Please talk about Sommon Spirits after this series.
Hey Aaron can you make a video of what super smash bros ultimate can get DLC bosses and bosses from brawl
What if make a video of what if DLC stages and stages been rejected from 64 melee brawl and 3ds and Wii U
What if we get DLC music 🎵 if some Nintendo games music 🎶 are not in super smash bros ultimate
You know what else what if Sakurai makes a DLC story mode of super smash bros ultimate like subspace emmisary 2 tabuu strikes 🪧 back
I also think Kamek’s “easy to launch” condition might be a reference to how he got swatted away really easily by Bowser in New Super Mario Bros. Wii
I find it really funny how the mechakoopa spirit battle doesn’t use bowser Jr spamming his down special, which is a mechakoopa
Invisible Jr. with a down special condition really made more sense, I thought the same thing while making this video
So it is true! Smart people do think alike.
Lol fr
Nintendo is a real mysterious company
Or better yet Larry since he looks the most like a Mecha Koopa out of BJ’s Alts
Including Lips’s Stick in the Wiggler fight is doubly smart because naturally the player will use it against Yoshi, which would not only put Wiggler’s flower on his head, but also damage him faster, and therefore cause him to become “enraged” faster.
Missing Fact: In the King Bob-omb Spirit Battle, the Bob-ombs items are a reference to "Super Mario 64 DS" where in the battle angainst King Bob-omb he throws you Bob-ombs but only if you play as Yoshi.
Oh God, I just realized that eventually he’s going to have to explain why Paz’s battle contains Bob-Ombs as a hazard…
I mean it’s over used but…
*emotional damage.*
I'd like to point out that another possible reason for the Plessie spirit being fought on Great Bay is because the stage also prominently features the giant sea turtle, another large aquatic reptile.
33:34 I think it's mainly because Fossil Falls is the main theme of Super Mario Odyssey. It's used in a lot more situations than NDC Festival, even being featured in the credits (which is unfortunately not playable in Super Mario Odyssey's music list). Using NDC Festival was just a way to advertise the game more than anything.
The thing I like the most about this video series is how unbiased the characters are described and explained. Key info is not skipped just because it's a famous one : you do not assume it's obvious for everyone. That is a very good professional reporter-like quality in the wordings.
We're so grateful for your effort Aaronitmar. Breaks are important & it's completely understandable if you want to take breaks.
27:55
This whole video was great and all, but we can't ignore this masterpiece of an item play
Finally someone notices
There being 3 Warios is probably a reference to the Splittin' Chuck, who splits into 3 Chargin' Chucks when you get too close, before all 3 then gang up on you
Thanks for making this series, but please don't get burnt out!
correction: Wart is a FROG, not a reptile. Also his Japanese name is Mamu, which is the name used for his appearance in Link's Awakening worldwide.
Yep, both frogs and toads are amphibians, not reptiles.
Both games he appears in are dreams, is Wart actually real?
@@maxspecs asking the important questions there....I'd assume yes since many of the enemies Mario encountered in that dream were seen "IRL" later so he very likely does. Maybe taking over Subcon was just part of his evil plan....Link's Awakening could just be a non evil variant or a literal figment of Link's subconscious....
@@newageBoundhippie There was a sequel to mario 2 on the satellaview where it was revealed to be real.
Good video!
One minor suggestion is to also talk about the used for the origin of the artwork used for the spirits. Some of them are straightforward, like it being the same game it debutted in, but there are also from fairly interesting ones. For example:
1) A lot of the Mario (+sub-series) Fighter spirits came from is rather interesting, as a lot comes from seemingly random modern Mario games.
------ Peach and Bowser's artworks come from New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
------ Luigi and Daisy's comes from Mario Party 8.
------ Mario, Yoshi, and Rosalina's comes from Mario Party 10.
2) Some spirits, like the Boom Boom and Hothead ones from this video, doesn't actually use any official artwork, but instead uses in-game renders. Boom Boom's spirit comes from his in-game render from 3D World, while Hothead's in-game render comes from Ultimate.
3) The vast majority of the Sonic spirits comes from the Sonic Channel. When Ultimate first came out, the Sonic spirits (except for Infinite) was incorrectly ordered according to the character page from the Sonic Channel. This was fixed at patch 1.1.0.
