I got an inexpensive $30 bidet per your recommendation and I really love it. I also use an electric underblanket like you suggest -- also a great idea. It's so fun that it makes my bed so snuggly. Thanks for the excellent ideas.
I just bought a 9x12 shed kit at 0% 2 years. We then built an 8x8 lean to with all leftover building materials. We then enclosed the sheds with left over propanel. The only cost for the lean to was $13 of hurricane brackets and labor (I'm 71 and my husband is 80 so paying labor is now a fact of life). I just scrounged a couple tons of granite scraps leftover from installing kitchens and bathrooms from a friend. I've laid an 8x8 patio table pad and 36 ft of sidewalk. And yes... I have a bidet! 😂 And minisplits for heat and cooling in our bedrooms. We have the ProOne Big+. Filters out EVERYTHING!
I always enjoy your channel and you’re very practical tips. Growing up in a large family, we always hung our clothes out side in the spring and summer. I picked up many cost-effective saving tips while I was growing up and I am learning even more from you. I am 65 and never too old to learn. I live in a colder climate especially in the winter,🥶 so obviously some of my energy saving tips vary, due to climate. Even if I can’t hang my clothes out in the winter, I can hang them inside on racks. That saves me a lot, you can always pop them in the dryer for 5 to 10 minutes if you want them softer.
Dear Prepper Princess, may you please make a video about mini-split ac/heater. We need to replace our HVAC system and are considering ductless mini split unit.
Princess, before I left my parents home at the age of seventeen, I didn't have anyone to teach me how to manage my money. I wish I had met someone like you years ago in my younger years. My life probably would have been so much easier, and I wouldn't have made so many mistakes in my younger years! But I've learned so much from the much younger me and all those mistakes that I made on how to manage my money!
Same. I just want one of the old style machines that got clothes clean and we never used extra products because our clothes smelled bad after! washing!!!
That sounds cool that your house is a Sears house! It's historic in a relatable way! I wish I had "met" you when I was young enough to keep more of the money I made, per your excellent advice. 😊
My clothes" washer "is a claw foot bathtub with some water and my few clothes. My left hand and a scrub brush is my actual washer. After rinsing the dryer is a clothes line . Been washing this way for decades
I solved the “freezer drawer” problem when I renovated my kitchen. I bought matching Danny units, 11 cubic feet (24” wide) each; one all-fridge and one all-freezer; and put them side by side (fridge on the right with hinges on the right; freezer on the left with hinges on the left) in my kitchen. Eleven square feet doesn’t sound like much for a fridge; but since none of it is used up in freezer space; and since there are only two adults living here; it’s more than ample for our needs. It’s been about 10 years since I did this and I’ve never regretted designing my kitchen to accommodate this very convenient setup.
We gave our energy efficient Maytag away years ago....hated the low water level too! We got a Speed Queen and love it! There are several Sears homes in our small midwest town. Supposedly they hauled the lumber in on trains and there were horse drawn wagons to deliver the lumber to the building site. They are strong houses and still show straight roof lines and are beautiful homes. They sure don't make homes like they used to! Our home is over 100 years old and just under 1000 sq. ft. with 17 windows! We love it and wouldn't trade it for a new house. Loved this video.....thanks for the tour of your home!
I love all your videos PP. You are so real and down to earth. Other UA-camrs I follow started off the same but over time and with the growth and popularity of their channels, they changed until I could no longer relate and stopped watching them. Stay real!
I live in a colder climate with cold winters. Don't heat my bedroom in winter, I even leave the window open a little, because I need fresh air. But I have a really warm downy feather blanket that keeps you warm in the cold winters. Can highly recommend, no need for an electric blanket.
@@marliesk9920 Rice or corn filled bed warmers work great. Can throw it in a microwave for a couple minutes depending on the size and then put it under the sheets and blankets. Stays warm most if not all night.
Really enjoyed this house tour and chat. Love the simplicity and no clutter rooms. Less stuff equals less work and maintenance. Spoke to a friend last night and he was telling me he’s selling his rental properties (one sold and the other is going on the market shortly), both in a small country town, as he’s now over the fuss and bother of their upkeep and care. He’s moved back to Sydney and is renovating his townhouse. Everything purchased very cheaply at a clearance auction including the new low maintenance flooring. Purchased wood paneling flooring for a fraction of the price in the store and paid someone to install.
You've done an amazing job! 4 years ago I went on Social Security so I started looking for all the free stuff I could find. I was kind of fun. I've always been a very frugal person anyway.
If people would only think about what they're doing, they could save so much money! I had a friend who insisted on having the HE washer, and honestly, she would kill them by trying to wash gigantic loads, and using every freakin' additive in the world. Between the municipal water and the detergent, fabric softener, etc., the chemicals were killing her. She would always comment on how frugal I was and ask me how to save money, but had an excuse for any suggestions made. She also had to have a new car every few years. And she wondered why she was always broke!
Thanks for the house tour and for showing us your efficient and beloved items. Not only is your home beautiful, it has such character!! The size of your home is perfect because of the efficiency to heat/cool and clean. I appreciate the water-saving habit you have. My husband and I are that way, too. We save our dehumidifier condensate water for plants. We also have a 1,350 gallon rain catchement system for garden watering. Love your doggos! ♥
Totally agree with the drawers in the freezer. I got my dream fridge too but you're limited with space to get things in & out of the drawers. Love your videos. ❤
The only cycle that's heavy duty on my washer takes 2.5hours long..ain't nobody got time for that in a family of 7! I swear the kids clothes come out of all the normal washes more grubby and stained than when they went in..drives me nuts! I end up presoaking and handwashing for ease. Here in Portugal all older houses have a big concrete tub outside with built in scrubboard. Love it,can get everything for the week done and hung up within an hour..though am looking for a wringer for when the sun cools and wet weeks.
You’re absolutely correct about the high efficiency washers. They are horrible 😩!!! I hate it and so does everyone I talk to about this. They don’t clean the clothes well at all. It’s my only option because I also live in California.
How cool that you've got a Sears house! I designed and build my own small ranch style home 30 years ago and I've always been interested in those Sears mail order house kits.
Invest in a Speed Queen washer with an agitator. Best money I ever spent 8 years ago. Still running strong and I LOVE it. My clothes spin so well that they are almost dry when I put them in my dryer. Yes, I use a dryer. I live in a condo and am willing to pay the bill to dry 3 loads of laundry per week. If I ever NEED to, I would dry them on a rack if I had to. I could be wrong, but it looked like you may have some blackout curtains in your room and some heavy ones in your living room. That would also save you money on your energy bill!
Our freezer on the bottom is a giant drawer with a pull out drawer on top. It’s way too easy to lose items. They get buried. So I tried adding a couple bins to help organize. Still a hot mess if we’re not careful! And I wish refrigerators didn’t automatically come with ice makers. It takes up valuable space. We don’t even use ice 99% of the time.
My Berkey is packed up and ready with non Berkey filters to be used if I need it. I think some of the newer filters are silver infused. Silver is something that is antifungal and antibacterial so they might be better. I use the electric blanket when I sleep in my car. Really low wattage.. PP, the global situation was making me really insecure regarding the possibility of roads being destroyed by wars or natural disasters between USA and CA, and your orange trees made me feel like doing something about it. Oranges don't grow here, but we did manage to purchase a small (125$) Honey Crisp apple tree this spring (no apples yet, but still!) - and my neighbor recently brought over THREE FREE (yes, 3!) red plum trees (they look more like branches but still, apparently they should produce at some point. If someone lives in the north, like we do, apples and plums can grow (you can freeze them, you can dry them (don't have a dryer, but still) and you can make sauce etc. I'm so looking forward to next summer. Also, sharing (if ever I get fruit) would be my greatest pride and joy, cross my fingers. You have inspired me, and I thank you for that. ;o)
About filtered water ! You need a filter that removes chlorine, flouride, bacteria, parasites, etc. but leaves the minerals (electrolytes). I used Zero for a few years and started getting severe muscle cramps. The ceramic candles that have silver, called sterasyl, take out the bad stuff, but leave the minerals. I made a filter with two five gallon food safe buckets. Drilled a hole in the center top bucket bottom to recieve the candle. Then drll a larger hole in the center of the lid over the bottom bucket to allow the nut on the filter to set on the lid so the water can drip into the bottom bucket. Actually you could make this set up with 55 gal. Drums if you had sseveral family members.
Maybe you could look to see if you can get some shelves to fit the freezer instead of the drawers? There should be ridges on the side of the walls where the drawers slide you could repurpose for shelves? You can get replacement shelves online easily and probably at reclaimed yards! Great video i love home made coffee!

