- I did remember to "Push the little Red Button" this morning. This California Zephyr #5 made its station stop in Fort Morgan at 0543 MST (departed On Schedule). The 8-car train was powered by 3 P42s, #175, #171, & #151. They brought the consist to a stop with car 7 to the parking area platform for passenger service to 4 passengers detraining (2 tots in arms) and then for 3 new fares headed to Denver. After a check of the person still in the waiting room (freeloader) and a short dwell time the high ball was given and on a clear signal the Zephyr role out of town destined for its next stop at Union Station in Denver.
My thanks to the operating crew for the greetings this morning.
Everyone please stay safe!
Temp: 26 F. Feels like 22 F.
Expected High: 56 F.
Sunrise: 0704 MST. Sunset: 1713 MST
Nowhere in the world is there any train as remarkable as our Superliner Zephyr !! Thanks for fiiming it Mike !
Good morning, Norman; Thank you for stopping by as well as the comments. Yep. It is the one and only Zephyr.
Please take care and stay safe!
I hope the replacements are as iconic. Frog and I did a tour of the U.S. by rail in 2023 and I hope to come back sometime after 2028 to do another!
Mornin Mike-See a Amish Family depart & couple folks boarding, nice smooth transition of #5,thanks again for your time & footage of #5, Jeb 😊
Good morning, Jeb; I thank you for dropping by as well as the comments. It all worked again as it was supposed to. Please take care and stay safe!
Yeah Mike good to see your video. It's good to see The zephyr again. You know it's running on time a lot. And once in a while gets in a little late I'm sure. We haven't had that super cold stuff like we did a week ago.
Good morning, Robert; Thank you for dialing in as well as the comments. It does make my day go a bit better when it is running on time. But I can replan around it if it gets into trouble timewise. I am glad for the brief period of warmer weather. we may see some snow next week but that is being pushed back.
Anyway, have a great Saturday back there.
Please take care and stay safe!
Good morning Mike. Good to see the Zephyr. We are headed for 58F on Monday. February thaw before the rest of winter. Snow is nearly gone and Taffy can go on again, she is loving the walks. I'm enjoying the milder weather. Wish we could just go into spring weather from here but more of the white fluff from the sky is predicted after next week. Have a good day. Thanks for the Zephyr.
Good afternoon, Ginny; Thank you for dialing in along with the comments. There is a lot of snow and ice buildup here to melt. Have cloud cover yet the air temperature is 48 F. and climbing. More melting today will help as will the forecast 60s for the next couple of days. Nice for Taffy to be able to get outside a bit more. I too have had my fill of winter. We could just proceed into spring weather right now. But we get to enjoy what we have now and hope for the best.
Have a great Saturday afternoon and evening back there.
Please take care and stay safe!
Good morning Mike. Very nice approach to the platform today. For me the way it should be done. Just my opinion 🤷 Everyone have a great weekend and stay safe wherever you are.
Good morning, David; I thank you for dropping by and the comments. Yep. I too like that style of approach. Didn't care for the brake smoke much but the style points make up for that. LOL!
Have a great Saturday over there.
Please take care and stay safe!
@@Mikeinmorgan Style points, I love it !😎

Good afternoon, Ken; I thank you for dropping by and the comments. Nope. You didn't miss #5, I did. Forgot to push the little red button on the camera. I did get a clear view of the front range in it snow covered glory though.

Good Saturday morning Mike! Currently 45 degrees here in the Heartland and should be 51 today. My Weather Bug app says you should be up to 54 there today. Nice to see a timely stop for Amtrak 5 this morning! I wish you a great Saturday out your way Sir! I definitely am here! Mark in Iowa.
Good morning, Mark; Thank you for tuning in along with the comments. Just went thru 50 F. here. But the sky is clouded over for the day. Snow on the western slope that won't reach here. More melting to take place today.
They were here a minute early and departed on time which is always nice to record. Makes the rest of my day rather nice.
Have a great Saturday afternoon and evening back there. Please take care and stay safe!

Good morning Mike from 46 cloudy mid Tenn. Heading to the 60-70 s next week. Can you believe it for Feb? No under freezing for next 10 days. Weird?? Glad you & little Red button got reacquainted.
Good afternoon, Ben; Thank you for stopping by as well as the comments. We are slated to be in the 60s tomorrow and part of Monday. The great February meltdown. LOL! Snow again on Tuesday into Wednesday. Go figure.
Yep. I did have my finger on the button today and got the correct indication light on the view screen. It is red as well.
Have a great Saturday afternoon and evening back there.
Please take care and stay safe!

You're having a heat wave! Send it our way.
Happy Saturday, Mike. On time arrival once again. Was that Ric at the
controls today as #5 came in rolling.
You're going to have a warm Saturday.
Enjoy the day & that weather. Stay safe
and be careful .
Good afternoon, Jim; Thanks for dropping by along with the comments. I don't think that was Ric on the stick. But I do think he may well have trained that operator. That was the style of approach I like to see. Yep. Some nice recovery and melting type of weather for a couple of days. Might just get more of the streets cleared of the ice and snow. Then start all over again in the middle of next week. Oh well.
Have a great afternoon and evening back there. Please take care and stay safe!
Hey Mike! When there are one or more extra engines on the consist (like today) are all of them active or is one deadheading to pick up a train somewhere else? Thanks for posting, and stay warm!
Good morning, Jame; I thank you for dropping by and the comments/questions. All were running as they passed me today. Check the Virtual Railfan camera looking over the Big 10 curves west of Denver. I think they stayed with #5 and the extra may be being delivered to California for use out there from the Oakland yard. If it wasn't on the #5 headed up the Big 10, it was dropped in Denver for one reason or another.
Anyway, have a great afternoon and evening.
Please take care and stay safe!
Good morning Mike jensen My Name is Damien from the station something was in the station to probably board and Tell Mandy Damien Says Hi
Good morning, Damien; Thanks for stopping by and the comments. Nope. That was a freeloader who didn't have a ticket or baggage. We thought that was stopped here. Looks as though the freeloaders are back and need to find another place and a job.
Please take care and stay safe!
Yeah I'm sure that probably happens we're a freeloader thinks they can just hang out and hide out in the train station.
Please change year to 2025
Thanks!