4) A few instances of artwork changing from the original game, with the most common reason being censorship for Ultimate's E10+ rating (like with Camilla, Mythra, and Dracula).
I love that you play fitting characters against each spirit battle.
12:50 I wonder if Peach was chosen because of how the last time Hotheads ever appeared was in her solo game where they couldn't be destroyed, even by her gloom power, which can clear some fire obstacles in the game. (The only other appearance besides SMW, Smash Bros and Super Princess Peach was e-reader levels in Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros 3)
Really?
Really?
Are you Serious?
What's also notable about the Chargin' Chuck spirit battle is that there USED to be 4 Warios in version 1.0.0 until being reduced to 3 in a later patch for some reason. The only spirit battle I know of that was actually changed in a patch. Perhaps too hard for new World of Light players?
The only fight I know that changed post-launch is the Rex spirit. Without DLC, his fight had a lava floor, but if Pyra/Mythra is downloaded, the lava floor is removed.
Not sure why they changed that. I guess they found it too redundant with the Pyra spirit battle, which was pretty identical to the Rex spirit battle aside from it being tougher on account of it being a legend class spirit.
@@the_bookworm8281 The Wesker Spirit changed too. The Battle was at first on the Shadow Moses Island Stage in Ω-Form with , but they changed it to the Nofair Ω-Form Stage. They changed the reference from a Hangar to a Vulcan for whatever reason.
@@Myrrmoasta It is likely to reference the final battle versus him in Resident Evil 5, where it takes place in an active volcano. The metal shift rule in his fight references his transformation to the metallic Uroboros Wesker during that fight.
They might've changed the stage to better represent the metal shift ability.
The sheer amount of work that goes into a video like this cannot be understated. Not only writing and summarizing all the characters but also recording all the audio, capturing game footage for every spirit and synching up that footage so each game ends when the description is finished. Sure to do it a few times in a video probably would take a normal amount of editing but you literally covered 30 spirits in one video. 👏 bravo and much respect.
14:35 "It's time to celebrate Wiggler Wednesday" That genuinely took me off guard. Well played
"Wart is a giant lizard monster" No Aaron, he's a frog, and an amphibian no less. Also, editing error at 32:22, turn it down.
Lmao
Actually he’s a toad
*pushes nerd glasses up
To be fair amphibians don't have claws so I don't blame him
Love these vids, I can't imagine how much work they are. I'd love if you covered where the artwork for a lot of these spirits comes from as some have some pretty interesting origins, especially the non-nintendo characters later down the line and some of the retro spirits!
I love The thumbnail art on ur origin videos especially this one bc king bob omb is one cool bob omb
Aaronitmar u are awesome or insane for the idea of going through the whole spirit origins, keep making great content 👍 and Good luck with this series
0:30 imagine he just said: “Doki Doki Literature Club.” I would be scarred to know Shy Guy was from a dating simulator
Way to go! Your originality with these smash origins is wild. Keep it on!
i would just like to say that i really like how the battle ends as soon as your done talking about the facts of the spirits. really nice editing 👍 love it.
I can hardly wait for the rest of this series! Spirit battles were one of my favorite aspects of the game, with eack one being carefully crafted to emulate the source material accurately, and they did it well!
31:04 The brief history of one of the most atrocious Spirits in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
A few bonus things:
Shy Guy: I'd have just said that Shy Guy going after items is referencing the main SMB2 gimmick of throwing items. Paper Mario also had them use an assortment of items in battles, as well as haven stolen items in that chapter.
Boo: Kirby was originally a white color on the box art for Kirby's Dream Land, which lead some to believe Kirby himself was a ghost. Like the Boo.
Hothead: The items primarily grow via fire or electric attacks, aided by Pac-Man's curry.
What a great project. Nothing to brag about, I did that kind of spirit's origin series(though I researches only spirits appear in story mode and dlc boards) long ago, so I expect this series so much for sense of belonging! Good luck for research those bunch of spirits!
Super Mario Land is mad underrepresented tbh.
It has some of the most unique worlds in Mario's 2D history, beating out literally every New Super Mario Bros game and I would argue only has an equal in SMB3 because SMB3 established the very world themes that would later become the staples we're now kinda tired of seeing.
Daisy is here and that's amazing, and the one remix it has is one of my favorite tracks in all of Smash Bros, but damn if it doesn't have very little.
