- Here is something cool guys, this old 1980s Yamaha G1 golf cart has a 2 stroke engine, and NO reverse gear! To accomplish reverse the engine itself actually runs in reverse! Check it out, ingenious!
I am in the market for a golf cart to get around mountain property. The seller states it's a Yamaha G1 Golf Cart - Gas - 2 stroke. They have had it for many years and have upgraded to electric. He wants $2k for it. It "appears" to be well taken care of from a photo. I have not seen it in person, yet. My main use would be to pull two bins (garbage, recycle) down a long (equivalent to 2 suburban blocks) Paved driveway and carry my tools around
My questions for anyone familiar with the Yamaha G1 model are:
1. How fast do these carts go?
2. Does the cart have power to go up an elevated driveway?
3. Is $2000.00 what these older carts on the market for these days?
Thank you in advanced. Angel from The Bay
Mercury outboards used to have a direct reverse also . They called they “dock busters “. lol. This is a G1 . Serial number is on the right or left frame behind the wheel well. 🙋♂️👍🖖🏻
I have this same cart and was trying to figure out the model. G1 or maybe g2 I suspect. I need an ignition coil/plug wire module
I’ve been looking for a video of people doing mods to this golf cart with the stock 2 stroke cause I’m looking to do something with mine but everybody just puts a different motor in it
Yeah, it's best to change the motor, get a 800cc sled motor 🤠
machinesnmetal on it 😂
Those 2 strokes are to much headaches especially when the cdi box goes out on them check my video I heavily modded my g1 👍
Yamaha gas golf cart goes forward when in reverse how to readjust
Could you ever get it to idle,I just got one and been try'n to figure out how the hell it works...I thought it had a forward reverse trans,so I thought I could put a two way switch and separate start..it runs good at top speed, but jerky at slow speeds..any suggestions
I'd love to see the video on how the clutches work. I think mine needs rebuilt for replaced.
I made a video on rebuilding a "team" brand clutch and one of a Toro workman with the same clutch in it operating. Those might help!
We have one identical to this and we're trying to figure out why it won't run.... we have power. But can't get the electric motor to take off
I put a 8hp side shafted motor on mind and cut a new belt
I’ve got the same cart… but I’ve got a electrical problem…. The battery blew up and now I have no spark… I’m assuming it is the voltage regulator… any help would be greatly appreciated…
I would go after the coil and ignition side first, the voltage regulator works more on the charging side..
How do they adjust the spark advance on the ignition ?
Strange, I have two of these. One has a boost chambers common for some two strokes yet my other one doesn't have a boost chamber or the hookups for one in the block and the mount for the carb. Next thing I've got going for these carts is a governor adjustment although I think one of them, the engine is just about shot. It barely climbed a hill with two people.
Check your muffler. The muffler on this one was completley plugged up and no exhaust would flow through it. We cut it open and emptied it, welded it back together and it behaved like a new machine.
I have this same cart, lt will start and go forward but will not start in reverse. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
The electrical system switching is quite complex for a golf cart. Turning the generator the opposite direction reverses the current to some switching polarity before power gets to the rest of the system. This is done via the two solenoids near the voltage regulator. My guess is that the one used for reverse operation is faulty or has been wired incorrectly.
I’m trying to wire up my starter/generator just like this one do you happen to have a diagram of how the cables where ran from the starter/generator to the the things on the fender?
They are all over the internet. Super easy to find. Do a Google search for "Yamaha G1 wiring diagram".
CW I ON THE IGGY SIDE
CW IS ON THE IGGY SIDE FOR FORWARDS
Its a starter generator, no such thing as a starter alternator to my knowledge. These are good carts, I have one. My exhaust isn't plugged but it is filled up with oil or carbon, it smokes like an SOB when the exhaust gets hot. I can golf 9 holes with no problem (lots of stopping and starting) but if I drive the cart down the road for more than a half mile it starts to smoke really bad. I've heard some people put the whole muffler into a camp fire and let the oil burn out of it (google yamaha g1 muffler bbq) but I think these mufflers have fibreglass baffles in them so I wouldn't recommend it. I think this summer I am going to remove the muffler and try to rinse out the insides with kerosene or even gasoline and see if that helps. I have heard that some people pressure wash 2 stroke dirt bike pipes out. If all else fails I'll have to slice it open and clean it out manually and weld it back together.
The owner of this cart took the muffler and sliced the ends off and then he put it in a barbecue and cooked it then re-welded the ends back on well or so he told me and apparently it works well again now
Correct. Any DC motor is both a DC motor and a DC generator. DC is converted to AC via an inverter. AC is converted to DC via a rectifier after stepping down voltage.
The crankshaft seals may also be the issue, not the muffler.
Muffler was packed solid with carbon/tar. Had to slice the end of of it and cook it in the BBQ for 6 hours.
I have one!!!
Where did you find a muffler replacement?
Never found one
@@machinesnmetal Plowmans Carts. He specializes in Yamaha carts and builds his own performance muffler. Have one on mine. Doesn't have all the packing in it. Awesome product.
Way sick I have one
I remember cleaning out 2 stroke exhausts by using a blowtorch up the tailpipe to burn out the carbon. That might work with that exhaust as well
the owner took the exhaust, hes going to slice an end off and see if he can get at the insides to burn/clean it out.
@@machinesnmetal We have a trash gas grill; we put a fresh tank on it, muffler in, and let it go overnight. Choose a night when the wind is blowing away from you... Impressive clean-out job.
