I have never posted a comment to you before, but I've been subscribed for a while. I wanted to tell you that I ordered everything for these casseroles at my Walmart and it was about 48.00 dollars. Anyway, it's just my husband and I here now . We made the Emchalda Casserole one night , and ate the left overs the next night and so on . So, actually 48.00 is going to make us two weeks of dinners. I learned about tater tot casserole when I worked for a non-profit, which served lunch at low cost to needy people. I think I was 50 years old. I love it and use mixed vegetables and cheese. I'm from Wisconsin. We put cheese on everything.
I just hit the big 5 9. I have heard of tater tot casserole. I LOVE tater tots. I have never eaten tater tot casserole. I don’t make many casseroles. I do make things like unstuffed cabbage or unstuffed peppers. And I guess fajitas bowls and egg roll bowls are kinda casseroles.
@@Beth-zh8fci have eaten tater tot casserole with green beans and have also had tater tot casserole with cooked carrots as the veg. I never thought about corn but that would be great!
Sadly they arent as good as they used to be. I had one that lasted 15 years, it broke and I relplaced it with the same one. It broke in 4 months, and it happened a second times as well. I gave up and moved onto a different brand.

The only thing you need to remember to make a good casserole is mom's rule of 5. And that is: one meat, one carb, one vegetable, one soup and one cheese. Cook the meat, mix all together, bake at 350 for 30 minutes. 😊
5:16 I have a Tupperware can opener. Zyliss used to make one with the same mechanism. It separates the top instead of cutting it. Love that style. No sharp edges and top fits back on. 😁
Zoiks! Tupperware changed the opener a little and it is $47.95 on Amazon. 😳 Mine is almost 19 years old but looks and works great. I also did not see a similar one for zyliss. OXO probably has one for half the price. I really love my Tupperware can opener.
Las Palmas Enchilada Sauce. Before it was sold it it Texas I would bring it home in my carry on luggage. That was always a treat for the X-ray machine. ha ha. I have never had Tater Tot Casserole. But I have made your (grandfather's) Chicken and Rice Casserole and it is a winner. OXO is my favorite can opener. Still sharp and easy to use. Thanks Christine. Have a great week.
I am 54 and have never had Tator Tot casserole. I had a single parent mom raising my brother and I; She was also a teacher. We had to live frugal. But my mom did not like casseroles. Neither did my kids, when they were young. Now as adults they are learning why I live frugal. Their father though as an adult he could eat what ever he wanted (kind of a king of the castle thing). He often buy his take out/junk food when we were married. My older son is currently following in his foot steps on this. He eats out or has delivery almost every day because he doesn't like cooking. My younger son learned quickly and is good with the two of us sharing the cooking responsibilities now and only eating out/take out once a week.
NM girl here! Hatch green chile is the best. Fun fact: when asked what kind of chile you want here they ask red, green or Christmas. Guess you’re a Christmas fan! ❤️💚
Pampered Chef can opener is the best! I've used mine for 20 years!! Yes, I said 20 years!! Mom of 5 boys here (6 with the hubby) sooo, I'm always cooking!!!
Love the recipes that do not have PASTA. My daughter and I cannot eat a lot of pasta or bread. Will be trying these for sure. Can you please do more of these with out pasta? Love your channel.
I bought the Good Cook can opener on Amazon nearly 10 years ago and it's still going strong. As a person who's talented at cutting herself, the safe cut feature is the best part!
I second Swing Away - most thrift stores you can find them and they are great. Only minor complaint, my old ones that are like 15 years old, no issues (maybe a little rusty) but I bought a 2nd brand new one for our RV trailer, and the plastic/silicone cover on the handles (its just the handles that have a cover, the can opener is completely metal) slides off easily - I used crazy glue and glued them on and no issues.
came here to recommend Swing away can opener too. My mom always had one, then my hubby and I had that same one .so prob about 30 yrs old . I found one at Marshalls about 8 yrs ago that was labeled easy crank swing away and that changed my life! Carpal tunnel and shoulder problems don't even bother me opening cans now
MN here... This Tator tot Casserole is so different from the way I make it! I add green beans, corn, and peas. also 3 cans of mushroom soup with a splash of milk & LOTS of seasonings. (Italian, pleasoning, salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder) mix pour over beef and veggies. OCD the tots on top bake for 375* for 45 mins and then smother in cheese sometime kraft slices sometimes shredded cheddar. bake until melty 5-10 mins. It's the Bestest my MIL taught me SO GOOD!