I love SML2's Worlds
Thanks Aaron for all the research you put on your videos, I been enjoying so much your content
Giving a suggestion: when talking about extra Mario spirits, there should be in its own separate catagory as promotional spirits, spirits that correspond to the game that's being promoted at the time such as Links awaking on Switch, Bowsers Fury, Cuphead, Resident Evil, Etc.
Missed opportunity to have the Mechakoopa fight be against Bowser Jr.s spamming down B
I'm still baffled for the mechakoopa spirit, you're not facing a team of Bowser Jr.'s instead who favor their down Bs. That makes a lot more sense
14:12 I think this is a reference to Chargin' Chucks being able to split into three in Mario World, hence why there's exactly three Warios
I learned alot from and for that I'm thankful. It's frickin amazing!😭😭😭
One thing about Doki Doki Panic is that the prototype for the game used Mario characters. The idea came later to make it into DDP, and the SMB2 was conceived. So, SMB2 is what the game was originally meant to be.
This was amazing I can't wait for the next episode
Good idea of video. Please continue with every series :)
Great Balls of Fire!
I'm excited to see this one back!
The "subcon deez nuts lol" took me a minute.
Bravo.
fun fact: spirit number 749 is Solid Snake
also minor note, there is an enemy in the third level of Donkey Kong Jr that is very similar to how a Hothead works
Ya forgot to mention that Rosalina and Luma's Side B are Star Bits, which is what is fed to the Hungry Lumas, so Rosalina being there could be a reference to that too
Pretty sure Big Urchin was laveled next to Super Mario World enemies because Urchin as a specie started in that game instead of NWMB Wii.
Also, Big Bob-Omb being distracted by Bob-Ombs could be based on his new gimmick in the DS version, throwing Bob-Ombs that Yoshi can spit back to him.
I didn't think you would actually take this on. Good luck.
31:38 This fight can go straight to hell
What are some enemy character swaps for spirit battles if all the dlc characters were incorporated? Like why Aaron played as plant during the nipper battle.
The Ice Climber Polar Bear spirit would definitely take the form of Banjo.
3:31. Small error. In doki doki panic. Mouser is the boss for world 1, 3 and 5. However in mario 2. Mouser was removed from world 5 and replaced by clawgrip.
Wait this man is talking about all the spirits… you mad one…
For the charging chuck, there is a variant which splits into three before attacking (splitting chuck, I think), which explains why you need to fight three.
Chargin Chucks appeared more recently in Mario Golf Super Rush
Thanks Aaron Very cool
Thanks. My fave might be The Odyssey
I thought that Shy Guy's spirit battle had increased throwing items was because shy guy was a projectile type enemy in Bowser's Minions and Bowser Jr.'s Journey, but I guess if they were trying to reference the many types of shy guys instead, that would make sense.
This could be a reach but I think the increased shield durability with the Boo spirit could also be a nod to its Defense stat in Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga where it has a whooping 1000 Def. That’s even more than the final boss. Great job with the video, Aaronitmar.
The Odyssey fight having Jigglypuff being hard to launch and frequently shielding is a reference to how the ship has a balloon on top and you're supposed to defeat it by popping the shield
Dear lord, he's doing _WHAT?!_
Jigllypuff is know as the baloon pokemon and he floats like a ballon, and the odissey when you collect a certain amount of moons looks like a hot air baloon. I think this was the main reason they chosen jigglypuff on that spirit. Also wierd that none of the lumas is represent by the actual luma that is literally half of a fitgher
4:31 Did you just call _a frog_ a reptile?
They're both cold-blooded and green-skinned but they're _not_ both reptiles.
If there's gonna be a full on series for all the spirits, good luck
If anything this video just demonstrates why we absolutely need a proper Bowser castle/fortress stage in Smash 6
The multiple Warios in the Chargin’ Chuck fight is probably a reference to a specific variety of Chargin’ Chuck. One type will split into 3 Chucks who will charge you down together.
If your sanity stays intact by the end of this series, I want you to go over every enhanceable spirit.
18:22
Cereal when have's milk vs Cereal when no milk
This is going to be a long series
I think the Super and Poison Mushrooms in the Pianta fight would be more of a reference to some Piantas being smaller than others, rather than simply a Mario connection; otherwise, why would there be just mushrooms, no stars or Fire Bars or other items that debuted in the Mario series, after all? Though I've at least never seen any Piantas being bigger than usual, but I've not played much Sunshine, so I don't know.
