Wow It's good to hear someone else with the similar mindset. Me and my gf are 20 now and each of us managed to save 15k each for now but we still waiting for few years and saving more as I don't have the job I want to have (yet) and my gf is still in uni. There are things which I would recommend for people younger: try not to be as good as your mates for example if they have nice things then dont buy it just to be as "cool" as them as from my experience I had that mindset for very short time and now I look and I laugh at myself because I saved money instead of buying unnecessary things. Also if you're in education then don't focus on saving big amounts or working more than you actually can as that can be big impact on your results and you might regret it in the future. Just do as much you're allowed to, even a pound saved is good as long as you use it wisely ;)

Me and my husband are currently saving up for our first home. It's been difficult as we've been renting in london for the last 3 years + we have a child. I wish i had the same mind set as you a few years ago and saved up my money strategically. This video has been so useful. I'm going to stay committed in saving up money, I've downloaded the money dashboard app to see my income/outgoings. Our goal is to save enough we need for a deposit in the next two years, so we can buy a home before my daughter starts nursery, fingers crossed! X

Addressing your committed outgoings is such a good tip. I've just done this over a couple of days and going forward I'm going to save 170ish a month just on this. I found better car insurance that halved in price, changed my water, gas, electric and internet providers to cheaper alternatives. It's a faff to do, but well worth it!

I was stuck in a retail job from 16 to 21 and also had a baby at 18 so i really doubted myself and one day thought i deserve better than this and it took me 3 months but i got a much better job working for an insurance company i thought my son needs this and i got the job! Sometimes we just need some confidence in ourselves and i am now saving for our first home! Xxx

But the thing is we cant get mortgages of 200k with 20k deposit unless our wage is like 50k we get 4.5x our wage and national wage here is like 20k in the Midlands from banks which is what most if not all working people earn ... what then?

Isabella, you can still find affordable flats (or sometimes even houses) around the Midlands between £90K-150K. They won't be in the centre of Birmingham or in Sutton Coldfield, but it's generally more affordable than London and the South.
4.5 times for £20K is about 90k and if you can scrape up 10-15k you can still afford a flat 😊. All the best!

Hazel Wood did you buy a house in London ? I really don’t want to be too far from London.

Natashaldn _ i got mine in Essex. The prices are still expensive (for the UK) but alot cheaper than London. My place is near “Chelmsford” which is a 30 min train journey to Liverpool st - which I dont think is too bad! Here a 1 bed flat is around 200k and a 2 bed is around 260-280k whereas London is probably another 50% more expensive xx

I never watched netflix once 18 month of free money they got from me never again! Sky gone phone contract went 2 years ago .food is the worse issue but im changing it drastically . Leaving cards at home put all my change in a jar. And i dont by anything for friends anymore they had years of take and no give. You think its only a lunch its only a coffee YEAH! Over a year its alot especially when there just takers. Im finding a second part time job my aim is to save 1500 for each one if my 3 sons in the next 10 years god spear me. I have wasted alot of money over the years i regret it.

In the bank I have a help to buy ISA. It is only worth it as the government put so much in a year. Bank accounts are crap in the UK for interest. So don't think if you put £5,000 In an account you will get and good intrest payment ontop.
