I appreciate your way of thinking. If you don't know how to acquire Vedas, it does not mean Vedas and their proper meaning did not exist. It is easy to ask some scientist to show an electron, but it is very difficult for a scientist to show an electron to a person who does not have science back ground. Similarly if you don't know that science and math has developed from Vedas, do research and find out instead of just criticizing. Zero is their in the number system in Vedas, but you did not understand. In the Mantra that I have shown we have the number 10 in that. Ten does not come without zero. Also we have different Mantras to tell a lot about Mathematics. We cannot show everything in one instance. Can you ask a mathematician to show how the computer does integration of a function? He can show only those persons who know about how a computer calculates and then put it in form. Can you ask a Scientist to show Sun rays in one hour? Can a scientist show you a nucleus in one hour? He can only make you understand if you are a science student who has some science knowledge that too after teaching you for ten years or so. Similarly Vedas have to be learned and not criticized.

In my view it is not necessary but if in the sankalpam you want to mention what you are about to do, then it is good to say each time. Otherwise not necessary.

Sir, I am an ordinary person asking ? Your information is good. But how much vedas helped the country to develop in all dimensions( in achieving growth of our nation). You are saying mantras, maths, physics, chemistry etc., are there in vedas why cant they be used for the development of our nation. As per Him, He is seated in the hearts of all living entities. He Himself is Sun, Moon, Wind & Fire. He Himself is Lord of wealth, Spiritual word Om, river Ganges, Lakshmi, Saraswati & other Goddesses of fame, memory, intelligence, steadfastness and patience. So from the above every thing is done by god himself but why you are questioning her. (Criticizing by her was also done by god himself).

Namastey, You can read books written by Pandit Gopdev Shastry garu. You will get his books in Shree Vidya Book Store opposite to Arya Samaj Mandir. In any case you have to learn Sanskrit if you want to learn it yourself. Some times the translators can make mistakes and you will be confused. Therefore knowing Sanskrit will avoid confusion.

The reason we have taken up Ranganayakamma's writings is that she has poisoned the Telugu society by many ways. She accepted that she doesn't know Sanskrit and by looking at the translators version she concluded some nonsense. This is called poisoning the society. If she really wants to say something wrong about the Vedas, she has to learn Sanskrit and then criticize if she thinks something is wrong. That is why we have taken her writings first. 2. Vedas are not Brahmins property. Vedas belong to everyone in this Universe and everyone has a right to learn them. If you want to learn learn Sanskrit and then learn Vedas. No one can stop you and Eshwar will bless you. 3. There is no caste system in Vedas. Those who learn Vedas and follow them by teaching Vedas to those who are interested will be called as Brahmins. Veda Vyasa was born to Rishi Parasara and Satyavathi (belonging to fishing society). But he learned Vedas and he became a Rishi. Vishwamitra was a king and became a Rishi by doing Penance. Similarly Drona was a Brahmin and became a part of Royal society by becoming a king. If a Muslim wants to become a Hindu, no one can stop him/her. It is impossible not to be drawn towards your supreme command on Veda's. I had great respect for Sri Ranganayakamma but after watching this my respect for her just waned!
There no point in discussing Sanskrit grammar and other irrelevant issues leaving the points raised by Ranganayakamma garu. There is no point in finding fault with the translation .It is a fact that vedas basically deal with procedure of rituals, caste system and connected rules, to preserve the same and maintain status quo. Please read "Tradition, Science and Society" by S Balachandra Rao who has studied the vedas in original Sanskrit and who has written on the contents of vedas. It is a fact vedas do not contain any science. Please also see the commentary by Premnath Bazaz on Bhaghavad Gita which is available on internet freely down loadable. I request all the NRIs settled in USA and elsewhere, instead spending money on constructing temples, donate the money to strengthen libraries in India for purchasing books on STEM subjects ,to research institutes to conduct research in basic sciences, medical sciences. Also money can be donated to improve the school buildings, infra structure ,computers, toilet facilities etc. Also for construction of houses and toilet facilities for the poorer sections of population.
So you did not learn Vedas nor Sanskrit but depend upon whatever is suitable to you. You are not able to learn Vedas and I think you don't have the mental strength to learn. That is why you are commenting in this manner. If your references read Vedas in Sanskrit, then they can never comment that those are rituals. I think you have to come a long way and learn.

