Sigh, I'm sick of all of these videos that say "stay at home/live with parents" I WISH I could but for some people home is an unhealthy and toxic environment. I need to look for videos that I can relate to, videos that talk about saving whilst renting. I'm going to like this video anyway because I would advise people to stay at home and save if their home life is healthy. But I wish people making these videos would see out of their bubble and acknowledge real life for others.
I speak from my personal experience of what has worked for me as my objective for this channel is to share truth - things that I’ve tried and tested, before speaking on them. I hear you and I can relate Amor Moreno. Maybe your story is the one that people are waiting for! I always take what's relevant and leave the rest. All the best on your journey.
Abigael Aremu hi thanks, when I move out I was planning on getting quite a big room but now I’m considering somewhere smaller so that I can save more. Thanks for the video recommendation 💜
@@thewritergrl you're very welcome! When I moved out, I always looked for the cheapest rooms in a house/flat-share. In one case, the price between my room and the most expensive was £275!!! 🤯 There are loads of bargains out there. Also having all bills included minimised the stress
I wish I heard this advice 10 years ago 🙂 I moved out prematurely. Moved back in two years ago when I came to my senses. I'm so happy I've learnt now though!! Currently documenting my house saving journey on my channel too xo
Rachel Abi aww that’s so good to hear! At the end of the day we’re all learning new things each and every day, and so as long as we’re applying what we learn it’s all good! 🙌🏾 Will be checking out your channel too x
I love you because I do the exact same thing and I saved 20k in one year. Literally before watching this video is exactly what I did and also it doesn't hurt to have a side hustle!
Hint for those who have to rent. House sharing is your freind. Rent the small room in a house-share in zone 3 or 4(not 1 or 2) and you'll be so desperate to get out you'll save like crazy.
Yesss I love that! As it’s true - not everyone is in a situation where they can live with family... Also like the fact about renting the smallest room - will be able to save even more since they charge according to room size right?
Girl! congrats on your accomplishments 🎉 Like you been my goal and dream for the longest…I’m 37 still trying to get my first BTL it’s been hard to stack being a single mum paying bills/ rent and stacking esp living in London . But Finally ready! Defo sharing this video with my daughter would love her to have your mentality so we could potentially begin investing together to build a portfolio. Thanks for sharing your journey … Tips with areas to invest and more tips in finding mortgage broker /solicitor/ agents/ contractors etc 💗
Waoh!!! Congrats girl. This is a true true daughter of original Ibadan. Well done my dear. More grease to your elbow. Unfortunately you didn't promote Smartah AC, but we'll let you off. More to come ijn. Congratulations.
Love thissssss! Super happy to see black girls winning! When you were looking to have tennants, did you save the normal 10% deposit for a house or 25% deposit for a buy-to-let home ?
Aww thanks so much girl! So I had to save more than the 10% - buy to let’s generally are 25%, but I was able to get something for 20% after shopping around for a while.
Awesome video, great advice! Do letting agents charge for valuations on property to determine what you could get in terms of rent, and what changes and additions they would recommend?
Thanks and glad you found it helpful! No, letting agents do not charge for either of those services - so definitely see as many as you can to get varying opinions and advice.
It’s such a privilege to say ‘stay at home’ 🙃 if you don’t have that privilege, like myself, rent a small room in a house share. If your an introvert and spend more time at home, like myself, rent a larger room. Love to see these videos though 🤩
I'm your 1000th subscriber apparently! Congratulations. Found your video through UA-cam studio. Your video is one of the top ones suggesting my videos! Thanks! Gray content. Look forward to catching up on more x
It isnt impossible to save a good deposit if you have a reasonably well paid job and family to support you. I saved close to under 100k by the time I was 29, put down 70k on a deposit, paid for my wedding and paid for builders to work on my flat. I invested my money with the advice and help from my bank and family and didnt act like a ***** with my money. :-) but without help or being kicked out by your parents saving is really tough.
@@AbigaelAremu I wish to apologise, believe what I said may have sounded arrogant and that was not my intention, also that was over a decade ago, saving up 40k is a brilliant achievement and posting a video about it to help others is fantastic
so happy i came across your channel - congratulations on all your achievements! i wanted to ask - is this your first property? if so, is it a residential or BTL mortgage? i wonder how you are letting it out to tenants with an estate agent if it's a residential mortgage? thanks so much!!xx
Thanks so much, I really appreciate that 😊 Yes it’s my first mortgage and a buy to let. I’ve got another video talking about it in more detail here - ua-cam.com/video/-366TD0PUww/v-deo.html
Great video and really well done. I love to see girls like me winning ❤️ A question for you: did you do a survey on your property before you bought it? And if so, which one did you go for?
Thanks so much! ❤ So funnily enough I didn't do a survey on this property, but I am now a big advocate for getting surveys done as my family and I have recently been through the process of getting a new place, and having surveys (Level 2 - home buyers survey) helped to identify significant issues with a property we were previously interested in - but have since changed our minds on. I talk all about it in this video - ua-cam.com/video/UP0RnmiRYiY/v-deo.html
Really good video, just bump into your channel, ill be looking around it, im really lost on buying a property in london, with a 50k salary and single I've notice that buying a property in london is impossible
Thanks for the feedback! Yes it surely does seem near impossible. This is why I opted for outside London to at least get my foot on the property ladder. Maybe try just on the outskirts of London? You'll be able to get a lot more for your money too...
Great vid! I’m a contractor and in a similar position as you were back then. Trying to save for a deposit now. Why did you say you wouldn’t go permanent if you did your research? Would you recommend I stay contracting when applying for the mortgage and why? Thanks
Thanks, glad you found it useful! I said I wouldn’t have gone permanent as there are more lenders willing to offer mortgages to contractors now. Especially if it’s a buy to let, as they look at more than what your payslips show...
Great video - very relatable. I’m in a similar situation where I’d like to buy a BTL without owning my first property. But I don’t want to forego things like the first time buyer stamp duty allowance. In general it seems more difficult to get a BTL without owning your own property first. How did find this? Did you feel disadvantaged?
Thank you 😊 So it’s definitely trickier than getting a residential first, but honestly as long as you get a property that you can afford as if it were residential you should be ok. I created a video about it here - ua-cam.com/video/-366TD0PUww/v-deo.html
Can I be nosy and ask how much you brought your buy to let house for? As I only have just below 30k to invest in and as you saved 40k I'm guessing you had alot of money to spare. Also what kind of house was you looking for when you was viewing for example was you look for a house which had a garden etc?..
When looking, my main criteria was a house with at least two bedrooms. Naturally with houses you’ll have a garden, as opposed to a flat - which is one of many reasons I prefer houses. £30k is a very good deposit to have and as long as you invest in the right area, you’ll be able to get a very good property.
