i bought these two weeks ago and i must agree with you, the size of them shocked me, but as well so did the sound. i luckily bout 36" floor speaker stands with 15" square bases so they fit perfectly and yes they are heavy. i use them for my dj mixing at home and time to time attempts at playing bass guitar and producing a beat or two in the home studio, but mostly for dj mixing. i left them at the factory setting , but make my low mid and high adjustments on my controller or mixer and they do the job more than i expected.

I remember working on classic KRK Rokits gen1's in a few studios in the early 2000s and they sounded great. So, I bought a pair of Gen 2s to "upgrade" my Mackie HR824's G1. I found them really muddy, boxy and like you said really "bassy". But, I've heard the newer KRKs and they sound great, also.

Some of my first pair of speakers were KRK Rocket 8's. I don't remember them having a hiss thou. I'm surprised that KRK would go that direction with the amplifier that room correction is really cool.... very different for KRK's.

KRK monitors have been solid for as long as I can remember. I use to use them more for production and checking mixes. They beat hard and can take it. I believe they are worth more in value than the actual selling price. Sing able to tune them to the room is big. That’s was new information for me. I use to have the old KRK tuning system, so I know this version sigh the app has to be the truth. Thanks for that info on these
    monitors. Great stuff!

I had the 4th Gen KRK 8s never had a hiss problem.. Didnt even need to turn them up past 50%... If you crank most powered speakers near their max you will hear hiss but they def sound more balanced than the Gen 1s and Gen 2s I had prior.

Great review, my first pair of monitors was the yellow gen 2 8". I love how they sound but I had to go back and forth on the mix because of the bass. The the price for the krks was always great. The hiss sound was there back in early 2000. What is your favorite monitors ? I hear the Kali Audio and JBLs are great for 400 and below for a pair. I used a cheap $75 pair of Mackie and my mixes translate great without back and forth on different speakers, cellphone or stereos. Studying about mixing on low volume was the key for me.

I've owned JBL's and Yamaha's and mixed on Genelecs and Focals, and the KRK's are the only ones that have ever got me remotely anywhere close to professional level results. It's just really easy to make mixes translate on them. I don't even do car checking or have any room treatment at all, and I never worry about my mixes. Now I need to get me a lil mixcube and some room treatment just to squeeze out that extra 15% of performance and I'll be set.

I just bought these, and I know you said there is a bit of a hiss to them, a lot of other reviews said the same thing..... After doing a lot of research before I purchased I found a couple of tricks you can do to help eliminate the hiss.
    1. Make sure both the monitors are plugged into the same power source, ie. same power strip.
    2. Make sure you are using balanced cables.
I almost passed up buying these because of all the reviews that said hissing coming from speakers. Man am I glad I didn't pass these up. I made sure to do the 2 things I mentioned above and there is ZERO hiss coming from these even when my DAC is turned up to max volume there is literally nothing coming from the speakers, and when I put Music through these, holy ish.... I know these are not club speakers as you stated, but these things THUMP. I then pushed my EQ through my DAC and all I can say is these sound damn near as good if not better than my old 12" DCM Tower Loudspeakers - cant do a listen test as I do not have the DCM's anymore, but from memory, these KRK 10's perform and sound just as good if not better. These will fit the bill as both a good stereo system (with an EQ pushed to them) as well as good monitors. I even bought the 10" sub to have the entire set and I will tell you I don't even need the sub, but you damn skippy I'm still using it LMAO.
So in conclusion, if you are looking at these I can def recommend them, and you don't need the sub, but if you want the sub to do most of the heavy lifting then get the sub. The Bass coming from the Monitors themselves will shake your room, but of course that's with an EQ pushed through my DAC.
Just using the EQ on the speakers themselves, still these things rock, but IMO pushing my EQ through to them just make them sound soooooo much better for listening and enjoying music rather than listening critically. So these really are the best of both worlds IMO.

@@PreachaMan2010 If I were you I would - but I can not say for reals cause I have never heard the 8's in person. - so I don't know if that helps your decision..... These KRK 10-3 gen 4's HIT. With the sub and EQ'd they shake pictures on my wall's and I guarantee my neighbors hate me. LOL - and can still hear everything crystal clear. oh and the sub is only half way turned up and my EQ I'm pushing through the DAC is set to -15db sooooo... LOL - I played a bass test on these and 50-55Hz will shake your body, if you crank them up, of course that's with the sub. If you do decide to get the 10's be sure to come back and let me know your thoughts on these amazing speakers. I truly am impressed for studio monitor speakers. I'm an old school hip hop head so I love big deep bass and these will deliver, anything you desire, just depends on your setup. I also love old school metal and classic rock as well - Metallica, AC/DC, The Eagles, The Doors, Pink Floyd - all of them sound amazing on these. I am hearing things in the music I never heard before and the Guitar solo's send chills through me.

