Great video. I mostly agree. I started out with a Mustang (that turned into a 315p once i got my Vindicator) but if i were to start over again, i wouldnt waste a single moment of doubt before picking my trusty Avenger.
Only thing i need to be mentioned: The old story about Mustangs not being able to do delivery missions anymore. I would call deliveries THE starter mission of Star Citizen. It' s flight school, learning to use outposts and terminals and a general guide to the system and gameplay.
Really, i love the Mustang and i breaks my heart a little to say this. But as a ship that can only perform that mission in the hands of an experienced player the Mustangs should be recommended with a loud warning about this problem or even be disqualified as starters in the present state of things altogether.
The Avenger Titan is hands down the best starter ship.

- Cargo
- Weaponry
- Modular (To be implemented to swap Warlock and Stalker interior)
The modular part is what makes it stand out so much since you basically get 3 ships in 1.
As a merchant in the 'verse, this is a very helpful and accurate guide. Excellent job overall.
My opinion is, Titan is best all-round ship, Nomad is best cargo, Tana missile boat, Mustang cheep entry-level ship, and 325A best Combat ship.

The tractor on the nomad is also something to consider
With Manual Cargo loading soon to come into the game this is actually a big consideration if trading is your focus
Here is the proper way to start Star Citizen. The first thing you need to know going in, is you won't be able to stop at $45. The game is Alpha and at times there are days where you just can't make money due to buggy patches and upgrades that can last for weeks. You want to get into a good ship ASAP. Step 1) Buy an Aurora and make sure the game runs well on your computer and that you like the game(note: your first login will always be glitchy. The first couple hours will be like this. It is the game trying to load everything for the first time. It will get better. This is why I say give the Aurora a couple days). Stay in the Aurora for a couple days to a week. Step 2) If all is good, upgrade to a Nomad, Cutty Black, or Freelancer. Once you hit these ships, the real gameplay of SC really starts to open up. You can carry vehicles and larger cargo capacity. The Aurora and even Titan just won't give you the same gameplay satisfaction of these larger ships, and as a noob, it will take you a LOOOOONG time to get your first mil. Do not get caught up in trying to make a sub $100 ship work. I guess technically the Nomad is sub $100 at $90, but it's close enough to $100 to just call it that. When I started, I hated life till I talked myself into upgrading to the Nomad. All these people talking about how the Aurora or Titan is enough are vets who already know the mechanics of the game and how to fly well. Don't listen to those tool bags. They forgot what it's like to be a noob and have 0 instructions or training what so ever in game.
The 315p doesn't have 3 weapon hardpoints, it only has 2. The nose mount is utility only with a tractor beam. Gameplay still unreleased.
The Aurora looks like a flying heatsink. Great for those who love their PC components out on display for everyone who comes to visit them.
The answer is always Avenger Titan, followed by C.O. Nomad, and then Cutlass Black. Spend a year with one of those then you will know what you want to branch out to from there.
Great video. I'd say you nailed it with your recommendations. I am a Titan fan, myself, until you can get a Cuttlas Black. Box missions, Investigate missions (with hand mining). Cargo is a little on the tiny side, but you can grind cash in it. Take all the available box missions and knock them out without issue. Until you want to pull the trigger on the classic CuttyBlk+ROC combo, the Titan is a lot of fun to play with.
A good video on starter ships. My advice is to save your buckazoids up and get the Cutlass Black. It's $115, but it is the pickup truck of the galaxy. It does it all, and after playing this game for years, I've still got mine. But if you can't wait, follow this video.
Id say anyone in doubt or just wanting to start, that's more the point of this video. I agree with the Cutty Black being one of the easiest to recommend ships as well.
Hey, folks, Elite refugee here. Been in the 'verse since the beginning of the year and I'm loving the Titan. It isn't perfect but it's covering everything I've needed as a noob.
But what I recommend is just to buy the base Aurora and play that for a week. If you can't stand it and are willing to swing the cash, then upgrade to the Titan, otherwise just save in-game credits.
@STLYoungblood - you missed - The Nomad Also has a Tractor Beam to make loading of that 24 SCU bay a lot quicker