You're right, we are all trying to lower our grocery bills. I've been trying to only buy meat on sale since it changes every week. Also love the BOGO deals. Every bit helps!
Just wanted to say thanks for ALL of your videos. Love the slow cooker ones the most but also love savings. I prefer your slow cooker videos over all of the other ones I have tried to watch on youtube but the others voices are so squeaky southern I cannot pay attention (and I was born in College Station aka AGGIELAND, raised overseas but born in Texas) Thanks again!
Love this! 🩷 Thank you so much for the printable! This was perfect for me to share with my parents. I just (literally) moved them from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Montana. It’s been an insane 2 weeks. These are perfect to make and freeze for them. Thank you!
Swing-A-Way can opener. Make sure you get the heavier one. They last forever! Been using this for longer than I can remember. Thanks again for all the fun ideas! Christine
I stand by this!! My light blue one from Amazon has been going for 5 years and I only got it because I remember we had a kitchen aid can opener that lasted AGES when I was a child.
My favorite hand-cranked can opener is OXO Good Grips. I just bought my mom a second one. Her first one lasted a good 25+ years. It’s so ergonomic, and is a really sturdy, reliable kitchen essential for me!
I’ve had can openers from OXO and Pampered Chef and liked them but I LOVE my Tupperware can opener. My aunt was a consultant and gave me one a few years ago. This thing is amazing! Very low profile but super easy to use and even though the body and handles are plastic, it’s solid.
Loving these recipes. I wish there was a cookbook of all these kinds of quick “busy mom” recipes but you always just see books with recipes that have this long list of ingredients and trendy dishes that you might try once but could never be an every day thing. Love the taquito idea. I would have never thought to try that. Probably still not the healthiest dinner in the world but it still looks great. Definitely going to try that.
Thank you so much. My husband & I don’t have kids yet and my mom and step dad are empty nesters. We have been talking about making casseroles this fall/winter and sharing them to cut food cost/waste. These are great ideas to get us started! Also, I’m so glad your finger is better.
👏👏👏👏👏 a cooking video. Getting back to your roots with a cooking video, smple recipes that families will love. I found your channel during 2020. I loved the weekly budget cooking videos. I think you maybe had 30,000 subscribers. Thanks for the cooking video.
Your chicken and rice cassarole is similar to a favorite of my family. The original called for a can if french onion soup, souo can if parboiled (converted) rice, 1 can of water, bone in chucken pueces arranged on top, can of cream of chicken soup spread on top of chicken. Civef with foil, bake at 375 1.5 hours. Uncover bake snother 25 minutes. I often.make it with dried onion soup mix instead of canned.
I have an OXO Good Grips Lock & Go Can Opener that I absolutely LOVE. Yes, it's plastic, but it's also *OXO*. I've had it for probably 15-16 years at this point, with absolutely no issues!
I grew up on Tator Tot Hotdish here in Minnesota. It was basically just like yours, except with corn added. Now I add a large can of mushrooms, and I season the tots with garlic powder and smoked paprika. So many good versions out there I’ve tried. Taco, pizza, bacon cheeseburger, sloppy Joe, and even a breakfast version. All so good and easy! Perfect for a crowd too. Great video once again, thank you! ❤️
❤❤❤ My favorite can opener is from Pampered Chef. And no, I'm NOT an associate/salesperson. But I went thru 4 in a couple of years before I tried theirs, and have had the same one for years! 😊
I’m from southern New England over 60 and I’ve never had tater tot’s of any kind. And my first casserole that I made was probably around 35. My mom never made anything like that. I’m going to try the tater tot casserole. ❣️
@susanmolnar9606 Back in the 40s and 50s I don't recall casseroles. The only thing my mother cooked close to a casserole was goulash. We never had spaghetti with meatballs or meat sauce. It was just that era.
@@sharonoldham4374 My mom was from Germany and my dad was from Hungary right before the start of the war. The closest thing we had was stuffed cabbage rolls! Lol.
❤I’ll be making everything in this great video on “Casserole Sundays “💥 OXO can openers are the best and last forever‼️ 😊I don’t believe in “picky eaters”…this is dinner, this is what we’re having. The first time I made tater tot casserole I was in my 40s and I just wanted a way to use up leftover chili. So I put tater tots and a casserole dish added corn to my chili put it over the top and topped it with cheese… It’s on repeat now❤️✨
Swing-a-way. My parents got theirs for their wedding and have had it over 30 years. I got 2 at a yard sale 10 years ago and will not get rid of them because they are soooo good.
