1) ALWAYS have body armour 2) ALWAYS save after every mission 3) COLLECT every hidden package 4) Treat the IRON PATRIOT like your baby and only use it during the last few missions 5) If you can, keep your DISTANCE for every gunfight. 6) Do EVERY side quest! It’s incredible just how useful it is to have police bribes and extra health at every safe house!
Just watched this and didn’t even realize this was a smaller channel due to the great effort in the script and more. Great job and keep up the good work:)
7:17 This was a BIG problem that I had with this game and GTA Vice City. When shooting the enemies, they didn't stagger or show that they were losing health, so they would keep shooting you while literally being on fire until their HP went to 0%. So glad this changed in San Andreas.
I remember being a kid playing GTA 2, it was an idiotic 2D game, so comical and cartoony and my sister would watch me play it and she'd see me press Tab button making the character fart and burp constantly and she'd say "what a stupid game" and I'd tell her this game is gonna be huge, when GTA III came out and blew everyone away I felt like freaking nostradamus.
Brilliant game, you can't compare with today... this was revolutionary and unseen at the time. To be able to drive around cities, have cars, shoot, explore, have gang areas was amazing.
This game has a special atmosphere that I can't explain! Played this at launch back in 01 and it blew my mind. Replayed it many times since, and cant wait to do it again soon! XD
The atmosphere is one of the best parts. Dark, grey and gritty and perfectly fits in with the crime drama narrative. From what I've seen, the atmosphere isn't the same in the remaster.
I was 19 about to turn twenty when GTA 3 came out. I was amazed at how every single mission allowed you to approach the task however you wanted. I couldn't kill Salvatore leaving the nightclub without getting gunned down. Then I tried firing an rpg from the rooftop across the street. Success. This was the first game that really tossed you the keys and said have fun. Totally blew my mind. If course this trend would continue in subsequent GTA titles, this was Genesis for me.
The difficulty in Gta 3 and some of the other older games would be drastically reduced if there was some sort of a cover system. As far as I am aware, gta 4 was the first gta game to introduce a cover system so Niko could duck behind cars and walls and shit and fire from cover. That alone made the game so much easier than it's predecessors, it was unbelievable. I don't think I ever failed a single mission in GTA 4 more than twice. Whereas in Vice City and 3 I failed some missions up to 25 times or more.
@@Stinkyremy Do you mean VCS? Because I have never played that. And no, Gta Vice City and San Andreas don't have any cover system like Gta 4 where you press a button and your character immediately takes cover behind the closest wall or car, and you can't shoot from cover like Gta 4 either. I have played both SA and VC on and off for like 10 years, I would have figured out if they did.
@@Kaledrone Well clearly you have not figured it out. Just because the cover system in those games are rudimentary compared to 4 and Vs does not mean they did not have a cover system. Search online for it if you never figured out how to use cover in VC and SA.
Yep, as a kid i never completed gta lll and vc because there were missions that i didn't understand or were just so hard, now i'm trying to complete them
In early 2002 my dad was in a coma in Leeds LGI hospital, and I remember 17 year old me in the canteen with my mother trying to tell her how you could become so immersed in this game and walk anywhere in the map and comparing the tops of the buildings in front of us out of the window to the ones in the game. She was incredibly impressed, I bet.
Off topic, but something I found early on when I was a kid playing GTA 3 is at the very beginning of the game (once you complete the first mandatory missions), you can go and get a fire truck and just do the missions, putting out car fires. The cool aspect is that all cars from the different gangs and parts of the city will spawn. So, if you wanted a Yakuza car, or the Yardies hydrolic car, a cheetah, infernus, Cartel truck, Ice Cream truck etc etc etc, just do these missions till the vehicle appears, put out the fire and take the car. Its really awesome. I did something similar on GTA IV. GTA IV had those Brucie missions and there were 3 unique cavalcades in the game. One was black (with a silver/green/blue/red two tone paint) with black rims you got from the mob construction mission with Playboy X. You could fail the mission and go take it to one of your safehouses (you can also put the car on a safehouse parking spot before you even unlock it, which saves the car). Second was a Brucie car recovery email. It was a red cavalcade with black rims. You had to kill the enemies, then shoot the cavalcade where fire started to appear, mission would fail, then quickly jump in and use the phone cheat for health and armor to fix the vehicle. You gotta be quick. Then bam rinse and repeat till you have all the red cavalcades you wanted. Last one was a Brucie contact (forgot the guys name) and it was a teal cavalcade with black rims (my personal favorite) and do the same as the red one. I know that was super off topic, just a flood of memories came back and if anyone likes unique vehicles in GTA this was a way you could stock up. I am super excited to see what they do with GTA Deluxe edition and see if this first little trick works still on GTA III. I hope everyone is as excited as I am. So glad to see these games with newer graphics and brought back to life for console.
III isn't my favorite GTA game (in fact, I didn't really enjoy it much until I got my hands on the PC version with its much superior mouse-oriented camera aiming, and it doesn't help that I played it AFTER VC and SA), but I absolutely respect the hell out of it. Everything from Vice City to Red Dead Redemption II have had to stand on the shoulders of GTA III. I also really love III's atmosphere, it feels just like a grimy East Coast city circa the very late '90s/very early '00s. I can't wait to return to OG Liberty City in the Definitive Edition! EDIT - ... welp that last bit aged poorly.
