to intercept" when i did, Nothing happened. What the hell? is this just me? the game was kind of fun when you get your troops in a small roomand wait for the enemy to walk through the front door, but as soon as you get back to planet view, you seemingly can do Nothing

Hi guys! Wanted to put it under product review but my remark was too long.
    Personal rating: 6/10
    Part1
Someone said it's a flawed masterpiece and I totally agree.
There are some extremely good ideas implemented in the game, it's depth is much more comparable to the Long War mods than to basic XCOM2 but the game easily becomes a repetitive suffering where you are constantly surprised by bugs and unexpectedly executed mechanics.
I played with all mods active, veteran difficulty, rage quit, uninstalled and deleted my save file when the archeron appeared. Game might be more enjoyable later, maybe should have started without DLCs or at the lowest difficulty first. Might have solved some problems of mine but not all of them.
I still think this game is a gem. But at this state it seriously needs modding options and years of modding to make it a finished game. If that ever happens, it will easily be better than XCOM2, might be at the level of the Long War mods.
    Positives:
    * Tech upgrades are both sideways and upwards. For example in XCOM you just buy the better tech and replace the old ones. Only consideration should be the weapon modifications but you almost always use the same stuffs on certain weapons (f.ex. a sniper rifle without a scope is a misplay). The sideways techs allow you a much deeper strategic layer. Which kind of weapon and ammunition will I need for my soldiers? What do I want to accomplish? Do I wanna shred? Diminish enemy will point then wololo with my priest? You have an extreme amount of options which is a genius idea.
    * The factions are fine. All three are intriguing, feel thematically and mechanically different.
    * The story itself is very interesting.
    * You can use land vehicles which add further strategic depth.
    * Base management. You can (and should) have several bases and base management itself is much more complex than the one XCOM has. It's not about 'excavate these spaces, build one of everything except for lab and defense matrix (mostly)'. You have several options with limited resources, and all of them have their own merit.
    * You control several airplanes which can be equipped with weapons or with other tools. There are different plane types to suit your needs.
    * Exploration. Going from dot to dot within Earth and scanning the sites has some Stellaris feeling to it, I liked it.
    * Sub-factions and independent havens. The game feels more realistic with them.
    * Targeting, ballistic calculation and overwatch. Manual targeting is a genius idea, including the fact that disabling different body parts results in different effects. Overwatch cones are much more realistic and strategic then just pressing overwatch then shooting at everything which comes nearby regardless of their position.
I really wanted to give the game more stars (and a hypothetical 6 stars for the mod which could save it) but the negatives are there and they are ugly.
    Negatives:
    * Tutorial. The lack of it. You have some tutorial missions explaining the tactical layer (some part of it) but that's all. With a game of this complexity, tutorials are obligatory. Unless you Wiki days before starting playing or it's your third playthrough, originally you have no idea what you are doing. It specially hurts, because you might need to restart your whole campaign if you ignored a very important thing in the beginning you didn't even know about. One example: with a game of this limited resources and this punishing gameplay you might not think of needing additional airplanes and crews to explore the whole world. You need them, and you need them asap. The game really needs a strategic layer tutorial, showing what to scan, what your priorities are, what to build depending of your gameplay etc. The tactical tutorial should be extended, too. Yeah, I learn how to move my soldiers and shoot but some tutorial scenario about abilities, will point management, inventory actions etc would have been fine.

    • @akoskovacs6830
      @akoskovacs6830 Рік тому

      * Game objectives on a map. Compared to XCOM2, it is a horror. You remember Bradford talking to you, the camera moving, showing those illuminescent green crates? Or tiny arrows at the edge of the screen showing where certain objectives are? Forget it. If there is a key object in the mission, you will find a blue square. Somewhere. Maybe a bigger white one too, which is usually only visible if you set your view in a way that you can see rooftops. In such missions I usually start by looking at the map, scrolling, rotating for two minutes, trying to figure out where to go.
      * Enemy spawning. Enemies frequently spawn from highlighted tiles and unlike XCOM2, they attack you the moment they find you. This can be very devastating because of the fog of war mechanism. An example: I was running to a certain point of the map. Noone was around, as far my soldier could see. I didn't see the monster spawning indicator, it was outside my sight. Pandora turn, and there are three enemies magically appearing next to my soldier, attacking. Not fun.
      * Bugs. Sometimes I see an objective, sometimes I don't. Two examples: I was getting access to a car. Reloaded the mission earlier, knew where the car was. This time the game didn't show it on the map, nothing was there. Run the soldier in that direction and the car magically appeared. Without that reload I would have no idea what to look for. In another case there was a field highlighted in blue. Dashed nearby to activate it next turn. Next turn, the same tile was not blue.
      * Abilities. They usually feel flat and boring and at the same time some ability combinations break the game (you become too OP). I felt it could be rebalanced and filled out with interesting abilities instead of now you can master this gun. Now this gun.
      * Inventory management. Game is a bit slow and you have to start each mission by checking all of your soldiers one by one to see if your Rambo remembered bringing ammo this time. There is a workaround here, allowing you to rebuy used ammo at the end of missions but mistakes still happen, medicit has to be checked etc. So additional two minutes of micromanagement before every mission.
      * There are different mission types but at the end they feel awfully similar. Kill all enemies. Secure the area. Get something and go to the extraction point. Haven defense? Protect something and kill all enemies. Nest attack? Kill all enemies until you find those hatchers. Kill them, too. Alongside with a low variety of maps this can cause a very repetitive experience.
      * 'Friendly characters' in a mission. I was siding with NJ the whole game then Kaos Market sent me for a vehicle and there was a Pandora vs. New Jerico fight there. I gladly rushed to my allies and set up overwatch to fight the xenos with them. Next turn NJ obliterated me. I was speechless. If you want me to fight two factions at once in a mission, that's fine. But please consider the diplomacy of a player's playthrough. Either put a faction there I have bad relation with or just use bandits instead of NJ. Or even a sub-faction like the Pure. Other story, defense turret activation mission. I activated them. Meanwhile Pandora appeared. The turrets tried to shoot at the enemy but from some angles my soldiers were in the way. Shouldn't have activated the turrets, they killed my troops. With a very limited action economy, against overwhelming force you just don't have the luxury to spend action points to move to a place where surely no Pandoran AND defense turret can see you. Or the very least notify the player that the turrets can also hurt them if they are in the way.

