I assume because it was a direct sequel to GTA2. Those early top down GTA’s placed a heavy emphasis on your relationship with the different gangs. You had to be strategic with who you did business with because it could mean falling out of favor with a rival gang.

I was watching some kid play MGS on UA-cam a little while back and he had no clue what to do, because the game didn't hold his hand through it by giving him a radar with a destination point on it, or giving him on-screen prompts on what to do with weapons etc. It was cringe-worthy to watch. Just found his channel 4days ago, since then I watch his reviews and cant understand how he has only 10k subs. World class reviews and atmosphere, great thing to include the original OST in the backround. I am having huge chills to the gta3 theme song :D
Unfortunately I think its because he doesn't flood, begin or end with the "don't forget to like and subscribe" which I like that he doesn't do but may be big reason because he has the views
One of my favorite gaming moments in my life was when this game came out, one day I got home from school and saw my dad playing it and he said "look what I got you". I flipped out as he got me GTA 3. At the time I was 11. My parents weren't even close to strict and never cared about ratings or anything like that so they got games like these for me in that time before I would be able to buy my own games
This game was what got me to buy a ps2 in the first place, I actually got my hands on this game before I had the console. I bought the last copy in stock at my local Kay Bee Toy Store, but had to go to another town to get my ps2 as KB was out of stock. I had to go to a new Best Buy in Union City to get my console, and I picked up Max Payne to have another game to play...oh and this was in April of 2002, when I was barely 19...
I remember playing this game for the first time, it was so much fun. I remember laughing my ass of when rampaging through the city and wreaking havoc. Sure, it’s a bit dated, but still it’s an awesome game (San Andreas is probably my favourite though)
Great review. I just played through it all again for the first time in 19 years and I was surprised how much fun it still is, even with my modern day gaming standards. There is a gritty, grimy vibe to gta 3 that none of the other games have quite captured. The cheats are fun, too; make the NPCs all aggressive towards you and run for you life! 🏃♂️
Ahh year 2002 after nagging my mom & dad to purchase computer finally come over And the first game ive managed to play its was GTA3. Today are very outdated but back them. Its masterpiece.
💥💥I remember playing his game back in 2003 I used to pretend that liberty City was Philadelphia because that's where I'm from, and we have the liberty Bell that was a huge symbol of the civil war. Also a lot of that City reminded me of Philadelphia the over the head train system the underground train system etc
I don't know why but I never see anyone talk about the Grand Theft Auto 1960 UK that was on the PS1 it's like the original two but British and in the 60's
I remember getting this game when i was 11 or 13 , such a fun , violent , bloody game n GTA 3 was the one that got me hooked on Grand Theft Auto for life , played every single open world one gta 3 , vice city , san andreas , lcs , vcs , 4 & 5
I can't bitch about GTA 3, it was the game that started it all. Certain missions I hated, but I always looked at GTA 3 as the beginning of gaming and the end of 90's crime movies.
I played every game in the series except gta 4,Maybe in some day... i didnt played the mobile version of the 3D universe games but i played most of them on their own consoles and did go thru all of gta 2 jobs and gta 1 for some few hours. Gta 2 is harder than Gta 3 and its really not becuase of the top down view or the physics are differant(the way you control your character on foot can ramp it up a little tho),its becuase some of the jobs can have really specific and demanding requirements for them and it gets harder the more you prograss. The only gta 3 missions that were hard to me was Bomb da base act 2,espersso 2 go and the exchange. gta 5 can be actually really easy if you get used to how the game works, you will have some trouble with some things and die sometimes becuase its easier to die in 5 than in the previous games(imo) that said 5 is not really much appreciated to me,its good but it lacked alot of things that could made it better which is kinda disappointing.
i beat gta v on xbone 360 with no cheats at all and for me the game was easy the only gta games i have yet to beat is gta1 gta 2 and gta chinatown wars and the only reason why i haven't beat them yet is because i don't like the top down view and how the controls are in the game ie how the characters moved or the controls wen driving it just seemed way to awkward but other then those 3 games i mentioned i have beaten all the other GTA games
I remember this game blew my mind back in 2001. We had never seen anything like it and our parents were furious when they saw how violent it was. It was a completely different era in terms of gaming and culture in general.
People forget it was gta 3 that make gta popular not the ps1 games, or vice city or San Andreas it was already well known when vice city came out so we should thank this game for what we have today
I still have my copy before it was pulled off shelves for a bit in Australia. Those times car delivery missions were hell but Ive completed the main story so many times now. I love the game and still play it on my now modified ps2 fat with ssd.
