  • This 2014 Can-Am Commander 800R has really impressed us both off-road and for utility use. It's like having a race car engine in a pickup truck. History: In 2011 the Can-Am Commander 800R was introduced to the side by side world and joined the family of the Can-Am Commander 1000. The 800R Commander, equipped with a fire breathing 71-hp EFI V-twin does just what its name implies, It Commands whatever you throw at it. Starting the Commander 800 is simple as pushing a button and the instant you bring this beast to life you know it means business. After buckling up the engine gives the driver 100% power, a nice safety feature. With a high and low range to choose from the Commander 800R can literally peel up the ground. Pick your line and point it at the top of a hillclimb and hang-on. The dual a-arm front suspension and dual rear trailing arms soak up the bumps well and if you need more traction just flip the 4wd switch and it becomes glued to the ground. Don't worry, if you spin the visco-loc front differential gently locks and away you go. For work, hunting or on the farm the Commander 800R utilizes a cool dual layer cargo bed that dumps. It is even rated to pull 1500 lbs if you need to pull your buddies Rzr out of trouble. Having a unique two key system that allows the operator to choose from Performance Key or Standard Key is nice also. Where ever the trail takes you the Commander 800R will also bring you home having a 10 gallon fuel tank, with best in class fuel mileage. Just another example of the Commander 800R or 800R XT efficiency. Choose the 800R XT and upgrade to bighorn 2.0 tires, heavy duty front bumper, 4000 pound winch, extra mud protection, larger gauge readouts and rugged bed rails.

Good review, we bought the 2014 Can AM Commander 1000 XTP and it has been a very good machine so far.
    Cheers, Pete

Thanks and I'm certain your Commander will serve you well. The 800 we had was like a pickup truck with a stock car engine! Lots of fun and versatility.

Im debating between the rzr 570 trail and the AC 700 trail. Any help? I like both. Will be mostly trails and mud. Reliability would be key

I have this exact model, and I just wanted to say that you did a great job on this video. Any chance you can do some accessory or maintenance videos?

Would you feel comfortable cruising 60+mph for long durations with the 800r?

Yes, feel like it would be fine for that. We had zero issues out of our Commander

I suppose it cruises fairly easily at 60-65? Considering top speed seems to be 70-72

Currently we are testing the John Deere 835M. If you have any products that would work with it, we'd be happy to test and make install videos.

Thanks for your comment. They are both great machines, the Commander feels a bit sportier in my opinion.