Mechakoopas reappear in the New Super Mario Bros. series. And either they got redesigned or a similar enemy appears in Mario Galaxy.
The mushrooms in the pianta fight I *though* was a reference to the different sizes that they have
I'm sure being able to rematch spirits at any time is what even made this series possible
Oh absolutely, there's no shot I would have done this series at all if I just had to rely on the Spirit Board
Shy Guy: Fist Attack +
In Smash Run for *Super Smash Bros. for 3DS,* Shy Guys can attack with their hands.
Pidgit: Air Attack +
In *Super Mario Bros. 2,* Pidgit rides on a flying carpet and attacks you from the air.
Boo: Enhances to King Boo
King Boo is the ruler of the Boos, and is much more powerful than ordinary ones. The skill [Floaty Jumps] references the Boos' ability to float in the air.
Bob-omb: Bob-omb Equipped
Bob-ombs are sentient bombs that can walk around on their own and even self-destruct.
Chain Chomp: Weight +
A Chain Chomp is made of metal, which makes it heavy.
Thwomp: Weapon Resist +
Thwomps are made of stone and cannot be defeated by normal means.
Nipper Plant: Enhances to Petey Piranha
This is a reference to Petey Piranha's status as the boss of the Piranha Plants, as Petey's Japanese name is "Boss Packun," with Piranha Plants called "Packun Flowers" in Japan. Nipper Plants themselves are called "Puchi Pakkun" meaning "Petit Piranha," which is a variant found in *Paper Mario.* Petey's skill [Giant] is indicative of how he is a giant mutant Piranha Plant.
Boom Boom: Enhances to Boom Boom & Pom Pom
A reference to Boom Boom's prominent role in *Super Mario 3D Land,* where he is joined by a female counterpart, Pom Pom. The skill [Hyper Smash Attacks] refers to how them being a pair makes them more powerful than they would be apart.
Hothead: Hothead Equipped
Hotheads are enemies made of fire/electricity that damage you if you touch them. In Smash, they travel all around on solid surfaces, and by feeding them fire and electricity, they grow bigger and more powerful.
Wiggler: Lip's Stick Equipped
The flower that the Lip's Stick plants on opponents references the white flower that grows on the Wiggler's head.
Kamek: Magic Attack +
Kamek is a Magikoopa, a Koopa that uses magic spells to attack Mario.
Mechakoopa: Lava-Floor Resist
Mechakoopas cannot be destroyed by throwing in lava.
Dry Bowser: Fire Attack +
Dry Bowser is able to breath fire, much like his base counterpart.
Nabbit: Item Gravitation
References Nabbit's habit of stealing items in *New Super Mario Bros. U.*
Big Urchin: Electric Weakness
Big Urchins are sea creatures, referencing how water conducts electricity.
King Bob-omb: Strong Throw
King Bob-omb will grab you and throw you in *Super Mario 64,* as well as throwing Bob-ombs at you in the DS remake.
Shine Sprite: Special-Move Power +
References *Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door,* where you can upgrade your partners and give them new moves for just 3 Shine Sprites.
F.L.U.D.D.: Sticky-Floor Immunity
The Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device is used in *Super Mario Sunshine* to wash away the Graffiti on Isle Delfino.
Piantas: Banana Gun Equipped
The Piantas are very fond of fruits, including bananas.
Luma: Super Launch Star Equipped
In the Mario Galaxy duology, Lumas are able to transform into Super Launch Stars, enabling Mario to travel to other planets and galaxies.
Hungry Luma: Transformation Duration +
After feeding Hungry Lumas a bunch of Star Bits, they will transform into planets and galaxies.
Honey Queen: A Master Spirit in World of Light. Runs a Dojo that teaches the Big-Bee Style [Increases Defense, Jump Height, and Weight, but Decreases Offense and Move Speed]. This is a reference to the Honey Queen herself, who is bulky and can fly, but rather slow and docile.
Lubba: Irreversible Controls
Lubba serves as Mario's guide throughout *Super Mario Galaxy 2.*
Starship Mario: Jump +
The Starship Mario is able to fly throughout the galaxies.
Sprixie Princesses: Fairy Bottle Equipped
In *Super Mario 3D World,* Bowser captures all the princesses of the Sprixie Kingdom and imprisons them in jars.