8:44 That's why I ended up getting a mod that turns all gang hostility to 0 so I could go back to Portland without getting lit up by mafia guys with shotguns. It makes sense story-wise, but this meant if you blitzed through the story and wanted to go back to previous areas to do 100%, you'd find it stupidly difficult to get anything done. EDIT: Oops, you already touched on that, lmao. Glad to see I wasn't the only one who got bamboozled by this
that's very well put: "it's worth it for the feeling of mastery" It's definitely what keeps me coming back to this game over and over again. The feeling you get when you climb onto the train tracks, jump off the rails onto the roof of a building and pick up the ak-47 that you knew was hidden on top of that roof, know the location of a bunch of hidden packages and get free weapons for picking all of them up by memory, walk in the weird low-poly alleyway in between two buildings to find the secret room full of weapons or even use weird strategies to complete missions you've done before, like jumping off the cliff to get the police bribes and easily escape the cops on the bank robbery or plant a bomb on the car your target is going to try to escape with, is to me a feeling pretty hard to come across in more modern game design but personally perhaps THE more enjoyable part of this game's experience.
Definitely. It forces us to learn the map as there's no way point system. We know where the pickups are and we know routes through the city. Modern games don't do this, it's a shame.
Great, fair review of one of my top 5 favorite games of all time. Give me this and GTA SA over GTA V, where most of the countryside isn't even used for any sustained period in the main storyline. Or where at times you just feel like an administrator to the story, watching long cutscenes and then following a predetermined route. Smaller maps like these feel bigger than GTA V.
Thank you mate. I agree with you there, modern open world games need smaller more contained and more detailed maps. Also, the freedom in older GTA games is great, where we can tackle a mission in whatever way we want. Less hand holding is a good thing.
@@TwinSticksReviews Amen. Also, I'm a journalist kicking around a few story ideas about channels like yours. That email address on your page still a good one?
My god these people love to hate gta 5, GTA 5's map literally feels more alive than GTA 3 map, 3 feels completely dead after completing it even LCS didn't feel this dead
Thanks man! Do it! The frustrating parts are worth the great parts. I mean, just driving around the city and listening to the radio is the best thing about the game
Playing through Liberty City Stories for the first time. It's pretty much GTA III, with better visuals, shorter missions and more mini games. (also slightly different city, different radio stations, different car physics) and dual analog stick support, yessss. Also, due to knowing how infamously hard GTA 3 becomes, I'm doing all side missions first before attempting most story missions if I can, lmao.
That is a good idea, we need all the help we can get for some of the missions. Dual analogue support is a must these days, I can't imagine playing GTA 3 without it.
A bugbear of mine when it comes to gamer UA-cam is barely-literate scripts, and your video really bucks this trend. I appreciate your measured tone and careful choice of words. It was a fair and insightful comparison of then vs now, and sent me happily down memory lane.
That is really great to hear, especially the measured tone comment. Yeah, it was interesting to see how games have changed since and also how they haven't. I still think GTA3 nails it's open world, especially for the time.
Amazing video! GTA III still is my favorite, not because it's the best (clearly it's not) but because the setting is so interesting. Just walking around the town is so fun. I'm glad you touched this, because everyone just get mad at how hard the game is and bash it on that alone.
The atmosphere is great. It definitely felt like a gritty crime drama. I hope they don't add too much colour in the remaster. It was pretty much perfect in 2001.
Every time I go back to replay GTA 3 I expect it to feel aged and tired but then I answer the pay phone next to Joey’s auto shop with Marty Chonks on the other end and I realize I’m home
For the hidden packages mechanic i think it should be some kind of thing that says one is in the area in some way cause having absolutely zero way to know where to even look discourages me from even trying to find them all . Like i think it would be cool to start off like that, no indication of where they are but you can still find them, and then also have way for you at least know when one is in your area but not exactly where so you still do have to look . Obviously not exactly how i said but something like that to at least make it feel possible
Wow, you deserve much more subscribers. Everything is amazing here! Your narrating, the content and the comprehensive analysis is spot on. I saw you have one on Bioshock as well and hell yeah I’m watching that next. GTA III will always have a special place in my heart, there was nothing like ordering the Tuesday special from Domino’s pizza and getting into some exploration. Keep it up, you’re really good at this. 👍🏻
Wow thank you, that's an amazing comment to read! Exactly, GTA 3 is an incredible game to get lost in. It's open world was so much fun to explore even in 2020. Thanks for watching!
I'm so glad you talked about the radio, commercials and map. A lot of people who talk about GTA games mainly focus on the story and characters, rarely on the locations and world building. I just wish my memory was better because I had trouble learning the map layout. You touched on a great point when talking about the waypoint and minimap system in modern games. I would keep my eyes glued to the bottom-left corner and miss the actual game. I am now trying to force my eyes off of it.
Thanks, the radio is one of best parts of classic GTA. Yeah, I guess the big difference is that modern games have bigger maps so it would take too long to learn the layout, but I definitely prefer having no GPS here
If you try to feel the nostalgia by watching this video, believe me you won't! Playing the game is the only option! Sorry Twins ticks, but gta 3 is just so nostalgic, I played it in 2020 just to feel it!!! Can't believe it's about to celebrate 2 decades and still so many people playing it!!! Great review though!!!
You're right, the best way to experience a game is to play it first hand, but hopefully I did a good job of recreating some of that nostalgia for you. How did you find playing GTA 3 in 2020? As you can tell by my review, I thought it was great in 2021 (minus the brutal difficulty!)
@@TwinSticksReviews yeah man! Great review! The only difficulty i am facing right now is navigating through the city without a map in the menu. I can only memorise roads of roads of portland currently. But I know the complete map of vice city though, 'cause it was my childhood game. But gta 3 too is great and was very important for the gaming industry!!!