Very spirited defence by highly educated professionals, professing superior knowledge of Vedas. But very prejudicial and lacking in objectivity. It is obvious they are totally ignorant of Ranganayakamma's credentials (and did not bother do find out, not even a rudimentary check). Otherwise they would have learnt that the lady was an accomplished and highly admired novelist during the 60's and 70's who later was attracted to Marxism and translated Karl Marx's 'Das Capital' into Telugu, besides penning a critical version of ramayana titled 'Ramayana Visha Vriksham' (some say it was to cock a snook at 'Ramayana Kalpa Vriksham' of Kavi Samrat Viswanatha) which raised quite a storm during the seventies. Coming to the topic, I can see that her treatise on Vedas (if I may say so) was being criticised for not being based on the Sanskrit 'original', but relying solely on five different translations / commentaries by five Telugu Scholars like Dasarathi Rangacharya. The entire argument and criticism of the Professor was on the premise that the Vedas were ORIGINALLY written in Sanskrit.... Can you please confirm that the Vedas were ORIGINALLY WRITTEN in Sanskrit?
Dear Sunil Peluri garu, Sanskrit is the language of Vedas. The scripts were not originally written but given to four Rishis. From there the transfer of knowledge took place.

You might have heard that Vedas are given in Girvanna. Sanskrit and Girvanna language are same. Some people might got confused because of not learning Vedas.
So according to you Ranganayakamma Garu is an embodiment of objectivity as she came out of the Marxism school of thought and this professor of Physics is not! She may be a good novelist ie., writing fiction in Telugu or a practicing Marxist. But this does not confer on her requisite qualification to write on Vedas. She does not simply have the requisite knowledge of sanskrit first of all to understand, leave alone to write commentary , on Vedas. I want yo give a simple analogy. Many of us can read, write and understand English to some extent. Now books of Engineering and Medicine are available in English. Consider a person not from Engineering/ medical background, but yet capable of reading English tries to comment on the work of say Engineering Mechanics by Timoshenko or some standard medical text and tries to find fault, should we give any credence to such a work or person? Now coming specifically to your question in which language Vedas were written , let me first submit to you sir the reason why sanskrit is called Devabhasha - the Sanskrit alphabet are on the petals of Sahasradal Kamal and those who are fortunate enough to go " inward" can see. (You can verify in spiritual books written by masters.) Since Vedas were given by God Himself, obviously they were in Deva bhasha the language of Gods, ie Sanskrit. The only way to verify is either you must believe the word of saints who enuncuated it or you must take the help of a Guru . If you apply Marxian theory, rejected all over the world to verify this, you will only be going round and round in circles.

It is not necessary. To comment on any of our scriptures or puranas one should have knowledge. We know she didn't know sanskrit. Without following the moolas( roots) of anything, by just following translations or vyakhyanas of anything no body can make a judgement on anything. So we shouldn't pay attention to her writings. But people like Venkat sir who are well versed should raise their voice and condemn such writings. Otherwise our religion and it's preachings become laughable to people like ranganayakamma. We Hindus are feeling hurt by these people.

