He IS a good boy, but isn't he on a grooming leash to hold him in place? Still, Grizzly put up with a LOT during this video and was calm the whole time!
Hey make more Doodle videos. This was immensely helpful. Nobody ever taught me like this video so she ended up needing to be shaved. It changed her coat and now it’s much more difficult to brush. I brush her at least every other day with the slicker brush, but apparently I was doing it wrong. So again thank you.
A reputable breeder would have shown you exactly how to take care of the coat. They wouldn't want their puppy going to someone who doesn't know the importance of upkeep, how to, and how often. Unfortunately, there isn't any reputable breeders for doodles.
@@ambermidyette3400 Really?? you are going to be one of those people. The breeder we got my doodle girl from discussed many things about doodles with me before we brought her home and afterwards. So STOP your doodle hate.
@@theirmom4723 Many do not. I did not say that your breeder personally didn't. Also, I don't hate doodles... I am strongly against backyard breeders that produce any breed or mix.
Aw I also have a F1b doodle! He looks like my girl. I adopted her 5 mos ago and she had to get shaved because of matting from previous owners. I've been brushing her several times a week since, in layers down to the skin like you showed, I'm so glad I've been doing it correctly! I just went through her coat to check some areas you mentioned and found some matting in some places I wasn't realizing. I will be trying the cornstarch trick. She is getting groomed next week for the first time since I got her, here's to hoping I did it all right and she doesn't need a shave. Wish me luck! Thanks for the tips!
Every Doodle owner should watch this video. I look after a few Doodles and only one followed these same instructions. The rest always bring their dogs with mats close to the skin.
I'm thankful my groomer (well the owner of the place) finally told me to look into how to brush her. I appreciate the feedback, just wish she would've told me sooner than 5 years in! It could've saved everyone some trouble. Good to know now though at least.
Thank you for this! I’ve always been afraid that a slicker brush would hurt because it seems like it pulls the dog’s hair. I appreciate the great demonstration!
This was super helpful. We recently adopted a 9 month old goldendoodle. 2 weeks in we took her to be groomed and she came back shaved. We were devastated. NOW WE KNOW.
I used to pray on my doodle getting super curly hair like this dog, now that I realize he has more of a wavy/straight/poodle coat I say it’s like a blessing in disguise because of the brushing process not being as bad lol
Same! Mine ended up with a wavy coat and I am super thankful for that after watching this video. I thought the curly coat was the key to less shedding but I am also lucky there because my guy only sheds when I brush and it's minimal!
Hey Brooke - thank you so much for taking the time and effort to produce this excellent, easy to understand and follow, video tutorial ob the proper way to brush a doodle/poodle. Your demonstration and comments throughout on the particular areas to watch out for are invaluable for me, as a novice and new owner of a poodle. Thanks for your dedication to this field.
Right! Like they really just need to brush and comb out the dog’s hair while the dog is wet and has shampoo on its fur. This way, its easier to comb through and doesn’t hurt the dog.
Thank you making this helpful video that we can share with our customers! Our groomers are often explaining the importance of proper coat care to our doodle owners, but this video is easy to follow along and super informative!
Wow, so much patience and firm grip at the same time. I admire all of you choosing doodle. I´m in love with standard poodles, but still not sure I want to spend so much time by shaving them every month and brush every week (in short clip). Wich seems ridicoulously lazy comparing to this brushing of goldendoodle. And those paws! Jeeez that looked hell not comfortable to walk outside with.
Great video and great instructions! I think many doodle owners and wanna-be doodle owners have no idea how much brushing is involved. It isn’t bad if you keep up with it, but keeping them long gets to be a chore.
What an awsome and good doggo. It was more calm than my 5 year old son is at the barber lolz Would love to see some goldendoodle grooming styles for wavy long coats.
Our goldendoodle has the same type of coat. It mats so so quickly, you really need to spend a lot of time brushing it. I'll definitely try the cornstarch! :)

