Dawn you are a common sense girl I was very curious what you had to say I just love to hear about all your little tips for frugal living and you are very inspiring
I think you are very organized. Heck, who makes folders for different types of mail? I would just throw them in a basket willy nilly. You do a good job running your household.
Tip: a tip I use often is to cook while I sleep. I cook dried beans, soups, entrees, stews, in my 2 crockpots overnight and dinner is done for a few days. 😊
@@deborahmaehs7604 I bought a second crockpot at the thrift store just for this purpose to cook overnight. One crockpot for soups and stews, one for cooking Entrees. My days of cooking over a stove 7 days a week are gone!
@@deebee6337 Thanks for the tip. We have two microwave ovens and use both of them daily. I cook one large item per week (such as chicken soup, beef casserole, etc.) then re-heat portion sizes in the microwave. We usually eat three meals and then freeze leftovers. There is always something ready to eat quickly at our house.
This morning my husband and son are working a side job for a neighbor and I’m playing MY music and I just cleaned out my front coat closet. I have a big bag of MY things to donate to our local thrift store. I need my husband to go thru his coats. He hasn’t worn most of the coats in there in ages. Taking a break to watch and listen to your video ! 👍🏻😊❤️
I am 70 and I have come to the point in life when I cannot 100% trust my memory for all the things I need to remember. I make notes and reminders which I put on the bench or the fridge. I also have a diary (in book form), plus a wall calendar. I find that by organising my life well, I don’t make as many mistakes. I am moving into a very small unit in a retirement environment at the end of the month, and while I have been downsizing my belongings, I have been messing around with a work schedule like the one you have. Monday, washing. Tuesday ironing and sorting etc., and I totally agree with you that keeping to a routine is the best way to get things done. Sharon from Australia 🇦🇺 🦘
Shopping once a month (which I have done) only gives you one opportunity to save on the 'specials'. Weekly shopping means four to five times the opportunity to save in any given month. Plus, as you have said Dawn, it gets us out of the house. Love your videos and all your tips! Many blessings from Canada! ❣❤
This works if you're a planner and you can stick to a list. Not if you're an impulsive buyer. It takes time to work on old habits and sometimes it's best to work with your habits than force something and trigger a bigger problem, aka over spending.
I made my husband a sign on a tin heart that I hung by the back door. It says "✔️Keys, ✔️Phone, ✔️Wallet *kiss*". Recently, I've had to add "✔️glasses" to the sign. 🤓❤
@@carolynm9798 lolol 🤣 That's great!!! You know I still have to be standing there with his lunch, to make sure he has everything... I usually also have to say something like "honey, you just grabbed my phone". But the sign works in theory. 🙃 He's usually running out of the house like Dagwood on the show Blondie lol
I've told my husband countless times he needed a purse 😂 He eventually gave in and I got him a backpack to keep in the car. He drives almost 4 hours a day to work and back.
I bring a pot of soup fixings to boil. and then I take it off of the stove top wrap in newspaper and towels.. by morning it will be fully cooked This uses less energy. This is a top from the women of Africa.. So that they did not have to walk so often for wood for fuel.. This really works.
I assign each day a chore and meal plan. These activities saves me time as well as reduce stress about what I will need to get done. Thanks for sharing.
I save the envelopes from mail coming in and use them to write out grocery list on outside of envelope. And place coupons inside envelope I am using for that grocery list. saves not having to purchase more new note pads for making grocery list.
I have nearly eliminated eating out doing all my cooking at home. Also, got rid of yard service and do that myself. Not thrilled about doing yard work but I can do it, 😂
I no longer can do yard work so I have planted rows and rows of perennials that do not have to be cut down in the fall.. Just before our leaves really start to drop. I spread out huge tarps secured by a few retaining blocks on each corner so that the leaves fall on the tarps and it is much easier to rake them up.. It makes it cheaper to hire somebody to rake those leaves.
I really like my grabbers (i'm short). When i go shopping i take a slim expandable back scratcher to reach things and a small magnifying glass so i can read the labels.
@@susanf4857 That is exactly why I have one because somethings are in places that are hard to retrieve. I don't use mine often but when I need it I am glad I have it!
I like your sofa. I think meal prep is good although time consuming. Its also very good way to keep eating healthy as if not prepared it's often when we turn to unhealthy take aways. I too take my lunch to work, sometimes on a day out too. That way I always have something to eat even if I don't need it & decide to eat out I can take what I don't use home for the next day.
Curbside pick up for groceries has been a lifesaver for me during the past 10 months as it forces me to stick to an online list of items and not make spontaneous purchases. It also saves time as well, as I can submit my order in the morning and pick up in a few hours, resulting in a total of 10 minutes round trip.
Every day when we get the mail, if we have junk letters, I shred them right then. Then on the night before trash day, I empty the shredder into my inside trash can so that all the shredded paper can go out into the large trash containers in the garage. I feel that's helped me, because the shredder can get really full before I realize it at times if I don't.
I’m sitting to move this month and found a grabber in the shed. It’s definitely coming with me on my move! A small step up sounds like a very good idea too! Sharon in Australia 🇦🇺 🦘
I think you're very organized. I don't feel that I have any tips right now. I'm going through boxes of beauty products of my sister-in-law to organize in her room and bathroom. My living room and dining room are stacked with items needing a home. It's helped my mental attitude to make a little progress every day. Great tips as always. Love to all, Linda 💕
@pom-momtina6254 0 seconds ago I feel you on the living room/dining room situation! My mess is upstairs, as I'm clearing out the little bedroom we've used as 'storage' and working on closets. Right now, it's more of an obstacle course of piles and boxes/bags as I sort things to take different places to donate. Slowly, but surely...
@@3TXSisters Same here! I HAD it all out of sight, but when I drug everything out to sort, now, it's just 'organized chaos'! Taking a load to Goodwill this week and another to a local church, so that'll help.. a LITTLE. Trying to focus on how great it will look when this stuff is cleared out :) We'll get there.... eventually :)
I've lived in my house 41 years, and, while the house is clean, if you open a closet, you're taking your life in your hands - LOL! I'm too old now to take that kind of chance! Trying to clear out stuff and get what's left organized, little by little. In the meantime, yes, it's a disaster zone, and I just want to hurry up and get it done, but I also still work, so time is limited. I start and stop and start again on my days off the next week. It's a process, for sure!
Great video! I think you're very organized and efficient. When it comes to the mail, I walk inside from the mailbox and walk straight to the trash can. I quickly sort through standing there and decide what is junk mail and what is to keep. The junk mail goes right into the trash can. Then the keeps go into the office. That may seem really simple, but I don't know why I never did that my whole life LOL That change definitely made one thing easier for me.
You are the most organized person I know. Congrats! I love my "grabbers"... so handy. Also, I like to decide on what to wear the next day. And by cooking ahead of time you don't have to do it every day and wash all the pots & pans & dishes every day. Great video, Dawn.
Cooking does take time, but waiting in line at the fast food place sometimes is about a 1/2 hour or so wait at lunch time! We prefer the taste of home cooking to any fast food place, and most all regular restaurants. You're right, fast food is yuck... and so expensive too!
Love all your organization! The meal prep is not only saving you money but also health. If you are hungry and don't have things ready or at least a plan, you tend to grab things that aren't good for you. The soaps, cleaners and such I have noted as Refills in my tasks.