Yeah that was tough every time you move to a new island. I'd learn the layout of one area then get lost on the next. Keep going though as the feeling of mastery once you've learnt the map is amazing. Same here, Vice City was incredible growing up
This game was so groundbreaking at the time, people who weren't there have no idea. I finally revisited it earlier this year and beat it. It was a real challenge, but so worth it.
Completely groundbreaking at the time and some of it still is today. I thought the open world/atmosphere was incredible, but yeah definitely a challenge to beat some of the missions.
@@TwinSticksReviews My first memory of this game was when it first came out. I was at the lunch table, and my friend who had an older brother was tellin me he was playing GTA3 before school, and got in a high speed chase with the cops, ran over a light pole, blocked the road and got away. This sounded crazy at the time like yeah right. So I had to see for myself. I went over to his house to play it, and everything he said you could do was true. The size of the map at the time seemed lifelike. I also found out what a hooker was that day. His brother kept saying "don't tell your parents".
Great video! Platinumed this on PS4 about 6 months ago. Followed a guide and did the emergency vehicle sections straight away, and the ambulance missions were still a nightmare even without gangs around. Not ashamed to admit I used the better vehicle handling cheat (and the pause exploit for the vigilante missions). Also agree the open world is great - remember seeing the skyline of the 2nd island off in the distance from the 3rd island and being blown away by what a fully realised world this was, especially for 2001. Subscribed!
Congrats on the Platinum, that must have been tough. Not sure my stress levels could handle that. I honestly have no idea what they were thinking, I know games were harder back in the day, but the ambulance missions are verging on impossible. The open world was ahead of its time for 2001. And the fact we're still seeing parts of GTA 3 in modern games in mind blowing. Rockstar smashed it out of the park on their first attempt. So good! Thanks for watching and I appreciate the sub!
The point about learning a new map reminds me of me moving to a new city. The minute my dad left with the moving van, leaving me standing on the sidewalk, I felt like starting a brand new game of GTA, that felt genuinely awesome :)
GTA 3 was the first game that I played and it still remains as the most memorable memory of my life from playing video games . I still believe that like you said that GTA 3 is best game ever made!!!!!!! Thanks my friend for bringing back my old memories to more colour
Liked & Subscribed! I've beaten GTA 3 twice just this week on mobile. One of those playthroughs was getting all 100 hidden packages and still working on everything else for 100%
I learned this the hard that if you want to do the side missions Police/Medic/Firefighter/Taxi - YOU MUST DO THESE FIRST and I cannot stress how important this really is because if you do the storyline first then there is no way you can do these side missions because most gangs will hate Claude and will kill him. Here is my method of getting 100%, First Island: Side Missions All Reachable Packages Rampages Storyline All gangs on Portland are neutral towards Claude until you complete certain missions in the Storyline and only then the Triads and Diablos are hostile until you complete Sayonara Salvatore for Asuka. Second Island: Side Missions (note that only hostile gang is the Cartel in Fort Staunton area when first unlocked) All Reachable Packages Rampages Storyline Missions (The Yardies and the Cartel are hostile towards Claude once you complete the missions for the second Island) Only the Yakuza are friendly towards Claude on the second Island. Third Island: Same as above really. That's how I did the 100% when I last played the game in 2003. I moved onto Vice City when that came out in 2002 for the PS2 and didn't really bother with this game afterwards but I hope my method is helpful to someone that is struggling to get 100% :).
Damn that mission in which you had to blow up the stands, it still haunts me today alongside the mini helicopter one in vice city. anyway maybe because I was a kid but 3, VC and SA gave me some of the best gaming moments of my life
Let me give you a hint with rhe helicopter one in VC. When you take control of the rc helicopter don't pick up bombs. Go and kill the workers and the security guards with the helicopter blades and only after killing them go ahead and pick up the bombs (they don't respawn)
The espresso 2 go mission was a killer. You had to learn where the stands were, then plan the best route between them and the quickest way to blow them up, took me ages. The rc helicopter mission was a nightmare on release, but it's a bit easier today if you mod the controls to GTA V style.
@@Augustus_Imperator found about it when i went for a 100% run on all trilogy games back in 2014-15. Don't know how the fuck i've completed gta 3 without cheats. Just finished 3 some days ago, let's just say this time I did not have the nerves of steel I had back then. Now I replay Vice City and I'm surprisingly breezing through the missions and such
My favorite GTA of all time. i love the fast paced driving something neither VC or SA were able to emulate. 23:21 this is exactly why modern games suck that they hold your hand and waste your time explaining things rather than letting the player explore everything for themselves.
I recently felt like hitmarkers are more of a bandaid fix in order to give more feedback to the player when they're doing damage when they realize that the stun animations for the enemies just aren't noticeable enough. For multiplayer games it's fine since they can't make the animations too crazy and thus mess with the hitboxes but for single player games it always just looked lazy to me when they did that.
That's a good point. I've heard this sort of thing described as visual popcorn, along with damage numbers, which makes me cringe slightly. I guess it depends on the situation. If its an open world game where we're shooting enemies at range I'd like them, but for a linear game maybe not. I thought they worked well in Rage 2 where a red skull flashed on your cross hair when an enemy had been defeated.
Came here from the Vice City review. Wonderful content, definitely deserving of more views. Even though I typically don't subscribe, your content is genuinely good, so I did. Keep it up!
Excellent review man, I actually have the trilogy installed on my phone and make it a tradition to 100% them every time I switch devices. By now the disadvantages you mentioned about the controls are easy to get by cause of muscle memory and the abundance of visual media all over the internet. Anyway, your review really gives a lot of high end creators ones a run for their money. It's THAT good. If I may ask, when are you planning on making a review on the rest of the trilogy and the other quality R* games such as 4, 5 LCS, VCS, CTW, Max Payne, RDR?