Interesting video, I wouldnt have recomended the Mustanf Alpha for a beginner in its current state. I believe it still suffers where the scu on the rear is none functioning so all you can to with it is combat and box missions. However for box missions the Mustang Alpha isnt straight forward, you have to either have a tractor bean to try and load them in the back or park the ship low down to try and jump on. Either way the best starter for all at the lowest is the Aurora MR, which also has two more addiotional hard points on the wings to make your weapons 4 size one (also can be gimbled for a better starter experience) as well as being able to do box missions much easier and has a bed!. A good earner for beginner is also Zeta recovery where the |Aurora will be better than the Alpha due to the time constraints.
Also the 315P has 12scu of storage not 14 as stated in the video, but other than that it was a good breakdown and I would recomend to anyone with teir 2 money got for the Avenger Titan as its the best all rounder for its price point, unless haulage/mining is your thing then the nomad or cuttlass black if your wallet can stretch that far. But to clarify, anyone interested in getting itno this game I would recomend £45 to begin with as you can always upgrade to the more costly packs later, for now its a good price point and after a few days of missions you can hire other ships (not all) to try different gameplay loops.
For me after playing with 100i's (bought it at £45 on sale), Avenger titans, 300i's, 135c I eventually sold my game packages and went for the Pisces C8X expedtion. Reasons? just love the design and the ship characteristics of that little ship, as its the best box mission and zeta recovery ship for its size. I have garnered over a million aUEC in the space of a week (mining via hiring the greycat and Cutty Black) and am now the owner of a Nomad and Greycat for my mining loops. Pisces is my quick runabout for the system, with a combat specific ship next on the shopping list and then a mid tier haulage ship like freelancer or the new hull A depending on its release price in game.
The Pisces C8X is arguably better than the Mustang Alpha. Having the ramp in the back and walk-in space means you can easily do box missions while stacking boxes in the interior of the ship. The 4 small hardpoints all fit gimbals, so you can have 4 size 1 gimballed weapons for VLRT Bounty Missions. It's maneuverable in low speeds (180m/s) and is capable of reaching 1000m/s range. It has a smaller cargo space (4 units instead of the Mustang Alpha's 6), but the Mustang's Cargo space isn't usable atm, so what does it matter?
(edit) Also, the C8X has the same range as the Mustang Alpha. It can make a full trip across Stanton system before needing refueling for Quantum.
Your point on 1 SCU isn't enough cargo to be worth it.
I'd say anything less than 20 SCU isn't enough to be worth it. Making cargo a non-factor in choosing a starter ship, besides the Nomad.
Though having any cargo space beats having no cargo space, but not for reasons of profit.

Youngblood pointed out that if you lean toward trade and are prepared to splash a bit more cash, go for the Nomad.
As to "anything less than 20 SCU isn't enough to be worth it" - I respectfully disagree: When I got back into the game recently, I made plenty in my Titan by choosing "box missions" that took me to one or two legs of a booze -> meds/stims -> mining run.
- Doesn't take long to generate "seed cash" to rent a cutty black to up the trade (or also hire a ROC and do some mining)
- With partial cargo-refactor in upcoming 3.17 (where trade cargo cartons in your ship are solid) this mixing trade + box missions is a bit harder in the Titan, but its doable
Another point to add - If you know you're going to focus heavily on trade and willing to spend extra cash, then you might skip the Nomad and go for the Freelancer starter pack for 66 cargo, which you can also go ROC mining with
(Or the Cutty Black, but only 46 SCU)
Thanks for the updated starter ship video! Do you feel like the barriers to doing box missions with the Mustang give some weight to the Aurora as a better option?
Of course! I think the ability to put the boxes in the cargo space of the Alpha would mean this isn't a problem, beta interior may require tractor beam. I still prefer the Alpha, but the interior with bed and ease of use with boxes does make the LN attractive.
Just a word of warning to those looking at the C8X Pisces, it does NOT come with a jump drive stock, you'll have to buy that separately, and I don't know what that'll cost in-game. Probably won't be too much, but it's something worth noting, I think. I looked up the Q&A and saw that you CAN equip it with a jump drive (Apparently it just plugs into the quantum drive), it just doesn't come with one.
Edit: Glad I'm not the only one that's a big fan of the Nomad! It's hard to recommend at its price, but it's one of my favorite ships.
Just to clarify the C8X Pisces Expedition that is apart of the starter packages on the webiste is the version that comes with a quantam drive as stock (Expedition one) as well as total of 4 size one wepons, 2 of which are gimbled, and 2 missiles affixed on the wings.
Great Video! And I will always stand behind my personal feeling of the Space Penguin being the best ship in game overall! No matter what ships I have in game, I always end up flying my Avenger 90% of the time, it just works well for everything I like to do. Just wish it had a weapons rack!
Personal favorite is the Beta. Flight model is actually awesome, some tweaks to the load out and the dps over time is great and all gimballed. Pluss a bed the view
BETA interior looks more like a Sterile Prison Cell then anything, Though I do like the exterior changes I still miss the old BETA concept interior.

