Yea if that wasn't obvious already though. Passing on this
You could have sensed that from a mile away though
density and history wise.
this is their first try, maybe the sequel will perfect it
Its a barren bland world and a huge joke for 60 dollars and lmfao a 60 dollar "first try" hahahaha
I'd at say they are at least going down the right path. They are just doing it rather slowly.
Slowly? Or they just dont care since people will buy their pokemon shiet anyways.
@@emdo2395 Shut the heck up with that crap. If they didnt care, why did they completely change so many mechanics and improved things overtime? Especially considering the state of AAA games

@@AwesomeNick94 its not "one of" the biggest, it's THE biggest media franchise in history.
The world design definitely gives the impression of a game that was on a really accelerated release schedule and was trying to keep costs low in case the game flopped. Hopefully the positive reception sees them continue this line of games with more polished content and a bigger budget with more time, as this is a fantastic foundation.
Every pokémon game for years has been the same ‘low budget’. Don’t expect it to change.
@@nowlibongo6123 and people always hope gamefreak “learns” and make better looking games, just to end up disappointed again lmaoo
More polished content? Haha, dream on it. Pokemon games are far away to be polished. Remember Pokemon Colosseum for gamecube? That game looks better than this. No,, man, this game is disappointing.
How can a game with Pokémon in the name flop. Every single Pokémon game has sold extremely well despite being well under the quality standards for the respective genre each game is in. Even then the Pokemon brand has enough money behind it to “take risks”. There is zero excuses for anything Pokemon related to not be top cut in design. They have the money, the brand, the recognition, the influence.
@@Swillo true. Game Freak is full of lazy developers, the don't care about polishing. They sell a brand not a decent game.

It'd be cool to get a pokemon game on the same level as breath of the wild, with it's perfect and awe inspiring open world. I'm surprised such a big brand didn't attempt something on that scale
Game freak is super lazy, its taken them this long to change things, they would never do that
It’s because their fan base are some of the dumbest around. They purchase the unfinished, sub-par mainline Pokémon titles every single year at full price. They’re over saturated and uninspired games.

Regardless of all opinions, one thing that seems that everyone seems to be happy about is that they FINALLY tried something different.
Edit: come on. Stop mentioning Mystery Dungeon, ect. That's clearly a effing spin off. Arceus feels like a main line game. The entire way we do things in the game, though they may be the same things, is done differently.

Pokémon Colosseum ?
Have no problem with IGN giving this a 7 but maybe shouldn’t have also given sword&shield a 9
Or maybe they can because they don't have to agree with you

Sword and Shield are better games than this. This game is the Wild Area minus all the other stuff in Pokémon games. Atleast Sword and Shield had a mainline game PLUS a Wild Area lol.

IGN did give anyone anything. The person who reviewed S&S gave it a 9. The person who reviewed Legends Arceus gave it a 7.
This is a very exciting new direction for the franchise. Hopefully they keep refining this formula.
The formula can’t get anymore basic than this at least. All it can be is refined.

Fingers crossed for Pokémon violet and scarlet
Haha they fumbled the bag again
After 150 hours of investing in Scarlet and Violet, gotta say they are fun, but the art style is not as immaculate and smooth as PLA.
This really looks like baby's first open world. Open world Pokemon is a perfect idea, but you can't achieve that potential with the low budget and short development time Game Freak operates with. But that was obvious from the moment this was announced.
That on top of the lack of voice acting and proper cutscene animation and direction just makes this look like a low budget indie title, and not the new installment in a series that consistently sells millions of copies.
AKA another cashgrab
And they are still going to make a billion dollars because of the Pokemon fans who are in total denial about all the criticism...
lol this is no baby open world game the bosses are awesome.... better than any Pokemon game...
@@jamihcustodio6808 low bar but congrats man.
"lack of voice acting" excuse me, please do tell what pokemon game has voice acting?
Hopefully they can improve the game world, optimise, improve graphics and build on what is here for a strong sequel, easily the most significant and ambitious switch up from GF which is nice to see
Knowing gf they'll do that in the next game or not at all
GF will not update the game that vastly knowing their stubborn and tone deaf attitude lol. They’ll give you a better game with the next installment, maybe.
I'll be waiting on modders to fix everything. Once they crack it, they will probably be able to update the textures, fill up the empty areas with content, and fix the technical issues. If the gameplay is as fun as the reviewers say, then those simple mods should make the game great.
@@iRsemple "empty areas"

Pokemon fans are about to dox the reviewer for criticizing the game
LMFAO True! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Facts💀
They’re gonna spend more time defending the game than Game Freak did making it 😭😭😭😭