Plessie: Swimmer
In *Super Mario 3D World,* you can ride on Plessie to swim through the waters.
Cappy: Strong Throw
Mario is able throw Cappy like a boomerang and even take over enemies with him.
Pauline: Healing Shield
This vaguely references Mario's goal to rescue Pauline from Donkey Kong in both *Donkey Kong* and the *Mario vs. Donkey Kong* series.
The Odyssey: Strong-Wind Resist
The Odyssey is able to fly through the sky with ease.
So as long as we are stuck in the Mario Spirit Section this is basically the Aaronitmario Channel?
Also, I've never realized this within the game before but: Cappy offers himself to Mario in his regular White Top Hat form. Mario declines because as Cappy correctly assumes that's not Mario's Style.
Yet he does wear a White Top Hat at the end of the game anyway. Did Cappy really use all his brainwashing powers just to get over Mario's aversion to Top Hats?
That sure is dedication.
It's not a good use of your time, but he's truly subscribed to the idea that Top Hats are great. Granted, Cappy is probably quite biased in that regard.
4:22 I'm pretty sure that King Wart is a frog.
Wait did you just say that Mouser was the world one, world 3, and World 5 boss? You're correct on those first two but he's not the world five boss. That's that big ass crab that throws the rocks.
Anyways I look forward to more of your explanations of the spirits even though basically all of them I already know what the references are from, this is still pretty cool as there are some I don't exactly know which will mostly come up with Xenoblade and Fire emblem
I Would Change The Meccakoopa Spirit From 4 Tiny Bowsers With The Bob-Omb To Be Bowser Jr That Spams Down Special.
Great video. Take your break.
I always thought the Kirbys in the Shine Sprite spirit were a reference to the Piantas, and they are guarding the shine sprite.
Headcanon- Some of the spirits that were just different versions of the characters(Like Wedding Mario,Werehog Sonic) Are actually part of the character of Soul a soul spits if you will
That why some of the characters have different versions of themselves
Really?
@@cloudycloud7666 Well how else are you going to explain this other than alternate worlds I mean
@@mintychustarclan7381 Okay tho. Some spirit Battles are clever like Werehog being well Wolf.
@@cloudycloud7666 Agree
@@mintychustarclan7381 also Why does Fawful's spirit Battle take place in Prism Tower?
27:54 LOLWUT
This is gonna be a while
Big Urchin debuts in super Mario world
Should do a video on Item Origins, Music Origins and Stage Origins.
- Maybe there are three chucks, cause there is one that can splitt into three.
Good news: you won't need to do one for spirit #749 because it's a Fighter Spirit! (for the curious, it's Snake)
1:22 *casually cuts the video when he dies*
You should also do a video about the spirits that are combined from other spirits
other than pikachu, i would’ve found it hilarious if cloud was chosen for the queen bee fight as a nod to the honey bee inn.
You really should've acknowledged that Doki Doki Panic was originally going to be a Mario game in the first place.
I think the baseballs in the charging chucks is meant to show the similar to a catcher in baseball
Dry Bowser is always weird to me. Nobody mentions the fact that apparently, Dry Bowser is a relative but it contradicts New Super Mario Bros where we see him come from bowser. My evidence of Dry Bowser being a relative? Look up Mario Party Island Tour
They royally messed up with the mechakoopa battle. Why didnt they do 4 bowser jrs, all using their down b, which literally IS a mechakoopa!? Why use small bowsers and not actual mechakoopas??
Fun fact: swimming is just flying in water and flying is just swimming in the air
in the bob omb battle you fight three unmasked unaourmered meta knights cuz he looks like that under his mask
SPIRITSSSSSSSSSSSS
love them or hate them, they're awesome
19:53 I realize that wasn't Yoshi far too late 😭
that is a cursed costume😖
It would've been so cool if Lubba was a purple Rosalina since he filled her role in Super Mario Galaxy 2
Shame Tatanga isn't in more games these days. Also, I don't remember Mechakoopa's exploding in their debut game.
I think there’s a hidden reference to the mechakoopa. They can breathe fire just like bowser in Mario galaxy.
Could you also do fighter origins for every character I bet that would be easy to do!
Actually, Wart is a frog, but it's close enough for King K. Rool to be an obvious stand-in.
