The way I read this song, it's Lupe's feelings about rap. The first two verses are why he got into rap, and a lot of it's about how he hates it as much as he loves it. But the third verse is about why he raps anyway - because the world is such a fucked up place, and he wants to do any small thing he can to make it better. In my opinion, this is the best rap song of all time.
He's been so underrated in the general picture for so long now. Probably best lyricist, best verses, and best , hard music ever. Tetsuo & Youth completely brought his sound back to life. If you don't think this is one of the best songs around, you have to listen to it a couple more times and actually listen to what he's saying in these verses...guy is fucking insane.
Can't stand cursing but the two times he does...and the two times he says the word used to demean black people is truly outshined by his message.Crazy how he gave 24 ills for ever inch of the chrome wheels.A song that will make you stop dead in your tracks and re-examine everything/everyone.Especially yourself. "All the *WORLDS* *ILLS*,*sitting on chrome 24 inch wheels like that*!" "And it *HURTS* me *SOUL*!"
It's "Too Short made me laugh..." and "Me and 'Dog/dog' couldn't relate...". Both of these are references to the favored, foul mouthed Hip Hop legend Too Short aka Short Dog. The latter will now make sense as a double entendre.
AllMyBitches LikeBitches LMAO he even says asthaghfirullah in the beginning which is to ask for forgiveness in Islam. Outta here witcho stupid ass. His real name is Wasalu Mohammed.
Great job with the lyrics, very few mistakes. A particular one I feel the need to point out: He actually says "Osama and Obama and em" instead of "Osama and no bombin them". I thought it was important to point this out because it's a powerful line in an amazing song. Peace.
What is going on. Whoa this song blows my mind every time. Nothings changed. Will it ever change? Nope! "They say don't knock it mind your business. His business isn't mine and that nigga pimpin got it"
This track is the reason why I "consciously" banned rap for 5 years 2006-2010, and also the reason why I "hypocritically" listen to artists like Future and Young Thug, and produce trap beats today...
That last verse is one of the best stringing together of lyrics ever.
Totally agree.
Yup and the way he summarize it in the chorus is simply genius. One of the most underrated songs
Somehow we all can relate to all the verses simply genius
That last verse is pure art. so impressive
This song 🔥🔥🔥 AF Lupe Fiasco Still one of favorite Rapper's since Superstar
And the way he summarize it in the chorus takes it to another level.

Word
Now he’s getting hated for saying he’s a better lyricist than Kendrick
over ten years ago driving home from work at night i heard these lyrics from someone's car, googled and love this song.

I was 20 bro turning 39 this year and still rocking this song because it’s one of the best from the 00’s
The opening recitation in the background "Astagfirullah" means "God forgive me". Lupe is a proud Muslim and not afraid to show it.
They bombed our villages and call me terrorist
Who's here in 2024 ,

One of the few artists who really touches the soul

Dude gotta be top 5.
We need more guys like Lupe spitting real stuff. Tired of rap moving backwards!

@@757Automatic I noticed that too, 24 ills for each inch of the chrome wheels. What a lyrical genius.
@@Jack-rk7jc Facts and it's sad so many will never know that
This era mannn, Lupe, early Wiz, Gym Class Heroes, Dilated Peoples, Ludacris, T.I. beautiful time in hip hop
This song and Kendrick's Sing about me are instant classics.
Sing about me is just an extended K. DOT version of Nas' second childhood

Classic
Sounds more like Osama and Obama them on that last verse(lyrics)
Brittany Holmes the verified lyrics say “no bombing them”.. so yes it’s a double entendre.
Nah this was before Obama was president, unless he was referencing senator Obama but I doubt it
It's Too Short
Dope ....string theory
*Too Short made me laugh* not to sort he's referring to the rapper.
Luuuuupppppeeeee
hahaha listen to when he takes a breath in between lines. its hilarious
Man I was thinking the same thing lol Lupe one of my faves tho
Osama and Obama and them. That's the lyric
This was made before Obama's career
it is still the lyric
Jay Gant No one even knew who he was back then
He was a US senator. Obama and Lupe are from the same city
Jay Gant Eh. Still sounds different to my ear.
