i like the way you get your wood off the ground good idea using the blocks
Thanks! We had extra pipes, so we figured we would put them to use 😀
Thanks so much for stopping by 😊
You have to have the bleed screw where you fill it with oil open a turn or two or it won't work. Mine has a wing nut and just open it a bit and it'll split most anything you can throw at it.
Several have mentioned this. We did check it, but we're going to play with it a bit so see if something isn't causing an air or oil issue.
Appreciate the input 🙂
we are watching your video and when Jeff tried to slit that log a second time and it poped out I told Frankie he should have put the flat side down I didn't even get it out of my mouth and you said the same thing to Jeff LOL GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE
Lol - You're right! 😅

Been thinking about getting one of these for a while and after watching your video I'm going to look for a used older model that doesn't have the additional safety two hand requirement
Agreed, and good luck! They are hard to find - we haven't been able to get our hands on one.
Appreciate you following along 😊
As a mechanic, I suggest lifting the log and splitting the outside edge just like if you were using a maul on a large log. The other thing that would drive me crazy is the control valve with a auto return and a return spring inside the cylinder. I think I would put a stop on the arm , that’s a waste of time going all the way back. If you got two people one should be the feeder and one run the machine switching when one gets tired.
All good points! Appreciate the input!
My question is,why the hell do you need to split a log that small around. 😂
Well, since this was just to demonstrate the log splitter, we didn't feel we needed to get out anything too big. But also, we have a few little stoves that take only small pieces of wood.
Thanks for stopping by 😊
We have the same basic model (Homelite). Most everything on yours looks the same. It seems low on hydraulic oil which is not letting the cylinder complete a full stroke. Also would explain the jerkiness. Ours goes much closer, within a few inches, of the splitting wedge. We regularly split much larger logs!
Appreciate the input 😃
We ended up playing around with it and when all was said and done it seems to work perfectly once the temp warmed up. Not sure what fluid it came with (this was the first time we used it), but it appears to be temp sensitive. The whole week after this video, the temp outside was above 60 and it worked beautifully.
Thanks for following along 😊
I've been thinking about mating a heavy steel blade with a good hickory handle. I believe I will call it an "axe."
Lol - definitely faster 😀
Thanks for stopping by 😊
oh yep that will split some logs , work smarter not harder right
You're right! Thanks for following along 😊
I've never heard of the store named "DR" before.
Did we say "store"? So sorry... Online, and their brand items are AMAZING! We have the DR stump grinder, and my uncle has the DR trimmer/mower and it is a beast! 😃
I noticed the ram seems to stall around the same spot. Two things came to mind. First, is the Hydraulic oil filled up to the correct level, and is the air vent open when you are using it? After that, I'd say it's a dud
We did check both, but we'll look again. We were thinking we just got a bad one. Appreciate you taking the time to give us your thoughts. 😊
I have one different color, same factory. I've split 20"+ rounds on it. It's a beast for what it is. Something is not right with yours.
That's exactly our thought. And we get it, once in a while there is a lemon, it happens.b
Really appreciate you sharing your experience - makes us feel better knowing it's likely a "one off" situation. 😀
Well, you convinced me to not even accept one of these as a gift.
Thinking we got a bad one, but if we get another, it will be a gas powered... But that's a future purchase 😁
Really appreciate you stopping by 😊
Just by the way that returned ,I guarantee you don't have the vent open..
We checked both the air vent and the hydraulic fluid, but we're going to check again. Thinking there is simply something wrong with this particular one. Appreciate your input and we'll update you if we find what happened. 😊
Too Slow
We're think of playing with it again this weekend and work with the air and hydraulic to ensure we have everything just right. For now, yes -WAY to slow, but a lot of people have commented that we check these two things again. We'll make an update video if we find where the issue is.
Appreciate you following along 😊