Thank you man, that's very kind. I struggled with some of the missions with a controller, never mind with touch on a phone - that's an impressive feat. I'm in the process of editing my Vice City review, so that should be out next week, then SA after that. Probably 4 and 5 next year, then who knows. I'd like to review RDR though.
@@TwinSticksReviews Great dude, you know no pressure but I think the videos about the older versions of the trilogy being out before the definition edition ones hit the shelf would make a cool comparison video, you really remind me of another UA-cam named colourshed productions, he reviews older and new games, and he's also British. But for the amount of subscribers you have and for the quality of content you produce should be criminal. You know like in boxing there is a best pound for pound player, you're most likely the best pound for pound UA-camr, comparing your sub count to the quality of videos. It may be discouraging sometimes to see your other reviews fall short in the view count compared to the GTA, don't start doubting yourself, cause the quality of the vids are just as good, it's just many people are gravitated towards Rockstar more than any other company sadly. Your watch dog videos were excellent, sadly Ubisoft are trying so hard to be another GTA success, when they can be so much more. I for one like mayhem and doing things not so stealthy, but even that doesn't stop me from admiring and being flattered by watch dogs' approach to the modern world, as almost every single person stepping foot on this earth has a smartphone, and hacking is basically implemented in our lives for the better or the worse. This is REALLY getting long, all I want to say keep pushing man, everyone likes to watch those big named UA-camrs, there's no guarantee you'll ever be one, but at least you got the pleasure of doing what you love on a practically daily basis. I'm gonna keep searching through your videos, but I admit there's not a lot of things to view, you gotta step up your game bro 😅. It's like a drug, once you see one, you want more, you're definitely gonna grow and really quick. Btw before I go for good, which GTA was your favorite out of the trilogy and which GTA is your favorite GTA of all time? Take care man, and have a good day, I'd assume your still living in the U.K so it would be about 11:15 AM for you, so I'm valid enough to say that 😂
Thank you man, that's an amazing comment, it means a lot. Out of the original trilogy Vice City is my favourite - so many good memories playing it growing up. I can't remember mutch about SA though, so maybe that will be better when I replay it. Which is your favourite?
0:38 Instead we would have a different set of games doing it, and instead would be saying "Without Street Slaughter, we wouldn't have these games!" We'd still have the third person open world genre, we'd just have different games in it and be fond of those instead. So it isn't all bad. Early on we had games like Terminator, Vette! and Hunter doing it in the early 90's. So we would still have the genre in some form. GTA 3 didn't do it first, it did it popular. It's funny, some of these immersive things that GTA 3 did....GTA 1 did, like the paramedics and fire engines. GTA 2 had hidden packages too. GTA 1 and 2 had trains. You could even drive them in GTA 1 and blow them up. As well as radio stations. GTA 1 and 2 had the same map thing, even lacking a minimap. Rockstar did GTA 2...so it wasn't entirely their first.
Haha Street Slaughter sounds like a great game. It's definitely on Steam early access somewhere. I think it was a combination of GTA 3 popularising the genre, but also adding in new features that felt like a natural evolution. They did a lot of firsts too, the first game to stream data from disc and the blend of driving, on foot and shooting gameplay.
This was a great video! I've really been enjoying my replay of this game. You only touched on this briefly but a big reason why the voice acting was so good is that they had a phenomenal voice cast. Michael Madsen, Michael Rappaport, Kyle McLachlan, Frank Vincent, Robert Loggia, Joe Pantoliano (Cypher from the matrix!)...Some of these people were pretty big stars, and a lot of them specialized in organized crime roles. This isn't to mention the more typical voice actors who, while they're not famous, certainly all did a great job! This was in 2001. I don't think I know of another video game that actually went out and sought such high pedigree actors for a video game. The GTA series was a top-down arcade-ish game before this. Can you imagine the pitch they gave all these actors? They got Kyle McLachlan to play the shady businessman in a video game in 2001! Utterly amazing and game-changing. I know this probably sounds like no big deal in the 2020s but I was honestly shocked when I looked at the book that came along with the game in 2001 and actually recognized some of the names.
I have no idea how they pulled it off either. With VC they had the success of GTA 3 to get people in, but GTA 3 was completely new. Maybe the actors were fans of GTA 1 and 2?
Amazing vid. I remember having my friend buy me this as at age 17, my mum decided i was too young 😅. This game was pretty special. I loved the black and not blue box too
dear god please tell me you'll do a break down of the other 3D games too, and I don't just mean Vice City and San Andreas ;) also WTF? 181 SUBS? your video quality is unreal and if I didn't just make it 182 I would of assumed you were a multi-thousand sub channel. great production!
Yeah I'll review them all eventually. Probably Vice City and San Andreas this year, and IV and V next year. Not sure about stories, but we'll see - I might be GTA'd out after that. Also, thanks that's great to hear. Fingers crossed the channel takes off
Shenmue came before GTA 3 but it was on an obscure console that not many people brought, GTA 3 was the first open world game that popularized the concept. Nowadays, we cannot even imagine a 3d video game without basic free roaming.