Thank you for your work! This one brings the nostalgia so hard, my first game ever! In 2003 my mom brought the disk with GTA III from her co-worker and I was 7 years old. My god and what’s more important - I was a little girl! My mom certainly didn’t discriminate haha. GTA III has some unique vibes, well, when you’re a kid you can see so much!
So I just said F-it during quarantine and decided to buy the trilogy on my PS4 Pro... Now I swear, every time I try to play GTA 3 it feels just way too dated and bad and I give it up. But that's on PC. Something about this with that same classic controller style from the original, the console, sitting in front of the TV, having all the time in the world to play and hang out... and maybe most importantly, NOT using cheats (something I never really followed through with as a kid) it's been one of the coolest experiences playing a video game I've had in awhile. There's a good deal more old school video game style stuff, which means less of Rockstar's famous invisible boundaries and conditions for auto-failing a mission. So you really can get creative and tackle many of the missions any way you want. Being older now, this has brought out a whole new side of the game that I just never really bothered to dig into when I was a middle schooler doing rampages and passing the controller to a friend on Wasted screen, and only doing the bare minimum to beat missions without taking time to explore/enjoy them. GTA is always a bit of a 'time capsule' which made this return to GTA 3 really interesting... they didn't do quite as much as future games in terms of that but there were so many late-90s nostalgia things that brought out a lot of memories. Like seeing one of those "DVD CD VHS Giant Store"like FYE was IRL, or just seeing a lot of those late 90s model cars (corvettes and diablos etc) the radio stations were awsome. Some of the music on the electronic stations almost sounds like it could be semi-current, which is pretty cool. Anyways this game gets tons of criticism now, and it's widely said to not have aged well. I can't really dispute that if there's no nostalgia attached to your playthrough, but with the nostalgia factor I have loved replayng this for some reason this time around in 2020, with the PS4 one.
State of Emergency was such garbage. It's the only game I've ever played that made me physically ill. Maybe I was just coming down with something and it wasn't the game, idk.
Most people don't know this or flat out never realized this but GTA3 and Manhunt are actually connected to each other... During the final cut scene of Manhunt, the Journalist mentions the questioning of a police officer named Gary Schaffer. This is a reference to a radio bit in GTA3 where the DJ of Lips 106 mentions "police chief Gary Schaffer in nearby Carcer City" who is being indicted about some missing witnesses... Carcer City and Liberty City are basically right next to each other....
I completed GTA SA twice on 100% (now i have 85%), LCS, VCS, VC and III without cheats. And i found III brutal challenging, hard, aggressive and fun. On this game, it is really creepy, to get four stars. I love Chatterbox and Rise FM. I love that retro-futuristic atmo.
I think i was about 8 years old when I first played this in 2003. It was actually my brothers game... the missions were much to difficult for me to do after the introductory ones, but it sowed the seed of imagination. I would just roam the city for hours.... After this, every other video game felt so restricted & on rails. Tony Hawk was one of the only other games that gave me this sense of freedom. EVERYONE was playing either this or Vice City. Every house that had a gaming console was playing GTA! Ahhh the memories
In the UK, at least initially, the retail copies came with that original non-windowed cover art. I have one myself still. I do remember they changed to the windowed style later but for a while at least they did indeed ship early copies with the non-windowed art.
Can't sprint for more than 5 seconds? Boy you are doing it wrong. Mash the button instead of holding it. Unlimited Run. You are welcome. Edit: Some of the controversy was purposely created by Rockstar to do just that increase sales.
I don't really enjoy this game but I'm glad it exists as it would be the blueprint for better games in the GTA series as well as open-world titles to come.
I ‘meber when this was THE game. My mom wouldn’t let me play it; I was too young at the time. It took almost 2 decades, but I finally played it. #TakeThatMom
I loved the freedom gta 3 gave me. No handholding. You had all the agency to play anyway you wanted. Didn’t tell you where to stand or how to complete missions. Didn’t force you into ppls cars or fail if you slightly go outside the bounds of what the mission wanted. Even his complaint of not knowing where to go cause the map didn’t tell you. Learning the map was part of the gameplay. Learning the city was part of the story telling. Becoming a citizen of this violent town. If you saw a dot was placed in a strange part of the map you know it for sure it must be on another island. Perfectly finding the bridges because you memorized the whole area was what it was all about. Gaming was diff back then for sure.
People don't give the original enough credit, it had 3 cities and so much replayability. Was a great introduction to the series at the age of 14, and it feels like the games grew up with me