Very cute and cozy house indeed. I don’t like the water saving washer either and I bought a Speed Queen that cleans with water. I don’t have pet, I wonder if dogs watch TV?
My son had some kind of fancy high efficiency washer and they hated it too. He works in a dirty job and it didn't clean well at all. You have a lovely home and tons of room for just you and the pups.
You probably also have energy efficient light bulbs, low flow shower head, insulated drapes, Im considering an under sink instant water heater... after a visit to Malawi Africa I found they use something simular for showers only switched on at bath time. This house has a 60 gas elec water heater!!!! I have set it at 100 degrees. FL granma
I have those water saving habits, too. I think it’s from so many years of so many draughts. I’m hoping you’ll give a report on how that split AC/heater does in winter.

Dryers that get little or no use are favorite places for mice to enter a house. Check your vent from time to time.
Or even regular use! Last time I cleaned out the dryer duct, I found walnut shells at the bottom. I guess a squirrel was using it for storage.
There are mice guards that fit on the outside of your dryer vent. They are cheap. Like less than $25 cheap.

Cutest dogs ever!
You probably also have energy efficient light bulbs, low flow shower head, insulated drapes,
Im considering an under sink instant water heater... after a visit to Malawi Africa I found they use something simular for showers only switched on at bath time. This house has a 60 gas elec water heater!!!! I have set it at 100 degrees. FL granma

Looks nice. You did a great job. Thanks for sharing!
