Minibikes: Torque Converter vs. Centrifugal Clutch
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 гру 2016
- John and Ike make modifications to get the mini bikes running properly (John's needed a carb jet and Ike's had a bad carburetor), we do some testing, Ike goes off a jump, and we try a hillclimb.
Thanks for Watching!

Hey go watch red beards garages newest video. you guys should do a project with one of those
These guys are the roadkill of mini bikes and go karts love it keep it coming!
It's called an emulsion tube
Kyle TheTreeKat this is right!!!
emulsion noobs
Two Wheel Workshop not a noobie at all, we actually run 4-stroke emulsion tubes on our 50cc two strokes with dellorto carbs, made a surprising difference!
Kyle TheTreeKat inverted boobs
@@dustinshort6207your comment made me laugh waayy more than it should've...
That piece is the emulsion tube of the carb. It mixes the fuel and air and comes with the new jet because it has enlarged hole sizes to work well with the larger jet.
Tip: Use an in-line fuel filter.
Less hole and it is in case the bigger jet wasn't enough.
Gx140 emulsion tube is what usually comes with jets.
I think everyone forgot that there was supposed to be a comparison here
For real
In England we would say 'Emulsion tube'. Also, don't you have a jet and needle pair?
I was taught [ in the 80's on 70's Mini Engines ] you should change them both.
I might be 527 subscribers late, but congrats on 300k. The raw content is so, so, so so good!
I've had good luck with using *Sta-Bil Marine* fuel treatment. I have several carbureted engines that sit for long periods of time and have yet to have any issues with any of them as long as that fuel treatment is in the fuel left in the bowls. I only use the marine formula though and not their regular formula.
That is an emulsion tube I believe. But if you're ever not sure, it's always a chingadera.
Lou Spowells you speak Spanish ? 😂
I believe the proper term is chinkadera. Or, a chingasso 🤪
That is what David Freiburger
calls them. (Or, anything else
he can't remember the name
of.)

Congratulations on 300 000 subscribers CarsAndCameras!!!
Should run a fuel filter and install a shutoff valve. Close the valve and run the carb out of gas every time you're done with it. Ethanol free gas also helps.
best advice
ive been looking forward to this video for a long time!
At 6:57 When John started the bike I thought it had a purge system because Ike was spraying! 😂
The guy with the Long curly hair looks like the actor who played Brennan's brother from the movie "Step Brother's" lol. Awesome video guys👍👍
that guys name is *_john_*
love your videos man keep up the good work
i have been waiting for this vid thx keep it up
What I would recommend for that centrifugal clutch is to take it apart and cut the weight retainer spring down a bit. maybe 3-4 turns at a time, and after you cut it you can just bend the end up a bit to re-form the hook. What this will do it make it engage at a higher RPM, thus reducing the heat generated from just idleing. It will also engage higher in the torque curve which means you get more power at initial engagement. It's a bit of an art tuning the clutch right with the gearing, though.
You guys really need to start adding STA-BIL Storage Fuel Stabilizer to all your gas, you are constantly gumming up your carbs
Experimental Fun I agree
Experimental Fun really
Premium gas with NO Ethanol. Problem solved. Ethanol is a small engine killer.
Stabil sucks. Waste of money. Run ethonal free fuel with a dash of 2 cycle oil in for a stabilizer
@@tomc1950, ethanol does NOT belong in a
fuel tank! It belongs in a bottle, in your freezer!
To be consumed, by us Humans.
steve
yep that clutch was a tad warm..good video guys
that first jump reminded me of napoleon dynamite."you got like 3 feet of air that time"lol
😂😂😂
Shocks, pegs, lucky😂
Lmao
"Quick dismount " 😂 that's pretty good.... they put alot of torque on those ,cool stuff👍
Its called an Emulsion tube! I've actually never seen one in the newer engines. Pretty cool!
losi8ightyew most of the time they are pressed in so they don't come out without a little persuasion.
I can't find out how to tighten the spring on the the pulley in between the clutch and the back chain sprocket does anybody know it's like it popped off and unsprung itself a couple times so it's making the handlebar shake vigorously when it's on sitting on idle
The struggle is real bros! I use Techron complete fuel system cleaner in all my small engines before I shut them down for any time longer than 2 weeks. I also treat my gas in my gas cans with it. My carbs are now always clean 😅. Love your show guys!! See you at the Oregon Minibike Gambler in a few days 🤘
When I had issues with idling on my mini Baja I replaced the clutch with a max torque and she idled like a dream after that
Congrants on 300k
you 2 are so awesome love watching your videos and ceep up the grate work so amazing
thanks
I'm seen most of you guy's vids there awesome and you two are good at what you do🤘🏻!
I have an old banana mini bike with a 5hp Robin Subaru motor in it and I just took the governor out of it and did nothing else and just watch my RPMs and it goes pretty good off road!
I also have an old go kart that I got a predator 212 for and It definitely needs a torque converter! You guys are the reason I'm gonna get one!
