- G'day Aussie Bonsai Bloke ere how ya goin.
Hi guys hope everyone is ramping up for Christmas.
In this video we revisit the slab planting I did a few months back and see how it's going.
It has survived its repot jist fine even tough I was super worried about it.
I also show my method of pruning it mallee style
Enjoy the video and hope you get some tips.
This method is proving to be a super easy way to develop my trees and also look natural
Merry Xmas everyone and stay suff but have a lot of fun. Thanks again for all your support 🙏 ❤️
Sam you’re a top bloke! After the year you & your family had last/this year it’s great, no awesome to see you back! Don’t personally know you but my heart and prayers go out to you and your family. Try to keep moving forward brother. The bonsai world is a caring world in my experience so much love from the UK Bruce.
Cheers mate all we can do is try to move forward and make tge most of what's left.
Have a great holiday mate
Maybe sit the slab on a container where the slab can wick up moisture if the container is able to hold the right amount of water
Plus I reckon the way you do these are most realistic miniature native bonsai I've seen
Great idea. Have thought of this also. Will have to try and find an appropriate container. Merry Xmas.
Sam please know that you are giving me strength through my own insignificant difficulties. Praying for you all 👍
Thanks mate. Stay tough 💪
What a cool trunk on this tree, a triple. I like the foliage on it.
It's looking really good Sam, love the technique and the results!!
I saw this pop up and just thought to share it with you! I like how this technique gives the billowy cloud look.
Cheers Nigel. I think this technique seems to suit them really well. Possibly could work on some broadleaf and deciduous but not all I think 😃😃
I love the naturalistic look of this tree. It definitely looks like trees you will see in nature. ❤
Cheers mate. Definitely the look I'm trying to achieve so this comment makes me happy 😊
You have some nice weather your way. Cold here in the windy city. 12F/-11.C with a windchill of 0F/-17.77C. I like the moss around the tree.
Pruning brought out the canopy on this tree. Great finish to a cool looking tree.
Cheers mate, appreciate it
Im not brave enough to slabb pot a Mel, theyre already hard enough to keep alive lol. Brilliant job on the tree, your technique is defintely working.
Cheers mate. Yeh it is a bit of work on the water front now 😃

Great vid Sam really enjoyed it.
Superb tree mate.
Merry Xmas Sammy, that tree is a cracker mate. I hope I have one like it soon. Started bonsai 1 year ago and I'm starting alot of trees from seed. Unbelievable almost, that this was tube stock 5-6 years ago. This made me happy and hopeful. Ledgend mate👍👍
Cheers mate. Good for you starting from seed. You'll be amazed in a few years how busy you are and how quick they progress. Enjoy and happy holidays
Merry Christmas!!!
Happy Holidays!
Great sound
Appreciate it! 😊
Hi Sam, this melaleuca looks great. You really capture the natural style of the Aussie trees, not the typical triangle shape. Keep up the good work, and Merry Christmas, Mate.
Thanks mate and appreciate the feedback. Happy holidays
Good to see you Sam, love your style on the natives... see you in 2025
Cheers mate. See you then!
The tree looks great since planting! The new mic sounds much better.

Great looking tree Sam! It looks so lush and green. Of course I haven’t seen anything like that here but I have seen them on your property and your bonsai looks very similar to those. Wishing you a happy and peaceful Christmas!
Thanks for the feedback and have a great holiday with lots of friends 🧡
Now that's a tree! Now that's a beard!
Ha ha cheers mate
Looking good. Have a good xmas
Cheers mate, you too!
Excellent tree! It's really looking like a tree you would see in nature. Love it!
You guys are roasting in Australia, and here in Wisconsin, USA, we're freezing with bitter cold wind chills of -13°F.
Appreciate it! Stay warm mate! 🥶
Amazing looking tree Sam. Audio was great! Merry Christmas mate 👍
Cheers mate and appreciate the feedback
Audio sounds fantastic Sam.
Thanks for the feedback 😀
merry christmas mate......thx brother
Merry Xmas brother. Cheers for the watch
Merry Christmas sam
Looks like bracteata. They smell great when you cut the leaves. I have a literati of this tree.
Cheers mate, they are a great tree for bonsai.
Keep up the good work sam, been pretty wet here in Sydney
Cheers mate
fukken hell.......thats as dry as a pommy's bloody bar of soap, mate
The audio was perfect mate. If it does start playing up, it's usually the connection that goes from the receiver to the phone. You can set the microphone part of the Rode Wireless Go II to keep a recording as well and then use the audio off that in editing, depends how much work you want to do in processing. Nice tree, the slab planting suits it too 👍
Cheers for the feedback mate. Glad it worked well. I was aware of recording but didn't want to take the next learning curve in the editing. I may have to learn how to overlay sound in the future in case of an issue. Old bloke like me struggle to learn new skills 🤣
@@SamDoeckeAussiebonsaibloke Yeah it's a bit of a pain in the arse to have to overlay the audio track and get it to line up properly. I find when I use the Rode mic with the GoPro there's always a hiss on the audio that's recorded on the Gopro. When I bought my last new phone a couple years ago I bought one with no headphone port (muppet) 😂 so I have no choice really but to use the recording direct off the mic. The Audio on this video was fine so you might be right👍
Good video mate, happy to see you back. More natural styling is getting more attention around the bonsai world now. I got one like that probably melaleuca bracteata?
Cheers mate 👍
Are the cuttings easy to root?
I think no. They are easy from seed though
Well you are my newest best friend. I had a melaleuca basically the same as yours. Grew from a bird dropping i think around 10 years ago. I have been mucking around with it cut and grow for branches etc. this method you just showed got me saying yes. As mine is around 1metre tall now in a large plastic container and is growing madly with new growth going wild. So in the middle of your video i went out done 4 branches out of many and thought THANK you looks so different and stunning. 😄👍🇦🇺🦘
Wow that's soo cool to hear. It's soo easy and you get instant results from the method.
Soo glad.it worked for you. Merry xmas
Technical tip Sam, the sound would be marginally better if you shaved off the beard 😂😂😂 .... you are spot on with the method, just sorted out a Melaleuca I was given in the same way, copied your mallee style from a year or so back 👍👍
Beard is close to going mate. A new one will grow back soon enough 🤣
Glad you gave this style a go 😀
Mic 🎤 works well 😅
4 trunks?
Surely i would break the rules of odd trunks 🤔🤔
