I have a 17 yr old granddaughter and she’s starving when she first gets out of bed!! I’m 58 and I don’t really remember how my appetite was at that age but I don’t ever remember being hungry in the mornings. I’m a breakfast for supper type of chick😂
My son bought strawberry protein powder, and he did not like it. I made your bars with strawberry protein. It was like having a PB&J. 😊
I have some older strawberry powder that I may try. Hmm.
My plant based protein bars-
Base:
2C oats (I use old fashioned)
1 C peanut butter
1/2 C honey
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
I add mini chocolate chips to mine and a shake of chia seeds. You can add in just about anything! I love these while nursing, the oats and protein and fat kept the hanger away. I also like doing the mini freeze dried tiny marshmallows to make like a s'mores bar. I press mine into an 8x8 pan and cut 5x5. Kid approved!
Thank you!!
I have never, in my 69+ years of life, ever trained for, nor run any kind of marathon. I have a sister who is 4 years older than me, who runs marathons all the time. She says that running keeps the crazies away. I think she runs about 1000 miles a month. I need to get moving. Oh, but I do walk!
Great! Good for you for walking!
You never see people smiling when they run, but they do when they walk. Happy exercise vs not happy. Your call
Walking is actually better for your joints at this age. Love walking!
This made me laugh, my sister is a marathon runner and cyclist, she always says… “you need to start running “ and every time I ask her “why is someone trying to harm me “ …running is so nit my thing….
I love walking, it’s a daily must.
Your meal prep is superior to anyone else’s. Your kindness is always there, but most of all I think you are one of the funniest influencers out there. You’re a hoot and I wish I could be your friend. You’re the best. Train hard and make us girls proud. Love 💕 your channel.
Love 💕 and Hugs from Kansas. 💙💙💙
Thank you so much!
I appreciate this! I was thinking today about how I need to stop watching UA-cam bc the influencers don't seem to be affected by the economy. Most of us can't afford to shop like they do and it's depressing. I can definitely get behind this!! Thank you!
You should check out See Mindy Mom as well as Christine, she is always doing budget videos and is extremely helpful on giving ideas for food with various budgets. All of her videos are very realistic with the current economy. Her and Christine are my top two channels for budget videos, both are so hopeful.
For peanut butter, honey and other sticky ingredients, if you measure by weight, you can just add it to the mixing bowl. Zero the scale, between each ingredient. Easier, and quicker cleanup!
This is perfect timing! My son and his lady will be having a baby any day now and I am going to be helping feed them for a few weeks!
Congratulations! 💖💙
That is a GOOD mother in love❤❤
Kim Wads love her and you !!!! And Our Tribe of many, Sarah and Solo!!!
Your cooking videos are my favorite ones! Your banana bread is the bomb 😋
That banana bread really is the best one!
If your son will eat cream of wheat, you could make a savory version. It will help fill him up.
Side note: When my son had his wisdom teeth removed and was coming off of anesthesia, he kept referring to me as hey special person, demanded that I hold his hand and must have told me 20 times that I had beautiful eyes 😂
So cute! He loves his Mama. 🥰
No chia for newly extracted teeth!! They can get stuck in the sockets and cause infection!
Good to know! Try hemp seed powder for protein!
I was just thinking the same thing. I eat chia seeds in my oatmeal or yogurt and know they can get stuck.
No training for me, but I love meal prepping like this because when my athletic girls(4 of them) come home from practice, etc) they are all starving. So it’s like what can I give them that’s quick and filling and not junk. Even if it’s something that I have to reheat, I can do that while they shower. Also, great to pack a big cooler for a soccer tournament day as well. Much healthier and cheaper than hitting up the snack stands or food trucks. At least for the whole day. 😉
We have five daughters and they are hungry all the time!
Every Woman’s Marathon in Savannah is quickly approaching. I’m soooo hungry and soooo tired. Thanks for the snack tips!
I did a half marathon 15 years ago. Training started at the end of January for the race at the beginning of May. I was hungry all the time!!!
Two weeks before the race was to happen, I took a nasty fall and broke my wrist. Had surgery on Tuesday before the race on Sunday, and I did it with my arm in a sling and removable splint!!
That's completely hardcore!
I use the orgain plant based protein powder and it works great 👍🏼
Pomona's pectin is super low sugar if you'd like a different option! It calls for 1ish cups of sugar for 5 - 1/2 pint jars :)
Thanks for the tip!