Oh, this was the perfect time to find this video! It's getting cold out here in Tennessee and I love casseroles in the cold weather and when you really want to fire up the oven!
My enchiladas are super easy. I put a can of enchilada sauce in the crockpot with a pork tenderloin, onion, and poblanos. Shred it, fill it, bake it. Easy peasy. I am diabetic so I eat the meat over cauliflower rice and the family has the tortillas. I don't think I have ever actually had tater tot casserole.
Don’t know if you’re interested, but Mission makes Carb Balanced tortillas that have only 4 net carbs per tortilla. These are soft taco sized, and 70 calories per tortilla. They also make a small, street taco size that is ZERO NET CARBS. I love them. They were part of my weight loss mission (I’ve lost 100+ lbs without surgery, just changed my diet). The two brands that make these low carb tortillas are Mission and another called Guerrero. I highly recommend them!
@@InterruptingCow Thanks! I do use those a lot too. I am curious to do a side by side comparison of blood glucose 2 hours after the carb balance and the regular to test that theory of net vs total carbs on myself.
@@citygal2198 Definitely! It really helps with staying full longer and not having those sugar drops. That is the best part. I LOVE not getting hangry 2 hours after eating anymore.
I love my oxo brand can opener, I just happened to find in those grab bags at the thrift store. I also got a pair of titanium desk scissors in that same bag. ❤❤ Instead of enchilada sauce, I thin out salsa with broth or water. ( red, chunky, Verde, your choice) Canned enchilada sauce is never the same as homemade..
I had never heard of Tater Tot Casserole until I moved to Texas at age 51. So, to answer your question, I was around 54 when I first made It! Thank you for all the yummy recipes! 😋 Love from Texas ❤
Favorite hand can opener, Pampered Chef! We have 2. Have gave so many as part of housewarming gift baskets. Everyone loves them. Also highly recommended their mix & chop.
Oooh must try that enchilada fake bake! For the chicken parm, using breaded chicken tenders is another great option. I had a bunch left from a party and made that casserole with them and it was amazing.
Never had Tater Tot Casserole and I’m 52. I’ll be making this one later this fall! Broccoli is excellent in the chicken and rice casserole. I just made a chicken fried rice casserole. It was pretty tasty.
Thanks Christine! Seen you make this chicken and rice dish many times and I’m finally trying it tonight for dinner. I’m trying to clean out my pantry, having a surgery on a few months and I won’t be able to eat much, so getting rid of it all now. I didn’t have a can of cream of mushroom soup but I do have some cup of soups, so used those up! I just fixed them with water and milk and reduced the water added. Hopefully it works well. Also added some chopped mushrooms, because they needed to be used.
I can’t believe how many people have never tried tater tot casserole!! 😱😱 I’ve been craving tater tots and you’re the 3rd person in 2 days to have this so it must be a sign! 😄😍🥰
My favorite can opener is a Tupperware brand that does a smooth edge. But I would suggest going to the thrift store to see if there is an all metal option!
The can opener I am loving that we recently purchased is from Cutco, it comes with lifetime warranty and it has a magnet that if your lid falls in you can just pull it out with the magnet. Love the LMTN sponsor. And never had tater tots, casseroles are not a thing in our home. Also, really enjoyed seeing you use Hex-clad, i have been using hexclad for over 10 years and love them.
I love my Pampered Chef can opener; had an electric one too, but never used it. I recently got rid of a bunch of kitchen stuff (yard sale), and sold the electric. PC is the best. I love the casserole recipes, and plan to try them soon. Thanks for sharing them with us.
Thank you for the shopping list on these recipes. I have made approximately 3 of them (with how of the others) and they are so good and will be repeated! Thank you for these!
You are a such good cook. When making pasta casseroles (or rice), we cook it separately and throw it in at the end. Also, we are doing so much shredding and freezing veggies and cheese when it comes in from the store and that helps us too.
honestly, my favorite can opener is one from pampered chef. It's the kind that doesn't leave sharp edges but releases the glue instead. I freaking LOVE the enchilada recipe!!!