Yeah GTA3 wasn't the first 3D open world, but from my understanding, it was the first on this scale, with a vast sandbox that blended on foot, shooting and vehicle gameplay. Exactly, it seems standard today, but back then it was groundbreaking
ye it deals about 20 damage points per shot and also spews bullets 2-3 times faster than UZI or AK47. Luckily the NPC's have Stormtrooper-like accuracy if they are above 5 meters away from the player. This is showcased in the second mission on Stanten Island where you need to snipe a bunch of CIA standing on the skyscraper opposite to Kenji's casino. They do have M16's but they will never hit you with them. If you're quick you can still grab the weapon pickups from them - i think this is the earliest M16 you can get.
I'd say it's still pretty good. Plus what makes it so durable is how the map size not so different then newer GTA's. GTA 4's map is barely bigger, and GTA5 is much bigger, but San Andreas comes close
You are just seeing an illusion. One of the islands in GTA4 is as big as the entire map of GTA3. You can search online for the sq km of each GTA map but 4 and 5 are massive in comparison to even gta SA which is the biggest of the 3 PS2 games.
@@Stinkyremy actually gta iv is less than half of SA total size. Officially GTA 3 is 7.5 sq KM (bigger with ghost town and other unnaccessable areas), Gta vc is almost 9 sq KM, GTA IV is 16 sq KM, GTa SA is 38 sq KM, GTA V is 72 sq km
The part about the Firefighter *🚒* , Ambulance *🚑* and Vigilante *🚓* resonated with me SO hard...I’m trying to clean up trophies on The Definitive Edition and got Firefighter checked off no problem, but even starting a new game with no payphone missions done, and as such, no chance for any gangs to be pissed off at you, and with the first responder vehicle of choice in the garage, ready to be used for its missions, Ambulance and Vigilante are a pain in the ass to complete for their trophies, which contribute to the larger “Furious First Responder” trophy for doing all 3 sets of those missions. I somehow miraculously got through 13(! 😭😡) Vigilante missions before I was blown up using that method. And I tried using the skip that got me to Staunton Island early for the Ambulance missions since the time limit is more forgiving there, but one of the gangs there was already hostile and shooting at me on sight, so I inevitably got blown up, AGAIN by them no matter how carefully I drive, because sometimes you HAVE to stop in an area where the game tells you to pick up a patient, and it gives ZERO FUCKS if your vehicle gets filled with holes and looks like Swiss cheese. It pisses me right the fuck off.
Also, though, to be fair and give TDE credit where it’s due, even though, yes, it is a basic Quality of Life thing, in that version you can pause and look at a full in game map. However, as to the main question, I unfortunately have to disagree. I think if the question was if it was still GOOD and not GREAT, my answer would be an unqualified yes; however, great? Nah. It’s just got too many aspects that look and feel antiquated by today's open world game standards.
It's best to do it on the first island. And when in doubt, use the in game map in the definitive edition to determine which patients are closer to you. Remember, with every patient rescued, it heals your ambulance up a little bit, no matter how much cosmetic damage it's taken. Knock the passenger door and the doors in the back off with the baseball bat so the patients can get in faster. Also, the handbrake is your best friend when you got to deal with sharp turns! I passed it in one sitting doing this! Good luck and I hope this helps!
Gta 3 is one of my favorite games still to this day because I am a big fan of the open world game, the game can be extremely frustrating on console and I actually hate console games because I’ve grown up with PC games and it’s more enjoyable to manually aim than to have auto aim, Gta 3 don’t run good at all in 2021 on PC, But if you download silent patch everything will get fixed, like bigger square objectives on mini map so you can see the objective, fixed the dark car bug on Steam, every weapon is fixed to the aim dot, no crashes at all, I literally mean it, 300 hours on Steam without a single game crash, always play in 30FPS I see so many people trying to play in 60FPS and the game gets nearly unplayable, if you just try to play in 30FPS for 5 minutes you will get used to it because it’s consistent and it runs smoothly without any problems, like my brain hate when I play other games on 60FPS and it goes down to 59 because its become enoying frame lag. That’s why you cap Gta IV for example in 62FPS in nvida settings for best experience because the game for example goes bizarre over 70FPS like the AI will bump into walls and doors and you have to push the characters in missions, that’s why I capped it,
GTA 3 is my favorite one forever. Every corner, every sound, every texture, every dialogue are so familiar. Completed it likes 10 times at least. Liberty city from GTA 3/LCS is location which could tell us way more stories than it did.
The side content and collectibles in every GTA game should be completed BEFORE you finish the story, as early as possible because they give you rewards that will mostly be useful during the story missions, they're kinda pointless afterwards.
Yep. and as he said in this vid, it is best to do them very early on in portland. For me I collect the 32 packages in portland before I even finish the first mission while I am still in the prison suit, I then do about 3 missions and collect loads of guns around portland then I do the ambulance, police and fire missions.
@@Stinkyremy I don't do them every time because it's grindy and I don't feel like doing them. And also, I already have an 100% save in every GTA so there's no point in doing it again. It is recommended for those that want 100%. Mainly GTA 3 should be done as early as possible because almost the entire map becomes hostile eventually. The other GTA games don't have a problem like this, so you can take your time with those.
@@radicalcentrist4990 Well the paramedic gives you infinite sprint. I know it might seem a bit strange to do them even if you are not going for 100% but actually taking the 20 or so mins to get them done actually saves you a massive amount of time later on through your play through because you have infinite sprint, you never have to slow down to catch a breath, something that can make you fail a mission or even get you killed as well as waste time. I often used to forget in 3 and VC that there was a stamina mechanic to running because I always run through the ambulance missions very early, get them out the way.
You need to choose your weapon cafefully for a particular mission. And in order to accomplish that goal, you need to play through each mission and experiment. And you need to be willing to die a few times before you come up with the right weapon for the mission at hand.