3 options to catch Pokémon is a buffet?
The reference to Lovers in a Dangerous Time song (or the game Spacetime) title got me right away!
They should do a “Pokémon Gold” remake using this format and gameplay mechanics. That would be an awesome release on maybe on a more powerful second generation switch which can handle better graphics.
We gotta get through black/white, x/y, sun/moon and red/blue/yellow before we’re back to gold/silver/crystal so maybe in 15-20 years lol.
Well we did get a Lets First Gen Game. Maybe a Second Gen Game is not compeltely random
And they need to remove Kanto from Johto, thats what made Gen 2 is terrible in the 1st place
@@skullerclawerbandicoot7966 dude that’s one of the reasons gold/silver is beloved cause it’s literally two games in one,
Exactly. Johto without Kanto would be fistpunch into the Fans face
The reason why its always “the next pokemon game will be great” is because nintendo knows they dont need to spend money on making the game great. People will buy any pokemon game they make
Nintendo only owns a 1/3 of Pokémon they don’t control the series the Pokémon company do
Ya that's true if people are willing to spend money on pokemon toilet paper. Pokemon basically has their fans on the plam of they hands.
@@jackstclair6832 yeah, you can see the difference in quality between games Nintendo fully owns and Pokémon
Thats every Nintendo game at this point. The last Smash game added less than 10 new characters, and less than 5 new stages at launch.
@@jayray1714 U do realize that game already have aton of content right? That was just bonus fighters and stages, u dont need them to fully enjoy the game
I’m tired of Nintendo games in 2022 that has no voice over. It makes the games seem incomplete this games gives me legend of Zelda vibes but with different characters
What are the songs in this video?
Gamefreak: releasing a student game project for a price of a AAA games
Pokemon fans: just take my money already
so basically the game is a usability test for the next one
And Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee was a test for Sword and Shield, which was a test for this, it's almost like they know what we want, but will sell us 4, 5, 6 games before we get that game.
It's a pre alpha
well yes, but actually Pokemon fan boys will say no
@@undisclosedsteve6361 don’t worry, in 10 years we’ll finally get the perfect pokémon game 😔
@@kingkai18 Exactly lolol and by that time gaming will be evolved a decade and what they give us will feel antiquated just like this😂 It'll feel 10 years old and look 15 years old
Wow, a fair and critical review on a new pokemon game, props to the reviewer!
After zelda botw, theres no excuses why the world should be looking like some 2000s computer website game...
Each inches toward the game we expect them to put out. Interesting how every release on the switch dabbles with a new mechanic that is adapted into the next release. Curious to see about the next title now!
If only they would bring the per-release improvements to the new iterations...
Thank you so much for being honest about the bland and empty world. That was my main criticism since the first trailer released. The other reviews I’ve seen have been way too kind on Game Freak. This direction is cool but they can absolutely make better quality than this. Pokémon is one of the bestselling franchises of all time. It deserves more care and polish.
Have u ever been outside or know how game development works?
Playing this game was so refreshing. Hope they continue expanding this new formula!
Do Pokémon still sound 8bit or did they finally use the anime sounds?
How does a Pokémon game not have dungeons?!
Or much of anything
Pokemon hasn't really ever had dungeons. The closest things were caves and buildings...but those were just areas you had to go through to progress the linear plot.
@@ZeroShaneBob Silph Co., Lavender Tower, Mt. Moon, Powerplant, Bell Tower, Goldenrod Tunnel, Victory Road(s).
Just some off the top of my head.
Have you ever played a f*cking Pokémon game?
Because by your question it seems you don’t know what you are talking about...
@@human-animalchimeraprohibi2143 sooo caves and buildings?
IGN being HONEST?! what an unexpected turn
Funny how people agree with IGN without even playing the game despite this being one of the lowest scores this game had (86 on metacritic atm). Apparently IGN is now reliable but usually they are considered unreliable. Gaming community is pathetic.
@@alejandropradalozano6525 watched a whole let's play she's right dude 😐
Anything is an honest review as long as you agree with them.
Anyone know if we can use the pokeball accessory from Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee on this game?
Informative and fair review! Thanks!
Yeah, this seems pretty fair. Great gameplay but lackluster graphics and world design. I'll still be picking it up next week.
I'm curious to those that have this game, do you think this game is better than sword and shield, Let's go series and the DP remakes or no?
Haven't played Pokemon since gen 5 and this looks much more interesting and unique compared to the other Pokemon games for Switch.
No is not better, it's a huge downgrade for sure :(
It’s a million times better.. I’ve been playing Pokémon since 98.
Much better than Sword and Shield, Let’s Go, and the DP remakes imo.
A lot of people are saying it’s better.
Just wanted to say this is a really excellent, detailed review! Thanks for all the effort.