Swing a way can opener...I have had mine for 15 years so far...just bought one for my daughter-in-law and she loves it....I just throw mine in the dishwasher every so often...Amazon has them...just type in Swing A way can opener....there you go!! Love the recipe...Meat ball and rice is my favorite...
Hey! Thanks for leaving the total price!!!! I was thinking I wonder how much these meals cost and then there was the answer! 😊 How thoughtful. Love it.
Swing Away were the best can openers, but I couldn't find them anymore, so I got an Oneida manual can opener. Love it! I've had it for many years and it is awesome.
I have a can opener from QVC, and it uncrimps the lids instead of slicing them. I LOVE IT!! My cousin sliced her hands open with the ones like yours so my mom went shopping and found this one. I’ve gotten them now for all my cousins kids! It’s a Kuhn Rikon
As a Minnesota who has eaten my fair share of Tater Tot Hotdish, I have personally found that cream of chicken is much better in it than cream of mushroom! Lol
I have never posted a comment to you before, but I've been subscribed for a while.

@@sharonoldham4374 My mom was from Germany and my dad was from Hungary right before the start of the war. The closest thing we had was stuffed cabbage rolls! Lol.
@@susanmolnar9606 I’m from New England to and I did not grow up on any type of casserole but I’m willing to try it
❤I’ll be making everything in this great video on “Casserole Sundays “💥 OXO can openers are the best and last forever‼️ 😊I don’t believe in “picky eaters”…this is dinner, this is what we’re having. The first time I made tater tot casserole I was in my 40s and I just wanted a way to use up leftover chili. So I put tater tots and a casserole dish added corn to my chili put it over the top and topped it with cheese… It’s on repeat now❤️✨
Thank you so much for the free recipes!! Love, love your content!!!
Swing-a-way. My parents got theirs for their wedding and have had it over 30 years. I got 2 at a yard sale 10 years ago and will not get rid of them because they are soooo good.
Loved it all! Especially the end!
btw I am 61 and have never had tater tot casserole! going to try it
Oh, this was the perfect time to find this video! It's getting cold out here in Tennessee and I love casseroles in the cold weather and when you really want to fire up the oven!
I grew up with 3 main casserole dishes! Tater tot casserole, Spaghetti casserole and chicken poppyseed casserole ❤
Favorite Can Opener… Swingaway brand. It lasted me 30 years !!
If you eat some veggies and a little protein before starting on carbs, blood glucose doesn’t go up as much.
Instead of enchilada sauce, I thin out salsa with broth or water.
Yay! Recipes!
The Zyliss Magican is my favorite can opener! I’ve had mine for 5 years, it’s still going strong.
Favorite hand can opener, Pampered Chef! We have 2. Have gave so many as part of housewarming gift baskets. Everyone loves them. Also highly recommended their mix & chop.
OXO can opener is great, very sturdy. We’ve had ours for approx 24 years! Big comfortable handles too.
Great a food episode again , will be trying some of those.
Great new recipes, Christine!🎉 I really needed these!🙌
Oooh must try that enchilada fake bake!
For the chicken parm, using breaded chicken tenders is another great option. I had a bunch left from a party and made that casserole with them and it was amazing.
That's what I do, too. lol
I have had a kitchenaid manual can opener for 15 years and still love it. Your casseroles look great.
I have a handheld Kitchen Aid can opener and I love it. It's got a magnet on the top to fish the lid out if it falls in the can.
Swing Away can opener, most definitely!
I'm 45 and have still never had tater tott casserole. (and, I grew up in the mid-west!!) All these look really yummy, thank you for sharing. :)
Pampered chef can opener is my ONE splurge with PC. Love it!
I can’t believe how many people have never tried tater tot casserole!! 😱😱 I’ve been craving tater tots and you’re the 3rd person in 2 days to have this so it must be a sign! 😄😍🥰
My favorite can opener is from Pampered chef! It’s fantastic!
Thanks for the great recipes. I love simple
Favorite can opener, Swing Away
I've had mine for 47 years! Wouldn't use anything else. 😊
I love her casserole videos. I'd love to see her take on some breakfast casseroles.
Hey! Thanks for leaving the total price!!!! I was thinking I wonder how much these meals cost and then there was the answer! 😊 How thoughtful. Love it.
Damn Christine, this video is 100% a winner.
Lol
Mn girl too. Yes agree on the cream of chicken!!
Old El Paso enchilada sauce is a go-to for me. My mom used it and it hits!
