the golf feels more premium than the focus imo

I actually feel the Focus ST MK4.5 really did improve things with a more premium element. The name and history of the GTI and the long standing saying of how good the Golf is built stays in its favour. However, I would say there is not much to split between the two in my experiences although the Golf would edge it still for me also based on my time spent with the MK8.5 Golf last month.

Compared to the mk4 focus it defo does. My parents had a 2020 focus and it was quite plasticky VS the mk8 golf. Can’t comment on the mk4.5 focus

This is going to be tricky to keep it under the £40K mark for the tax. it'll be interesting to see the pricing on the new Octavia VRS, possibly very similar, but more standard equipment. That might be the deciding factor for me.

Good point! I would like to see what the VRS is like. I have always been curious about that car with the EA888 engine you find in the GTI. It also offers a bit more practicality I believe 🤔

Hang on for a few months and the Chinese version will be available for just under £20k

I’m not interested one bit, no manual r-line TDi option which is far more fuel efficient than that gti thing. Also I can’t stand the light bars, #fugly

Drive the Deal are currently showing a healthy £5200 discount off a base spec GTI, which include the £2K finance contribution. I suspect the monthlies will be very competitive! I wouldn't be too surprised if the GTI is not much more per month than the 1.5 tsi R-Line. I know which one i'd rather have!

Thank you for sharing and for sure it is worth checking around to see where the best deals are available for the GTI 👍

Does the car really need Dcc option? I’m waiting for the Golf R 8.5 and just dont know whether it’s worth the extra £900 option.
If you get comfort, eco and sport on a standard GTI and R. So why do you need more?!
    Cheers

That is a great question. For me on the GTI I would say it is okay without DCC but that is subjective to my tolerance as the suspension is soft enough in its fixed setting. The R is a firmer car out of the box, even more so on 19" wheels, and without DCC changing the modes does nothing to soften the suspension. The modes will only change items like the throttle response, steering weight and interior noise. Which does make things more refined but the suspension will remain firm. For me I would go for DCC on a Golf R although I should say I've owned my 2017 MK7 Golf R without DCC for 7 years and it has been okay for me on 18" wheels. If I had the 19" wheels I think that might have been too much for me. It is more to do with the UK roads than the car. Hope that helps with your decision around the MK8.5 Golf R which is a car I am very much looking forward to also 👍

I have a 7.5R without DCC on 19inch wheels and find it fine. Couldn’t really detect much of a difference when compared to a car fitted with 18 inch wheels.

DCC will be standard for the 8.5R.

Getting it below that 40k tax figure is great but would real enthusiasts of the GTi brand want it without a few choice extras, which will probably push it over 40k. I guess it all depends on what comes as standard as you said.

Very good point. I love it in kings red metallic with the black styling pack but that would almost certainly push it above £40,000 🤔

@SamAustin yes and there's the predicament, all the good stuff costs money and for 5 years in road higher tax as I know 😂

FWIW I bought a new Mk8 in March for £36500 with £2.5k of options, Lifeshine and loads of free insurance products I hope never to need plus service plan and 4 year warranty. Glad I bought when I did as I can’t see the 8.5 being better than the 8 other than the Infotainment system. Will be interesting to see what comes as standard as you say. Coming from a luxury car brand I was pleasantly surprised at the standard spec of the 8.

They need to do some finance offers like BMW do on the 135iM sport X drive & Ford are doing same sort of offers on the Focus ST. Don't think Volkswagen will though ?

    • @SamAustin
      @SamAustin  3 місяці тому +1

I do hear also that BMW offer some great deals on the likes of the M135i and the 128ti. The fact VW have kept the price at this level suggests perhaps they are aware that rivals have caught up in quality which results in VW having to make their prices more competitive. Its the law of diminishing returns....everyone catches up eventually and there is a healthy amount of competition out there in this sector despite the growing push towards EV's.

@@SamAustin There’s a BMW dealer in Derby & you only have to put £490 down as deposit the other £4500 is made up of manufacture & dealer contributions 4 year deal at 3.3% for 4 years. Allen Ford are offering a deal on new focus but deposit is £4-5k.

    • @jamesbrowne7601

The best deals on the BMW 135iM sport are in white as that’s the free colour with BMW the blue ones it’s £2500 extra the 128ti is more as it has a premium cabin full leather & some other packs plus the one I saw at my local dealer was in black which puts the price up