Love the educational content!
thanks for sharing all the vids and building of these mini bike I have a motovox and just put a predator on it a few weeks ago and it was so easy because of yalls videos but so far I'm not having any trouble with my clutch and it a $17.00 eBay special
You guys should use cheap round slide carbs from a pit bike, or a small dirt bike. Way more tunable and a fair bit more performance then one of those carbs.
Awesome video!
Before you change the carb, try cleaning the primary jet. It's held in place by the idle speed adjustment screw. Once you take that screw out, use a flat screwdriver to gently pry the jet holder out of the top of the carb. Take a single strand of bike cable and poke it through the hole in the brass jet, don't force it. Then, with the bowl off, blow everything out. Use carb cleaner with a spray nozzle to spray into the small hole at the bottom of the jet holder hole to make sure it comes out below by the main jet.
Put the 24mm mikuni replica carburetor that goopowersports sent to you on a minibike or on the China cart
Grats on the 300k lads, onwards and upwards!
thanks
Great as always !!!
thanks
I have a Baja Warrior with a pred 212 stage 1 and a GoPowerSports Torque Converter and it will definitely stand up on you! It also tops out at about 50mph!!
congrats on 300k boys!
pull the idle speed screw all the way out and pry the idle jet out and clean it and maybe even open it up a size, it will help with the of idle throttle response.
The emulsion tube and the jet are paired up. The emulsion tube just pushes down from the throat of the carb and drops out after the jet is out. Just make sure you don't screw up the two tiny o-rings. Replace them if damaged. Put a drop of oil on the O-rings when reinstalling. Some have plastic emulsion tubes that get brittle, so be gentle.
Lol hilarious 😆
I can’t believe how much fun these things are.
IKE AND JON!!!! Dudes, the lawnmower tires they sell at Walmart 15x6.00-6 work AWESOME as replacements for these db30 mini bikes. We have 5 doodle bugs with 212 predators and torque converters, and those tires last way longer and grip way better
ive been using Briggs fuel additive. It's supposedly good for 24 months gas storage if you use what they recommend you can do double the amount and increased gas storage up to 36 months I run it in all of my things and the past two years I have had no problems with my lawn mowers or weed wackers and my vehicles seem to like it.good for ethanol crap problems too.sweet mini bikes!👍👍
You always make good videos
Looks like you guys have lots of fun like the videos
That small tube is called an "Emulsion Tube" if im not mistaken. it is the tube that sprays fuel into the carb so it is very important the jet had a proper size emulsion tube to flow all the fuel its sending.
It's Called a "Emulsion Tube"- The fuel is metered through the main jet while the air is controlled through what is generally called the 'air correction jet'. Somewhere in between, the fuel and air are intermixed to form an "Emulsion" - a fine dispersant of the air inside the fuel.
I'm thinking about putting a yanmar 5.5 hp diesel with a cvt setup on a mini bike not looking for big speed but looking for big power/torque... what do you think ?
The ad before this played was for accident insurance. How appropriate.
Congrats on 300k!
thanks
here's an idea. how about building a chopper mini bike? raked front end, Springer rear, wide rear tire and a 670. you'd probably have to design and build you're own frame. could be an awesome winter project! what ya think?
Does the torque converter work in low rpm as well as high rpm? I have a chopper mini bike I'm putting a 212 predator on. Wondering what your ideas are for prime setup. I'm wanting about 40mph or better from it.
the jet is the long tube with holes and the jet screw is what holds it in. i work at a small engine parts store.
how do you fix the clutch on this I have the exact bike and motor but when I try to stop it smokes it like crazy and trys to keep pulling forward
I know I'm o the mini bike tube but I've been having issues with my clutch you guys mentioned that at one point the mini bike(Ikes) clutch was getting to hott what causes that cuz I have a 6:1 ratio and loosened the chain and still the same issue with it getting hot what else could I possibly do to calm the clutch down
I just did this to my mini bike 212 with a tav and a new rear sprocket for the 420 chain from go power sports and I'm having trouble aligning the chain. Oh and I bought the motor plate from hotrod mini bikes that let's me move the motor front to back and side to side. Is there any Quick tricks you can tell me that will help me get the chain aligned
so which one would you guys recommend for a predator engine a heavy duty clutch or a torque converter?
I would love it if you guys would do a go kart build with a Lifan 125cc pit bike motor and make a shifter kart out of it. I think it's about time you guys graduated past just doing predator 212 builds. Do you guys ever talk about making a shifter kart?
You guys should get pit bikes. Like 125cc crf70 style bikes. They make them in manual and semi manual transmissions. They're a blast to ride
8:45 reminds me of Lord of the Rings
"IT WAS DELIBERATE! IT WAS DELIBERATE!"
14:00 does coasting also heat up the clutch?
"EMULSION TUBE" is the name of the gold tube you had in your hand.
when you started yours up ike hit the air compressor and it sounded like you were purging nitrous
I have the same mini bike as Ike, but I have the stock engine; And my throttle broke/tore off, and I just don't know where to get a throttle cable/kit
What? No drag race?!?
TRIAL!
I have the monster moto I noticed it dosent allow for most header pipes but on yours its perfect whats the name and where do I get it?
