Amazing vid! I used to be so pissed off about the new updates, then it hit me when you said it was because we didn't want to see it change from what we fell in love with
idk why people say this, I've played minecraft since 2012, and I still do. I definitely wouldve stopped if there weren't continual updates, and everything you could do that was fun in old minecraft you can still do now. Just because village breeding and ancient cities are in the game doesn't mean you have to go to them, and who wants to build with the limited amount of blocks in the older version. Old minecraft isn't bad, but new minecraft decently isn't worse.
You don’t understand extrinsic vs intrinsic motivation. Anyways, if there is something in the game that is OP, people will use it. It is perfectly reasonable to complain about it being OP
epic video. You are completely right about this. I remember the first world I joined. well technically it was me and my brothers but yeah. we had no concept of creative/survival in the game, so we ran into a cave (on creative) and got scared by a zombie and started punching it and ran out. my brother was controlling the screen but I watched. that counts right? soon enough we discovered that there were two different game modes. we saw a third one but we didn't understand why we couldn't do anything (adventure mode). I joined in 2015/2014 sometime around when I was 3-5 years old. it's crazy how what you're describing feels like the same experience I had when I first joined. my brother built a tall brick house on a survival world, and at one point he discovered a new mob, the witch, which he was terrified of obviously, but he told himself to man up and ran out of his house and punched it to death with his fist. I remember him bragging about it to us and us being jealous. we never really crafted extra tools other than a pickaxe and sword because we could already break every other block, and stone was valuable at the time so we didn't wanna waste it on useless tools. we made these town worlds, where we named it a city name, and then. built a huge town with all our wacky ideas in it. like when we discovered the game Granny, I made a Granny house twice. My brother built a man eating a building. we liked putting stuff in the chests and putting thought into our builds. like putting food in the cupboards of houses. the only maps we knew of where older maps from 2011-2014 where they were huge but the chests had nothing in them or the buildings were hollow. and we wanted personality and color to our builds. what I'm saying is that we had fun even though we didn't understand progression, and we didn't know what anything was. thats what also made it special. The mystery of not knowing what anything is. nowadays I'll go on creative and check everything out in the new update instead of just letting myself find it in game and be like, "what's this?" I remember when we thought that mob eggs were mushrooms, and one day my brother placed one (the ghast) and was shocked. he told us and we went crazy. we spammed mobs til our hearts content. I have so many more stories than this huge yap fest, but yeah. It's not just the versions, It's you.
My first minecraft experience was on my mum's phone back in like 2017. A year later, I used christmas money to purchase the java edition of minecraft. Nowadays, I have nostalgia of that time of minecraft, when I was first learning how to install 1.12.2 mods like world edit that I though were the coolest thing in the world. But, the thing is, I'm able to recognise that, I wasn't nostalgic about that era of minecraft, I was nostalgic about the wonder and amazement and sense of accomplishment that playing on a survival world for a long time, having a nice house and sugar cane farm, gave me. This is why I hate constantly seeing videos like 'It isn't nostalgia! Old minecraft was just better!' because, when you really think about it, it really just is nostalgia. I genuinely think that older versions of minecraft ARE worse because of their lack of features contrasted with today's features. It doesn't mean they're bad though, just that they have less stuff. I only ever go back to play 1.12 because of the mods. And I've played a lot of older minecraft versions because of the nostalgia videos. I have a ton of respect for old minecraft, but I prefer new minecraft. Being significantly younger than the people who make these videos, I have nostalgia from a different time than they do and, consequently, find it easier to seperate the time from the game version. You're right, old minecraft was almost an entirely different game contrasted with modern versions. People have preferences, and some people need to learn that not everybody wants to build all fucking day and look at the view.
Couldn't have explained it better. It indeed is nostalgia. And people who do genuinely prefer the older would love thriller and horror games like amnesia and SCP. I play Minecraft since beta 1.8 and I also sometimes feel nostalgic about it but returning back for a nostalgia rush it didn't felt special as before
I'm happy coming back every update to Play survival or update mine creative world (the same since 1.12) or Play on server with friends or Play some mods or download some maps there are so many possibilities
i may of not played old minecraft, but if anything, minecraft is more of a sandbox game, you can do more then what you were able to do before and you don't have to kill the enderdragon, but if you wanted too, you can! and the keyword is feels i guess, because it doesn't mean its true
@@ooaktree I was trying to say that Minecraft is more of a survival game now than it was back then because there's an end. Minecraft is still a sandbox, sure, but it's more of a survival game. Just because it has more stuff doesn't mean it's more of a sandbox game.
That's basically what the game aimed to be. It's what YOU made it. I think that's the problem nowadays with the updates who basically force You to do x and y instead of giving you tools to express your imagination. That's why Minecraft made it from the beginning, the only limit was your imagination (and the world limits lol).
What are you talking about? It doesn't force you to _do_ anything. In fact, it gives you WAY more tools to express your imagination then old Minecraft ever had. Just because people don't know how to make intrinsic motivation anymore doesn't mean the game "forces you to do x and y." Its entirely up to the player whether or not they interact with the game's features.
@@lasercraft32 Some of the newer updates add items that are unobtainable without doing "x and y" as I said. Microsoft focuses on the challenge aspect now. You can't get the full experience just from being a good builder. It's technically good, but gets boring after some time.
I was born on the day that minecraft first officialy came out and started to like the game when i was like 3 (yes three!) Still love the game. Think it is like infinity times better than Fortnite
I don't get this take... How is it "no longer a sandbox game like it used to be?" The game is easier now than it ever was before, and there are tons and tons of tools and enchantments that make building significantly easier than it used to be, and there's a TON of blocks to work with. Its more of a sandbox now than it was before.
@@lasercraft32 Sandbox games are mostly games where you can do whatever you want, and theres no main goal or end. Nowadays theres more of a focus and endgoal, but before it was just creativity, it was a sandbox

i mean you can just avoid the structures, it isn't that hard, and there's more blocks, more items to use for your builds, that if anything makes it more creative
