maybe get empire of the vampire from the library and see if the writing style is for you first. I thought I was good with it at first....but it started to really get on my nerves and it felt like he kept trying to outdo himself. It is a shame, because I was interested in the story otherwise. Hope you like it more than I did if you give it a shot!

Wretched Waterpark sounds so cute, love the covers! I hated Empire of the Vampire, I DNFed it and unhauled my signed copy. The lamest cussing I've ever read!🤣I DNFed Kill River because it took to long to get to the slashing. 🤭

Island was my first and favorite, so I think that theory holds weight. I also wanted to love Someone You Could Build A Nest In, but I just didn’t. I really couldn’t stand the sad little stuffy girl. “I’m not a dad, I’m a sexual being” 🤣 Maybe King had a fart gun next to him while writing Cujo. We don’t know. I think my favorite read so far has been When Darkness Loves Us. 🐶 🐕 🐩
The Island isn't in the lineup, but Dec is an open month, so maybe I'll have to squeeze it in there. I don't think King needs a fart gun. Something tells me he just likes to "toot his own trombone" and is very impressed with himself
I have a love hate relationship with Kiersten White. I hated Hide, but I recently read and loved The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein. Strange Sally Diamond sounds interesting! Based on your review, I'll definitely be skipping Empire of the Vampire. But I have to admit hearing your thoughts on it was quite entertaining! Cujo is one of my favorites by King, but it is such a gutwrenching read. I cried so much while reading it. The movie is good, too, but it lacks the depth of the novel - especially when it comes to King's explorations of marriage, family, loss, and grief. I hope you find some five stars during the second half of the month🐶
I didn’t hate hide…but I had lowered my expectations before I read it based on what others thought. I keep forgetting she wrote the dark descent. I have that on my shelves somewhere. I need to find and read that one for sure
🐶I love Stephen King's early books but I will never read Cujo, because I love dogs even more, and there's only one way for that story to end for the poor dog. And the movie for Old Yeller traumatized me as a child. But I promise, that's not my only character trait 😂. The anthology The Fiend in the Furrows II and Curse of the Reaper have been my favorite books so far this month. I hope the second half of June is better for you.

Wait, Some You Can Build a Nest In sounds so cool! I loved the movie The Blob… oh no! Not a boring second half! 😢 Was it a male author writing a sapphic story? Maybe that’s why it felt off. 🤔 I’ve heard such mixed things about Kill River - some people LOVE it and others find it so boring because it takes so much time to get to the horror aspects. Ahhh haha you literally just said it took forever to get to the slashing 😂 I’ve also heard people say you gotta read the entire series to enjoy it for what it really is but that’s a whole ass commitment haha
I'd say Kill river is pretty mediocre and can be skipped. I just saw Kelsi say she didn't love the 2nd one, and I feel like she is way more forgiving than I am. Someone you can build a nest in had such a unique idea, but the plot was just not there
I think Jay Kristoff is kind of a douchebag and a little “too cool for school”. I started the Nevernight series when it came out and was enjoying it at first but ended up not finishing it and just unhauling those books. I personally have zero interest in ever reading him anymore if that helps in your decision to DNF 😉. Such a bummer about the blob book! I remember when you hauled it and it sounded so cool. What a let down. Cujo definitely was a good boy, poor buddy. I was also so shocked at the ending! Hopefully the second part of the month turns around for you!! 🐶