So for a monstsr moto 212 stage 1 kit mini bike used for trail riding, should i keep the centrifugal clutch, get a torque converter, or get one of those jack shaft setups?
how do you know how much to open the jet . like how do you know how much bigger to make the hole in the jet?
Nice vid mate! Ten minutes in.
the gold thing is an emultion tube! it sits behind the main jet to emulsify the gasoline so it mixes better with air.
U guys ever thought of doing a 2 wheel drive minibike? I'm imagining an old 79cc mounted on a plate where the front fender normally is.
a guy did that I think it was ratherbewelding
Love the mini bikes guys I have 3 myself
It's an emulsion tube, it controls fuel/air mixing in the main circuit and spill over point. If you don't have a flow bench go with what they sent you.
What type of brakes do you guys use mine were just replaced and u still have to pull them all the way down plz help
quick question if anybody can help me out....Does anybody know what size clutch bore is needed on a 7hp Robin engine!
Dang 5 years later doing my first minibike build and using this as a resource. Been watching probably since this idk
Trying to figure out what is better between centrifugal clutch and torch converter butt beside the cluch that gets hot there doesn't seem to be much information, but it seems that the tittle of this video is exactly what im looking for.
que bello lugar!!!
Does anyone know how to get the emulsion tube out of the carb?
Can you revisit this bike and show us how to mount that black gas tank. is that the generic tank that is made to go on bike frames for motorized bicycles? I love the look of the teardrop shaped gas tank on a mini bike I’d really like to see how to mount one of those on a MM80.
You guys should add sediment bowls to help keep the fuel clean. And stretch the rear frame for more control and you could add suspension to the rear.
The minibike with the upper gas tank- how do you set that up? Do you only need a fuel line?
It is an emulsion tube to froth the liquid fuel. The “froth” created by emulsion tubes improves fuel atomization. In the GL1000, both the main and secondary main fuel jets employ emulsion tubes. Keep in mind that when a bike sits unused for any length of time, these emulsion tubes can get plugged with residues. This will seriously disrupt the air-fuel mixture. Each carb may be affected differently, so the symptoms can be a bit contradictory and elusive. Generally, the lack of air will cause an over-rich condition on the affected carb(s). Depending on which holes are plugged, you can sometimes get weird, rpm-dependent problems.
Ooooo look at the baby face !!
Do you have a real driver license at this time. Lol
Just playing 💕you guys!
6:04 it is the thing that makes some the fuel disperse into fumes so the engine runs smoother
shit, me out there id be standing on the pegs with the throttle pegged letting it rock back and forth 😂 awesome stuff guys! keep it up!
oh and thats a emulsion tube.
lol. thanks
I was wondering if someone would say that.
Ike, (It'll be FINE) that is an emulsion tube.
Mixes GASOLINE with air. Do NOT use "gasohol"
in a carbureted engine! PERIOD!
After 58 years, I THINK I know what I'm saying.
(Yes, I use "gasohol" in my "bike.)
steve
I believe it's called an emulsion tube. It better atomizes the fuel into the passing air for a more consistent mixture.
shouldn't this be called karts & camera's?

Mini bikes aren't karts. 🤔
I call it "karts&cams"
Cause I've only seen 1 video regarding a old truck.
Every video I have watched is them installing parts & cams and either aiming to set a speed record or blowing it up in the process.
#karts&cams
Oh OK haha
I love you guys be safe
You should put that 212 predator engine on a go kart I had one on my and it was amazing
We bought a Baja Racer 97cc about 10-15 years ago and it never ran due to a factory defect in the carburetor. Does anyone out there know what the problem was and how to fix it? For $12 I thought about just replacing the carb. Thanks a million.
Strip and clean before buy and replace lads! Could save the cents that'll soon total too dollars! Think it's a primary jet too..
Edit, or a pilot jet.
Hey I’m building a mini bike for the first time what is a really good motor to use on it cause I’m a big man like the movie tommy boy thanks
Should I run a centrifugal clutch or experiment with other high speed options?
Hey guys how often do you have to replace belts on your torque converter
That's an impressive chimney.
Hey John n Ike. Your cc10 code at go power does not work. Go power says code is on hold. What's up with that ?
Great video buddy. Question, are those bicycle handle bars on those mini bikes? The reason why I'm asking is I just bought a brand new Coleman BT200X and the handle bars sit real low on the bike and when I adjust them forward they still sit low so I started thinking about my dirt bike handle bars when I was a teenager and I was wondering if I could use those on there. The dirt bike handle bars sit up nice and high. Anyway keep up the good work guys and take care.
when will there be a nother chevy c10 video
Hi guys. I really think you should make a motorized bar stool or dirt bike
I wish you could have had someone recording on the side showing how steep the hill was I dont think there is a video on here decent enough to show the grade from the side , and also so much shaking that I could not see the clutch smoking. I want to see how these small wheel size Baja bikes climb hills with a predator 212 on them..
i have an adult trike that i put a bilthard 212 on it. it's too fast. can you help me slow it down abit so i can ride it?