The Vice City review is currently underway, so expect to see that in the coming months. I plan to review all the mainline games up to GTA5 and maybe stories afterwards - we'll see
Awesome video, I have happily subscribed. GTA 3 is my personal favorite in the series, the PS2 trilogy is my favorite era for GTA and Rockstar games overall. Will you be doing a follow up when the remasters come out on November 11th?
Thanks for the sub! Potentially, although I've just started reviewing SA so it would be after that. I'm sure a lot of people will cover it anyway and we'd just end up repeating ourselves, but we'll see.
Having recently completed the original Trilogy to 100% with a few patches for controller support and bug fixes, GTA3's crash physics really stand out as being overally old and awful. The whole game has you bumping into cars and lampposts and being sent flying in any which direction. But I still enjoyed it immensely from start to finish. Despite leaving GTA3 to the last (and least), it was still a brilliant experience to play it again as well as Vice City and San Andreas. A superb Trilogy. Thank you for videos.
If you think this game difficulty is hard and missions are hard to complete that's because you haven't done the side missions and collectibles. Side missions and collectibles in gta 3 give you amazing rewards. Like weapon pick up at your safehouse, infinite sprint, police bribes at your safehouse, better faster and unique cars, and much more. Doing side missions at the very beginning of the game is the #1 rule for every classic 3d Era gta games. Meaning from Gta 3 all the way up to Vice City Stories.
I still think the game is hard even with the rewards from side missions and hidden packages. It was other things too, like Rockstar placing enemies around corners so you basically die the first time you play that section. Yeah defnitiely best ticking off side content first. Wish I knew that before trying to do everything towards the end.
@@TwinSticksReviews I found GTA games got gradually easier with time (so did all games actually). Try GTA 1; I grew up playing it and never even beat the whole game, despite days of practice.
Yeah games were solid back in the day. I'm glad we have forgiving checkpoint systems now though, as well as enemies that don't hide behind corners. That was the worst.
@@TwinSticksReviews I don't know. I prefer it better without checkpoints. Makes it more difficult and challenging. Also when you do fail the mission it makes you get more creative on how to pass the mission. Where as in gta v you don't have to struggle because of checkpoints. And if you keep failing you can just skip the whole section of mission by just pressing a button. I mean like wtf? No I don't like that
@@theelitegrinder4338 for me it depends on the situation. I didn't like it in GTA3 as the hard bit was always at the end of a mission. So I'd spend 5 minutes doing the easy section then die, then spend another 5 minutes doing the easy section again. But then on the last mission, which was pretty hard throughout, it was fun trying to master it. In an ideal world, the checkpoints would be after different sections like a FromSoftware game.
GTA 3 specifically will forever be a universal classic. It was the start of a new era when it was released. It really was a pivotal and historical moment in time when it first came out. I was about 7 or 8 playing this and i had to hide it from my uncle because it was violent as hell and he didn't like me playing it. I'll never forget it. True genuine geniuses..yes you read that right. Rockstar has to be the greatest gaming company of all time. If it wasn't for this game i wonder where gaming would be today 🤷🏽♂️🤔 . Man oh man. I'll be 50 years old still playing these classics at home.
It's missions are not that difficult you just got to think outside the box, the game has it's Flaws. Keeping that in mind it's easy to manipulate. For example I would setup a car when I knew the route the AI was going I would set up a car just before it would trigger the mission so I knew exactly where in the mission my vehicle was taking damage then I would simply hop into a new vehicle and continue. Like you said the game was made in 2001 so AI in games was still very primitive.
Nice one, thanks for subbing. Yeah the remasters should be great, if only if they update the controls for number 3...so bad! It will be interesting to see what they change
Honestly I completed gta 3, 5 times in Android but I think why gta 3 is not much popular as vice city and San Andreas Note= pls play gta 3 if u not play i request . Good work keep it up
On PS4 and with Definitive Edition, there's an achievement for completing all of vigilante in one run. That one was si hairpulling that when I got it, I added it to my trophy case alongside Black Ops 3 Realistic and the insane speedrun achievements in Little Nightmares and Superliminal and sending to gnome to space in HL2 Episode 2.
I found GTA 3's hidden packages more reasonably positioned than VC. I could honestly find about 70-80 of the packages without any guide, it's not easy, but it was a reasonable challenge and most importantly it was fun. The inclusion of helicopters in VC means many packages were hidden on rooftops, which is stupid, because nobody's going to bother checking every rooftop; they should all be accessible on foot imo, otherwise it's not fun. Didn't bother with the collectables in VC, map just isn't as fun to search.
I couldn't ever go back to a game like this that I once loved more than any game ever. Everything moves on, graphics, sounds, cutscenes but also mechanics move on a huge amount. It's the same with cars, I had a GTE 16 valve back in the 90s when I was an Essex Boy Racer. I loved that car more than anything! For its time it was RAPID and as a twenty odd year old I had some great moments, some very fast moments and some very scary moments. But that was over 20 years ago! If I drove one today I know it wouldn't drive anywhere near as good as I remembered it as cars are built way better today, way more solid and safe, better suspension, chassis, brakes etc. That's my opinion with old games. Sometimes it's best just to move on with things as technology gets SO MUCH better over the years. When it gets to a new generation I NEVER go back to the old generation ever again. But I do enjoy you doing it!
this isn't really connected to the video but i can't stand that tiktokers with no talents dancing get waaaaay more clout than this guy actually making an useful and great video.
if games hadn't moved on and left GTA 3, the first real open world sandbox in the dust, that would be upsetting. it's still a fun game but it's objectively dated, as it should be at this point.