I really would like to prefer the Nomad more as it is neat in a lot of areas but I feel it needs more work. For a ship named Nomad its fuel range is not very good. Also if it has a back door that meets with the cargo deck that would be great for several reasons - such as loading the ROC is now a sensible entry and exit.
325 is great and has that smooth sexy Origin feel, easy to recommend ship when wanting something other than a Titan : )

lol feeling a bit called out. Reliant pilot for a long time. Love the ship. Fly it nearly every time I get on. Just depends on how I'm feeling that night. Love my Tana and I would argue that it's one of if not the best start ship. Feel free to try to change my mind. 😀 Anyway, love the content. Keep up the good work. 👍

I am seeing the starter pack page the nomad is 95 and cutty is 115 for 20 bucks more you are getting so much value going from 20 scu to 46 is crazy and hold the roc still its the no brainer.
all that being said get the titan and then in game rent the roc cutty and see if you like it.
I still love flying my Reliant’s. I wouldn’t recommend them for a starter, but I take mine out frequently.
Mustang has trouble with the package run missions tho.
I have an LX Aurora, because it came with a jump drive at the time and the others did not. Oh, and a leather seat 😙
My Reliants definitely need some serious love when their gold pass arrives. 😒
One thing to keep in mind is the 300i for some reason has a longer reclaim time. While you can expedite it, it only goes down to two minutes which a lot of the other starters have as their unexpedited time.
Are you saying the expedited time is 2 min, or that is what the others are going to?
@@STLYoungblood the expedited time is 2 minutes. The others if you expedite get there instantly.
Without paying to expedite the 300i is several minutes longer than the other ships.
I also think that having a gimble for the starter ships are good to get new players into the combat ( bounty ) as delivery is ok and bunker needs you to out lay cash for guns and armour . not a fan of the mustang that I started with ( cheapest package ) happier I upgraded to the Titan . Origin look better and for me that is important too lol
but even if you are a cargo huller or miner you still need to be able to defend your self = more guns :D
Nomad also has largest inventory space of these ships as well

I always suggest the aurora over the mustangs because it has outside benefits over the mustang like fitting in the carrack. Overall I always suggest getting out of the 2 starters and grab a 125a because you should have one and/or a titan.
Gotta ask; how can you recommend the Alpha as a starter ship when it can't do almost every available mission for beginners without major messing about. No deliveries, no salvage. I immediately traded my Mustang for an Aurora when I started the game. Plus now, I would get the Pisces as it's unparalleled at the price point for delivery missions and even a VHRT bounty isn't much of an issue. Not that I'd recommend that for a beginner. It's also ideal for medical beacons and transport of up to two people

I ended up with a reliant as a loaner, flew it this last week a d was just again disappointed in it. I want it to be good but it's just lacking at this point.
I wanted to like the Reliant.. but yeah, fragile and super slow for something that claims alien tech as a selling point.
I went from LN to Titan package, then CCU'd up to the Reliant Tana, only to bite the bullet and CCU that to a Freelancer. Part of me wanted to up that to the MIS, but OTOH I didn't want to spend al that much, plus wanted ingame goals to earn (Redeemer fanboi!)
I could have sworn the 315p has 12 SCU of cargo. 8 in the main bay (like the 300) and 4 in the secondary bay (like the 325 and 350)
The 315p also cannot use the nose hard point for a weapon. So its inaccurate to give it the same DPS as the 300.

I’m positive too that the 315p has more SCU than the normal 300i but packs less of a punch.
@@E36Jordan the 315p has both bays. The 4 and the 8. (=12). The 300 has the 8. The 325 and 350 each have the 4. (I can't recall which is the forward bay, and which is the rear bay) but the 315 has both, for a total of 12. And yes, they open and close separately.
The nose attachment of the 325 currently won't hold a weapon. Is listed as for a tractor beam. MAY be interchangeable for sensors someday (not confirmed).
A question I would like answered is how big is the QT tank on the 315p?
The Relient is such a nice looking and concept of ship, it's sad it's flight model sucks.

The 100 series ends up being a great shuttle/transportation ship when you outgrow just about all the other starters.
I like the 100i, it feels like it flies better than it does, its got a great design, and is sleek. Overall, just outclassed, but as a runabout, it does that job well.
Everyone should own a 100 series purely for it's fuel efficiency. It is basically the electric car of star citizen. I usually choose the 125a because it is the fastest.

(1) I'm not sure you can do box missions with it at the moment. Maybe after cargo refactor, if you can tack the boxes to the ext cargo rack?!
(2) If it goes to a starter-pack, it is probably going to be a similar (or higher) price-point to the Freelancer starter-pack - which is well beyond the scope of this video