Namastey Kumar garu, Each Veda Manthra is associated with name of a Rishi, Devatha of the Manthra, Chandass, and Svara. Rishi name is that person who first did penance on the name of the Devatha and got the meaning of the Manthra, it's Chandass, and Svara from the Almighty Eshwar. Then that Rishi published the meaning of the Manthra to the world. Here published is not print media but publish means he gave the details of the Manthra to those who wanted to know about that Veda Manthra. In doing so he detailed every word, its vibhakthi, vyakaranna, meaning etc. This is how the next generation learned and again taught the upcoming generation. This system went on for millions of years till today. During this time some kings have asked the Rishis to compile the Vyakaranna, Nigantu etc. and the generous Rishis did for learning the meanings easily. Now if anyone wants to write the meaning of the Manthra, he/she requires to go through all those writings and then give the meaning. Without which we may be misleading the actuals. For example in English the words later and latter are pronounced in almost similar way. But the usage is completely different. Until you know the meaning and context, you cannot interpret the subject properly. Now coming to the point "Can a Manthra have several meanings?". The answer is "YES" but you have to first read the original Rishi's description and then on that lines you have to get the meanings. For example the word 'Indra' can have a variety of meanings like 'Vaayu (Air)', 'Sun', 'Vishnu', 'Agni' etc. But each one of the words have their own meaning. Therefore if in a Manthra I get the word Indra, then should I use it as 'Vaayu', 'Sun', 'Vishnu', or 'Agni' or a combination of things? Here we have consider the Suktha Prakarannam, Rishi whose name is associated with the Manthra, Devatha of the Manthra, Chandass, and Svara. Based on many things we have to carefully get the meaning. Apart from all these, we have to do penance to get the meaning. I appreciate your way of thinking. If you don't know how to acquire Vedas, it does not mean Vedas and their proper meaning did not exist. It is easy to ask some scientist to show an electron, but it is very difficult for a scientist to show an electron to a person who does not have science back ground. Similarly if you don't know that science and math has developed from Vedas, do research and find out instead of just criticizing. Zero is their in the number system in Vedas, but you did not understand. In the Mantra that I have shown we have the number 10 in that. Ten does not come without zero. Also we have different Mantras to tell a lot about Mathematics. We cannot show everything in one instance. Can you ask a mathematician to show how the computer does integration of a function? He can show only those persons who know about how a computer calculates and then put it in form. Can you ask a Scientist to show Sun rays in one hour? Can a scientist show you a nucleus in one hour? He can only make you understand if you are a science student who has some science knowledge that too after teaching you for ten years or so. Similarly Vedas have to be learned and not criticized.

You are saying mantras, maths, physics, chemistry etc., are there in vedas why cant they be used for the development of our nation. She has done the same : "Only foolish learn from the experience - the wise learn from experience of others" . So she has taken the input of the experience people who are well versed in sanskrit. You can't question the knowledge of other person. Critic needs more input than learner.
In Bhagwat Gita Chapter Ten, Lord Krishna is himself saying that He is the source of all beings & gods. As per Him, He is seated in the hearts of all living entities. He Himself is Sun, Moon, Wind & Fire. He Himself is Lord of wealth, Spiritual word Om, river Ganges, Lakshmi, Saraswati & other Goddesses of fame, memory, intelligence, steadfastness and patience.

In any case you have to learn Sanskrit if you want to learn it yourself. Some times the translators can make mistakes and you will be confused. Therefore knowing Sanskrit will avoid confusion.

The reason we have taken up Ranganayakamma's writings is that she has poisoned the Telugu society by many ways. She accepted that she doesn't know Sanskrit and by looking at the translators version she concluded some nonsense. This is called poisoning the society. If she really wants to say something wrong about the Vedas, she has to learn Sanskrit and then criticize if she thinks something is wrong. That is why we have taken her writings first. 2. Vedas are not Brahmins property. Vedas belong to everyone in this Universe and everyone has a right to learn them. If you want to learn learn Sanskrit and then learn Vedas. There no point in discussing Sanskrit grammar and other irrelevant issues leaving the points raised by Ranganayakamma garu.
There is no point in finding fault with the translation .It is a fact that vedas basically deal with procedure of rituals, caste system and connected rules, to preserve the same and maintain status quo. Please read "Tradition, Science and Society" by S Balachandra Rao who has studied the vedas in original Sanskrit and who has written on the contents of vedas. It is a fact vedas do not contain any science. Please also see the commentary by Premnath Bazaz on Bhaghavad Gita which is available on internet freely down loadable.
I request all the NRIs settled in USA and elsewhere, instead spending money on constructing temples, donate the money to strengthen libraries in India for purchasing books on STEM subjects ,to research institutes to conduct research in basic sciences, medical sciences. Also money can be donated to improve the school buildings, infra structure ,computers, toilet facilities etc. Also for construction of houses and toilet facilities for the poorer sections of population.
So you did not learn Vedas nor Sanskrit but depend upon whatever is suitable to you. You are not able to learn Vedas and I think you don't have the mental strength to learn. That is why you are commenting in this manner. If your references read Vedas in Sanskrit, then they can never comment that those are rituals. I think you have to come a long way and learn.