Last note, I think a really great game you should do next is The Getaway. Seems like people forgot about this game but its one of those old school greats that is also its own thing.
what makes Lazlow one of the better personalities in game is he is actually a real person, and an actual radio host so while he's acting he pulls it off better in my opinion.
1) ALWAYS have body armour
2) ALWAYS save after every mission
3) COLLECT every hidden package
4) Treat the IRON PATRIOT like your baby and only use it during the last few missions
5) If you can, keep your DISTANCE for every gunfight.
6) Do EVERY side quest! It’s incredible just how useful it is to have police bribes and extra health at every safe house!
And do the side missions at the beginning

7:17 This was a BIG problem that I had with this game and GTA Vice City. When shooting the enemies, they didn't stagger or show that they were losing health, so they would keep shooting you while literally being on fire until their HP went to 0%. So glad this changed in San Andreas.
I remember being a kid playing GTA 2, it was an idiotic 2D game, so comical and cartoony and my sister would watch me play it and she'd see me press Tab button making the character fart and burp constantly and she'd say "what a stupid game" and I'd tell her this game is gonna be huge, when GTA III came out and blew everyone away I felt like freaking nostradamus.
well you were right, it became something bigger then you probably imagined
Haha fucking gold man 😂🔥🔥🔥🐐🐐🐐 goated forever
I wonder, if R* went bust or whatever after GTA 2, would the series have any legacy? Was GTA up til GTA III really that inconsequential?.
GTA 2 was definitely the best of the top down gameplay and actually a real good GTA.
This game is fuckinf legendary
Brilliant game, you can't compare with today... this was revolutionary and unseen at the time. To be able to drive around cities, have cars, shoot, explore, have gang areas was amazing.
The vigilante missions don't have to be all 20 in a row, it's accumulative, funny how I still remember this years after playing this game
This game has a special atmosphere that I can't explain! Played this at launch back in 01 and it blew my mind. Replayed it many times since, and cant wait to do it again soon! XD
I know what you mean, it gives off a certain claustrophobic, dark and immersive atmosphere, it feels alive even more so than any GTA after this.
The atmosphere is one of the best parts. Dark, grey and gritty and perfectly fits in with the crime drama narrative. From what I've seen, the atmosphere isn't the same in the remaster.
@@TwinSticksReviews It isn't the same, the remaster is a mess
@@TwinSticksReviews Yeah I don't know how to feel about the remaster :/
YES, agree 100%. amazing game back then and still fun now if you grew up with it

I feel outta GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas? GTA 3 has something unique about it 💯
@@91Definitethe at atmosphere and sound design sets it apart. And portland island is top 5 first areas in gaming
Actually VC had a cover system but it was under utilized because the AI is shit and you don't need it. I think the same with SA.
This is the kind of cover system I am talking about, there is nothing like this in VC and SA: ua-cam.com/video/S-yzt2Zhc5s/v-deo.html
How is your dad? Is he fine?
GTA 5 gold standard for driving? Every car feels the same except for trucks being the only difference
Holy Shit I did not expect you to have only 500 subs. This literally felt like a high production documentary.
Glad to see I wasn't the only one who got bamboozled by this
that's very well put: "it's worth it for the feeling of mastery"
It's definitely what keeps me coming back to this game over and over again.
I agree! I hate how empty GTA 5 map is
My god these people love to hate gta 5, GTA 5's map literally feels more alive than GTA 3 map, 3 feels completely dead after completing it even LCS didn't feel this dead
Brilliant review!! Ive put so many hours in this game over the years and watching this has made me want to play it again.
Thanks man!

Wait what?! You only have 112 subs?? that's insane. The editing and theme was so great, I didn't even realise. You're getting a sub man.
Thank you man, that's very kind of you. Yeah, I've only been doing this for a year, but hopefully the algorithm is kicking in now.
Bioshock huh. time to go through the Twin Sticks' video catalog
Yeah, I guess the big difference is that modern games have bigger maps so it would take too long to learn the layout, but I definitely prefer having no GPS here
The AI and the comments they have is what makes me love this game and the radio is really good on this game to.

So good!

Thanks man, apprecite it. Good luck on the 100% - the paramedic missions are a killer.
Here is my method of getting 100%,
First Island:
Side Missions
All Reachable Packages
Rampages
Storyline
All gangs on Portland are neutral towards Claude until you complete certain missions in the Storyline and only then the Triads and Diablos are hostile until you complete Sayonara Salvatore for Asuka.
Second Island:
Side Missions (note that only hostile gang is the Cartel in Fort Staunton area when first unlocked)
All Reachable Packages
Rampages
Storyline Missions (The Yardies and the Cartel are hostile towards Claude once you complete the missions for the second Island) Only the Yakuza are friendly towards Claude on the second Island.
Third Island:
Same as above really.

My favorite GTA of all time. i love the fast paced driving something neither VC or SA were able to emulate.
23:21 this is exactly why modern games suck that they hold your hand and waste your time explaining things rather than letting the player explore everything for themselves.
My god you deserve more than 2000 subs. The quality of the review is so good
I recently felt like hitmarkers are more of a bandaid fix in order to give more feedback to the player when they're doing damage when they realize that the stun animations for the enemies just aren't noticeable enough.
The time put into this video is just wonderful ❤️

The clunkiness and difficulty is the one of the main reasons i love gta 3. its a lovely mess
Real talk it made me get creative on how to complete many missions
@@KAUTIOUZBEATZ4 oh yes, thats the best part
Played through every year since it released. Yes YES it is still great
I wached this like so many times, ilove this channal
Definitely worth it with the great soundtrack, characters and atmosphere!
