  • In this video you will learn how to diagnose and fix a fuel problem from the gas tank through cleaning the carburetor. There are many reasons why fuel may not be getting to or through your carburetor to the engine so it can cause the engine to fire and run.
    I will walk you through the process I took with this Yamaha Golf Cart to find out why it would not run and ran poorly.
    After checking and repairing the fuel filter, fuel lines, fuel pump and cleaning the carburetor the engine runs like new!

    I was very impressed with the easy to follow steps on the reinstallation of the carb, but I was not happy with the way it was taken apart, so when I saw the way you put it together I was very happy, thanks good job

      I try not to take too much time to get the directions across. I thought showing more details on the reinstallation would give people the details they would need to do the job themselves. Glad it helped

    I notice you didn't pull the pilot(Big screw in middle) out and clean it. The second time I cleaned my carb, I opt to soak the pilot and other parts in a shot glass of carb cleaner and it pulled out some nasty stuff that was missed earlier.

    Greetings, I have the same golf cart as in your video. 1985 Yamaha G1. Owned this cart for about about 7 years now; I use it on a 4-acre farm property. About 2 weeks ago, I failed to check my fuel level and ran out of gas. From that point to the present, I have had the same issue as in your video with no power. I followed your video to check the carburetor at the fuel bowl level, but I still need to remove it entirely as you did. There was no debris in the fuel bowl; I sprayed carb cleaner and reconnected, however, to no avail. I sprayed carb cleaner in the jets, motor kicked in with full power, then slowed down. I followed another video to check the fuel line from the tank to the pump, and all was clear. As you showed, I checked the line from the fuel pump to the carb, and no fuel was coming out. So I ordered a fuel pump from eBay, which I discovered was my first mistake. The fuel intake brass nipple is a smaller diameter than the original "mic" brand, I had to use a hose clamp to secure the hose; the screw pattern is off about 1/16" smaller than the original; holes on the device I needed to drill out to accommodate the size of the screw to fit the frame. The unfortunate part of all this is no fuel is pumping out from this device. I stated all this to ask the question. Is there a way to test a fuel pump? I believe I need to purchase an OEM fuel pump, do you agree? Thank you!

      It is a little difficult to follow what you have written without looking at it. When the original fuel pump was on there did you check the fuel filter and everything else From the fuel tank to the carburetor? When you ran it out of fuel maybe something got clogged or the air in the line interrupted fuel getting to the carburetor?… Your new pump being the wrong size and using hose clamps sounds like there is a chance of air getting into the line without a good hose clamp to seal it. If it were me I would go back to your original fuel pump and see if you can diagnose the problem from there.
      Maybe running the fuel tank empty pull some debris into the fuel pump or fuel filter?. The way that your fuel pump works is by the piston causing the diaphragm and the pump to pump the fuel into the carburetor. To test your fuel pump you press the Excelerator like I did in the video with the fuel supply line to the carburetor disconnected and you should see fuel pumping out of that hose. If you’re not getting fuel coming out of that hose it’s because of a cracked fuel line or a clogged fuel filter or possibly a clogged or bad fuel pump. It is hard to diagnose without looking at it.

      @@helpinguonline Greetings, sir; thank you for taking the time to reply. Apologize for the delay in responding back. I did check the fuel line from the pump back to the tank in two methods. I removed the line from inside the gas tank with the hose connected to the fuel filter and the hose connected to the metal line. I disconnected the hose between the end of the metal line to the fuel pump. I applied a small amount of air to the line from the tank with a compressor. The fuel in the filter and line blew out and cleared the line. I then placed the tube back in the gas tank and connected the hose between the metal line and the fuel pump. I then pressurized the fuel tank with compressed air, and fuel filled up the filter and line. I started the motor, but to no avail; fuel did not come through the pump. I do not expect you to respond, sir; just letting you know of my steps. Thank you.

      It is hard to say without looking at it.... but... sure, your fuel pump could be bad or an obstruction somewhere. Is the fuel you put in the tank good (no water in it?) If everything is clear to the pump and the pump isn't working replacing the pump would be a good guess...and you need air tight connections for the pump to work properly. Sorry I can't be more help... but you will get it if you keep plugging away at it.

    I've got an 87' G2 four stroke and with the instructions from your video I now have a really clean carb. Thank you - but my initial problem persists. It runs so rich other cart drivers stay about a quarter mile behind me! I can't find any advice on the problem. Can you point me in the right direction, please?

    • @helpinguonline
      @helpinguonline  Рік тому +1

      Make sure your air filter is clean...
      There is a fuel adjustment screw on the carburetor if it is running too rich you can try adjusting that (turning it clockwise will provide less fuel to the carb.
      Is it running rich or burning oil?
      Let us know what it was after you get it fixed.

      If you have to run it with 1/4 choke that means you are not getting enough fuel (it's running lean not rich). turn the screw out (counter clockwise) further and see if that helps.... check fuel filter to see if it is clogged if so install a new one. check fuel pump and lines to make sure no leaks and all working well.
      your carb needs more fuel not less if you have to run it with the choke.

      I do not have enough information to be able to diagnose your problem but… Is it getting enough fuel?… Is it getting enough air?… Is it running well but something as simple as the brake is sticking?… Did you run it on straight gas without two cycle oil and score the piston and Cylinder wall?… I would start simple and work your way deeper from there. I recently had a 2001 Club Car DS serviced for a no start problem. A new coil was installed, new fuel lines and filers and supposedly the carb was cleaned by the serviceman. Now it is slow to get started...you can only press the accelerator down slightly to starts then it run roughly and finally after a couple of minutes it runs fine. The fuel pump is pumping fuel but can you have one failing do this or any other suggestions? Thanks for your time.

    • @helpinguonline
      @helpinguonline  2 роки тому

      Sounds like your carburetor needs adjusting. There should be an air / fuel adjustment screw on the carb to do that. Also, the choke may be opening too soon before it is warmed up enough to run smoothly.

    • @MSUFan78
      @MSUFan78 2 роки тому

      @@helpinguonline Would the carb need adjustment even though none of the screws were touched. He did suggest putting Seafoam in it and run it but that didn't make much difference.

    • @helpinguonline

      I thought you mentioned that it was serviced and had the Carb cleaned. If it was cleaned, it would have been disassembled. The air/fuel screw would have been removed and reinstalled. Thus, it may need a little fine tuning?. Takes just a minute to do. You should be able to find a video online to show you how to do that on your club car.

      it also could be a choke issue if the cart runs well when warmed up.

      Check and see if you have fuel going to the carburetor and if you do then check and see if you have spark. It is probably one of those two things. Those are the most common causes