Very spirited defence by highly educated professionals, professing superior knowledge of Vedas. But very prejudicial and lacking in objectivity. It is obvious they are totally ignorant of Ranganayakamma's credentials (and did not bother do find out, not even a rudimentary check). Otherwise they would have learnt that the lady was an accomplished and highly admired novelist during the 60's and 70's who later was attracted to Marxism and translated Karl Marx's 'Das Capital' into Telugu, besides penning a critical version of ramayana titled 'Ramayana Visha Vriksham' (some say it was to cock a snook at 'Ramayana Kalpa Vriksham' of Kavi Samrat Viswanatha) which raised quite a storm during the seventies.
Coming to the topic, I can see that her treatise on Vedas (if I may say so) was being criticised for not being based on the Sanskrit 'original', but relying solely on five different translations / commentaries by five Telugu Scholars like Dasarathi Rangacharya. The entire argument and criticism of the Professor was on the premise that the Vedas were ORIGINALLY written in Sanskrit....

You might have heard that Vedas are given in Girvanna. Sanskrit and Girvanna language are same. Some people might got confused because of not learning Vedas.
So according to you Ranganayakamma Garu is an embodiment of objectivity as she came out of the Marxism school of thought and this professor of Physics is not! She may be a good novelist ie., writing fiction in Telugu or a practicing Marxist. But this does not confer on her requisite qualification to write on Vedas. She does not simply have the requisite knowledge of sanskrit first of all to understand, leave alone to write commentary , on Vedas. I want yo give a simple analogy. Many of us can read, write and understand English to some extent. Now books of Engineering and Medicine are available in English. Consider a person not from Engineering/ medical background, but yet capable of reading English tries to comment on the work of say Engineering Mechanics by Timoshenko or some standard medical text and tries to find fault, should we give any credence to such a work or person? Now coming specifically to your question in which language Vedas were written , let me first submit to you sir the reason why sanskrit is called Devabhasha - the Sanskrit alphabet are on the petals of Sahasradal Kamal and those who are fortunate enough to go " inward" can see. (You can verify in spiritual books written by masters.) Since Vedas were given by God Himself, obviously they were in Deva bhasha the language of Gods, ie Sanskrit. The only way to verify is either you must believe the word of saints who enuncuated it or you must take the help of a Guru . If you apply Marxian theory, rejected all over the world to verify this, you will only be going round and round in circles.

It is not necessary. To comment on any of our scriptures or puranas one should have knowledge. We know she didn't know sanskrit. Without following the moolas( roots) of anything, by just following translations or vyakhyanas of anything no body can make a judgement on anything. So we shouldn't pay attention to her writings. But people like Venkat sir who are well versed should raise their voice and condemn such writings. Otherwise our religion and it's preachings become laughable to people like ranganayakamma. We Hindus are feeling hurt by these people.

Namastey Kumar garu, Each Veda Manthra is associated with name of a Rishi, Devatha of the Manthra, Chandass, and Svara. Rishi name is that person who first did penance on the name of the Devatha and got the meaning of the Manthra, it's Chandass, and Svara from the Almighty Eshwar. Then that Rishi published the meaning of the Manthra to the world. Here published is not print media but publish means he gave the details of the Manthra to those who wanted to know about that Veda Manthra. In doing so he detailed every word, its vibhakthi, vyakaranna, meaning etc. This is how the next generation learned and again taught the upcoming generation. This system went on for millions of years till today. During this time some kings have asked the Rishis to compile the Vyakaranna, Nigantu etc. and the generous Rishis did for learning the meanings easily. Now if anyone wants to write the meaning of the Manthra, he/she requires to go through all those writings and then give the meaning. Without which we may be misleading the actuals. For example in English the words later and latter are pronounced in almost similar way. But the usage is completely different. Until you know the meaning and context, you cannot interpret the subject properly. Now coming to the point "Can a Manthra have several meanings?". The answer is "YES" but you have to first read the original Rishi's description and then on that lines you have to get the meanings. For example the word 'Indra' can have a variety of meanings like 'Vaayu (Air)', 'Sun', 'Vishnu', 'Agni' etc. But each one of the words have their own meaning. Therefore if in a Manthra I get the word Indra, then should I use it as 'Vaayu', 'Sun', 'Vishnu', or 'Agni' or a combination of things? Here we have consider the Suktha Prakarannam, Rishi whose name is associated with the Manthra, Devatha of the Manthra, Chandass, and Svara. Based on many things we have to carefully get the meaning. Apart from all these, we have to do penance to get the meaning.