As an owner of 2 doods, I try to do as much research as possible for my loves! Awesome cornstarch tip!❤ Also, you look like the female lead character from Jurassic World, but as a brunette!🙂
This is the best, most informative, instructional video I have seen. The others I have watched were not as helpful? Question; how often should I brush my dog?
Thanks for this informative video. Our GoldenDoodle, Baylee, also an F1B like Grizzly, is almost 4. We’ve recently built a new home and moved, and found a good groomer just a few blocks away. I bought the slicker and de-tangling comb, but now see I was applying them with an inefficient approach. So thanks for the correction! Also, I was not aware of how to use cornstarch as an option to help untangle her mats. So, “bonus”! My one question is: how often in between grooming sessions should I be brushing Baylee? She’s very comfortable with the handling process and pretty much stands still for the duration. I’m just wondering about frequency of brushing. Every day? Every other day? Once a week? Etc. She’s an indoor dog for the most part, takes walks twice a day and has a small yard to play in. Dog park days are few to none in summer/winter, two to four times a month in cooler seasons. Grooming schedule is 6 to 8 weeks, maybe up to 12, depending on the cut and condition of the coat. Just need to get an idea of frequency of brushing between grooming sessions. Thanks.
There is a difference between mattes and curls. I feel like some groomers use the terms interchangeably, however, curls and tangles are very different in the cause, as well as how to brush through them.
Thank you for this video. I have a two-year-old F1B as a service dog. He doesn't like being brushed and I definitely haven't been doing it right. Luckily he has a much looser coat that doesn't mat as easily, but it's still happened. I will try cornstarch on him. I would love a video on how to get a dog used to brushing when they don't like it.
Thanks for the tip about cornstarch. I have a Bichon frise and this is the first time I’ve heard about about using it to help with brushing. I will try it today

Thank you for this excellent tutorial. Cornstarch for tangle, thanks for that tip. I have a Bernedoodle, and due to the cost I am trying to groom her myself. Would you suggest a nail grinder for toenails rather than taking the chance of a nail clipper and a bleed? Thanks for any info on grooming. Judy
Thank you for such an informative and comprehensive informative video! We have an 8 week old goldendoodle and I will begin getting him use to grooming before his first appointment at ~14 weeks. I want to purchase a grooming table as he is a standard size and will ultimately be a big boy. I could really use your advice in this…What should I look for in a good sturdy table?
XXX Good Video. My dud is 2.5 yrs old. We learned to groom him. It takes LOTS of patience on the dog & (especially, you). We found a wonderful matting comb, better than slickers. Yes, corn starch works well.
Very nice video! Really well done. Thank you so much for going tip to tail with the instructions. We have a Lagotto Romangnolo and this looks like a perfect way to keep his matting down to a minimum between grooming visits.
Thank you for this. My doodle is very poodle-coated but not as much this dog. I brush with the slicker and the metal comb. She is 12 weeks old and will not sit still. Any tips for how to teach her how to stand still when I brush her?
Hi Stormy, I would recommend putting a leash on your puppy so that they can’t move away. When the dog is wiggling continue to brush her and the moment she stands still stop brushing and give her a treat. They learn quickly that wiggling or fighting doesn’t get rewarded but good behavior does! Good luck and remember to remain calm. Keep talking to a minimum as it can excite the puppy.

We had the most wonderful groomer for our baby’s entire life and we adored her but she recently had to stop working due to a major health issue. I don’t know if I will be able to trust another groomer like we trusted her. Gracie has been groomed every 4 weeks her entire life and I am seriously thinking of keeping her much shorter and doing it myself. I am not looking forward to grooming her, I always tipped very good and felt my groomer earned every penny.