I really empathize with your son. Had 6 teeth ( 4 wisdom) removed prior to braces. My go toos were mashed potatoes and gravy, milk shakes, pudding and creamed soups. My husband put a can of veg soup in the blender one time! Good luckvto your son!for the chia pudding, if you put seeds in the blender with the liquid it ends up smoother if your preference.
😂😂 I love the low sugar pectin ! We used to have all kinds of fruit trees, plums, peaches, apples, pears, apricot, grapes, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries!! I would use 2 to 2- 1/2 cups of sugar per batch and it was plenty!! Our 3 yr old grandson would eat it out of the jar and it tastes more like the fruit than the sugar! I didn't crush the fruit, left it whole. Yum, so easy!!!😍😍😍
Low sugar pectin was wonderful in my strawberry jam this year. I'm so jealous of all your fruit trees!!
Oh my God, those protein bars look awesome, I have seen you make them numerous times, but I am in need of significantly upping my protein after having major surgery and these would really help and fill me up. Thank you for your ideas and your videos, cannot wait to see when you do next.
I used to bicycle a lot and would take 3-5 week vacations bike camping. What I found was adding a fourth full meal to my routine worked and was easy to cut after the trip. What we'd usually do is get up have tea and something cold as we were packing up the camp. Then ride for a couple of hours and stop for breakfast because it was nice to sit down and have a hot breakfast and there are always specials.
I love Kimberly Whisk. So funny you added her snippet in here lol
My mom has always skimmed the foamy part off the top of her jelly and we eat that with fresh bread the day she made it. It’s like a reward for all the hard work 😂
😂 mouth boy. Love it! I play you while i work. Its like hanging out with a friend. 😂
Great Video 😍 I'm a 60 y/o and I cycle 200 miles a week regularly from April to November!LOL (usually in 3 rides of 70 to 80 to miles each) It has taken many years to dial in the nutrition - my food of choice during rides are Medjool dates and during the midway break on these rides I eat a Japanese sweet potato as well as drink plenty of water with electrolytes. Depending on the intensity, I will eat more of less of the dates. When I get home from these rides I will have a shower and a small meal with a protein and water shake then about 2 hours later I will have a larger meal. I have tried gels and bars and chews but they upset my stomach and the real food works well for me. Sometimes the day after the ride I will notice an increase in hunger.
Yep. I experience “the hunger”. Currently running 100km a week or more for a race prep. I easily eat
4-5 meals a day to keep up with the calories. It’s a genuine thing. I am burning out on meal ideas so looooving your cideos
I LOVE your channel. You really help me! Thank you.
That Nothing Soup is amazing! I used it as a base and added some mixed veggies that needed to be used and some spinach. Amazing flavor! Thank you!
I like the heel of a loaf of bread not in sandwich but just to eat but I like the end of home made bread
Homemade bread or banana bread ends as well as bread heels are totally my favorite!
These look like awesome recipes thank you!!
I just started training for a whole race series of 2 5ks, 2 5 milers, 2 10ks, 2 10 milers, and a half marathon. The hunger is so real 😆
Hiking and camping hunger is real. I used to work with kids in the woods 7 on 7 off...if I worked extra on my week off I wouldn't see the inside of a building for 21 days. It's really hard to consume enough calories when you are living outdoors if you're even slightly uncomfortable. You spend all your nutrition trying to regulate your temperature and stay hydrated.
It was not uncommon for me to squirrel away in my hammock after the days hike with my food bag and just shove food in until I fell asleep. Meal bars, granola, candy, jerky...all the salt, fat and sugar I could find before dinner. (Then dinner) And when I was on the way home from a week of that I would stop at the first gas station and buy a pound of lunch meat, eat it while driving home. And then order a pizza.
Times have changed and I can't eat like that anymore but it was fun while it lasted. hahahh!
I don't know if I have commented before, Christine, but Ioooooove your videos. My fav are the pantry cooking, cleaning it out style meal preps etc. that is exactly how I cook and I'm getting better at managing food waste for watching you but also just for fun. I work nights now, with a lot of down time. Your longer videos help me pace the night's activities. I know the beignet video by heart, I know most of the pantry cooking videos pretty well. Hahah love the way you scream at your food processor. And let's get you a shirt that says...."it'll be fine". Also hats off to us who know a little something about HEB. Woohoo!
I hope your kiddo is doing well with his wisdom teeth. He will be ready for something crunchy in a few days. How's Haley?
love watching you for all the money saving tips and fun stuff
Christine, you inspire the crap outta me!!! Thank you!!❤❤❤
I’ll definitely be trying out your peanut butter bars recipe! Also, a food scale will make your life so much easier in the kitchen, especially when using sticky ingredients! Use mine for everything! Life saver!!