Unfortunately I think its because he doesn't flood, begin or end with the "don't forget to like and subscribe" which I like that he doesn't do but may be big reason because he has the views
gta 5 is less realistic than gta 4
Yurislav 7.62 but more fun in my opinion
Gta 4 is the best GTA. Through realism, subtle humour, great characters, immersion and intrigue.
Gta 4 is shit
@@skullxslayer2260 GTA IV is the shit.
the only reason gta 5 is more fun is the online features
i always hated the driving, especially the collisions in this game, but they improved it in further games
Nice review. This game is one of my favorite games of all time.
For me, this is still best GTA. So what?!
Whoa let's not get crazy here..
vice city for me
Nikola Peh best? Wtf no gta 3 is trash gta 4 vice city San Andreas gta 5 all better than gta 3

Got a cool channel here mah dude, subbed. Thanks for the entertainment. Binging your rockstar series whilst at work
This game was what got me to buy a ps2 in the first place, I actually got my hands on this game before I had the console.
I'll never forget starting this up for the first time. Incredible experience. I replayed it recently and I'm going for the platinum!
I remember playing this game for the first time, it was so much fun. I remember laughing my ass of when rampaging through the city and wreaking havoc. Sure, it’s a bit dated, but still it’s an awesome game (San Andreas is probably my favourite though)
I played it when it came out, and I'm playing it again now. It's still brilliant.
In 2001 I sold my dirt bike and bought a PS2 with MGS2 and GTA3. I don't think I've ever been more hyped and happy. Remember it like yesterday.
its alright they added the "Sanchez" in Vice City
You made a good choice my friend
Ahh year 2002 after nagging my mom & dad to purchase computer finally come over
And the first game ive managed to play its was GTA3. Today are very outdated but back them. Its masterpiece.
Wow... the jazz intro gives me so many memories 😔😕
You are partially correct since that was one place that inspired liberty city
I had a physical map when I was younger and had all the gun shops and shit marked with a sharpie
I don't know why but I never see anyone talk about the Grand Theft Auto 1960 UK that was on the PS1 it's like the original two but British and in the 60's
My favorite GTA game.
Also, drifting the Blista is always fun.
I remember getting this game when i was 11 or 13 , such a fun , violent , bloody game n GTA 3 was the one that got me hooked on Grand Theft Auto for life , played every single open world one gta 3 , vice city , san andreas , lcs , vcs , 4 & 5
GTA 3 is like the first IPhone.. the one that started it all 🙌🏻
and then downgrading while upgrading at the same time
I got a GTA online ad before this lol
I can't bitch about GTA 3, it was the game that started it all. Certain missions I hated, but I always looked at GTA 3 as the beginning of gaming and the end of 90's crime movies.
Recently downloaded it from PSN. Almost 20 years old and it still feels good. I was such a small boy when I first played it.
GTA games were so good when you would play using cheats, absolutely fantastic !!
Walker Johnson using cheats in GTA V is pathetic, because it's a easy game.
Well not if you are rampaging
Pão It’s hard on mobile because the controls are cramped.
Congratulations on 800 subs
watching your videos feels so good, makes me very comfortable. you deserve a lot more.

The original cover artwork was dope.
Don't play Just Cause 3 then
Journey awaits why not
Most of those “trial and error” issues can be resolved by reading the briefing. It tells you the location/area you’re supposed to go.
well, will most players even read the briefing? i had same problem as him bcs after mission the game gives no promopts of what to do
So much nostalgia for this game. Back in the days it really felt like a revolution in gaming. I've spent so much of my childhood in Liberty City...
Yes this is true and very cool
The game that started it all !!
10/10 vid man
I completed GTA SA twice on 100% (now i have 85%), LCS, VCS, VC and III without cheats.
I think he was speaking for the US standards
Lol I used to love using the flying cars cheat to fly a Cheetah across the broken bridge to get to the locked areas.
Can't sprint for more than 5 seconds? Boy you are doing it wrong. Mash the button instead of holding it. Unlimited Run. You are welcome.
Edit: Some of the controversy was purposely created by Rockstar to do just that increase sales.
back in the day no one knew this unless you have a strategy guide and in san andreas they patched it out
@@kuro9410_ilust was common knowledge at least everyone i knew knew how to do it.
Isn't that the tactic for every 3d gta game apart from San Andreas?
@@someguy8951 Thats what I thought. Everyone I knew did it. Think I figured it out due to frustration.
I've watched a couple of your reviews and they are great, good stuff.

I don't really enjoy this game but I'm glad it exists as it would be the blueprint for better games in the GTA series as well as open-world titles to come.
Why do you call it "GDA"?
Gaming was diff back then for sure.
after completing the first mission you had the option to continue story mode or...

Always glad I bumped into Body Harvest on N64. What a revelation of a game, loved it!
The radio music soundtrack in this is the best in my opinion
The definitive edition of this is my favorite video game.
People don't give the original enough credit, it had 3 cities and so much replayability. Was a great introduction to the series at the age of 14, and it feels like the games grew up with me
Gta 1 was replayable?
It doesn't have 3 cities it has three islands that are all part of Liberty City
I have a Request can you make a video on True Crimes Streets of L.A.😎