Hi my Goldendoodle is 7 months old and he hates brushing. When we try to brush he starts biting, how do we work with that. Nice video very informative.
2 moth ago I found a stray standard Poodle . His coat was horrible matted the groomer had to shave him down to his skin except for his face and ears . His hair is growing out nicely and enough to be able to brush him , but he won't have it I can't keep him still and I don't have a table like yours . He was estimated to be about 5yrs old I would have figured he'd be use to brushing , any advice? Thank you so much for the tutorial I have learned a lot .
Any dogs with a longer coat need the same technique for brushing. You must part the hair down to the skin and then brush downwards from the part. It’s called Line Brushing and all dogs with a longer coat need their hair brushed this way and you always want a slicker brush and a comb for proper at-home brushing in between grooms and you want to make sure you brush them 2-3 times per week and get them groomed every 5-7 weeks to maintain a long coat!
Hello, Thank you for the informative video. Do you leave the corn starch in the hair? Also in there anything that you put on the doodle once you are done brushing through the hair like leave in conditioners or oils etc?? Thank you!
Wow…. Grew up w poodles when I was younger, now a golden doodle owner and boy am I lucky never had any of those issues w the poodles and the doodle I can go maybe 3 days without brushing his curls are not as kinky and just alround nice to brush and he likes being brushed
Hi l love your video, we have a year and a half Cockapoo he’s been groomed since we got him every 2 months and every groomer says he’s so good and such a good pup to work with, but when I go to groom him he’s doesn’t like it so I was wondering can you help me and I would love to get one of the grooming poles with the attachment that holds his head he’s such a love and I know that would help us both so much!!
Did I hear do you say Kyra at the end?! That’s my daughters name👍👍 also great video thank you so much. I am combing my dood ight now watching it. He goes to the groomer today. He’s really good with them
Quick question: What if you can bring the metal comb through the fur one way but when you comb backwards it doesn't go through? Do you need to brush more or if it goes through the direction the fur grows you're ok?
My doodle will NOT cooperate with being brushed. He is also an f1b and I have never tried the corn starch trick. I'm going to give it a shot and see if it helps him. We had to shave him down 3 weeks ago so hopefully I can turn things around. Thanks for the tips!
I am getting a doodle and watching this to learn how to care for her coat. I have a question If you add a detangler leaving conditioner on the coat first and then try to brush will it make the process easier? And the leave-in conditioner you're talking about do they make them specifically for pets or are you talking about ones that humans use?
Hi Stephanie, They do make detanglers specific for dogs. A popular one is called The Stuff which you can purchase on Chewy. Another one I’ve heard groomers raving about is Marsh Mello detangler.

Hi my Goldendoodle is 7 months old and he hates brushing. When we try to brush he starts biting, how do we work with that. Nice video very informative.
Excellent video. Thank you so much. More grooming videos please. Cutting and trimming a doodle would be appreciated.
I have a F1b 4 ½ year old doodle. Rosie. I loved your video. Very well explained. Do you have a video on how to blow dry them? Thanks.
Love it! Could you do a Bichon Frise or Havanese next?
Any dogs with a longer coat need the same technique for brushing. You must part the hair down to the skin and then brush downwards from the part. It’s called Line Brushing and all dogs with a longer coat need their hair brushed this way and you always want a slicker brush and a comb for proper at-home brushing in between grooms and you want to make sure you brush them 2-3 times per week and get them groomed every 5-7 weeks to maintain a long coat!
Thank you so much for this absolutely perfect video! 😃
Awesome ! Can you teach us how to use the corn starch to detangle?

Hello,
Thank you for the informative video.
Do you leave the corn starch in the hair?
Also in there anything that you put on the doodle once you are done brushing through the hair like leave in conditioners or oils etc??
Thank you!

Very Very Helpful Video.
Loved your video!!! Can you do a video of how to blow dry a doodle mix, like a goldendoodle?
Do you recommend the same technique for an F1?
Clinton Bowers yes it’s the same for every dog..
He’s really good with them
This video helped me so much! Thank you!
Quick question: What if you can bring the metal comb through the fur one way but when you comb backwards it doesn't go through? Do you need to brush more or if it goes through the direction the fur grows you're ok?
Great video - thank you so much.
Hi Stephanie,
They do make detanglers specific for dogs. A popular one is called The Stuff which you can purchase on Chewy. Another one I’ve heard groomers raving about is Marsh Mello detangler.