You don't need a water bath canner. Any tall stockpot with a dish towel in the bottom will work, as long as you have an inch of water above the jars. :)
I’ve used my Instant Pot with the trivet on the bottom. I also use the adapter part on my vacuum sealer that fits multiple size canning jars.
Since I was a very young child I always loved the heel of the bread wrapped around a chunk of cheese…no butter. It was my lunch every day at school. My mother was so embarrassed that people would think we were paupers. To this day at 66 years old it’s still my favourite snack.
This siries actually could be on netflix so good produced, much gratitude
The heel is my favorite!! Toast it, add butter and jam? mmmmmm
Definitely going to make these bowls. Yum.
Good luck with Lotoja! I’m not a biker, but we love cheering on the teams at the start of the race. Lots of our neighbors participate and they love it! Thanks for the meal prep ideas and the protein packed ideas!
you don't get rid of me that easily, I am here for all your fabulous content 😍
Driscoll blackberry are always so goooood!!!!! they are sweet not tart!!!!!!
This is the first video I've seen of yours and boy am I grateful for the algorithm today. I was vibing with your personality and energy from the start, but you calling your son tooth boy sealed the deal. And the editing? *chefs kiss*. Especially the cameo from the woman across the room herself, Mrs. Kimberly Whisk! Off to stalk/binge your channel.
Welcome aboard!
Love these videos! I always feel Inspired to meal prep healthy meals after watching your videos ❤
Hey Frugal fit mum and friends 🇿🇦 love your videos ❤😊
I was very sceptical but someone suggested cutting onions on a piece of kitchen roll or a napkin and it really reduces the amount of burning/eye watering.
Having a bit of water (in a cup or bowl) close by also helps a lot. I've read that what burns the eyes is attracted to moisture, and your eyes are usually closest. I can't say it completely stops it, but it helps a lot.
Love the heel. And love canning everything. I so enjoy watching you
Hahaha... you make it sound so easy... you just run up and mountain and run down it. Kick butt and have fun.
The heel is the hard core piece of bread that you can pile on the goodies without it collapsing like those other wimps in the bag. 🍞
I love the heals also!!!🤗
You can do freezer jam instead of canning. Imo it tastes so much better than canned
That bean soup looked great. Usually see black beans or pinto. Looking forward to it
I made it last week with Orgain chocolate plant-based… tasted AMAZING!!! I have tummy issues with oatmeal so I replaced that with plain rice crispey’s too. Topped with mini choco chips! DELICIOUS! I seriously thought the flavor was better than whey!
Almost forgot to add: The texture of these bars is INCREDIBLE… sooooo smooth with a nice chew. 🎉
Their grass fed whey ready made drinks are great too!
I love your videos! Thank you for sharing.
currently training for my first 10k run ( I know it's nothing but it's a lot to me lol) and doing a lot of heavy weight lifting and cycling and the hunger is real lol
The jam looks delicious 😋
Wisdom tooth girl this summer and scrambled eggs and applesauce were very easy for her. Baked and mashed potatoes helped too. She had a head wrap thing that had two cold packs that helped with the swelling and then we used it to hold warm cloths for the heat.
I also love the Thrive smoky chipotle salsa!
Its better to wait to add salt or anything high in salt until the beans are mostly soft. The salt keeps the beans from softening.
Everything looks so yummy.
Great ideas will be doing a few of these recipes for my son x
Heel Lover Right Here!!! 💖💖
I have fresh sage and thyme in my garden. I should make some nothing soup! Tuna salad in lettuce wraps and soup! YUMMY and very, very inexpensive!
Thank you for the great ideas! I'd need to train longer than a month from now but it' sounds super cool! Maybe next year! 🤍
You had me at JAM! Have you made the freezer jam from that same pectin? It is AMAZING!
Make your instant pudding into protein pudding…first add unflavored protein powder to your milk and mix well, then add the protein milk to the instant pudding mix!
I mean… I could roll down the mtn😂….
Netflix marathon for me!
I’ve been loving the instant pot for dried beans. I can also control the sodium better than from a can.
I use my chia pudding to help keep me "regular". Add 1.5 Tbsp chia seeds & 1/2 cup of water to old jam jar, stir, put the top on and put in the frig overnight. Then I add 1/8 tsp to 1 tsp to my juice or lemonade. Store in fridge.
GREAT idea
My mother made all our bread when I was growing up!! Always made at least 2loaves so my dad, brother and myself could each have our favorite slice-the heal!!!!!