The soundtrack is one of the best. Loved the 90s/early 00s tunes. So nostalgic!
I loved the black and not blue box too
dear god please tell me you'll do a break down of the other 3D games too, and I don't just mean Vice City and San Andreas ;)
also WTF? 181 SUBS? your video quality is unreal and if I didn't just make it 182 I would of assumed you were a multi-thousand sub channel. great production!
NO WAY u have just 280 subs, such an amazing channel good luck in the future bro
The M16 in gta 3 is literally a minigun, whenever the enemies have it, pray you shoot first
ye it deals about 20 damage points per shot and also spews bullets 2-3 times faster than UZI or AK47.
22:32 that’s amazing Iw would’ve never found that out haha so cool !
Yeah, little details like this are great. The fact Rockstar went to the trouble of adding it in was phenomenal. Modern games don't do it this well.
Watched the video and was very surprised to learn that you have 104 subs at the time of writing this comment. A very good job 👍
Thank you mate. And thanks for the sub 👍
Gta 3 is one of my favorite games still to this day because I am a big fan of the open world game, the game can be extremely frustrating on console and I actually hate console games because I’ve grown up with PC games and it’s more enjoyable to manually aim than to have auto aim, Gta 3 don’t run good at all in 2021 on PC,
But if you download silent patch everything will get fixed, like bigger square objectives on mini map so you can see the objective, fixed the dark car bug on Steam, every weapon is fixed to the aim dot, no crashes at all, I literally mean it, 300 hours on Steam without a single game crash, always play in 30FPS I see so many people trying to play in 60FPS and the game gets nearly unplayable, if you just try to play in 30FPS for 5 minutes you will get used to it because it’s consistent and it runs smoothly without any problems, like my brain hate when I play other games on 60FPS and it goes down to 59 because its become enoying frame lag. That’s why you cap Gta IV for example in 62FPS in nvida settings for best experience because the game for example goes bizarre over 70FPS like the AI will bump into walls and doors and you have to push the characters in missions, that’s why I capped it,
This video is brilliantly done, keep it up mate
Thanks, will do!
GTA 3 is my favorite one forever. Every corner, every sound, every texture, every dialogue are so familiar. Completed it likes 10 times at least. Liberty city from GTA 3/LCS is location which could tell us way more stories than it did.
Lazlow was my favorite radio GTA host
Same, he's properly funny. Apparently he helped write a lot of the radio sections too
When I played gta 3 for the first time and oh boy I raged so hard on this game
Haha, it is ridiculous at times. The enemies hiding behind corners was the worst.
I can see this guy hitting 1k in a month probably it’s sooooo good
You need to choose your weapon cafefully for a particular mission. And in order to accomplish that goal, you need to play through each mission and experiment. And you need to be willing to die a few times before you come up with the right weapon for the mission at hand.
Excellent content for such a small channel, subscribed, I got a feeling this channel will blow up 👌
Would love to see an Vice City, VC Stories and Liberty City Stories review. Your Review was awesome!
The Vice City review is currently underway, so expect to see that in the coming months. I plan to review all the mainline games up to GTA5 and maybe stories afterwards - we'll see
@@TwinSticksReviews Awesome man!! can't wait. Keep up the good work :)
Very nice review. You got a new sub right here :)
Hyped for the remastered
Nice one, thanks for subbing. Yeah the remasters should be great, if only if they update the controls for number 3...so bad! It will be interesting to see what they change
0:42 Come on, we definitely would have Mafia II as Mafia I was released in 2002..but I get your point
Honestly I completed gta 3, 5 times in Android but I think why gta 3 is not much popular as vice city and San Andreas
Note= pls play gta 3 if u not play i request .
Loved your video man. Keep up the great work. This videos a classic
For me, it always will be. Great video!
Thank you! Yeah it's still a classic today. Just timeless
Didn't bother with the collectables in VC, map just isn't as fun to search.
this is great. I've been getting some old GTA recommendations and I just love them..
the classic ones, I mean. not the "remastered" monstrosities
I want to like this video more than once.
Subbed!
Thank you mate!
All things concidered, this is a good video. You touched on a lot of interesting points, and presented them well.
No matter what platform you play on GTA 3 is a great game!!! I can’t wait to have it on the switch TBH. It’s actually fun playing on the iPhone.
I'm interested to see how the remasters run on Switch. It would be great having all 3 on the go with decent controls.
You hooked me right in with Sum 41. One of my favorite bands and I don't care what anyone thinks
They're so good. I still know the words to In Too Deep off by heart, even all these years later haha
@@TwinSticksReviews I've seen them live twice. Fantastic and I highly recommend it.
Subbed, definitely binge watching your videos on my day off
this isn't really connected to the video but i can't stand that tiktokers with no talents dancing get waaaaay more clout than this guy actually making an useful and great video.
I barely ever comment, but i thought you were a 100K+ channel based on the video quality!
if games hadn't moved on and left GTA 3, the first real open world sandbox in the dust, that would be upsetting. it's still a fun game but it's objectively dated, as it should be at this point.
Keep making vids bro
I'm a proud sub
Last note, I think a really great game you should do next is The Getaway. Seems like people forgot about this game but its one of those old school greats that is also its own thing.
I'll add it to the list mate. I actually mentioned the Getaway in my Vice City review. It seemed decent from the brief gameplay I saw.
Bro by the content this guy is providing i would give him milions of subs. Keep it up dude
what makes Lazlow one of the better personalities in game is he is actually a real person, and an actual radio host so while he's acting he pulls it off better in my opinion.