    • @akoskovacs6830
      @akoskovacs6830 Рік тому

      * Tech tree. I praised it and I mostly like it, however, some verticality would have been fine to give us a sense of progression. Like tier two and three of all armor and weapon types.
      * Grinding. Mission, mission, mission. The game wants you to have multpile aircrafts and perform tasks with different crews simultaneously. That is fine but since missions are so repetitive, it swiftly becomes a tiresome act. Mission. Haven under attack. Mission. Cut scene, special timed mission. All within 4 hours of in-game time.
      * Lack of information. The mutation reports are a fine workaround but they do not root out this problem. I remember finding out that the Pure has some real armor when I went to help my Anu friends from an attack done by them and realized mid-mission that only one of my soldiers can damage the Pure. Had a warning before the first Pure encounter been presented to me, I would have chose weapons differently.
This no information aspect is very bad alongside with the DLCs. There are a lot of things going on simultaneously and as a first timer you have no idea what to prioritize. At the upper-left part of my screen I see the most important missions but anyway... Should I prioritize Kaos Market missions? What to do with the Pure? Should all havens be protected? What happens if you don't attack a nest right away? You try to do everything because you have no idea and the game becomes a grindy torture-chamber of same-esque missions.
      * Atmosphere. Bought the game last year but quit after 3-4 missions. Now I went much further but felt the same. The game lacks atmosphere. Comparing it to XCOM2, Bradford can be annoying but their random discussions with Tygan and Chen in the Skyranger make the whole thing feel real. Or the music. Good music to keep you immersed then scary music when there is a fight. You need that extra immersion otherwise the experience becomes way too dry.
*Diplomacy. I mostly like it but it has way more potential. Outsourcing exploration, weekly market deals, recruitment camps, enemy faction sabotaging you, a bit of trash talking. Now it feels like you do things for us, we give you tech. Accept this mission. Here, even more tech.
*Way too hard to get rookies.
*Some blue screens here and there but not too frequently.
*Air fight feels like a game from the 90's.
      * Not necessarily an important thing but vehicles drive like my grandma after two bottles of whiskey.

So the mist is effectively the Avatar Project in XCOM2?, Ah that sucks, I was really gonna play through this game and take my time with it, seems I can't even do this with Phoenix Point... Only completed the First mission then decided to look for tips to help, to find out there is a Mist that is quite similar to the Avatar Project... I'm disappointed, I thought this was gonna be different, but ultimately, it's just the same as Xcom2, I hate anything to do with having to essentially rush. Maybe if there was another mode added without this 'Mist' I'd play, but not until there is, I can't see myself playing. Luckily I saw this on Xbox Game Pass so it was worth a shot. Fell short because of the Mist and the customisation for troops suck. Though I must admit the mechanics and the fact you actually can kill someone at point blank range is what makes this better than Xcom, so I have to say well done with all of that, just please make a few changes and I'd be very happy to play through and buy all DLC, I was gonna buy behemoth edition, rather than play for free on Game Pass to support Devs... You know what, I'll go ahead and buy anyway because I see very good potential in Phoenix Point, I just hope there can be a few changes to make it spectacularly better than Xcom.

0:46 Why PP, why do you both allow to teleport weapons across the globe AND require to travel to any haven you wish to trade with or recruit from? This is so jarring. Personally, i'd like for any transfers(men and equipment alike) to go on a cooldown that would represent shipping time. A small icon of a cargo plane crawling across the globe would be welcome but not necessary, i mean in 1995 game there wasn't any and it still is a better system than what you have here.

The biggest mistake of this game was last minute changing the beta design to what it is now.
Beta: stylised cool unit portraits and units that actually look like military
Now: shitty looking portraits and units that look like Power Rangers roleplayers.
Beta: gritty and hopeless feeling designs and portraits
Now: not sure it wants to be uplifting and lighthearted or dark and realistic
Beta: Armor looked cool and also kinds realistic
Now: looks ridicilous maybe aside Jericho faction.
Also some good enemy designs that are missing and the randomized city System is just broken. It makes horrible looking cities with all stuff nonsensically placed all over. I mean what went wrong????