I love the bean puree for your son great idea .Your jam came out beautiful, and if I don't eat the bread heal I make my own bread crumbs. I can't eat too much protein because of kidney issues My crazy sports days are over My body is given out just finished chemo so recovering from that now my hair is starting to grow back what a journey that was . looking forward to your next video.
Stay strong and healthy! 💪💪🥦🍏🥑
I make many protein bars with plant based vanilla protein powder for my son. I get the Vega brand from Target. We don’t use rolled oats but oat flour with peanut butter, honey/syrup, coconut oil, vanilla and some mini choc chips. It has a very similar texture to a perfect bar. He has chosen to be a vegetarian so it’s been a fun challenge finding ways to add more protein to things.
I make breakfast bowls also. I add red + green pepper, onion, mushrooms, & salsa to mine. I also use sausage or bacon or turkey kielbasa depending on what I have. My favorite is turkey kielbasa....
omg was that your son on the bike? that was so close to the edge! lol. thanks for all the videos. i love them.
Love the music!!
Protein bars sound good. May try them. Even though they are high calorie it would help me when I'm working court and may not be able to eat lunch until 130 or 2pm. Because sometimes breakfast doesn't last. Breakfast bowls sound good too
Always buy your honey local! From the source is best. If you have to melt it, you know it's real and hasn't had water or corn syrup added. I buy 12 lb buckets from my local people at the roadside stand.
Speedy and Rougue for president!!!
I agree with you. The heels of the bread are the best.
And so, I learned a new word today. The *heel* of a (loaf of) bread. Never knew that, having lived in Northern America for a couple of years. :) In Swedish we call it 'skalk' , and yes, it is the best (depending on the bread, of course).
My family calls it "bread butts." 🤣🤣🤣
Mashed potatos cooked carrots and ranch. One of my goto soft foods.
I meal prep too because with 4 little kids in my house, I absolutely need it. When I come home from the gym, I’m usually so ready to eat but will get distracted and only make food for the kids. By the time I realized I haven’t eaten yet, it’s 4pm and then I’m eating only 1 meal.
I've been doing long gym sessions once a week (3+ hours) for weight loss, and the hunger kicks in on those days, along with the extreme sleepiness. I did a long session yesterday (incline walking, followed by 2 hour long water classes- aerobics and pilates). I left wanting all of the things shoved in my mouth. I'm hoping that when school resumes next month and I have 5 days free every week that I can bump up to at least 3 days of 3+ hour sessions with a mix of endurance, aqua, and resistance/weight training.
The heel of the loaf of bread is the best, especially if toasted!!
The crust is the best part of the bread, my husband knows to especially leave it for me on every loaf... he's a man who values peace haha
We love that foam on ice cream! Better than Smuckers Topping! 🍦🍧🍨❤
I just skim the foam off my jam before I jar it. I don’t water bath my jam. My great grandmother taught me to use food grade paraffin wax that you get at the grocery store. Melt it and pour about a quarter inch on top of your cooled jam. Let set, lid them and they are sealed. My jam will last about 4 years.
When I had my jaw wired shut, my mom made me thanksgiving purée shake 😂 mash potatoes, gravy and turkey. It was awesome!
Love the heel
Never waste the heel of the bread. My granddaughters fight over it.
I’ve made the peanut butter bars many times with pea protein powder and works just fine! 😊
I love thrive market. They make it easier to find stuff for the AIP diet!
Be sure to keep that Sure Jell insert. They’ve stopped putting them in the boxes!
I get so bored with my protein powders so thank you for including those in your fantastic scratch video
If you eat bread, heels are the best! Especially when the bread crust is your favorite.😅 Thanks for all the great recipe ideas, Christine!
Kimberly whisk is the best “jump scare”. 😂😂
You are definitely Superwoman!❤
Getting your wisdom teeth out is the perfect excuse to sit around and eat bowls of mashed potatoes... which is something I would love to do. :)
I'll take any excuse to eat mashed potatoes :)
Cheese mash and English gravy was my fave food growing up.
I agree. I had a final rhinoplasty to correct cleft palate and lip and Lord I was sick. When I could finally eat, my grandmothers mashed potatoes and gravy were glorious.
I don't can, but my mom did when I was growing up. I seem to remember her scooping the foam off and setting it aside for us to spread on our toast. It was a special treat that lasted a day or two.
My grandma did that to make plum jam without pectin. You cook it for i think 2 to 3 hours with only plum and sugar, probably 1:1 ratio and remove the foam.
Only works with fruits with enough pectin and while it works I wouldn't do that anymore today.