Love the video and I feel confident that the speakers would sound good. I was looking where to go coming from HS8s because I want a midrange driver and am very attracted to the 10 inch woofers. What's killing me though is if the hiss problems I've been hearing about are really that bad? Currently, I have my monitors 4 ft away from my listening position. It's these or tiny Genelecs.

I have the KRK 5 about to get the 8"s, looks like you got the 10's, i want those too. They are everything you said, when you said they shut off on you, thats the sleep mode just set it. i keep mine on default i never set anything on it, i guess the sleep mood was already set on mine. the lights on them dem on and off in sleep mode very cool. And yes! they do BANG! I paid 220 for a pair 110 Each for my 5's. I caught them on sale though, i believe they was originally 499 for a pair at Guitar Center, still a good deal. The 10's are 499 each at Guitar Center 998 for a pair, yes very cheap for a pair of 10's.

I use 3 way dynaudio near fields. Dynaudio lyd48 with s18 sub, right down low to 16hrz will blow focals well away. Or if you want core sub...go dynaudio core sub. Focals are bright, and ear fatigue sets in quick. French can't make good speakers. I use an extremely expensive hifi system and the sound of my montage sounds mental. My Excalibur speakers are lead lined and weigh 250kg...I wheel them around on castors.

I bought a couple of weeks ago a pair of the 5" model (G4 too), and I use them with the volume at 0dB, and yes, there is a hiss, which I understand is normal because to begin to notice it, subtly, I have to place an ear approximately 25 cm from the tweeter. So for me in practice the hiss does not exist, because according to my position on the table where I have them my ears are 80 cm away, which of course is not far at all, and I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT HEAR THE HISS.
I remark that if I start to increase the volume above 0 dB, the hiss will increase, although to start noticing it at my 80 cm working distance, and in a very quiet environment, I have to reach around +5 or + 6 dB, which doesn't interest me in any way, since if it is increased from 0 dB the limiter starts to work, and I don't need that much volume.
On the other hand, if the hiss of the 7", 8" and 10" models is somewhat annoying at 0 dB, due to the distance of use... How about reducing the volume so that the hiss is not heard on the working distance? Maybe -5 dB, maybe -10 dB... I understand that there will still be more than enough margin to have a desirable volume, controlling it from the audio interface.

I have the gen 3 krk 6. While they were in transition from being roundy edge shape to more squaredy.
They must have cheeped out on something with those newer ones.
I never had an issue with his on my gen 3 6 ers.
Never found them too basey even for the 6inch drivers, they were comfortably accurate.
They can kick the bass if they want.
I've heard a bunch of gen 4 KRK stuff, and something is just not in the same quality of sound as the gen 3s, or even the gen 2s.
They still look pretty. But I will not upgrade, if anything, I'll add a sub, and center.

Thanx I love your review. Yes, it is the driver of the speakers being too close to the Amplifier which causes the hiss. So I have been told by another You Tuber who is suppose to try to shield the two internal devices more like a faraday cage idea. I got a hiss from my Headrush 112 FRFR Guitar speaker when not in active use. (Having it just on) So this should not be too big a deal. You are a character. No offence you are just charismatic. You have a good voice I think one that could do voice overs for some animated show or have been. Sound familiar or just simular from Satery morning cartoon days. I miss those days. I plan to buy a set of those speakers. Yeah huge too huge for my current Desk, 63 inched long but, for those speakers I still plan to use speaker stands in front of me. I will use them mostly for gaming and music playing. I could get the matching Sub but, for now just the speakers will do.

I am on the fence! $679 for pair of HS8's! Or $800 for pair of KRK's. The Mid Range has me interested on the KRK. I LOVED my HS8's in my last studio. I gave my HS5' to my son. They were not great. Think prior owner overdrove them at some point. They worked fine, but something was just off. Never could figure out what though.

I’d say keep the 5s and get the 10” krk sub it will sound great (that’s exactly what I have in my studio).

@@BoloDaProducer I’m thinking of getting them. The ads

If they make passive versions of these and hook up a crown amp. Hiss would be gone.

The disadvantage of class d amps are Less power consumption and lower heat generation. Smaller size. Very high-power potential (400 to 500 W) in a small package. The only disadvantage is that it has high-frequency noise generation.
